The Blau Arenal Habana Beach hotel is frequently commended for its clean and spacious rooms, though some guests have noted maintenance issues. A vibrant atmosphere pervades the facility, bolstered by daily entertainment and a beautiful setting, though the pool music can be overpowering for some. The friendly staff is often highlighted for enhancing guest experiences, despite occasional service hiccups. While the hotel's prime location near Havana and the beach is a hit, opinions on value and amenities are mixed, with some guests desiring more bar and spa options and others pleased with the affordable shuttle service.

This little resort is a great get away, especially if you have already been to Cuba, and you want a change from Varadero while also being close to Havana. It is limited in some features, but it certainly is made up by the staff who are incredibly friendly and accommodating.
If you want a clean decent place to stay with access to a great beach that provides kilometres and kilometres of walking, then this is a resort to consider. It is an older resort and is showing some signs of wear and tear. However, it is well maintained and there are signs that renovations are occurring to improve the grounds and buildings. The room was quite spacious with a really nice bathroom area with a big shower. The only drawback is that there are no patios on the second floor, but the patio doors still allow you to still hear the ocean all night if you are located close to the beach area. Most resorts we have stayed at in Cuba required us to get up early and do the traditional “these are my patio chairs” with the beach towels. It was unnecessary at this resort. There were plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas at the beach, regardless of what time we went down. The same applied to the pool. In fact, on good beach days the pool area was practically empty. The food is the standard fare that most resorts in Cuba offer. The resort has no a la carte restaurants, but the buffet was decent with choices of different meats and fish along with salad options, rice, potatoes and a solid selection of desserts. If you tire of the food at the resort there are restaurants in the local town that are accessible in many ways. We opted to walk and came back at night and never felt unsafe or threatened. Getting into Havana is also pretty easy as the resort offers a bus service every day that travels back and forth to Havana until early evening for a nominal fee (especially compared to taking a cab). I must mention the staff again, because they were impressive. From the bartenders, security officers, chambermaids, receptionists, servers or gardeners, they were all nice, and I would say one of the friendliest staff of any resort we have stayed at in Cuba. A great resort with some limitations, but certainly makes up for it through its location, staff and beautiful beach.

Hotel is outside 30 min Havana; cross a mini laguna bridge for the beach; lots of sand dunes= safe swims & warm, free bar on the beach; placid water; easy walk to nearby empty village. Bring bathroom cleaner; wash your sheets/towels because insecticide is sprayed daily in rooms; food/drink in room fridge is too costly; meals are repetitive; drinks are super strong to keep you lulled; staff is apathetic because tourists pay more for tshirt then their monthly wage; Accept letters from staff to mail from your country. Some security hallway staff wear casual clothes, others uniformed. Very, very safe. Every second bulb in hallways is removed to save power. Take a flashlight for here and the city. Remove your key from check in desk as staff gives it to anyone without requesting i.d. Mr. Casanova is Blau rep- he is useless & whines about Cubans lack of access to basics & luxury although tourist $ funds the country; lot$ of Italian$ $eeking local friend$; dull entertainment & disco; repetitive meals- relax & travel daily to the city; give staff tips off site as hotel confiscates all tips/ gifts. Used track shoes; clothes like school uniforms; electric cords; school supplies= best gifts. Tourists re-sell techie stuff, etc for U$A $. Arrive with maps and tourism books to avoid crazy purchase costs. Bus trip to city market is ok but souvenirs cheaper just blocks away. I've stayed before and expect to, again. Be prepared and realistic.

This is a wonderful hotel and I recommend it to everyone who is choosing hotel in Havana area.

We were visiting Cuba with our 6-month old child and in this hotel we were provided with all the requested facilities for the little baby: the crib, the bottles sterilizer, the baby-bath, clean everyday stuff and even the kitchen prepared for her the fruits and vegetables purée (as ours have finished).
That was so kind and nice of them.

Extremely helpful, nice people, pleasant stay.

Amazing safe clean beach area, great (for Cuba) food, free transfer to Havana - everything was great!

We recommend this hotel to our family friends and to all of you who read this review! hope to be back!

