We communicated via email with David. He was fast in his response and friendly and helpful. We reached late at around 4pm and David picked us at 5 plus. From there we were super relaxed and happy as David entertained us with his very knowledgeable...More
My second trip back to this place, first time was with extended family. Even after 7 years, the place is still very well-maintained, and the host (this time David instead of his dad, Charlies) as friendly as ever. We love the view, and had the...More

We had a spectacular experience during our 3d2n (26 - 28 Mar 2017) under the care of our host/guide, David during our trip around Alishan/Yushan. David is a very thoughtful and understanding guy who provided us with umbrella when it was raining and does not...More

Hi, I think 2 days 1 night is quite rushed and you won't be able to enjoy Alishan properly. We took the HSR from Taipei to Chiayi, and from there, David (who's running the homestay now) picked us up in his van. It takes about 3 hours to reach the homestay and usually includes a meal stop. So unless you are planning to reach Chiayi in the early morning on day 1, and back to Taipei late on day 2, you won't get to spend much time in Alishan itself. The price which David quotes you should include transport both ways between the homestay and Chiayi. You will have to make your way to Chiayi yourselves.
Do note that whether you get to see 云海 or sunrise depends on the weather too. I stayed there twice - once in Nov and once in Apr. Was lucky with 云海 on both trips but no sunrise cos of the cloudy condition. To see the sunrise, you will need to get up very early - David will drive you to another mountain where you need to make a short climb (steps) to the viewing deck.

Hi, if you plan to stay at Small Swiss Homestay, you should contact the owner Mr. Charlies Liu. There is no convenient way for you to get to Small Swiss Homestay on your own. What we did was, aside from booking our rooms at the homestay, we contracted the services of Mr. Charlies Liu for two days - for the roundtrip transfer from THSR Chiayi station, for the sunrise viewing (he brought us to this superb viewpoint that was not too crowded and which did not necessitate waking up at 4am as it was quite near Small Swiss), for the trip to Alishan and Fenchihu Old Town and for the trip to watch an Aborigine Cultural Show before bringing us back to THSR Chiayi Station. He also recommended/brought us to two small family-owned eatery/restaurants, (located at Shihjhou town just before the short climb up to the homestay) which serve tasty Taiwanese dishes at very reasonable prices. There are also some souvenir shops/convenient stores in this Shihjhou town. All in all, our family of 5 had a great two day vacation at the Small Swiss Homestay, thanks to Mr. Charlies Liu and his daughter-in-law who is in charge of the homestay. I highly recommend the Small Swiss and would surely stay there again given the hance
