Finca del Sol is a boutique accommodation option a short walk from the main part of town in Sasnta Cruz. The property is spacious and the huts are well spaced out throughout the property. We were impressed by the size of the individual huts. It is an eco retreat so the bathrooms have composting toilets and the property mainly runs on solar power. We had a few electricity outages while we were there. There is wifi on the property but only at the communal hut, which is a bit removed from the accommodation. It’s not the most convenient if you are a remote worker, however it’s perfect for people wishing to disconnect. At night you can see so many stars in the sky and the property has gorgeous views out to Volcan Concepcion. Breakfast is included in the room rate and the breakfast includes eggs, bread, fruit salad and coffee. Each room has its own water filtration system. They provide alcohol gel for guests to use.…
I was quite disappointed with this accommodation. We were greeted by someone that spoke no english which was quite uneasy seeing as how we just arrived on the island at 6pm (sunset) and wanted to familiarize ourselves with the space. Instead as the sun went down, we were greeted by a guy with a flashlight which seemed to be telling us he was the night guard and told us to yell his name if we heard anything. He was very friendly and I could tell had a great heart, but because there were no curtains in our room, we felt uneasy that anyone, including the guard that was patrolling around the property often, could be looking inside at all times. We did not feel like we had any privacy. We got into our room and read the booklet that was in english which would have been helpful if it was accurate; however when we woke up in the morning to go to the breakfast area/reception, there was no-one but a barking dog on a leash. Eventually someone came in from the fields and told us there is no breakfast available. With the management currently, I would not recommend this space.…
Best is the surrounding and nature around this cottage. Many animals, birds, butterflies. One night no electricity, no fan functioning. No wifi, it is only in reception. Overprized. But information received and discussions with the lady boss (Lucy) were fruitful.
Finca del sol has a new owner since October 2018 and Lucie who manage the place now is a star. They only have three bungalows and a large property and garden so you will feel like you have a lot of space. There are goats and sheep strolling around and a lot of dogs who can bark quite a bit. So you shouldn’t be afraid of dogs :-). We visited during the really hot period and the bungalows tend to be very hot but they have fans to help you cool off. The place runs on solar energy and you have your own water purifier in the room which makes you feel of the grid and close to nature. And watching the sunset from your porch with the volcano in the background is truly amazing. The breakfast is not included but for 6 dollars you get a really great meal.
It's a bit of a trek to get to Ometepe Island, but Finca Del Sol was totally worth it! I loved my bungalow with private hammock and stunning volcano view, but was made to feel immediately at home with Sheri's incredible hospitality. She went out of her way to ensure I had the food supplies I would need for my volcano climb, and arranged the massage I needed afterward. Wonderful place to stay.
I had a lovely time here. I stayed in Sol, the yellow adobe cabina, which felt huge and was really well ventilated. Great mosquito nets and a good, hot shower. The construction was also really well done - very simple yet stylish, with shelves and hooks for belongings - and a gorgeous view of La Concepcion volcano from the front door! Sherri was very accommodating and cooked up great breakfasts; the Finca she and her partner have created here is truly unique, with loads of animals and birds on site and an almost magical pathway through the dry forest. There are bugs - you are in their world! - and Sherri is keen for you to let her know if there is a problem it is in her gift to resolve. She is also great at sorting out trips - she organised a great wetlands kayaking tour when we were there. Quite a few good restaurants in walking distance, and it’s possible to go right up Maderas from the Finca. …
We stayed for three nights in a spacious bungalow with our two young girls - age 8 and 6. The girls loved the farm - seeing the goats, sheep, dogs and a monkey at breakfast! The bungalow was clean, with lovely comfy beds and plenty of hot water. A few bugs, but that’s what we expected and part of the fun! Great touches in the bungalows like posters of the birds you might see around the farm. Gorgeous, tasty breakfasts and Sherri made extra efforts to get cereals our daughter with allergies could eat. Sherri also reserved the ferry for us, as we were bringing our car, a kayaking trip and a guided walk to the volcano lookout with a really great local guide which was a fantastic experience. We walked to lovely restaurants at night which was fine with a torch. We had a really great time. …
Thoroughly enjoyed this stay! Friendly, accommodating hosts & easy access to Ometepe's bests! Hiked Volcan Maderas via a path from this farm's backyard, and with a guide easily arranged for via Sherri. Visited the most delicious and delightfully authentic restaurants, within walking distance and/or easily reached by cab. Walking distance to surreal, beautiful lake for swimming. Comfortable accommodations. Peaceful, relaxing landscape. I miss those goats!
Our family of four stayed five nights in the bamboo bungalow in January. The girls loved the bunkbeds and the queen bed was firm but comfy. The kids also loved interacting with the goats and the dogs. Sheri's suggestions for activities were always spot on, and the location is great for exploring the island and for just hanging out.
We thoroughly enjoyed our three night stay in the Orchid Loft at Finca del Sol. The room itself is beautiful and spacious and the views are stunning. Sheri and Cristiano are incredibly friendly and accommodating host and we loved getting to know them. We arranged a 1/2 day hike with a local guide through Sheri and had an amazing day exploring Maderas Volcano and even lucked out to see both howler and capuchin monkeys. The property/farm is beautiful, quiet, and isolated, but not too isolated (just a short 10-15min walk to restaurants, beach, etc)! And we really enjoyed walking through the farm both during the day and at night after dinner just make sure to bring a flashlight or headlamp. We only had the continental breakfast one morning and it was very nice, but otherwise we opted to try some of the local spots close by which were also very good. Highly recommend both Nectar (any meal) or Pizzeria Mediterranea Bar Ristorante (dinner). We really can't say enough wonderful things about this location and the hosts. Just a few words of caution...I did find some critters on my nightly visits to brush my teeth including bats, frogs, toads, scorpions, spiders, centipedes etc. For me this made our stay a very special and unique experience but as mentioned in previous posts if you are a bit squeamish I'd recommend a different option. I think our only complaint, and it is so minimal, is that it would have been really nice to have a small sink in the loft, just for brushing teeth/washing hands without having to go out to the shared bathroom. But overall loved this spot and you will too!…