Gracias por todo y hasta luego ♥️

I just returned from a girls vacation and we stayed here. We found it to be a wonderful experience the hotel staff are amazing it was a problem free stay and it was clean and exactly what they said it was going to be. Our room was beautiful it had warm showers not hot but didn’t need it to be. The food was pretty good considering it was Cuba and it is known for basic bland fare. If you are prepared by bringing your own spices and sauces and snack food you will have great success. I even convinced the chef to cook my gluten-free pasta for me as they are accommodating for dietary needs. The public relations manager named Nelly was extremely helpful and professional she made sure we got everything we wanted. There was even nightly entertainment that was quirky and funny. For $ 5CUC’s Round trip you could go into Havana and back which we did three times and it was about a 30 minute bus ride since they stopped at a couple other resorts to pick people up. The white sand beach at the hotel was stunning and beautiful for swimming. We would definitely return to this resort and recommend it as a place to stay if you want to be close to Havana and have a lovely vacation in a small intimate resort. They had a wonderful gym and even offered a massage and Spanish lessons.

We arrived to a beautiful large and comfortable room, got greeted by very friendly stuff at the front desk and got set up immediately with wi-fi connectivity (needs to get refilled by simply asking the front desk once the time expires depending on personal use.) The beach is a little walk away from the rooms through a bridge; crystal clear water and white sand makes this place a paradise; because beaches all over the world are not private and all citizens can walk through it the resort has a security guy at all times looking after personal belongings. using the kayaks, pedal boats is free and fun on the not so windy days, as well as a small trip to snorkel on top of a sunken boat from the Spanish days which is now filled with a variety of fishes, so beautiful! worth every penny of a tip one can give the guys organizing it. The fun activities all day long are lead by Oro, an amazing Cuban guy who breathes generosity, friendliness and understanding. A bus takes you to La Habana every day if you want and brings you back for $5 a person to walk around on your own La Habana Vieja and see some museums and learn some history. Cuban night was a blast on Friday night, amazing typical dishes for food and a live band that made everyone dance and enjoy the evening. A set of amazing opera singers was another night, we were taught to dance salsa, merengue, etc. all for free on the hands of Oro. All and all a great experience and look forward to go back soon.

We transferred to the Blau Arenal and were pleasantly surprised at how nice the resort was. The buildings, rooms and landscaping were all well kept and spotless. The pool is kept very clean and cleaned every morning, it is very large and comfortable. The beach besides being beautiful is well kept and there are plenty of chairs and umbrellas for everyone.

All the staff at this resort are very friendly and happy to help you. The customer service staff are very helpful and make sure all you needs are met no matter how small a big thank you goes out to Lilly and Elly amazing people.

The food is amazing fresh and very tasty. Chef Nef goes out of his to ensure everything is perfect, he is a on hands person and you can see all over the buffet making sure all the serving dishes are full an hot. He enjoy trying new dishes and is a great asset to the resort.

The General Manager Miguel is a very on hands Manager you can see all over the resort making sure all guest are comfortable and any problems are looked after immediately.

On the whole the Resort is a perfect place to spend a relaxing vacation. We will certainly be back. Thanks to all the hotels for making us feel like family.

My family and I were there last week. The hotel is nice enough, the beach is beautiful but the food is hard to eat after a week. If the hotel was close to other places you could go to eat it would be better but it's not. What I don't understand is we went into Havana and had great meals so why can't they make better ones at the hotel. The service was good once or twice but the rest of the time it seemed like they tried to avoid serving you and on several occasions simply forgot to bring you what you ask for.

On the plus side the pool is nice and the hotel was only about half full so lots of chairs around the pool.

I would rate this place a 2 1/2 star compared to everywhere else in world but it's Cuba so lower your expectations like I did and you will be less disappointed.

One thing that I really didn't like is the wine, it's undrinkable. We bought our own to have with dinner after the second nite. Also the rum and vodka was probably colored moonshine and undrinkable. For a country that makes great rum why can't they serve that at the hotel. On the other hand if you like beer you will be a happy camper. There are no yummy tropical drinks like you would get in Mexico.

The shows they put on are pretty bad to the point of being silly. If you are looking for a vacation that you can lay around the pool, hit the beach and have an afternoon siesta everyday this this might be good for you because there isn't much else to do unless you take a $25 taxi ride to Havana. Make sure you get there at least once it's pretty cool and the food off the beaten path is good just follow the locals and avoid the guys on the street trying to drag you into their restaurants.

