Vine Cottages is located on the hills overlooking English Harbour and within Sight of two of the best beaches in Antigua leaving you to explore 363 others. Not including our smaller twin Barbuda…… Truly making it ideal for yachties, naturalists, yogis, couples and families wanting a remarkable holiday.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
This is the hardest review I have written. Vine Cottages is a tough one, so many positives but negatives as well (many of which could easily be rectified if owners read these reviews!). Track leading to Vine Cottages is in the process of being concreted (half finished during our stay which was very scary!) and definitely no need for a 4x4 but I would ask at time of booking about the road as a nervous driver would not be able to negotiate the partly finished road. At time of booking we were not told about this, but we did not find it too much of an issue as long as you go slow! We stayed in number 4. Positives - the views, could not get any better. It was lovely and quiet (apart from 2 nights when one of the full let's had friends round and there was music and people talking outside our bedroom window until very late at night). The bed was very comfortable and clean - both my husband and I suffer from bad backs so this is a massive plus. The apartments and balconies are really spacious, bathroom is big, lots of hanging space. Although there was no cable TV as advertised, we had Netflix and Amazon Prime instead which I preferred. Negatives - it was not clean. Even the stove top was filthy, encrusted with grease from previous people. Left it cleaner than when we arrived. Our apartment had not been cleaned properly for a long time. Even the insides of cupboards were dusty. The pool is lovely and was clean but the area around the pool needs to have finished bathrooms and all the general rubbish removed. Vine Cottages gives you the impression of someone having grand plans then running out of money and doing a botch job and no longer caring. We were even tightening up table legs to stop them wobbling. We understand that the whole complex is up for sale - I hope the new owners manage to get it finished and tidied up. This is a gem of a place if it was only shown a bit of TLC. Such a shame. Would I go back? Yes but would want a discounted price. Would I recommend it - if you want a base to see lots of the island with, a decent size pool with nice day beds for the afternoon, FABULOUS views and you do not mind eating out (not enough cookware or utensils to really self cater) and one of you does not mind driving, then yes, I would recommend it.

I’m sure this place was a real top notch facility when it was built. Not least because of its amazing locations and views. But poor attention to detail, cleanliness and lack of maintenance has left it tired and lacking. It was a good break but not great ....and this place could be simply stunning. A picture says a thousand words so here are a few both good and bad of spectacular views and sunsets but also poor maintenance, unused or broken furniture in rooms and in sight, noisy aircon, and variable outside cleanliness. Could have been so much more .....

Very good first impression, but slowly things went downhill. Our unit #5 did not appear to be finished. Bathroom, closet did not close. Very poor lighting throughout. No shelving or counterspace in huge bathroom. No bed topsheet, only a duvet, which if you get hot leaves you cold. Kitchen was poorly assembled as cupboard doors would not close properly and you could lose an eye on the stove fan while doing dishes. We had chipped coffee mugs, only one butter knife, and baby size forks. The pool was cleaned only once in two weeks and was filthy. After construction the room was not properly cleaned as there was lots of drywall dust in corners and on baseboards, all adding to a dusty experience. The shame is this could be a wonderfull property but management either does not know or does not care to bring it up to its potential. And beware, bring extra US cash as the 12%vat and 10% service charge does not come up in your final billing till you get there. Would be better if it were all upfront with the real price.Kudos to Mark who embodies hospitality on the property

Did not even stay one night (after paying for a full week October 2022) at the property with my husband. The property was in very bad shape (dirty, run down, falling apart), the host continues to misrepresent property with beautiful but outdated pictures that don't reflect its current dilapidated state.

I visited Antigua for 4 nights with my girlfriend in March having come from watching England play cricket in Barbados. My best friend from home works on a superyacht in English Harbour so I was ideally looking for something close to this but was open to travelling from elsewhere on the island in the interest of cost. Having searched for a long time with little luck for a good value place to stay I was thinking of settling for the relatively pricey Sugar Ridge on the west coast, and I'm glad I found Vine Cottages instead. The best thing about these cottages are: - The quality of the interior design (the shower was beautifully designed) - The comfort and quality of the bed and linen - The views from our balcony - The quality of service (our flight to Antigua was delayed and we didn't arrive until 2230, far later than expected. JJ, the owner, personally came to meet our rental car at a nearby school to ensure we didn't get lost in the dark). He stayed extra late just for us. - Value for money
Our Antigua experience was the trip of a lifetime and it was made all the better by this hidden gem of a property. Not many may have heard of it (including the 'yachties' we met in the Harbour) but I have no doubt its popularity will grow.
A previous guest mentioned they walked but I would recommend a rental car as it is quite hilly, it depends if you're looking to explore the local area and island or just chill at the property.
Thank you JJ and team for the wonderful hosting!

We were given two singles instead of a double bed for a romantic holiday and this wasn't sorted throughout our 12 night stay. After initially being told it was our fault, then when I showed it was not they blamed booking.com (who after several emails put the blame on Vine for not providing them with the correct information) and we received a written apology from Vine cottages but nothing by way of compensation. We were expected to pay cash on arrival which wasn't clear from the website and when I tried to pay via bank transfer I was given the wrong details twice which resulted in delays and fines from my bank and I was constantly hassled for payment from Vine cottages throughout my stay which didn't allow me to enjoy the relaxing holiday I had hoped for
