Official Description (provided by the hotel) Beautifully remodelled casa in the heart of Havana Vieja, across the street from a bank. The casa is like a small boutique hotel filled with antiques and crystal chandeliers. Rooms have balconies with big doors to the street below, air conditioners and private bathrooms. Maite Gomez, (speaks perfect English) and her staff are waiting to help you have an adventure in Havana, and can help plan side trips, tours and taxis. The casa has 24 hour security for your safety and has the perfect location within walking distance of all plazas, museums, bars, restaurants.
Maite and the Casa staff (Teresa, Jorge and Caesar) were all amazing, going out of their way to ensure we enjoyed our time in Havana. The rooms were clean and comfortable - air conditioning and hot showers. Teresa prepared a fabulous cuban breakfast with lots of fresh fruit and great coffee. Jorge and Caesar were on duty over night to ensure we were safe.

I stayed here for a week with my brother and sister, each of us in our own air-conditioned rooms. The casa was very clean and very charming, in a great location in Old Havana. Maite, Gelina and Teresa were extraordinarily kind and helpful to us - answering questions, helping us arrange transportation, attending to everything we needed. I can't recommend it highly enough, and will definitely stay again on my next visit to Havana.

To be fair we didn't stay at House Damaris & Yor. Yor invited us back for a coffee and to help us in booking a classic car daytrip to Viñales. Yor was a fantastic and enthusiastic guide with excellent command of English vs. our embarrassing lack of Spanish, who clearly loves his city. He gave us 2 hour walking tour around Habana Viejo. He showed us all the main sites as well as some out of the way places to shows us the 'real' Havana. All along the way pointing out suggestions for bars cafes restaurants to try during our visit. By the end of the tour he brought us back to his newish and quaint B&B for coffee and put us in touch with a driver for next day. Yor is a delight and have us a very good overview of the old town and recommendations. The B&B looks lovely, very centrally located and I imagine he and Damaris would be perfect hosts.…

Casa Compostela is a wonderful retreat and a great home base for those interested in the sights and life of Havana Vieja. If you want to truly experience the flavor of Havana, you must stay in the old part of town. The casa is clean, with simply, but adequately appointed rooms. There were probably 6 rooms in total, so be aware that you will probably not be the only guest. But the rest of the tourists, and Maite, who manages the property, make this place vibrant and interesting. You can hear stories, get the scoop on the best places to eat, or go dancing, you can ask for insights on the Cuban way of life. If you can - ask for a room overlooking the street. They have small balconies which are perfect for people watching at any time of the day. There are also at least two rooms with no windows to the outisde, and those can get stuffy without the AC. We rented 3 rooms alltogether, hence the experience with the different options. We did not try the house breakfst, but there are plentiful options nearby, and the most recommended is the fruit cart that is parked on the nearby corner. Fresh fruit for pennies a piece is the best on a hot Havana morning.…

Best location, comfortable and clean rooms. Breakfasts were delicious. All the casa personel were helpful. It was good to find a casa owner who knows fluently English. If one day we will travel to Havana again, this casa will be our first choice

We booked this casa as our first stop on our trip and we booked through cuba casa online with no problems in the booking process. We had arranged a transfer through cuba casa as well so were collected at the airport and taken to the casa. It was lucky we done this as the street the casa is on is currently not accessible by car due to road works. This is not a problem just make sure your taxi driver can point out the casa to you. The casa is beautiful inside and just like the pictures. Our room was right next to the breakfast place and was very nice. We had our own bathroom and everything was clean. There is hot water but as you will find in Cuba the pressure is fairly low. We had dinner here one eve on the roof that has beautiful views and a little bar (and a friendly resident dog that likes to hang out on the roof!). The eve food was nice. The breakfasts were nice as well although it can get busy leading to a bit of a wait so get there early. The location is perfect for old town and we were able to walk to everything. In the evenings we headed to Vedado which was a cheap taxi ride away. The managers of the casa are really friendly and will help with general information and taxi bookings etc. Only thing I would say about the taxi bookings are sometimes you can get a better rate if you find your own and negotiate the price. Overall I would highly recommend staying here when in Havana. Enjoy!…

