This hotel is an imposing building on the edge of the city centre so it is easy to walk into the city, or to get a taxi directly opposite the entrance. The architecture has a 1960s look and feel about it, for example, the metal girders form part of the decor. I really liked the overall feel.

The rooms are clean and comfortable and there is a fantastic view over the city from most floors and from the rooftop.

The lobby bar is very relaxed and is an easy place to spend a couple of hours listening to the young pianist playing.

The pool bar is good in the afternoon, with a reasonable selection of snacks. It is Cuba though, so some things on the menu may or may not be available all the time. The burgers were very good.

The Pizza bar makes some very nice pizzas (big means BIG) in the evening although service can be slow when it is busy.

The buffet bar in the restaurant was perfectly ok in the morning, with freshly cooked eggs and fruit.

On the downside, when we arrived we were given a note that said there was a special offer of an international buffet for $16 in the restaurant that same evening so we decided to try it. This experience was very disappointing, the choice was quite limited compared to other Melias we had stayed in (for instance, Cayo Coco and Camaguay) and the 'freshly grilled' chicken was undercooked (pink in the middle) so we didn't use it again.

This episode had some positive outcomes though, we subsequently explored the Cuban private restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the hotel where we found we could get a tasty, well cooked meal (and a beer) for around $10 a head.

Back to the positives, the hotel is well located to visit the vibrant city centre (15-20 minute walk) so it is a good base for a visit. The memorial to Che Guevara is just over the road from the hotel.

Overall, I would be happy to use this hotel again but there are a number of hotels in the city that I will also check out before making a decision in future visits.

I visited Santiago city recently and stayed at a private residence. Decided to visit Melia Santiago as it was nearby and recommended by the home owner. As it turns out, we had such so much fun that we ended up going back several times during our trip! There were empanadas at the Cafeteria, which were delicious, as all the food was, surprisingly! The Lobby Bar has an extensive selection of beverages and I particularly enjoyed the coffee. We went back again and checked out the pool, the buffet, and the gym, where we even managed to book a couple of massages. Wi-Fi is also available for a reasonable price, that was a nice bonus!

During our visits we met Leo, the Entertainment Manager who was so much fun and he also told us about a Valentine’s Day promotion that included both the buffet dinner and a pool party that was so much fun! Leo was there welcoming all the guests and even though he was obviously very busy, he made the time to talk to us as well as other guests to make sure everyone was having fun. The entertainment at the hotel was amazing as well. We really enjoyed listening to a very talented group of female a cappella singers, a pianist and a trio of Cuban musicians, pictured here. All fantastic entertainers to say the least!

I very much recommend this hotel located in the centre of Santiago de Cuba.

There are many reasons why I come back to this hotel: You’re welcomed. They have something new and enjoyable for the family, and the service it’s amazing!! The Lobby Bar and the Snack Bar by the pool are amazing, the Capuccinos made there are unforgettable, once they know how you like it they manage to serve it as such. The Bello Bar is located in the 15th floor, this offer an espectacular city view at night, this could be very romantic or the great opportunity to dance salsa. It depends on the day you choose to go. In addition to that, the Restaurants are also outstanding, the Italian, the Buffet, and the Isabelica Restaurant, which for me it’s the best as it’s more private, more romantic, and they offer exquisite dishes with a great service, too. I would like to thank everyone in that beautiful hotel, mainly to the Customer’s Service lead Yadira Forgas, Carlos Batista, Pedro Larrea and the Maitre Luis Mario. Some bartenders that I can mention: Dayami, Yetzabel, Humberto, Victor, Yolanda, Alexis, Laila, Elcira, Maricel, Yusleidis, Yindra and I wish I could remember all the names. Thank you all!!

Stayed here on November 5th, 2022 for two nights. This is after 4 days since they reopened. The hotel facilities are outstanding, and the staff even more.
The welcome is great and overall feeling is that of a nice classy hotel. There were no limitations for food or drinks available. Breakfast was nice and freshly made. Pool bar and amenities also good.
Small items in the room that needed attention which were promptly remedied. overall a good experience.

