Most divine beach I’ve ever seen. Always chairs available. Pool very hot. Outdoor maintenance staff were very good. Room a large size. Unfortunately there were at least 15 long black hairs on my floors from the time I arrived. Not mine!

The project to replace screens / shutters with glass windows that gets mentioned in many responses by the property hasn’t been completed on any of the 16 rooms, only the two front cottages appear to have glass so far.

I did arrive at 1pm and was told I’d be given the next available room regardless of which it was (I think they are all the same). Whatever was cleaned and ready first. After sitting in the heat for two hours I came back to reception to wait some more. In that time I did pay $10 for my washing so I had been waiting with three bags of wet clothes. At 3.30pm a couple arrived to check in and they were immediately taken to a room (near the laundry, not a cottage at the beachfront) with their bags. I waited a bit more.

Housekeeping had been cleaning what ended up being my room, the whole time I was waiting by the pool then in reception. Finally my room was ready after 3.30pm. Not sure why I wasn’t given the other room given what the receptionist had said. It wasn’t the best start to my stay. To have a marked bedspread and so many hairs after at least two hours of preparation was disappointing.

Family of four, two young children, had a fantastic time. Our second stay (last time was 2019 and without children). BBC has a new manager (Leonard) and he has really put his stamp on the place - it’s much improved, the rooms (kitchen, windows and bathrooms) have been refreshed and the staff are all incredibly hard working. Amos, Oscar and Stanley do not stop on the grounds, pool and beach, and Eulanda and Shakeera are very responsive at reception. It’s the stand out self catering accommodation in the area. Be sure to book well in advance, we spoke to several groups who had tried to book but it was already full.

Value for money in prime location

This is an interesting accommodation. It’s one of several in midrange Dickenson Bay, and has a great location in the middle of the bay with a couple of good beach restaurants a few minutes’ walk away. Friendly staff, large apartment, comfortable bed, easy parking, pleasant balconies, kitchenette with all the necessary (but no dishwasher or chopping board), large shower, beach towels. Large supermarket three minutes’ drive away.

Good value for money.

On the downside the pool is rather small (many vacationers in other Antigua hotels seem to spend much of their time lazing by the pool – you would not want to do that here for long periods of time), the fittings are a little dated and the oven also exceptionally small.

If you hire a car (I did, but not essential if you prefer taxis) don’t get one too small. The potholes on some of Antigua’s roads are world-beating and even if you brake on time and crawl over them you want to have a high wheelbase and a solid suspension. My small SUV had less than 100 miles on the clock so I felt the need to be especially careful as I couldn’t blame a previous driver for dents and scratches …. Driving through St John’s is also an interesting experience.

All in all, if money matters a bit and you are not a pool lizard I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. I am sorry that you did not find a chopping board in your room as we equip every room with one. We dropped the ball there and will do better in our checks. Thanks for choosing Buccaneer and we hope to welcome you again.

Stayed here for 11 nights in August with my 6yr son and husband. Got off to a really bad start when we arrived at 3pm to check in and room wasn’t ready until 6pm. Not impressed and no apologies or explanation from staff. The apartment is basic and dated and the small kitchen is equipped with basics to cook. Why the microwave is balanced on top of the fridge is bizarre. The room is spacious and bed comfy and the air conditioning freezing. We were an upstairs room and could hear voices below us and people out in the gardens throughout the night. The bedroom has shutters but light comes through the top piece of glass. The hotel is plagued with mosquitos and although the room was sprayed every day we were even bitten in the room despite keeping the doors and windows shut. There is a tv in bedroom and living room with American news channels. The ground keeping staff were friendly and helpful and always tidied the gorgeous gardens and beach. The pool is roasting and cleaned every day and as the hotel only has 18 rooms there was always a free lounger. The beach is stunning and the vendors leave you alone. At weekend evenings the beach is popular with locals who take over the small cove. We used a small grocery store in Antigua village and used the Epicurean supermarket which is bigger than 1st choice 5 mins away. There’s not much else nearby and you need cars or taxis to get to shops and restaurants. We booked a catamaran tour with Isaac outside of Sandals which was brilliant and he gave us free child place. There is a permanent strong smell of cannabis on the beach from locals at the jet skis which is annoying. We had no positive interactions with any of the reception staff and on our last night our room wasn’t cleaned by 5pm and the housekeeper handed us towels and told us she didn’t have time. Most days it was almost 5 before it was cleaned which was annoying. Despite all this I still gave it a 5 star as I felt the hotel itself was excellent but the staff could do better.

