Quintal House is a beautifully restored historic community structure whose original construction dates back to the mid 1800’s. The traditional heritage character and simple elegance of the house is accented with antique and modern functional furnishings and local artisan and craft pieces. This 3-story Heritage Guest Home currently has 3 rooms available, all with serene harbour front views. The house has a warm, ageless and charming character, tastefully decorated with a mix of old world charm and new modern comforts. All rooms have comfortable beds and are equipped with private baths for guest convenience. Quintal House offers quiet, calm, peaceful surroundings in a private, relaxing setting that is family friendly with both indoor and outdoor activities for the young and the young at heart. Situated in the heart of this quaint, picturesque fishing community, Quintal House is located next to Nicole’s Cafe, featuring fine traditional dining and cuisine, Wall Works local artisan shop and Growlers homemade ice cream shop. The Guest House is also located within short walking distance to the local boat dock and boat tour operations, Brett House Museum, traditional foot trails, berry picking patches and other community attractions such as coastal walking trails and remote artisan studios. Within short driving distance to beautiful Sandy Cove Beach and the Registered Heritage Community/District of Tilting, an Irish heritage community offering interpretive museums and scenic hiking trails. Located within the Labrador current from the North, Fogo Island’s geography is responsible for the parade of ice floe and icebergs that make their way South in the spring and early summer months along the Island’s North East Coast, allowing great views of these massive icebergs in spring and early summer months. An occasional winter visit to the Island by the great polar bear from the North, as well as frequent encounters in any season with the local caribou herd can be expected. An array of wildlife, waterfowl, plant life and berries can also be found on the Island. Breathtaking ocean shorelines and spectacular sunsets and sunrises are the geography and art lessons to be experienced here. Go beach combing on our shoreline, pick some berries, enjoy some hiking, take a boat tour, but most importantly meet some of our friendly locals who have a knack for ‘spinning a yarn’ (having a chat). Enjoy high quality entertainment, as these same Island locals have a unique musical and theatrical gift that is showcased at many of the on-going music festivals and theatrical events hosted throughout the year.

My partner and I stayed at Quintal House for three nights over Thanksgiving Weekend and it was absolutely wonderful! Nadine is lovely and provides you with a fully stocked, self serve kitchen so you can feel right at home. The freshly baked partridgeberry muffins were a delicious touch! We stayed in room 1 and it was large and clean with a very comfortable bed. The washroom was modern and the shower was excellent. I will absolutely be back. I had to think about this review for awhile, to do it justice. I have decided to do it in two parts.
The five star part: it is a beautiful house, inside & out. Nadine is a great host. The kitchen is free for you to use, with most of the food provided, and you can bring in & cook your own. Free use of the washer & dryer. She let me use the phone to call my folks in the USA. Her sense of taste in room decoration is wonderful. And it is only two houses down from the best rest. on Fogo. (Nicole's Café)
The three star part: if you are about 6'2" or taller the bedroom ceilings will be too low for you. As it is an old house, the walls are paper thin. There is a fair amount of road traffic in the afternoon & early evening. Sleep experience not so good.
I think this is a fair assessment. But I still feel guilty writing it.

First, the short story of all the B & Bs we have visited in the last 4 months: 2 in Newfoundland, 2 in Nova Scotia, 2 in New Brunswick, and 2 in Manitoba. In each case, the description given on the web was accurate as to the expectations a guest could expect. Now to the specific comments found for this B & B. Quintal House had everything we could possibly dream of: a big porch with swinging benches, a room with a view overlooking the bay, a kitchen full of breakfast goodies, a dining room and sitting room full of their own 'stories of old'. Nadine made sure that we were at home in her community. We should have planned to stay more than 2 nights! Thank you, Nadine, for wonderful memories of Joe Batt's Arm.

Walking into Quintal House you can quickly tell that Nadine, the owner, has taken great pride in the restoration of this lovely 120+ year Captain's home. She has achieved the perfect balance of keeping the home's heritage while offering all the amenities a traveler would need. From the antique quilts, "water hoops" and old pump organ decorating the house; to fantastic beds, fully appointed kitchen and high-speed wireless, Quintal house makes you feel as though you have one foot in the old world and one foot in the new.

Nadine, herself, is lovely and one can tell she is very proud of not only what she has done with Quintal House, but also the charm that Fogo Island has to offer visitors.

I would highly recommend a stay to anyone looking to rediscover all the comforts of a simpler life.

Nadine was a great representative of the community.Very clean and tidy place, however we did not expect to get up in the morning and make our own breakfast. Nadine was not forthcoming about this previously and we would not have stayed here had we had known this previously. When it is called a Bed and Breakfast it would certainly mean a Bed and a Breakfast is provided. I cook everyday and did not want to cook while I am on vacation.