Great facilities: restaurants, bars, pools, shops, money exchange etc. The roof top bar was particularly pleasant. Rooms had everything necessary and were comfortable. The lobby bar was a bit hit and miss: we stayed for 3 nights and the service ranged from extremely efficient to non-existent - I think it depended on who was working at the time, rather than how busy it was. It was frequented by several scantily-clad young ladies who were looking for company, but their focus was wealthy Cubans and not tourists. We weren't bothered by them, but there were some guests with children who clearly found it distasteful.
Most guests [not all!] dressed fairly smartly for dinner in the restaurant, where the waitresses were very friendly.

Very clean rooms, beautiful swimming pool and lovely, friendly and helpful staff. The food offer is also very good considering this is Cuba and shortages of different things are common. We stayed on the 10th floor in "The Level" rooms, and got bottled water every day as well as practical items to help with being out and about such as packets of tissues to take out with us (not everywhere, including museums and restaurants, have toilet paper all of the time!)

We had an excellent time here, and would recommend this hotel to anyone planning to visit Santiago de Cuba.

We cannot recommend this hotel at all. Rooms were dirty and really worn down and water coming out of the shower was brown and disgusting. Air condition was not working in any of the two rooms we had and despite having it fixed we ended up sleeping with 27 degrees as the aircon could not be turned down.

Restaurants and pool area was the staff was not flexible at all and it was definitely not suited for children.

The only good part of the stay was the staff at the reception. They were very helpful and nice.

We ended up checking out of the hotel after one night (we had booked 3 days) and went to a different hotel.

After our holiday to Cuba, both we and others successfully received partial refunds from our tour operators.

I am astonished at the claims of people saying it was a great experience.

We are well travelled but this was a particularly nasty holiday.
The weather was fabulous throughout thank goodness as most of the other things were not. The Cubans were nice people on the whole.

Trying to obtain cash out of you before we even left the airport.

There was little choice of food and the hotel was pretty poor, old and decrepit.

There were no menus you kinda got what they had

If you caught the bus/taxi into Varadero there was very little food to buy no matter what money you had they simply did not have it available.

Having been around that area many times to different Caribbean islands and to the United states it was staggering how horrible it was.

Hardly any cars, the people downtrodden, poor, cannot vote, cannot give their true opinions.

Be warned, stay away, perhaps it was good in the past but very poor now.

It’s a big world so don’t waste your money.

Even the airport VIP lounge was pathetic

Family trip on Mother’s Day. I was treated by security service rudely just because I wanted to spend few minutes with my mother in my room and give her a gift. No reasonable explanation just the perception that everyone has in that country that they can force and dictate all the rules. I will never comeback to that decadent hotel and it’s awful service

There is currently a Covid 19 Lockdown in Cuba and no international tourism is allowed. In the future when the Melia once again opens to International tourism IF their procedures are the same as they were in the past I suggest you purchase your stay there online prior to entering Cuba. Like most places in the world just walking up to a hotel and getting a room you will end up paying the "rack rate" which is typically MUCH higher a price than you would pay online in advance. The Melia in Santiago in over 10 years of staying there I have never been asked nor seen anyone asked to provide a credit card for payment although they do accept credit card payments as long as the credit card is not USA issued. As there is a USA embargo on Cuba you cannot use an American Credit Card for payments in Cuba. So get a reservation ahead of time and pay ahead of time or pay cash upon check-in at the highest room price. SO........Get a paid reservation ahead of time. The Melia is the ABSOLUTE BEST HOTEL IN SANTIAGO BY FAR and is a great choice. Awesome Outdoor Pool too at the hotel it's like this amazing Oasis of Calm in the hustle and Bustle that is Santiago De Cuba.

the question is intended for the hotel. They have something called the Level Lounge and some rooms have access to this lounge, Im wondering what's in the lounge because I cannot find the explanation anywhere in the website. I want to know if it is worth it.
