My dad and I stopped in for a yummy burger meal the first night, and I drove back 30 minutes the next night to get delicious homemade vegetarian pizza for some hungry house movers. We liked the retro/vintage restaurant and the place seemed lively and full both nights. However we stayed at the amazing Harbour View Cottages 15 minutes closer...

This place appears to be the only place to stay in Matakohe and its 50 yards from the Kauri Museum so ideal if you want to stay nearby. It has just been taken over by new owners who have great plans for its future so although at the moment it needs a bit of updating, I'm guessing it will be...

New owners Jackie and Daniel were friendly and welcoming. Our room was spacious and we enjoyed the quiet pastoral ambiance. The hosts prepared an optional evening meal for us which was a decent enough steak. Skip the dessert, which was an additional cost, although this was not made clear to us when we ordered. We wish the new owners much...

To be fair to the owners, they are new to the place. They are very pleasant and helpful. But I would have to say, it's got some problems. The floors creak badly, the walls are a bit thin. It wasn’t made easier by having a couple of generations of a family next door, who did not seem to care about...

New owner Jackie is putting her personal stamp on the place already. Set in pretty surroundings, this place has all you need, with the added bonus of a home-cooking café that does breakfast for guests (and dinner on request) and is open to the public in season. So we had all we needed, including a pantry for tea and coffee...

What a great find this gem of a B & B was ... we fell upon it by chance as we were visiting the Kauri Museum next door. Our host, Jackie, was wonderful and was very hospitable and willing to go the "extra yard" immediately. She had only taken over ownership very recently, so some things weren't open yet. However,...

Stayed for one night after visiting the Kauri museum. Lyn and Alex were wonderful hosts and we felt rather guilty as they were shutting down for the end of season and stayed open one more night for just for us. We chilled out in the lounge area after a wonderful meal and while our little one got comfortable in her...

I stayed here on June 12, 2016 and had a very enjoyable evening. The rooms are nicely appointed with baths in every room. They offer dinner with advance notice of a couple of hours or more. They have a nice menu, I chose the rack of lamb and it was delicious. They have a full bar so a cocktail was...

We stayed here for one night after visiting the Kauri museum. Very comfortable and homely. Hosts were great. Breakfast was excellent. Our girls loved having their own room. We enjoyed chilling out in the lounge once they'd gone to bed.