Response from Nadine D, Owner at Quintal House Heritage Guest Home
Responded Aug 18, 2014
It is unfortunate to learn from your review posted on TripAdvisor that there was some confusion regarding the product we offer to our guests. Quintal House is a great business that I am very proud of and as such I am always forthcoming regarding every aspect of the services we deliver here. Quintal House is not a bed & breakfast, it is a guest house; Quintal House Heritage Guest Home. As such we operate a little differently than the traditional B&B. Regarding the breakfast arrangement provided here, in all correspondences to our guest inquiries it is explained that the price quoted includes all taxes as well as a self-catered, continental breakfast. In oral correspondences with our guests it is further explained that we provide eggs, bread, cereal, fruit, muffins, other baked goods, juice, tea, coffee, and so forth, for guests to avail of at their own convenience. Guest reviews on TripAdvisor (and other) also reflect this arrangement regarding our breakfast service and to date feedback has been quite positive. Again, it is unfortunate that you did not understand this arrangement.

My husband and I spent two nights here while travelling around Newfoundland and Labrador. Nadine is a very warm, welcoming host who loved telling us interesting anecdotes about the island and who made us feel at home as soon as we stepped through the door of her gorgeous heritage house. This is not a b&b as breakfast is self service, a fact made clear on booking. This could be an issue if all the guests wanted a cooked breakfast and at the same time; however the advantages are that you can eat whenever you want and whatever you want. The kitchen was incredibly well stocked and there were also fresh buns and cookies each day. The location is perfect, next to Nicole's excellent cafe, two minutes walk from the harbour from where we took a boat trip to an iceberg and within walking distance of Fogo Island Inn and a well stocked craft shop. Tip: when travelling to Fogo make sure you get to the ferry at least 1.5 hours early to make sure of getting on as there is no booking system.

Our 3 night stay at Quintal B and B with our charming hostess, Nadine, was wonderful.
The location is perfect in the community of Joe Batt's Arm, close to the Fogo island Inn, Nicole's restaurant, Wind & Waves Studio and across from the harbour.
Nadine is a wealth of information and she genuinely wants you to enjoy your stay and her beautiful Fogo Island.
We loved her self-serve breakfast style, with delicious baked goods and a well-stocked kitchen.
Her heritage home is immaculately kept and so comfortable. We made ourselves at home in her lovely sitting room, minutes after our arrival! :)
Seamus, her dog, was loveable and always quiet.
Thank you, Nadine, for being the perfect hostess.
We highly recommend your lovely home to family & friends.

We spent two nights at Quintal House in October, and it was just lovely. The home is beautifully restored, cozy, clean and welcoming. The bedrooms are lovely, and the kitchen is fully stocked. We really enjoyed the self-catered option, as it meant we could sleep in and still enjoy a lovely breakfast at our own pace. We were also lucky enough to have the house to ourselves! We had Room 1 with a beautiful view of the harbour.

Nadine was welcoming, friendly and very accommodating, and gave us lots of advice on how best to enjoy our short stay. She provided a map, recommendations of where to go out for a meal, and was always available when needed.

I hope to get back to Fogo Island soon, and I would absolutely stay at Quintal House again.

The Quintal House was a perfect way to spend a night on Fogo Island. We loved chatting with Nadine and learning the history of the house and Fogo. She was lovely and welcoming to my husband and I and my children. The rooms were clean and charming with local made quilted pillowcases. We enjoyed the self serve breakfast with plenty of fresh baked treats such as molasses biscuits and partridge berry muffins. If you really want to know the friendly Fogo with all of it's history this is the place to stay. Thanks so much Nadine !

I don't provide many reviews, but there are times when one is obliged to do so because the experience is so good or so bad. In this case, my wife and I had the pleasure of staying in room 1 and had the time of our lives. We travel frequently because we both work long hours and traveling allows us some quality time together. We wanted to stay two nights but the Quintal House is so popular that we could only get one night and we booked months in advance. Nadine, as mentioned is a great hostess and is an ambassador for Fogo. She takes an active part in the community and the extols the need for balance in tourism versus the preservation of old ways. She takes pride in this home and it shows with every little nook and cranny. My only regret is that we could not have stayed longer. The people of Fogo are so darned friendly and there are great walks to be had. Nicole's cafe is also awesome, providing healthy locally sourced meals, that are fairly reasonably priced. Do yourself a favor and stay here in Fogo. It sort of resets your thinking of what is important in life if you are willing to let it happen. The photos opportunities are also very numerous.

Thank you Nadine for treating me and my wife Grace so well. I hope to meet you again.
