The hotel location is perfect for staying at Falmouth Harbour whilst being far enough out of town to avoid the nightly hustle and bustle in the centre. The rooms are reasonable size with decent, solid furniture. We had two family rooms, which contained two double beds, showers, kitchen facilities and large fridge/freeze units. Aircon worked fine, and there were ceiling fans too.

Hotel facilities included kayaks and little sailing boats, which you could just take out whenever you fancied - there was no extra charge for this and in the time that we were there you could always get hold of them. About 750m away across the harbour you could go to Pigeon Point Beach, or there were other more secluded beaches towards the West... or you could paddle around the superyachts (there were a lot in mid January!)

We were there to welcome back a cross-Atlantic rowing team, coming in to the Yacht Club - sadly they returned at night so we couldn't greet them by kayak. The rowing boats coming in for the Worlds Toughest Race (cross-Atlantic) alight at English Harbour, which is the next bay along, but it would not be safe to get round there in the small kayaks. It's great fun watching them come in, holding flares aloft while lots of the yachts and superyachts are blowing their horns and the support boats are racing round them, doing "doughnuts".

We hired a car from a local company, and there was always plenty of parking space at the rear of the hotel.

The staff were very friendly and helpful all the time. They gave good advice on local places to visit, eating locations, supermarkets and so on. There were a couple of eating places very close (Cloggys and Sweet Ts). Other guests used the local buses to get into town (only a mile or so away, but few people seemed to walk that far).

Our rooms faced onto a private(?) beach, and in the week that we stayed there we only saw other hotel guests and staff, with no pedlars hassling you to buy souvenirs.

Breakfasts were served each morning on the verandas in front of the rooms at 8:15am, give or take a 1/4 hour. This gave ample opportunity to chat with the neighbours, or studiously look the other way if you didn't like the look of them! We made some great new friends by chatting with other guests while waiting for breakfasts.

The island isn't particularly bad for mosquitos, and there were mesh screens on all doors anyway.

For things to do nearby, the music and food at Shirley Heights on a Thursday or Sunday is great and good value for money, and no trip to Antigua is complete without a visit to Stingray City. There are lots of restaurants in the area, and we never found a bad one.

Our favourite supermarket nearby was "Crab Hole Liquors" (not least because the name sounds like a pun). The Covent Garden supermarket in Falmouth Harbour may be the largest supermarket nearby but the range wasn't actually all that good and it seemed very expensive - clearly aiming at the superyacht crowd who didn't care what they were spending.

There are some who perhaps would highlight issues found at hotels and those who highlight benefits. I will try my best at providing a reasonable review. The Catamaran Hotel does need a little TLC. There were minor issues such as no plug in the bathroom sink but it wasn't game stopper. The hotel is situated right on a beach. Not the biggest beach it must be said, but spacious enough for the group I was travelling with (14 of us). There were plenty of sunbeds, 3x 4-poster beach beds, a nice sized swimming pool and canoes which were free use for guests. Housekeeping was carried out every 2 days, water (2 bottles) provided each day and spacious outdoor eating and relaxation areas. WIFI I picked up as I passed the swimming pool although some days I actually got a signal in my room, but again this was free. Meals (half board basis) were varied each day on a help yourself basis, and I don't recall having a bad meal over my 10 day stay. Staff were very nice and friendly and attentive during meals. Colin, who I understand is the owner's son-in-law, was brilliant even taking us across to pigeon point in his own boat (needing 3 crossings to get us all there) at no charge. He also sorted out buoyancy aids, paddles etc. any time canoe use was requested. However, if you're looking for a lively evening the hotel is not for you. If you're looking for a lovely location to relax then it is. It's a good 300/400 yards from the main road down a quiet lane and walking through to your room at night all you can hear is the lapping of tiny waves on the shore, crickets or frogs and not a lot of anything else. There are a few Cockerel's around so you might not get a peaceful lie in though. I suppose the assessment of any hotel review is the question, would I go back again? The answer is a very positive yes. If you wanted to go off site, Colin was always able to arrange a taxi and the No.17 bus runs from St. John's to English Harbour with a stop at the end of the lane. There's a nice café (Sweet T's) up the lane for lunch, if you were still hungry after breakfast. And a small supermarket if you needed, well, anything. I had a great 10 day stay. PS. There are some anomalies with the "hotel Style & Amenities" section below. Proof of Vaccination was required at the airport point of entry. Wake up calls and alarm clocks were care of the Cockerels. There is no smoking in rooms but plenty of areas outside to smoke and the beach was 3 seconds away.

