First time at the castle today for Sunday lunch,on arrival we're greeted with a lovely welcome and shown to our table,we both ordered the lamb, and I had pate for starters, the pate with rustic bread was lovely, the lamb main course was absolutely amazing, the gravey ,roastys, parsnips and veg was spot on,the service and check back I can't fault,I had the velvet cheese cake and Vicky had treacle sponge for dessert,we didn't say a word to each other until they were finished lol, highly recommend definitely will be there again, the only complaint we have,Is they are fully booked for Xmas day, well there's always next year

Absolutely shocking. This place looks NOTHING like the photos. Its wedged between x2 main roads and located on a run down residential street. The rooms had been 'newly refurbished', so absolutely stank of paint fumes. The adjoining area that had an additional single bed (we had booked a family room) had some kind of strange board of MDF at the end of the wall with a huge gap where you could actually see outside? The lovely gentleman who received us and showed us to our room was quite shocked when we said we didn't want to stay and we were unable to speak to the owner as 'he was away'. There is a yard that you walk through to the rooms which resembles a local tip, extremely untidy and run down. The rooms were of very low standard. We were also informed upon arrival that the restaurant was closed that evening. Had I have known this I would not have booked at all as we'd had a very long car journey to even get there so the last thing we all wanted was to trail around trying to find somewhere to eat - which of course there was nowhere in the local vicinity. I booked through booking.com so I will need to dispute any charges given to me but I was NOT happy to stay and would sadly NOT recommend this place to anybody. We ended up staying in a premier inn 13 miles away from The Castle Inn and were told by a local that The Castle Inn has "all the DSS people in and is 'full of druggies'". Now, as I did not witness this myself, I cannot confirm this is true but when you had booked a family stay, or any stay for that matter - its not exactly the local opinion of the place you expect to hear.

We all had a lovely meal there last night.Had to wait a bit as a large party was in front of us, but that is because everything was cooked fresh. Looking forward to going again and for Sunday lunch. We had a nice welcome when we arrived and left and there were two roaring fires.

I like the Castle, it is both homely and cosy where the staff are attentive and sincere.
Set on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, and near to the Rassau Industrial estate it makes the ideal base for both tourist and business traveller alike.

Although I have not personally stayed here, I have, however, formed the impression that the limited accommodation here most likely falls into the " home from home " category, both functional and basic.

However, this is a fine place to enjoy a meal or drink in the winter months with a number of natural open fires roaring in the hearths within the restaurant. Bar drinks choice is limited to just a handful of beers / ciders, the wine list however is more than adequate. I enjoy the food here, especially the roast Welsh lamb with red onion jus and Dauphinoise potatoes. The long-standing chef at the Castle, Jonathon, is well regarded by frequent visitors within the locality, and after my recent experience I have to say that I agree.

The proprietor of the Castle, who I had the pleasure of meeting, Alan Williams is a warm, friendly gentleman and a very interesting person with many a tale to tell. My advice, if in the area, give the Castle a try, where you get a 5 star welcome without paying 5 star prices.

Half the menu was not available. Three of us had pre planned to have lasagne but couldn’t. Food took an hour to arrive even though two people who arrived after us had their mains and ordered desserts by this time. Food was bland and unappealing. Diet Coke was like flat brown water
