La Petite Madeleine is an old wine farm which we have renovated. It is located in the heart of the Saint Emilion vineyards, 3.5km from the village of Saint Emilion. We have 5 comfortable bedrooms (good beds) with ensuite bathrooms (shower + sink + WC).We also propose the Table d'hote which is a home made cooked dinner on the spot. Good opportunity to taste good food and to share with other guests and the hosts.

Really a comfortable feeling. The village and buildings are older, but are well cared for, have a homely feeling, and clean. Scenic surroundings and old charm. Good continental breakfast, and gourmet dinner available. Highly recommend.

What can I say - all the 5 star reviews are right on target. Trip Advisor needs to add another star! We stayed with another couple for 5 days and Véronique took great care of us, making chateau visit and restaurant reservations along with recommendations for local markets. And, image fresh breads delivered from the village baker every morning combined wth homemade jams. Thor is an accomplished chef. The meal we had with him was as good as any of the Trip Advisor 5-star rated restaurants in the area. Make sure to book this meal and let Thor choose an accompanying wine. Nancy and Wayne
(Note: Trip Advisor is making me to treat this as a hotel, but it is not. It is a great value, quaint bed and breakfast situated in the vines of Saint Emilion.)

Ideal place to stay if you are in the St Emillion area. It is only a 5 minute drive to St Emillion itself although parking is difficult during the middle of the day - but not a problem in the evening in our experience. Thor and Veronique are superb hosts and will give you as much advice as you could possibly need on places to visit, vineyard tastings etc.
The bedrooms are modern and adequately furnished, with good drawer and hanging space for clothes and a very large bed. There is a fig tree outside the window of "Petite Feuille" bedroom which does give off a powerfully aromatic aroma if you have the window open - it might not be to everyone's taste, but you do get used to it. Wi-fi is free and works well.
Thor cooked dinner on our second night and it was quite superb and great value at €25 for three very good courses, the highlight of which was magret de canard with a lovely mushroom sauce. Wines to accompany your meal are available by the glass or bottle from a neighbouring vineyard and are excellently priced at about half what you would pay for this quality in any of the restaurants in St Emillion itself.
It is not cheap, but then you are in a "honeypot" area and prices reflect this. Taking that into account, we thought it was reasonable value and we would certainly stay at La Petite Madeleine again.

We had a difficult experience with this B&B that started before we arrived. When we told Veronique, the hostess, several days ahead of time that we needed to change our 4-night stay to 2 nights, she accused us of “deception,” despite our offer to pay if she couldn’t re-book the room.

When we arrived, we saw the same depressing scene as the couple who wrote a review here TWO YEARS ago! Despite the lovely pictures on the web site, we were met with dead plants and weeds in the parking area, and a generally untidy appearance outside the house.

Our host, Thor, greeted my husband but ignored me. He led us to a side door that turned out to be the main entrance. We stepped into a small, dark living room that was, as the couple from two years ago said, “strewn with the owners’ personal belongings,” most of which were baby equipment. Veronique stood in the midst of it, with a large-screen TV broadcasting news next to her, and an 11-month-old baby on her hip. She didn’t approach us as she said hello, nor did she turn off the TV.

We felt like intruders, and retreated up the dark, narrow staircase to our room. Apparently, the baby slept in the room next to ours, but fortunately, we didn’t hear him during the night.

I found short, white hairs on my (purple) pillowcase, and I have long, dark hair (and my husband had his own pillow, so it wasn’t his hair).

Breakfast was meager compared to any B&B we’ve been to over the years: bread and jam, and juice/coffee/tea.

St. Emilion is an expensive town, but we don’t feel that the quality of this B&B (which isn’t in the town) warranted their fee of 90 euros a night. We also felt that the web site was quite a misrepresentation of what we found when we arrived.

I think that everything started with your bad translation of the word déception. In French, it just means disappointment (we wrote e-mails in French) and at that time, I was disappointed both for us and you that you had to cut your stay with us. Our policy is that we never charge our guests for nights they do not spend at our place, even when it is late cancellation. We will excuse you for your comment and your bad memory because you had a strong migraine during your stay in France (that can be really painful). Probably you saw everything with negative eyes. But my husband did not ignore you. He knew by your e-mails that you were sick. He just wanted to give you space and expected you to go directly to bed. I am, myself, outgoing and welcoming. I believe that carrying a baby does not make me less of a good host. Our baby has now grown into a little boy and we have also renovated a big private living space. But you can still see some toys in the garden and kid books in the common space. When other kids come with their parents, they are happy to use them. And even though La Petite Madeleine is a quiet and peaceful place, there is life and there is interaction between people (between the guests and us and between the guests). About the hairs you may have found on your pillow case, we are really surprised and sorry. We pay extra attention to the cleanliness of the rooms. Should you have told us at the moment, of course we would have changed it immediately. We always do our best to please our guests. The breakfast which is served at La Petite Madeleine is a continental breakfast with a large selection of home made jams, the fresh French baguette bread and croissant as well as hot beverages, orange juice, yoghurt, a selection of cereals and fresh fruits. But how would you know since you did not come down for breakfast? We do not serve breakfast in the rooms but your husband brought you a cup of tea to your room. And he seemed to enjoy himself when he had breakfast. Maybe, you would like to come back and try the La Petite Madeleine experience without the migraine. There are plenty of stuff to do in the area of Saint-Emilion and plenty of people say that La Petite Madeleine is a great place to stay and that Thor Inge & Véronique are great hosts. We like to believe it ;) Véronique

