Travellers' Choice
Just six kilometres off the tourist trail to Ronda is a valley with stunning mountain scenery and eagles soaring overhead. You are heading for Cartajima, one of the most traditional of the famous Andalucian pueblos blancos, white mountain villages. Following our driving directions, you arrive outside the great chestnut doors of Los Castanos behind which there is quality accommodation, personal, informal atmosphere, local wines and great home-cooked food. Relax in your spacious bedroom with its enormous bed, soft sheets and fantastic mountain views. Stretch out on a lounger on the rooftop terrace, savor your wine and melt into the mountains. This must be the most perfect getaway, a totally indulgent mountain village hotel in a completely unexpected location.

My wife and I had a most pleasant 3 night stay at Los Castanos in the small village of Cartajima near Ronda. Di and John are the perfect hosts. Most loved the daily included breakfast and optional dinners. Di is an amazing chef. Her dinners are not to be missed. She prepares each course with passion and care of presentation. The property occupies the high point of the village and the mountain views from the rooftop terrace are truly amazing. Spacious rooms, welcoming common spaces. We unhesitantantly recommend Los Castanos for your next stay in Andalusia.

We had a lovely stay at Los Castaños. Driving from Seville to Granada, Cartajima was the perfect stop along the way. Breathtaking views and a close proximity to nature—it felt like we really stumbled on a hidden gem of Andalucía. Our hosts, Di and John could not be nicer. Di made dinner and it was one of the best meals we had in Spain (breakfast was great too). She’s a really talented chef and we had a great time with John pouring the wine and telling us a bit about the house and their history. They were wonderfully accommodating while still giving us privacy. They also took Covid precautions which was appreciated. The space was incredible. Our room was comfortable, clean, and well-equipped. We woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the mountains and enjoyed spending the evening on the rooftop watching the sunset light up the sky and the other Pueblos Blancos in the distance. Like many others have said, this is an incredible place and experience that I would 100% recommend.

Perfect location in a beautiful area John and Di, the hosts, are wonderful and warm people who will make you feel comfortable and at home. Lovely place to hike. Don't hesitate to stay for dinner: Di prepared some delicious meals. The best we had during our whole stay in Spain.

A gem hidden in the mountains. Small rural villages, which seem to be this way for centuries. Los Castaños Hotel fits in without making you miss any comfort. Best views from the rooftop terrace over the valley with its white pueblos. Quiet and calming down as soon as you enter. Di and John are marvelous hosts, being there to assist and make your stay memorable. They even accepted us with our 2 - well behaving ;) - kids exceptionally. We will be back soon!

We stayed at Hotel Los Castaños for the 3rd time and wouldn't hesitate to go back again. Di and John provide a warm and friendly welcome, our room was spotlessly clean as always and the breakfast was delicious. We also enjoyed an evening meal - 3 delicious courses created by Di and paired with a local Ronda wine on John's recommendation. It makes an excellent base for walking in the area and discovering Ronda. A great place for a country break!

Thank you for your review and for telling my potential guests about the wonderful walking there is in the Alto Genal Valley. It is a pure pristine landscape where you will probably not encounter another walker all day! Village to village walking with a beer available every hour or so.
