The whole property is in need of an upgrade. Decor and furnishings are very tired. The breakfast provided is okay but they do run out of food regularly. Menu for lunch/dinner has been reduced considerably compared with online and is basic and tasteless. Shuttle bus is very expensive at $30 pp each way. Taxi is cheaper. No entertainment or shows provided to entertain guests. Resort is understaffed at reception and the bar. There is a long wait to check in and check out. On the positive side, the view from the deck is outstanding as are the fish that wait for food underneath. The beach is amazing and grounds are clean and tidy. Staff are also friendly and helpful.

thank you for your review, as you are aware the borders have just been reopened and we are in the process of building up our stocks again, everything is imported to the Cook Islands and due to Covid and no guests stocks were reduced, we are now launching our new menus, as for entertainment there is entertainment on 3 nights of the week, again we are relooking at this in line with occupancy, The shuttle bus is not run by the resort and we have no control of their pricing however there is also taxi's and the local bus service to choose from,

We saved for years to visit Rarotonga, we finally booked with Rarotongan Beach Resort & Lagoonarium just before Covid closed the airways. This Resort will not refund our money back, but says rebook, so we did. Our flights with Jet Star are now cancelled, no one is flying there, we can't get there so we want our money back. The Resort is closed so even if we got there we can't stay. We are now told if you do not use the accommodation within a year then you loose your money because it is a no refund booking or has extra costs to extend. It's not like we don't want to go, it's simply we can't get there. Have a heart and some sympathy! You are doing no favours for your resort or for our experience of Rarotonga. We are facing loosing so much money through no fault of our actions. It's pretty rich really when I see you advertising free cancellations and refunds for accommodation. I can't wait to have a chat face to face with you.

Kia Orana, we look forward to welcoming you back to The Rarotongan, particularly as the New Zealand Prime Minister has said she will reopen the New Zealand - Cook Islands border in May 2021. To be consistent and fair with the thousands of guests affected by the border closures we have offered a complimentary rebooking of their stay once the borders do reopen. If you were not aware of this, please do contact our friendly reservations team to organize this for you. The free cancellation "flexible" rates are higher rates than the non-refundable, as is similar with hotels and airlines around the world. If there is anything further we can assist with, please do not hesitate to contact us directly.

The view is unbeatable. The hotel has kayaks and stand up paddles to take a ride in the lagoon, which is an excellent alternative to do before or after eating. here are waiters but the place works under the self-service modality. The staff that takes the order is friendly and always smiling. The menu is basic, closer to fast food than to a gourmet establishment We certainly expected more from a 4-star hotel. However, the dishes were well presented and tasty. We enjoy feeding the fish with the remains of our food, they gather to wait for them under the deck. The restaurant is more geared towards families than couples, groups or singles. To satisfy both audiences, they could accommodate families with their children around the pool and couples and groups at the opposite end. There is no maître who coordinates this kind of things, at least not when we visited the restaurant. We understand that at the time of our visit and in a context where the borders are closed and there are no tourists on the island, the menu is reduced. However, a 4-star hotel should not alter the quality and category of the service. Our suggestions for the establishment would be to modify the restaurant’s colour scheme, offer gourmet options, play functional music (especially to neutralize the screaming of the children) and change the self-service for personalized attention according to a 4-star hotel. Live music shows and thematic buffets could be organized with a fixed price to achieve a greater appeal. It would enhance the experience of receiving guests with a welcome drink.

Our day was beyond perfect and Tai and Joka went above and beyond to ensure it was perfect. They exceeded our expectations. On the morning of our wedding husband to be and I were swimming in the lagoon at 10am, knowing the girls had everything under control, it was such a beautiful and relaxing morning. (I’m sure lots of wedding mornings are not that relaxed!) They got everything right, in our wedding planning meeting we were all on the same page and nothing had been missed off (we had so much correspondence with the resort over the 16 month lead up, so was extremely impressed nothing was missed off). We made a few changes during the week and none of this was an issue. Tai stayed with us the whole day, until midnight and she made sure everything ran smoothly. Tai couldn’t have done a better job and it felt like she cared as much as if it were one of her own family members weddings. The Rarotongan is a perfect venue for weddings, the location with the stunning beach and the different facilities they have that you can use for your wedding day. We used them all! The food and staff were amazing, both for our wedding and during our stay. The resort staff made us feel extra special leading up to our wedding and after it. I highly recommend The Rarotongan for both accommodation on the island and weddings. I wish we could do it all over again! We will be going back there next year to stay! Thanks again to all the staff there that made our day so perfect. We are forever grateful.