Just remember bring your own booze.

Dear CurtisE70 We appreciate your visit to our hotel and apologize for not having fully met your expectations. We have a varied menu that changes every day in each of the breakfast, lunch and dinner services. Gastronomy is one of the aspects most valued by our customers. We apologize if our service was not adequate, believe us that we will take your observations very seriously always in order to improve. The drinks we use are both international as well as all Cuban brands of rum. It is not necessary for customers to bring their own drink. All the drinks we use are certified with international quality standards. It would be an honor to be able to receive you once again and offer you an even better experience. Once again we apologize and appreciate your visit. Cordially The Management

This hotel is definitely the nicest in Playas Del Este. It's absolutely beautiful. The pool is huge and well maintained. The food is great, and the large buffet has ample selection and variety from day to day. And the snack bar was great as well. The bar makes cocktails, piña coladas, mojitos etc which was a nice change from just beer and rum. The rooms were a great size and I appreciated the layout of the bathrooms, with the toilet and shower in a separate room. However, our room felt constantly damp. Our clothes/beds etc. It was frustrating. I don't know if it was the humidity or the a/c but it was something I've never experienced in Cuba before. As great as the pool is, a lot of the lounge chairs were old and had begun to sag, making them uncomfortable to lay on. You had to get there early to make sure you got a good one. I also did not enjoy the walk to the beach. It's not far to get there, but when you need a drink or to go to the bathroom, the walk is inconvenient. Maybe this is just me being picky from being accustomed to true beach front resorts. I also found the location in Playas Del Este a bit inconvenient as well. The seclusion is nice, but I love being able to walk the street and check out the vendors near Tropicoco and the 30 minute walk is daunting during the hottest days (which was every day we were there). I did appreciate how welcoming all the staff was. Most spoke some English, and a few spoke multiple languages. The free wifi, and not having to pay for beach towels or usage of the safe was a bonus I didn't expect.
Overall, it's a great hotel, it's just not my first choice in Playas Del Este as someone who's willing to sacrifice some quality for being closer to the beach.

The rooms were very clean, no bugs, no mildew smell. Housekeeping was great! We had an issue with our air conditioner on the second day. I went to the front desk and 3 people came to fix it (including our house keeper Mila) within 20 minutes of my request. Fixed and the vacation went smoothly thereafter! Only a buffet but lots of choices and the food was not bland. Did not require the spices I took with me. Salt and pepper readily accessible. The beach was great! We walked up and down the beaches many times and this resort definitely had the cleanest beaches and a friendly beach staff. Jorge the aquatic instructor took us out on the Hobie and he was so friendly and fun! Mila our housekeeper deserves a shout out, so pleasant and efficient! Also, the young man behind the pool bar (can't remember his name). Only a 30 minute cab ride to Havana or a 45 minute bus ride. Cab was $25-30 CUC one way and bus was $5 CUC one way. We went in to Havana 3 times. If you want to explore Havana this is a great resort to stay at. Don't expect a Mexico resort and you won't be disappointed!

I have been waiting years to find a decent spot in the Play del Estes area. This place is a gem. Primarily because of the outstanding effort of all the staff this is one of the best places I've stayed in Cuba in my 35 years of visiting the Island.
Just like everyone here says Chef Nef and his amazing staff deliver great and varied meals with precious little to work with.
The front desk staff turned themselves inside out to be helpful at every request.
Location is not walking distance to anywhere but is a short drive to Havana, beaches as beautiful as Varadero and rooms were well maintained and quite nice.

There seem to be taxis available at all hours. I don’t think you would have a problem finding one before midnight, although I didn’t fly through Havana airport. Cuba, in general, is a fairly safe country. I took a taxi from the city to the resort at around 10 pm and there was no issue.

From what I remember, there is no coffee maker in the rooms. Yes, beach towels are supplied and swapped out daily. I went there with Transat and the contact was there the first day for informations, tours... after that she was at the hotel every second day or something but reachable in case of any problem. Super nice ! Entertainment team is great !!! Activities in the morning, the afternoon and at night, there is a disco. Enjoy your stay ! You will love it !

Saludos. Feliz estancia.
