Just returned from Sun Beach. Luggage took an hour and a half for all people on our bus to get theirs. Then they found out after unpacking that it sat in the rain for an hour so their clothes were drenched. Bus ride was about 40 minutes. Check in was fine. Elevator to room is a little scary. Use one on right side. The floor in that one is more solid. Room is what it is. Had a toilet seat and air conditioner worked. Hit the Cuban jackpot. Sheets don't stay on bed so best to bring fitted twin sheet from home. Tv worked good. Had to spin it around the corner to view from bed. Has some good english channels though. Bathroom was fine. Shower had pressure and always had hot water. Cockroaches were in room twice. Just stepped on them. Problem solved. But best to close all entry points for them to get in. Under entry door or bathroom window. Had some pills stolen from carry on. So make sure to lock up everything if not using safe. Not sure how much safe even was per day. Or if it even worked. Other than my pills being stolen, maid was good. Just bring stuff from home to tip with. She didn't take the American money left on bed.

Now to the buffet. For breakfast only food worth eating are eggs at grill and toast. So grab plate and stand in line. In fact what they have on grill applies for all meals. Go straight there. Get spouse to get table. All food in trays at buffet is a mystery. You might sometimes find something edible. Rice and pasta were sometimes ok to eat. Don't get the idea that you will have a waiter or waitress. The staff is mostly there to clean up and not serve you. If you find someone who serves drinks then sit in their section your whole trip. People who eat there are like pigs in a trough. They will cut in front of you and push you. Just push back. In buffet you can get beer and wine. Wine is actually very good.

They also have 1 a'la carte restaurant. Never ate there so can't comment. But heard that they always ran out of everything very early.

Bars are good. Lobby bar takes a long time to get a drink in the morning due to everyone having a cappuccino. They do have premium liquor for a fee. Water and ice seemed good even if it appeared to be from tap. Snack bar is good. They have burgers hot dogs pizza and panini cheese sandwiches. Pizza is made with cheddar cheese slices so a little different tasting. They will run out of food items early so expect that. Even with drinks there its a crapshoot. One day yes. Next day no. The beach bar is good. Friendly guy working there. He actually smiles. Not very common for Cuban people. If you tip anyone I would tip him. But he closes from noon til 1 everyday. So you have to cross street and go back to snack bar. Then its the crabby people again. You will get used to hearing, NOT TODAY. Bring a big bubba to avoid walking so much. When at beach you have no restrooms. So use ocean or walk back to resort. Wear shoes too. Lots of twigs and road gets hot on bare feet. They have lots of chairs at beach. They also have peddle boats and kayaks. They also have a free catamaran ride that is awesome. Just have to wait for a calm day. Remember to tip the guy. Ocean is incredible. Very beautiful water. But later in day the currents are powerful. They will take you out and lifeguard will do nothing to help you. Actually 2 people died while we were there due to the currents. Respect this. Do not go over your head. Once the sea has you it owns you.

The resort pool is colder than the sea and gets lots of debris in it as day goes on. As far as towels go, GOOD LUCK. Again, not today was all we heard. Finally got towels on our last day. They play bingo and a few other games.

Money exchange at front desk was hit and miss. Again, not today. Not today is the Cubans favorite saying.

Entertainment for the most part was good. It is on the stage near the pool. Some shows included the crowd and was very funny.

Veradero is safe and has a lot of restaurants. But food there is a guessing game. In my opinion they just don't know how to cook. So go explore. Took the double decker bus for $5 a day and saw the whole island.

Could say more but you get the idea. Its Cuba. Expect the unexpected. Paid $382 for a week. Would I go back for that price? In a second. Just remember to bring peanut butter and salad dressing and sheets and beach towels. Just remember you are there for the beach and not the food or the people.

Well, you can hardly find a hotel in Varadero at Christmas time under 150 USD a night, This one was one third of that, You'll get a relatively good (and clean) room for the money, and 'todo includo' service, including an 'all you can eat' buffet three timers a day. Food is not good, except for the open barbecue in the middle of the restaurant, provided you want to wait in the queue for about 10-15 minutes before each meal. Abundance of fruits and vegetables though. The staff is slow, cold and demotivated. Location - right at the beach. Pool is clean and large. Social life basically non existent, if you do not count huge lobby where you can meet people. Your will be pretty much on your own. Walk to Varadero downtown will take 20 min. A little cute Cuban art craft market just around the corner. The trip and excursion agents very helpful, but the trips we took were not exactly what we expected.

What you pay and what you expect for your money will really influence your experience at Sun Beach. I booked last minute and got a week all-inclusive from Vancouver for $650. I had read all the reviews...the many bad and the few good...and took a chance on this place. I got my money's worth and then some.

You don't get much for $650 a week where I live, so this was a good deal. As many before have said, the place is really tired. However, the bed was clean, the room was ok, the meals were on time, and they never ran out of rum or beer. This was about all I was hoping for given what I paid.

The buffet is not going to make a princess happy, but if you are a regular guy like me, there was always something worth eating being bbq'd in the middle of the dining room, the bread is awesome and how can you go wrong with rice and beans? Other than that, like most all-inclusives, the morning fried eggs or omelettes are a safe bet, too. Other than that, I avoided anything with mayonnaise and anything hiding in batter. I never got sick.

The best part of this hotel is its excellent location. It is close to everything within walking distance and at most a $5 cab ride. If you can't handle the buffet, right around the corner are two excellent cafes that make great coffee and have prime location right on 1st avenue to watch all the sights.

