This was a wonderful little oasis in Ometepe. It’s clean, has a great restaurant and is within walking distance of town. There’s a book exchange and an opportunity to get your laundry done here too. The only downside for us was that the roosters crowed right outside our bedroom window several times through the night for all three nights we were here. My advice is NOT to rent rooms #1 or 2 and perhaps you can sleep through the noise if your room is further away from where they like to roost. This would have been a 5 star review if we’d had better sleeps as the place is amazing and has delicious bottomless coffee with breakfast! You can rent scooters or ATVs from here as well although they are $5 cheaper to rent them in town plus them you can give yourself a ride back to the ferry terminal at the end of your stay!

This tranquil oasis is a 10 minute walk from the ferry terminal in Moyogalpa. It has a lovely garden area and a beautiful pool area. There is an open air undercover restaurant area that overlooks the pool and the gardens and is spacious and very nicely presented. There are a couple of different accommodation options to choose from and these and scatted throughout the grounds. We were in one of their more budget friendly rooms, which in a hut with only one neighbouring room. Our room was clean and comfortable and was a good size. It had a porch at the front with a table and a couple of chairs. The hotel is safe and secure and they have a security guard on duty at night. It’s in a quiet part of town and is a nice place to come and relax. They provide free filtered water and they have plenty of alcohol spray and gel available. Breakfasts each morning was delicious and featured eggs, cheese, tortillas and gallo pinto. One of our favourite features of this hotel was its super fast internet. This makes it a great space for the digital nomads. You can pay by cash or card in either USD or cordobas.

We took 4 days to expore Isla Ometepe and are so happy we found Soma online. First of all the owners, Sarah and Michelle are incredible! They were so helpful and informative from the first email we sent. Second, upon arrival we were in awe at the beauty of the property, the grounds are well maintained and there are plants and flowers everywhere. Our cabin was absolutely perfect. I am a bit picky so I opted for the cabin with AC and Hot water and was no disappointed. I was surprised at how spacious the room was! The food: amazing! They have a chef from england who is very talented. It was nice to have something different than what every other restaurant and bar offers. We enjoyed the Butter Chicken, the pasta bolognese and the fish and chips, along with breakfast every morning. Every meal was delicious and flavorful. Some other highlights: I liked that they had maps of the island free and available, along with info on tours, hiking, spa services and much more. Anything we asked for they had a contact for!
Isla Ometepe is a backpackers paradise and this place defintiely can accommodate those on a budget... they have rooms starting at just 10$ a night, but if you're like me and don't mind spending a litte more money for some comfort and privacy, this place is perfect. We planned on only spending 2 nights here and ended up staying 2 extra days because we loved it so much. There are so many great things to see and do on the island! We can't wait to come back soon for our next visit. Thanks again to the owners for being so hospitable and warm, we will be recommending this place to all our friends and family! Much love, Jenna and Jose from Costa Rica!

My girlfriend and I spent 3 nights on Ometepe in November. We loved our time on the island, thanks in no small part to the excellent meals, comfortable beds, and helpful advice and support we enjoyed while staying at Hospedaje Soma. We particularly liked being able to cool off in the pool on the day we arrived after a long drive and the ferry ride, the honor system that provided in-demand access to sodas and snacks, and the friendly cats that stalk the property. The owners helped us arrange 4-wheelers (at what we learned was a fair rate) to get around the island, provided insights into which destinations to prioritize, and generally made us feel at home. We loved both the breakfasts we ate there every morning as well as the outstanding Italian (pomodoro) and Indian (butter chicken). Because the sights are spread all over the island, there is no area significantly more convenient than the rest, and we were happy to be so close to the port and in so quiet an area,

Nice pleasant oasis. Enjoyed open-air dining area for breakfast and dinner (not included). Room had a deck and chairs for relaxing and watching birds - summer tanager, yellow naped parrot, hummingbird. NOT on the beach. No Lake views. Lowered one star for that reason.

I ended up booking 3 nights at the Soma Hostel after my original hostel had to cancel on my due to a family emergency - my former host recommended this hostel and I did not regret making this switch. The hostel is located close to the pier where the ferry arrives (about 5-10 minute walk). It has a pool (yeah) and a small restaurant which serves breakfast (not included), lunch and dinner. All meals are fair priced and delicious. The room we stayed in was spacious and very clean. The shared bathrooms were also very clean. The staff made sure that our stay at the hostel was perfect. The first day they arranged for a private taxi to take us to the sights we wanted to see. On the second day we chilled at the pool and rented to bikes to get to the sunset point.

My husband, daughter and I travelled to Nicaragua for the second time in early March 2020, never dreaming that a global pandemic would be declared shortly after we arrived. The news forced us to cut our trip short by a few days and because we had just arrived on Ometepe (our first visit to the island), we decided to stay there for the duration of our trip rather than going to a more populated area of the mainland as we had originally planned. We had booked a family cabin at Hospedaje Soma for 3 nights and ended up staying for 6 -that was a great decision. It is such a lovely place owned by such lovely people. Fellow Canadians Sarah, Terry and Michele and their fabulous staff could not have been kinder and more welcoming. The grounds are gorgeous, the pool fabulous and the restaurant area relaxing and comfortable. The food at the restaurant and the drinks we enjoyed poolside were delicious. Our cabin was clean, large, beautiful and incredibly comfortable. And we did so much on Ometepe, thanks in large part to the advice of our hosts. They helped us plan day trips and hire fantastic drivers -huge highlights were Ojo de Agua and the day we spent on ATVs travelling across the island to the San Ramon waterfall. We had the most incredible time and are all so grateful that we were able to spend the majority of our time on Ometepe at Hospedaje Soma. They are both jewels of Nicaragua.

Over the past 6 years, we've visited Ometepe Island 8 times & stayed at Hospedaje Soma all but once, and that's only because they were full. Set just on the edge of town, but easily walkable, you'll find quiet peacefulness in a lush garden setting. The hosts are very knowledgeable when helping you plan fun island excursions. They can set up guided hiking trips, kayak explorations or suggest other fun activities. We appreciated their trusted moto, scooter & quad rentals! We have often seen people run into problems with poorly maintained equipment, but Soma makes sure to set you up with quality vendors! When you don't feel like exploring the island, you can enjoy Soma's refreshing swimming pool or a nap in one of their hammocks. They even have a wonderful on-site restaurant now too! It's kind of a cross of delicious British pub/Curries/Italian food by night and sandwiches by day.I highly recommend Soma for value, beauty, tranquility & great staff.

I will go back to Ometepe just to hang out at this wonderful place again. Everything was beyond expectations. Super generous and gracious people. Clean quiet room. Delicious meals, open and expansive common area made it easy to meet others or have privacy. Great for solo, or group travellers.

We had a great time at Isla de Ometepe and Soma was the perfect place to stay. Our room was very nice, the pool is really great and the cafe/restaurant area very cosy.
The owners and staff are very friendly and extremely helpful with planning our activities and transport. This felt like the best place to stay on Ometepe and hope to be able to come back some day in the future.

This hotel is on the road leaving town so it is not really near anything. But, at the same time, the town in not very large so you are also within walking distance of everything.
There are more places to choose from in the Moyogalpa area.