Thank you for taking time out to give us valuable feedback. I am sorry that your vacation got off to an unacceptable start, and I can assure you that this certainly isn't our standard. I am also sorry that we did not capitalize on the opportunity to make it right with you while you were here. Your comments means much to us and so we will do all possible to eliminate such an experience for our future guests. We hope that this has not left an indelible stain and that you can give us the opportunity host you in the future. Thanks again for your review and be safe

The BBC is a reasonably priced quaint little piece of paradise. It's a compact resort that is right next door to another resort which thankfully has an onsite restaurant that is decent. This is fairly important because there are not very many quality restaurants in the surrounding area that are nearby.

A few days prior to our arrival I was concerned that we had made a mistake in selecting this place because I saw a couple very negative reviews on TA. I emailed the onsite manager to ask about these reviews and Leonard responded very promptly and did a good job answering my questions and addressing my concerns. I don't think these negative reviews provided an accurate picture of this resort.

We stayed in a garden villa that was only steps away from the beach and the pool. While not luxurious, our villa was very comfortable and clean. The kitchenette was nice to have and allowed us the option to pick up some simple items for breakfast and lunch from a small grocery shop that was about a block away.

The staff here is incredibly friendly and accommodating. They keep the grounds looking very nice....lots of flora and fauna in the small garden area that comprises the property. The pool does get a few feathers and leaves from the trees on the property next door and the birds that are in the area but the staff did a decent job of keeping the pool clean. I had no issues swimming in the pool when I opted for that rather than the ocean.

The beach area for the resort is on the small side but it's adequate and we never had a problem securing a couple chaise lounges while we were there. One slight annoyance is that there is a constant parade of people that walk through the area on their way to and from wherever they happen to be going but if you enjoy "people watching" it's not that big of a problem.

All in all we very much liked the charm of the place and we were not at all disappointed in our stay at the Buccaneer!

...and this was no exception. Were it not for a small brown sign outside, you'd blink and miss this hidden gem situated at Dickenson's Bay beside the beach.

Parking spaces are provided, and you enter the small complex through a security gate with reception located on the left hand side once inside. The grounds are beautifully presented with exotic plants, birds and lizards visible around the well maintained private pool, which is overlooked by the attractive accommodation units which are accessed either on the ground or on first floors.

The accommodation, fitted with mosquito nets on all windows, was clean and well appointed (Microwave, hairdryer, mini toaster-oven, TV's etc) with a Clean conducted every other day and fresh towels provided. The beach, is again accessed through another security gate at the opposite end of the complex past the BBQ area and shower. This is a beautiful and picturesque beach, never crowded, with your own loungers available on a first come first served basis. Breakfast, coffee and drinks can be taken at the adjacent Salt Plage restaurant, also right there on the beach.

As with any resort complex, the thing that can make or break your stay is the quality of the staff, and this is where Buccaneer excels. Eulanda at reception couldn't have done more for us, recommending and booking restaurants, and making and fielding local calls, Oscar is obviously the loveliest, most genuine, likable, hardworking and honest person in Antigua, and Leonard; "Captain of the ship" and Manager of the well run Buccaneer Beach Resort who is both knowledgeable, professional and courteous.

I cant recommend the Buccaneer Beach Club highly enough. Book with confidence.

A small resort of 18 apartments with its own pool and private area of beach, less than 30 seconds walk away! The apartments are roomy, very comfortable with a fully fitted kitchenette (all units are all being renovated currently, ready start of October). The staff are simply amazing and the service is fantastic. From the manager, to the reception team and the outdoor crew who look after the pool, garden and beach area, they treat you all like family and will care for your every need. The only disappointment we had was that we had to leave at the end of our holiday!

If you're looking for sheer peace and relaxation, look no further as this place is perfect. This was our second stay and we will definitely be back.