The room was really weak, however, I can't say they are all like mine was. Unfortunately, my safe was broken and in pieces, to which the front desk didn't seem to interested in dealing with. As a result, I packed my valuables with me and avoided being mugged. The toilet was pretty gross, as whoever designed these things has the water splash/rinse the wrong side of the bowl. Consequently, the back of the bowl was disgusting with years of tourists use and no chance of ever getting clean again.

All in all, this place was a cheap place to sleep, have some drinks, the odd bite of food, and be used as an excellent base-camp to tour around everything else in Varadero. I would stay again as long as it was still super-cheap. I would not bring kids here if you plan to stay at the hotel. Pretty boring for little ones. Also, if you have to have a minimum 3 star Mexico or Canada standard...this place isn't for you. If you like travelling on the cheap and can deal with some minor inconveniences, then you will probably do ok here as long as you don't pay too much.

Great Value, best food we received in 3 trips to Cuba. Great location downtown Varadero and dont have to be confined to hotel. Price was so reasonable could afford eating out, but again the food at hotel was better than any restaurant

We visited this resort on March 14-21st. The hotel was great considering the price and we all had a great time. With that being said, there were a few discrepancies that we would like to solve for all of you. We have compiled a list of things that you should bring with you!
1. Large Bubba Mug. Due to the fact the beach is across the street and you're probably an alcoholic, you don't want to be walking back and forth.
2. Scented candles. The rooms tend to smell a little musky.
3. Pillow cases/sheets. No explanation needed.
4.Toilet paper. Carry this around with you because they only supply toilet paper in the rooms.
5. Towels. Bring extra towels for your room because they only supply 2 very small towels.

Extra tips.
Avoid the ocean when the weather is bad. Be aware of the flags on the beach as they are hard to see. The ocean under current is very strong!!!

Aside from these minor issues we loved our stay!! It was nice to be able to walk off the resort and visit other places. It was very close walking distance to shops, bars and a bunch of other cool things. The snack bar had great food. We hope this helps! Stay safe and have fun my friends!!! 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞

Please, please whatever you do, DO NOT stay here. I am fine with an older hotel, but this place is filthy. There were huge yellow stains on my sheets. I requested new ones, but they never showed. There were stains on the headboard which appeared to be blood (I did not get close enough to inspect further)- pretty much think of your nightmare hotel and this is it. We booked online without looking as we were using Havana's spotty internet, so we had to suck it up for one night. Which was almost unbearable. The beach in Varadero was so beautiful, I would suggest paying the money (WHATEVER THE COST) to stay at a nice hotel, or find a private room via Airbnb, etc. The Cuban people are awesome and Airbnb is the way to go. Will post photos so you can see.

We booked 7 nights (8th-15th. of December) the last week of our 3,5 month travel, just to relax and enjoy all inclusive not thinking about searching for restaurants. You know make it easy for ourselves.
The pictures on the website is kind of misleading, and then we haven't said too much . The water in the pool was all green when we arrived (luckily it got fixed a couple of days after), it might have been algae . The service was straight with nothing and all about the 'restaurant' was disgusting - surroundings, food, hygiene, everything . We choose to eat our dinner at restaurants outside all evenings, simply just to survive, even though it was way over our budget . When we entered the 'restaurant' in the mornings, all the tables was embarrassing dirty, the tablecloth were dirty from the day before and we had to hunt the staff just to get knifes and forks . They couldn't keep up with the dishes which meant that we most mornings couldn't get a clean cup to our coffee . The plates were dirty even though it should have been in the dishwasher .
The room and common-areas was very old, the furnitures was dirty too and not a place you would hang out .
We paid 400 € for 7 days which was an offer . We thought we got a good deal for a 3 star hotel. But our stay was not even the price-offer worth . We found it hard to believe that Sun Beach is a 3 star hotel .

Bring your own towels, theres are stained and smell bad. The food is horrible, whatevers leftover from breakfast they use for lunch and dinner, keep a fork and cup for yourself because they always run out of cutlery and plates during meals. The cleaning lady just makes the bed looks nice but doesn't actually clean anything/change towels. With 2 exceptions, the staff are RUDE and unprofessional

My friend & I went for a cheap last minute getaway and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. The reviews are not the greatest but we paid like $585 for a week and appreciated our trip. The rooms aren’t fancy but ours was clean and no bugs. The buffet always had something delicious but not everything was my favourite. The staff was great for the most part. Our attitude made our trip. The bathrooms weren’t good this is my biggest complaint. Take a bottle of spray cleaner in your luggage and always carry toilet paper or wet wipes with you.

Not sure who is in charge of this resort but they are doing a terrible job. We didn't expect much as we got one week for $535. Our room was clean enough but definitely could use an over haul. Beds do not have box springs so they were ok but not great. Had to turn often as my shoulders were always sore. Hot water was hit and miss but is quite dependent upon the weather. The water pressure was not great and one day wasn't even enough to engage the shower. The buffet is only mediocre however you may want your own cutlery and glasses as there were never enough to go around. No salt or pepper on the tables. The lobby bar is always busy first thing in the morning as that is the coffee station as well. Be prepared to stand in line. Staff were not the friendliest I've dealt with. Location is great as it is right downtown and across the street from the beach. Our flight left at 3:00 a.m. so we were displaced from our room from noon on. They advertise late check outs but the best we could get was a 4:00 p.m. one with a $15 charge. The beach bar makes better drinks with more options. If your expectations are very low, this is the resort for you. We were on the 8th floor and got stuck in the elevator 3 times. It also quits working at least once per day so be prepared to take some stairs. The railing in the stair well was absolutely filthy. Take cleaning wipes. If you don't like roughing it a bit, find some place different.