I recently stayed at this lovely hotel in Falmouth Harbour on the recommendation of 2 ladies I previously met on another holiday. The hotel is situated in a sheltered bay with a small sandy beach. I had a lovely room which had both a single and a double bed with a balcony overlooking the sea. Larger rooms are well equipped with a kitchen including a cooker, fridge and coffee maker. The hotel is ideally suited to anyone who likes a tranquil, peaceful holiday with attentive and personal service from the owner and her staff. It is not suitable for those who prefer a large all inclusive hotel. Food was provided buffet style on a half board basis, but the hotel is only a short walk to two local supermarkets, so I was able to make my own lunch on days I stayed at the hotel. The beach has plenty of sunbeds and parasols and the hotel has a small swimming pool for those who don't like swimming in the sea. Air conditioning is provided free of charge, but a local charge is payable for the hire of a safe for valuables. The bar is run independently of the hotel and any drinks have to be purchased in cash ideally in US$. Unfortunately the weather was wet and and windy on some days during my stay, which is to be expected at this time of year, but the average daily temperature was still 30c. The owner of the hotel also made sure we were well informed about a storm that thankfully never arrived. I hope to return to the Catamaran again one day and would recommend it to to anyone who likes a small friendly hotel

This is an excellent resort to stay at if you want to sample the numerous delights on offer on the island. The resort is situated in a quiet location, yet all points of interest such as Nelson's Dockyard and English Harbour are easily accessible particularly if you decide to take a car rental. Staff are all extremely amenable and helpful providing expert local knowledge of specific places of interest and the most pristine beaches to visit in order to swim or snorkel. Rooms are meticulously cleaned on a daily basis with fresh towels and linen provided. In front of the rooms lies a small private beach and marina, which is a rather secluded spot and quiet at night time. In my opinion, this is a perfect location at an affordable price for wider exploration of what is a fascinating island.

The Catamaran is a boutique hotel in a picturesque beachfront location on the beautiful island of Antigua. Feona and her team (and Whiskey, the resident 3-legged cat) are friendly, welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. If you are looking for a large, modern, soulless, impersonal all inclusive resort, with lots of organised activities day and night, then the Catamaran is probably not for you. However, if you prefer a quiet, relaxing, peaceful holiday, in a small, clean hotel with lots of character, charm, original features and history (and right right on its own beach), then the Catamaran is ideal.

I was with a group of Solos travellers and we had such a lovely holiday that 5 of us have already booked to return next year.

Thank you Feona - I’m looking forward to seeing you again next October.

This is the second time I've visited and I cannot speak highly enough of my stay again. It's a family run hotel with a warm welcome. Feona and her staff went the extra mile to make my stay a great pleasure.
Each room comes with a fully equipped kitchen. The food is great and they can organise trips, travel and activities if needed. Although the pool is small, it is well looked after and has good views of the sea, beach and harbour. The hotel also has complimentary kayaks and small sail boats.
If you like small boutique style hotels which make you 'at home', this is the place for you.