After much planning and anticipation for a relaxing, beach side vacation, my husband and I got Covid after arriving at Buccaneer Beach Club in early December. Our unit made it easy to isolate from other guests and still get food and items we needed. Management and the office staff couldn't have been more understanding and accommodating. A special thank you to Leonard, Eulanda and Candace. ( Please forgive me if I spelled your names wrong.)
The hotel is the perfect size. Units are spacious and clean. The pool and shared areas are very comfortable and quiet. Location on the beach was peaceful for catching some sun and easy to walk to a few restaurants or order takeout.
What stands out about Antigua is the wonderful, kind and polite people who live and work there. We didn't get to go to any other places, but our friends did and they totally agreed that the residents of the island were very special.
And the weather was PERFECT!!! Antigua is paradise even when you're not feeling your best!

No glass Windows. You can hear screaming kids and noise at every time from outside
Even if the beach in front of the hotel is nice, it’s always a mess. Hundreds of people from cruises passing every day
No sunbeds available before 9.00 AM.
The sunbeds are supposed to be used by hotel guests only, but there are always people from outside (because probably the hotel and/or the staff need some money more …) and even if complain there is always nothing to do because the staff have always ridiculous excuse to let the non hotel guests use the sunbeds or put towels near / between the sunbeds (there was a major issue with some local guys that probably can do what they want because “this is my island, this is my beach…” and the staff is not efficient to tell anybody they can’t use the sunbeds or to keep the music at lower volume)
Staff never present at the beach during the day, they just prepare sunbeds in the morning and a quick clean of the beach and then there is always caos in the beach
We complained several times about the noise / other people on the beach but nobody one cares. After few days we stayed at the beach in front of the hotel we decided to go in other beaches around the island every day because it’s impossible to relax at the beach in front of the hotel
Very dirty pool and nobody one takes care. The water is dirty, they probably don’t clean the water since months
20$ deposit for each beach towel and most of the days they don’t have towels available to replace
Old furnitures in the apartment and some things not working (light / stove / fan)
Most of the staff don’t have welcome attitude, they always seem to be annoyed when you get in touch (except the lady at housekeeping that is fantastic and Stanley that is always nice)

Thank you for your valuable feed back. I am truly sorry that you encountered such challenges that ended with the line employees and never got to the Managerial level. The employees start work at 8am and prepare the beach first thing, however there is always someone on the property, including the Manager who lives there. Reception opens at 7am, and we are always ready to assist with anything outside the norm, including the preparation of beach chairs earlier. All the beaches in Antigua and Barbuda are public beaches and it is difficult to control the traffic on the popular beaches such as the one Buccaneer sits on. We have embarked on a refurbishment program that includes the replacement of all the windows to glass panel windows. We are hoping to complete by the end of summer 2024. Again I am sorry that we have failed you in some areas and I take your feed back very serious and have put the ball in motion to correct all we can on our end. Please feel free to contact me personally at email: manager@buccaneerbeach.com should there be more that you would like to share with me to help improve the guest experience at buccaneer beach club.

A lovely little piece of tranquillity down the beach from the Sandals Resort.
We arrived after 8 so were checked in by the night porter into one of the spacious rooms of which there are only a small amount.
There is a bedroom with comfy king size bed, plenty of storage, safe, iron & board and on the wall TV. The bathroom is also large but a little dated, shower was powerful enough and was fine. There is also a living room with a kitchenette including fridge freezer, microwave, small grill/oven, two hobs, coffee maker and kettle. All the cutlery, pots and pans are also provided. There is a large sofa and TV in the living room. There is an air conditioning unit in the bedroom and living room and they are of high quality and also really quiet. There are no glass windows but they are covered with mosquito mesh to stop the critters getting in. We had a balcony on the upstairs which was nice to sit on and read.
The pool is pretty and functional, you can stand in it all the way. Access to the beach is at the bottom of the property and free sun beds are provided. Wi Fi is free throughout the property and can be accessed on the beach as well. We hired a car for our first week and there is free parking at the front. There are about 5 restaurants within walking distance, we tried them all and the only one I’d avoid is Salt Plage on the beach next to the Buccaneer (part of Siboney), otherwise Casa Roots, Ana’s, Stella and Bella Vita were all great.
Can’t praise the staff enough who were polite, hard working and accommodating throughout, including the owner who was gracious enough to allow us a late check out for free due to having to move rooms to accommodate some maintenance work.
It was very quiet initially when we were there but it did seem to be getting busier as we were into our second week. Hopefully tourists will return in numbers soon as the island is very dependent on this.
Price wise we stopped 11 nights paying around £150 a night which for Antigua I thought was reasonable