Absolutely beautiful setting and hospitality. Our room's windows looked directly onto a hillside vineyard just a stone's throw away. Veronique was so accomodating and helped us secure a driver and private Chateaux (winery) tours and an amazing hike. Veronique's parents, Paul and Bernadette were visiting and truly delightful.

We spent three nights here and experienced friendly and helpful hosts.
(Even when we wrongfully assumed that there would be taxi available at train station, - we got help.)
Perfect place to live if you want to explore St Emillion and surrounding area by bike.

Thor Inge has restaurant background, - and we found his food and wine suggestions very helpful.

Thor Inge and Veronique are your hosts in this lovely B&B. They are a friendly and welcoming couple. Rooms are couples and bathrooms have showers. Parking is free, breakfasts are great and you can eat a wonderful meal coked by Thor Inge with wine upon request. It is a 5 minute ride to the beautiful town of St. Emilion. You can walk to wonderful dinner at a local winery (5 minutes, hosts provide a flashlight) through a wine field. Thor Inge, a wine connoisseur, will drive you around the area to tour wineries. The stay was memorable and I’d head back there to stay if I was visiting the region again!

We spent 3 great days at this charming B&B. 😊. The hosts, Thor Inge and Véronique, had arranged hikes in the wineyeards, wine tasting, visit to local markets and bikes for use to enjoy in a wonderful landscape. The location is great, peaceful and close to Saint-Emilion. We enjoyed great wines, food and service. The hosts' knowledge about the area made us benefit maximum from the stay.
Can also strongly recommend a visit to a great restaurant in the close proximity, just a short, nice walk through the wineyards

My Sister and I stayed here for two nights. It's a beautifully preserved limestone building, updated with modern plumbing and amenities. The hosts are awesome, very gracious and accommodating. It's about 2km from downtown Saint-Emilion, so it works best if you have your own car (or motorcycle), but we were able to use a combination of Taxi, Uber, and rides from others to make it work. The house itself is very quiet, and the internet was fast enough that I could work remotely during the afternoons. I plan on coming back here next time I'm in France.

The place is difficult to find and not very well indicated. Rooms are clean but it's a bit overpriced. It would have been nice to have a bottle of water in the room. Breakfast was very good but only sweet, so if you are not into croissant and jam but rather prefer ham&cheese&eggs in the morning you may have to skip breakfast :-).
The host was very nice and helpful (she tried to call a restaurant to book for us which we found quite nice) but still we find the price too high for what it really is.

La Petite Madeleine is located in a small hamlet in the middle of the Saint-Emilion vineyards. Therefore, it is not the easiest place to find if you do not have any help. That is why, I send the gps coordinates as well as some directions together with the reservation confirmation of the stay. And we are on google maps. All this helps. In the worse case, we are always only a phone call away. As for the breakfast, we serve a french one. That is to say fresh bread and croissants with home made jams as well as a selection of cereals, plain yogurts and fresh fruits. I also give a description of the breakfast we serve in the reservation confirmation so no bad surprise about what to expect. If you have intolerances such as lactose or gluten, please tell us in advance and we will be prepared. Sorry you did not feel fully content with our place. Véronique

How do we get to your place ? from the train station? We do not drive.
Answer from Steve M

It's actually not in St. Emilion, but in a small town right next door. I don't think it's anywhere near a train station, but Veronique is very good about email. You can contact them via email (check their website) and Veronique can probably help. We have a car so we drove to the hotel. Cheers, Steve
Answer from LaMadeleine
Indeed, if you book directly on our website or by sending us an e-mail, the price will include breakfast. But if you reserve through the booking.c** website, the price does not include breakfast. BR, Véronique

is there air conditioning in any of the rooms?

Hello, We do not have airconditioning in any room of the house. It is an old stone wall house which normally keeps fresh. And we can provide fans. Hoping that this answer will be helpful. Best regards, Véronique La Petite Madeleine Tel : 00 33 (0)5 57 24 78 45 Mobile : 00 33 (0)6 67 68 23 52
