Detailed Reviews
We recently spent 2 nights at Barton Hall in Pooley Bridge. The owner, Eilsa was there to welcome us into her beautiful home. My first impression was one of ‘wow’. She showed us to the room, which the door was wedged open, she entered the room with us and briefly showed us around, it was lovely, such a nice thing experience, these days you pick a card up in reception and make your own way to your room, struggling upstairs and down dark dismal corridors, this is nothing like that. The décor was beautiful, very traditional, but very warm and welcoming.
Our room was decorated stunning, and the carpet is something you would have in your own home, not in a bed and breakfast guest house. We had a roll top bath, beautifully clean bedding, and most of all comfortable! We have 2 children and a little dog and we all stayed in the same room!
There is access to a living room and a kitchen, there is fresh milk in the fridge and tea and coffee facilities along with a tv in your room.
Breakfast was superb! Freshly cooked when you arrive, in the stunning dining room. The food was great well presented, suitable for adults and kids. The kids loved the teapot being on the table, and helped themselves to cereal and fruit and yoghurt.
The area of Pooley Bridge is lovely, if not somewhat busy, we had a fab time round the Lake and enjoyed some lovely food at The Sun Inn.
We will definitely be back at Barton Hall, it is just perfect for us! The whole team were lovely, really welcoming!

Where do i start with Barton hall. From the moment you walk in the door of this lovely hotel you're made to feel welcome. The owner Ailsa and the staff are just wonderful, nothing is too much trouble. The breakfast is fantastic served in the beautiful dining room with a touch of Downton Abbey breakfast served as it should be. The rooms are very comfortable some with beautiful four poster beds. I cannot recommend this hotel enough.

Well…. What a welcome we received.
Felt rather hostile and uncomfortable, we were not at all sure if we were being scolded for being several minuets late and told several times before shown to our room about the 5:30 check in cut off, even though we had called ahead to say we were having problems.
Our room was lovely and can not fault it, other than the rude awaking the next morning by the owners dogs barking and howling.
Breakfast was nice all though the dining room was very cold, being heated by fan heater.
There was a beautiful lounge, but again we did not feel we could make use of such a wonderful room, as it was freezing cold in there, and felt like we could not ask to use the fire. Which I could imagine being beautiful if lit.
Beautiful House, and surroundings although the garden has seen better days.
If you looking for unique experience worth a visit, although if you feel the chill make sure you visit when we are in the midst of heatwave

We stayed one night on our way from Scotland to London. This was our second visit (the first was about 3 years ago). This place has a lot of character and the owner, Ailsa is chatty and charming. The interiors are very 1980s country house (our carpeted bathroom, for example) but that adds to the pleasantly eccentric feel. Definitely very different from staying in a chain hotel! The room was comfortable with a 4-poster bed and we had a good night's sleep and a nice view of fields and sheep out of the window. There are cereals on offer in the rather grand dining room and a good cooked breakfast with lovely views. We weren't told about the £10 per child surcharge when we booked this time and as a result had to scrabble around for the extra cash when we were leaving, but I think this was just a blip as the person who usually does the bookings was on leave when I made the reservation.

Beautiful location with wonderful views. Stayed just one night with a colleague for a meeting. The house is so elegant and wonderfully furnished. Ailsa and her staff were so friendly and accommodating. Our rooms were really outstanding, with an enormous ensuite, tea/coffee making facilities, bay window with sofa enjoying lovely Lakeland views. We walked 10 minutes down into Pooley Bridge for a meal at the Sun Inn, which was excellent. There is a well equipped guest kitchen, wifi and a beautiful guest lounge. Breakfast was excellent. Oh and it's very dog friendly. I can honestly say Barton Hall was outstanding, full of elegance and rustic charm.

What a truly wonderful experience this stay was.
From the moment we arrived to the time we left, it was like home from home.
So welcoming and friendly staff, Ailsa, the owner, made us feel very welcome as soon as we got there. We had some history of her home and it was made clear that although it was her home, we were free to come and go as we pleased and use the house as if it was ours too. The house is stunningly beautiful with loads of character. The breakfast experience is so welcoming and you feel that everyone in the room is part of the family. The fact that this home does not accommodate many people at any one time, makes it even more special. No one is made to feel like a stranger. Doors are left open without fear of being intruded on. You are free to make your own food and drinks in the guest kitchen which is just so unusual but makes it even more special. We stayed two nights but honestly could of moved in!!. Will definitely be a guest again here and hopefully soon.
The guest book is fascinating and guests have been back even after 30 yrs which says a lot. The team of staff are so helpful and do not make you feel like strangers.
Loved it here and can't believe haven't heard of it before.
Miss you already!! Alan, Kriz, Arek and Kryz.

Amazing location, superb setting, warm and friendly welcome.
The house is perfectly situated just outside Pooley Bridge and 10 mins south of Penrith: easily accessible and offering ready access to the northern Lakes.
Facilities are charming, and exactly as described in the website. The Victorian rooms are amazing! We had plentiful log and coal fires going all through the weekend - a great, safe and comfortable refuge from Storms Dudley and Eunice!
Alisa is so welcoming to her home, and the team supporting her were all superb at looking after us throughout the stay.
Thank you all, we look forward to seeing you again later this year.

The staff made me feel really welcome, especially as I was stopping by myself. Wonderful building with original features. Really big room with everything you want, even shortbread biscuits! Breakfast was really nice with good quality products. Would definitely stop again.

What a wonderful treat to be welcomed to her most beautiful home by Alisa and Jackie. The whole team were so friendly and helpful giving excellent advice on what to see and where to eat. The house is very special with beautiful furniture, art and gardens and is adjacent to green fields with sheep grazing nearby during our visit.
A sumptuous breakfast prepared us marvellously for the joys of exploring the magnificence of nearby Ullswater and the Lake District.
Long may Alisa and her lovely team continue to offer such hospitality.

Without checking with Ailsa I don't know, but am sure that if you sent her a cheque she would issue something for you, she is a lovely lady.
I'm sorry I didn't see this (much) sooner. I would imagine you could leave your bikes in the car park (or perhaps on the side of the Hall). It is an incredibly safe, rural area.
Yes, dogs are welcome. Please call us for more details.
