I stayed here for a week with my brother and sister, each of us in our own air-conditioned rooms. The casa was very clean and very charming, in a great location in Old Havana. Maite, Gelina and Teresa were extraordinarily kind and helpful to us - answering questions, helping us arrange transportation, attending to everything we needed. I can't recommend it highly enough, and will definitely stay again on my next visit to Havana.

Staying at this casa was the best part of our trip to Cuba! We stayed at an all inclusive in Varadero but I wanted to experience old Havana. This was a perfect base to do that from. The couple that run it are super friendly. The casa is newly renovated and is very clean! The view from the bedroom was amazing and let us as the guests observe life on the streets of old Havana.

Yor and Damarais were helpful (he is tour guide so has great English) but did not interfere when we went off to La Guardia and did not have a perfect experience of dinner! They just laughed with us and sent us to a better restaurant for lunch the next day. Damarais was very gracious and provided us with a snack of fried plantains and homemade guacamole that was delicious. She got us anything we wanted such as bottled water and served yummy coffee. Yor arranged for us to get back to Varadero in a big old American car but also provided a tour of some spots we hadn't yet seen in Havana then stopped at the Hemingway house as requested!

I did quite a bit of research on Havana and staying in a casa as a way to have a positive experience. I am so glad I chose this casa. I know they don't have many reviews yet but they are definitely worth staying with. For a super cheap price, you get lovely hosts, a great room with a private bathroom and a spot where you can walk to all the sights! I don't think you can beat that!

Very conveniently situated in the heart of old Havana this friendly homestay with its delightlful hostess Damaris and husband Yors is a great choice. Get a balcony room if you can - you can even listen to the music in the local bar (excellent) without leaving your room! Nice breakfast , spotlessly clean rooms and facilities and Damaris is only to happy to help you with taxi and homestay bookings in other parts of Cuba.

My husband and I stayed 3 weeks with Damaris and Yor and had the most amazing trip in old Havana. This is not our first trip to Cuba, actually our 15th or so, and once we stopped the resort thing we have always stayed in Habana Vieja in casas. There are many bad casas and we have found a few of them over the years! Since this casa opened last year we have stayed 3 times and each time has been great! Damaris is just the cutest, sweetest most helpful lady..from cooking delicious meals, frijoles negro especially, to laundry to just making you feel at home she great. Yor speaks 3 languages and is a tour guide for the Park Central Hotel and is expert at getting you where you need to go, and he has a great sense of humour! They are a great team always concerned about making sure that we were looked after....nothing was too much trouble.

The casa is beautiful. An easy flight of stairs up to the second floor which provides a great view to the street below! The bedrooms have great big doors that open to the street and balcony which provides non stop entertainment. The casa is filled with antiques and chandeliers and Damaris keeps it spotless..rooms have air conditioners and are very comfortable. A big bank is across the street handy for money exchange and great for privacy! The casa is central and close to Obisbo which has all the shops/restarurants on it, the harbour, Park Central and the Malecon..you really cannot get a much better spot!

We highly recommend this casa!

There was some confusion over arrival times and dates so we did not actually rest our heads at Casas Havana however Yor and Damaris found us a welcoming Casa just next door. We spent 8 nights in Havana and used Yor and Damaris's place as a safe haven for dinner one night, a bit of laundry, a morning coffee and much needed local advice. When we return next time we will be more organised and make sure we stay with this terrific couple... the accommodation is perfectly positioned in the centre of Old Havana and the Casa has a warm welcoming vibe. Thanks Darmaris for the great meal and Yor for finding us some great seaside accomodation at the end of the trip (in pouring rain when he had a touch of flu)- Cheers from Andrew, Jacko & Danny!

My plan going to Cuba was to stay beachside for 5 days and to travel into Havana to take photos for another two

I booked a room at the casa without knowing much beforehand (it was all very last minute). I couldn't have been more pleasantly surprised. I had such a fantastic time.

Maite, who runs the house, was always very attentive to cleanliness and made an extra effort to hang out and keep everyone happy. Her staff always kept the kitchen stocked with fresh fruit, beer and water, and my clothes were even washed for me.

Upon arrival Maite gave me keys to my room, which made me feel extremely safe, since I had lots of expensive equipment. The house was so easy going though that I didn't even feel the need to lock my door.

My room had a perfectly functional air conditioning unit, which makes for a comfy night of sleep. Linens were perfectly clean.

The house itself was right in the middle of town but just far away enough that you couldn't hear any of the nightlife when it was time to go to bed.

Maite was also great help finding all the right places to eat. They have a great relationship with a restaurant around the corner from the casa (O'Reilly 304). It was, hands down, the best food I've had anywhere in the world, let alone Havana--lobster and filet mignon for $10. Delicious.

Maite went above and beyond and found me a person to assist me with my photography. He walked the streets with me and made me feel like a true local.

Overall, this was a once in a life time experience. Couldn't be happier. Thank you Maite for being one of the best hostesses I've ever encounter in all of my travels

My wife and I enjoyed our stay here very much. We would stay there again on a future trip and would feel comfortable recommending it to friends. The location is excellent and the space was comfortable, but our trip was made more special because of the warm greeting and interesting conversations we enjoyed with our hostess Maite. She is an engaging person, speaks perfect English and was very helpful when arranging travel plans or suggesting ideas for meals and excursions. Thank you for a great trip!

We booked two nights at Casa Compostela for Feb. 28 and March 1 for a room with a balcony through a booking agent (casahavanaparticular.com)
When we arrived we were put in an upstairs room with no balcony and a window to the air vent. When we told Maite that Andre had booked us a balcony room she professed ignorance and said he always booked this room because of the ensuite. We told her we could show her a copy of the email and she said they were full.
We had arrived hot and tired from the bus station and were not offered anything and had to find a shop to purchase water
Maite gave us permission to sit in the living room since our room had no seats. We walked in there once and she was entertaining friends. As we entered she got up , said something to her friends and they all moved over to the bar where she offered them drinks, making us very uncomfortable and unwelcome.
We don't know Damaris and Yor, but do wish they had been there when we booked. Although We had a two night booking and Maite had agreed to give us a downstairs room for the second night, we left after the first night. It was a disappointing experience.

Wonderful hosts. Excellent location for walking around Havana Vieja; bank across the street. Casa access is via steep stairs. Simple clean rooms. Our family rented two: one with its own bathroom - access to which via steep stairs, other room shared a bathroom off the hall. Front rooms facing the street a bit noisy till bars close. Soap/shampoo not provided, towels yes. Good breakfast starting with fruit and juice followed by scrambled eggs, buns and coffee. Cannot say enough about how helpful our hosts were - explaining all about Havana Vieja, showing where/how to get Internet connection, organizing a day trip to Vinales, and taxi transport to Trinidad. Damaris is a star! Yor does city tours and has access to vintage car hire. He is very knowledgeable about the city, its history and some of the funkier areas of town. Thank you Damarys and Yor!