My plan going to Cuba was to stay beachside for 5 days and to travel into Havana to take photos for another two I booked a room at the casa without knowing much beforehand (it was all very last minute). I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. I had such a fantastic time. Maite, who runs the house, was always very attentive to cleanliness and made an extra effort to hang out and keep everyone happy. Her staff always kept the kitchen stocked with fresh fruit, beer and water, and my clothes were even washed for me. Upon arrival Maite gave me keys to my room, which made me feel extremely safe, since I had lots of expensive equipment. The house was so easy going though that I didn't even feel the need to lock my door. My room had a perfectly functional air conditioning unit, which makes for a comfy night of sleep. Linens were perfectly clean. The house itself was right in the middle of town but just far away enough that you couldn't hear any of the nightlife when it was time to go to bed. Maite was also great help finding all the right places to eat. They have a great relationship with a restaurant around the corner from the casa (O'Reilly 304). It was, hands down, the best food I've had anywhere in the world, let alone Havana--lobster and filet mignon for $10. Delicious. Maite went above and beyond and found me a person to assist me with my photography. He walked the streets with me and made me feel like a true local. Overall, this was a once in a life time experience. Couldn't be happier. Thank you Maite for being one of the best hostesses I've ever encounter in all of my travels…

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here very much. We would stay there again on a future trip and would feel comfortable recommending it to friends. The location is excellent and the space was comfortable, but our trip was made more special because of the warm greeting and interesting conversations we enjoyed with our hostess Maite. She is an engaging person, speaks perfect English and was very helpful when arranging travel plans or suggesting ideas for meals and excursions. Thank you for a great trip!

We stayed in the double room with private bathroom for three nights. Best thing about this casa is definitely its location: right in the middle of Havana Vieja; a one minute walk to the Obispo and within easy walking distance of any old Havana sight including the Capitol and the Malecon. The location competes for "best feature" with the look & feel of the casa (beautiful colonial style furniture and simple but stylish rooms) and with the kind staff. This casa is a bit different from other casas we stayed in when in Cuba, because its actual owners are Canadians who leave the day-to-day business when they are not there to the Cuban staff. So you should not expect a typical experience of sharing the house with an actual family and having the mother of the house cooking delicious meals for you, as you'll find in most other casas in Cuba. This casa feels more like a boutique hotel. Maite, the girl who runs the business, is friendly and very helpful and she speaks very good English which we found is quite a rarity in Cuba so take advantage of her knowledge of the country and city if you don't speak Spanish. The two maids are also lovely and cook nice breakfasts of fruit, bread and eggs (dinner is not served in this casa). Our room was good with a comfortable bed and two nice rocking chairs. The small balcony was a nice extra. From the balcony you can watch the Havana street life unfold beneath you while sounds of salsa music drifts up from the streets. It would perhaps be nice if the balcony would have stools to sit on. What would also be good additions to the room: bedside reading lamps and a bin in the room besides the one in the bathroom. This would be helpful because the bathroom is on another level which you reach by a fairly long staircase (which also makes this room and admittedly the entire casa unsuitable for those who are less mobile or who have walking disabilities as the casa has to be reached by a fairly steep staircase from street level). On the first two nights we did not have water in our bathroom and this was not the casa's fault but due to road construction outside. We were compensated accordingly by being offered free breakfasts on those nights and on the third night the water was running. In the meantime we were able to use the several good and clean common bathrooms in the hallway so it was not really a big issue. Upon our departure Maite was able to arrange a brilliant oldtimer private taxi to bring us to our next stop, Vinales. This was a the same cost for us as two Viazul bustickets would have been including the needed taxi rides back and forth to the bus station that are needed to secure those tickets in advance. Great and efficient help from Maite. Overall, though not necessarily the classical Cuban casa experience, we had a pleasant stay here and would recommend for its good location, cleanliness and friendliness of the people who run it. Transportation tip: should you arrive in Havana by Viazul bus from Varadero like we did, you can ask the bus driver to drop you in Havana Vieja right after the tunnel, near Museo de la Revolucion. You'll be within easy walking distance of the casa rather than when you take the bus all the way to the end of the line to the Viazul station which is well outside the old city center.…

This was my third time in this casa and I still love it. I think it is just the best and I can’t wait to go back. I was sorry to hear that Damaris and Yor are not there anymore but Maite is as good and nice as them. She is always happy to help and her English is perfect so that helps if you don't speak any Spanish :-) She got us taxies, she recommended good restaurants and really what ever we asked her. I think that half of the good vacation experience is the people that you meet and that is why I always did and will stay in this casa. Casa is in the middle of all "action” being walking distance away from bars, restaurants and night clubs. For more details see my previous review.

Are there any historical sites close to Casas Havana?
Many travellers enjoy visiting Old Square (Plaza Vieja) (0.6 km), San Francisco de Asis Square (0.7 km), and Palacio De Los Capitanes Generales (0.5 km).