Pros - The hotel is locally owned. The owner is very personable and relates well to her guests. The property is fairly clean and there is also daily room cleaning. The unit is clean and adequately furnished with a comfortable bed, small dining table, and a kitchen. Breakfast was delivered to my room every morning. Kimberly was extremely hospitable and welcoming.
Cons - When I arrived at the hotel after 4pm, (according to the website, check begins at 3 pm) the concierge was annoyed at the time I arrived because she let me know that she was off the clock as soon as I got out of the taxi. There is no one at the front desk or staff on site after 4 pm. If you get there after 4, you need to ring the ring camera doorbell and staff will return to the hotel. The restaurant was closed and I was told that it was closed because it's off season and there weren't enough guests at the hotel for it to be open. By the way, the website stated that there are two restaurants onsite however, there is only one. The restaurant did open on my third and fourth night there due to having more guests. There is a restaurant up the road from the hotel (Sweet T's) however their menu consists mainly of burgers. The beach is murky and muddy so I ended up going to Pigeon Point Beach which is close to the hotel for a $24USD round trip taxi ride. The concierge who is related to the owner had the most disgusting attitude whenever I asked her a question about going on tour or something that I needed. I ended up booking tours with Suntours Antigua to avoid dealing with her. If you're going to stay here, you need to rent a car because cabs are very expensive.

The Catamaran Hotel is a wonderful gem on the Caribbean island of Antigua. It is small a boutique hotel which is owned and run by Feona and her son Colin, supported by a friendly team (many of whom are members of their family), who have gone out of their way to make our stay here enjoyable and comfortable, despite a near miss by Hurricane Tammy.

It is not a 5 star all inclusive and there isn’t a gym or beauty salon onsite, so if those things are important to you then it is probably not the place for you. However, in my opinion, the authenticity of the hotel, the genuine warmth of the owners and staff and the beautiful location (less than 10 steps from my room onto the sandy beach) make it a much more attractive, peaceful and relaxing place to stay. Here you are treated and cared for individually, not as one of hundreds of guests in a large resort.

This was my second holiday at the Catamaran Hotel and it certainly won’t be my last.

My husband and I and our five children checked into the Catamaran hotel for 15 nights, not ever having been to the Caribbean or Antigua before not knowing what to expect! Our expectations have been blown away and more!! The location and dream like geographical spot of this hotel is only surpassed by the genuine hospitality and utter out of the norm service provided by the owner Feona and her dedicated team of staff! The perfect blend of feeling like we have truly come home to the long lost family we never knew we had ! and professional level of “above and beyond” customer service which I dare anyone to find any where else! NOTHING is too much trouble (and with 5 children that is a feat in and of itself!) the level of hospitality is exceptional! Truly giving us things we didn’t even know we needed! The home-like feel from the moment we arrived as very inexperienced islanders! We felt totally relaxed from the moment Feona greeted us and showed us to our gorgeous authentic Antiguan rooms! Everything we need is at the hotel and so much more! Breakfast served by their chef to us on the private beach! Authentic rum punch just appeared served by the lovely David! (Out of this world and Dangerously good!!) so many facilities and extras that just weren’t shown on the website! The rooms are beautifully cool, exceptionally clean , a true taste of Caribbean decor. Beds are huge and so comfortable and the addition of a kitchenette is wonderful for families. The beach is white and tropical and constantly being raked and kept spotless by the grounds team! Hand delivered Mangoes fresh from one of the teams gardens for no cost! Just the joy of us tasting them! is just a small example of the level of thoughtfulness and family service big resorts just can’t deliver! We will aim to return to this hotel as many times as physically possible and recommended to as many friends as family as can come! This hotel is phenomenal and we would heartily recommend.

A truly charming place in a wonderful location. It is really peaceful and the grounds lovely. We enjoyed the amenities and the facilities it had to offer including use of the kayaks and the complimentary boat rides over to English harbour town. Being family- run it has that friendly feel and they make you feel really welcome. A few upgrades to the rooms are needed as the hardware is looking and feeling tired, although the shabby chic vibe is a reminder you are in the Caribbean. Breakfasts were yummy and varied! We always had enough.

There are a few places one is next door to the hotel which I'm told is good food. I also noticed in the marina/boatyard a great looking bar which also did food. However, $8.00 USD will get you a taxi to either English of Falmouth harbour and then take your pick of everything.

Sorry, there are no water taxi services in the Falmouth Harbour. Taxis are US$8.00 for 1 - 4 persons and local buses (every 10-15 minutes) are US$1.00 per person
