My boyfriend and I stayed at The Postmasters Lodgings in order to attend a wedding nearby. The place was the most beautiful house I have ever seen! It was decorated Art Nouveau style. The walls and the velvet curtains were teal blue colour. Our bedroom had a four-poster bed, and full of beautiful wooden furniture. The house was full of...

My husband and I arrived late in the day with only 30 minutes notice. Dorothy and John made us feel like old friends come for a visit. We enjoyed a lovely meal, wine and lively conversation before retiring to our charming room. The Postmasters is a sweet place to stay.

If you looking for something completely different from mundane hotels and guesthouses then The Postmasters Lodgings is for you. From the moment you cross the threshold you will be captivated by this old property which has a strong Edwardian theme, great individual rooms, ours featured a four poster bed, and views from the terrace across the estuary. Your genial host...

Great location, right near the ferry. John is a good host. Very comfortable bed and interesting place to stay. Fantastic trip to the totally unspoilt Mitimiti beach and amazing trip to Wairere boulders. Both are must do activities.

I was driving around Northland, and was very lucky to find this very special lodging. Stayed one night from 30. January. The owner is a very friendly host, as hosts should be everywhere! The lodge is a private house, nearly 100 years old. The inventary is held in an old, elegant fashion style. The owner has made most of the...

This is a really historical experience. A very comfortable stay in an antique filled period home. Johns woodworking talent adds a lot to the decor. All rooms open onto balconies and are individual in layout. We felt welcome and breakfast was superb with views across the harbour. Not our usual choice of accommodation but we were pleasantly surprised. Situated in...

My partner and I happened on The Postmaster's Lodgings inadvertently on an impulsive flight from our home in Auckland. It was unplanned and pleasant memories of Rawene from each of our past's made it seem a pleasant diversion from everyday activities. And so it turned out to be. Rawene itself turned out to be just as both of us remembered,...

An opportunity to stay in an amazingly original piece of Northland's undiscovered history, at the Rawene Postmasters Lodgings. In addition to comfortable beds in character-filled rooms, hosts John & Dorothy provide wonderful old-fashioned hospitality, and share both their period-piece home & their passionate vision of the renaissance of this glorious harbour-side town. Thanks for the great stay & the interesting...

My partner and I stayed at Postmasters as a base for the Hokianga Country Music Festival. Originally we had planned accommodation at the Masonic Hotel just across the road, but as some festival acts would likely be playing until the early hours of Sunday morning, we thought of somewhere a little quieter in case we needed rest. We were basically...

My daughter and I found ourselves with an extra night to explore this outpost of Rawene, and thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The hosts were friendly and welcoming, the lodge was very comfortable and both provided an entertaining and delicious dinner option for us! I could not imagine a better dinner, regardless of the dearth of options in town. We were...

“Double overlooking veranda & bay Don't if you like standard, tick-box anonymity Do for quirky, old world charm”

“We asked for the larger of the rooms at this guest house and it is recommended because it has a larger bathroom. Space is a bit tight in the bedroom which has a four poster bed and a fan which was very necessary as the weather was very warm and the room quite hot for sleeping. No fly screens so the fly spray was needed (and supplied).”
