My wife and I spent our first vacation in Bermuda and stayed at The Reefs which was recommended by a family member. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Of all the many Caribbean vacations we've been on, this ranks highest. The beauty and cleanliness of this island was paralleled by the extraordinary stay at the Reefs where the staff was polite and accommodating, the accommodations were comfortable and well-kept, the food was fantastic, and the location was convenient. I highly recommend this Island and this particular hotel. It certainly lived up to the description we were given. Yes, there was a lot of Covid testing that needed to be done, which was nerve-racking. However, our need for a vacation far outweighed the inconvenience of the testing.

Our experience at The Reefs was exceptional! Every staff member we encountered offered over the top service and friendliness - from the front desk that offered Rum Swizzles at check-in and a treasure trove of information, the bell desk that ensured the many taxis we used were always waiting, the staff at Coconuts and breakfast, and one staff member that greeted us multiple mornings with a huge smile and recommendations for our day. What was most amazing was that almost all of these individuals knew our name throughout the week! The view from our Junior Suite and terrace was spectacular. The offerings at breakfast, included in our rate, were extensive - anything you want including made to order omelets, pancakes, waffles, bacon and an entire room of fruit, danishes and assorted cereals. The food at Coconuts was just delicious and the vibe can't be beat - overlooking the beach, cut into a cliff with palm trees through the "roof". Although located somewhat west of central island, the location was still relatively central and just perfect including being a few minutes from the most beautiful beaches and nature walk. Can't wait to go back!

When making my on-line reservation, there was no mention of the extensive testing required by the government after arrival. With the reservation confirmation there was some information. 1) PCR test required in the US within four days of arrival 2) Testing upon arrival in Bermuda requiring quarantine in you hotel until negative results are received. 3) On the 4th day on the island, you are required to go to Hamilton for another test. 4) Before departure, you are required to obtain another test to get back on the plane.

Response from David Dodwell, General Manager at The Reefs Resort & Club
Responded 1 week ago
Dear Destination750540, We are disappointed that you would review our property in this way, given you cancelled your trip so did not experience our resort, and especially considering your review focuses on Bermuda's entry protocols, which is completely out of our hands as a hotel. So please allow us to clarify a few items here for any potential travelers, as the overwhelming feedback is that the entry process has not had a negative impact on our guests' experience on island. First of all, on the top of every page on our website is a link to Travel Details and Hotel Safety Protocols, which provides information and links to Bermuda entry procedures, to ensure full transparency. As you mention, we also detail these in our reservation confirmation, as well as pre-arrival emails and personal calls we make to every guest. Second, to clarify a few items you have listed above. Currently, after you arrive in Bermuda and make your way to the hotel, you do have to remain on property (not in your room however as some misperceive) until you receive the results of your airport test, which typically is received that evening. Our guests have had no issue with this to our knowledge, as they are able to enjoy all the facilities of the property (beach, pool, restaurants) for that arrival afternoon, which, after travelling, that's all that most guests want to do on their arrival day anyway. On Day 4, you do have to have another follow up test, but for any guest staying a week or less, this serves the purpose of satisfying Point 4 in your post which is a US regulation for a negative Covid test for entry back into the US. Once again, this is US policy, not Bermuda, so this Day 4 test makes it easy to fulfill US protocols for reentry. We are a small island and the protocols are in place to minimize importation of the virus onto our shores. While on paper, they may seem "arduous" to some, the overwhelming feedback by the many guests that have come this summer is that the process is run very efficiently, it has given them a sense of safety while travelling, and was absolutely worth it to be able to resume travel and get that well needed Bermuda escape. Our team is always willing to help all of our guests with any questions regarding protocols for travel, which are common for many international destinations now, and we will continue to update our information as protocols change. We are sorry that you did not want to give the process a chance and we hope that you will come to Bermuda in the future. Sincerely, David Dodwell Jr General Manager

The setting is gorgeous but the hotel itself is old. We had a nice cliff room but the furniture is very simple like a motel style, though the rates are pretty steep. There was a shower which was recently renovated. We prefer tubs. We could swim in the pool 24/7 and it was warm. The pool at the condos was gorgeous but one may not use that pool. The hotel really needs to be modernized / renovated throughout. What they charge is steep for this type of facility. The staff were extraordinary including Cheniere who was super helpful. We enjoyed having breakfast on the terrace and afternoon tea in the lounge. Unfortunately we had seaweed 2 out of our 3 days. On our last day we could finagle our way out of the seaweed. Also the ocean was somewhat rough so if one wants to swim in calm water this beach is not the place. The food especially the fish dishes were good. One should check the "specials" as they serve different types of fish on different days. We prefer more modern hotels. However overall we enjoyed our stay.

We chose the Reefs Resort for our 20th anniversary, and it could not have been better. The setting on the cliffs overlooking a small shallow bay was beautiful. The hotel's private beach was one of the prettiest we saw anywhere on the island. The guests can snorkel right off of the beach. The hotel provides snorkel equipment, paddle boards, and kayaks, all included. Our room #344 was a lovely suite with a great view of the resort, ocean, and cliffs. The staff was first-rate, friendly, helpful, and attentive. Special shout out to our waiter Ryan who greeted us by name every day.
