Sol Palmeras is often commended for its cleanliness and the diligent upkeep of its rooms and common areas, though some guests have noted areas for improvement around the pool. The staff's friendliness and attentiveness are regularly highlighted, although there have been occasional service hiccups. Visitors' impressions of the rooms are mixed, citing both renovations and some shortcomings.
While the hotel's location garners praise for its stunning views, opinions on value are divided, with some criticisms aimed at the food and facilities. The atmosphere, buoyed by lively entertainment, is a standout feature, and the amenities, especially the beach, are generally well-received despite minor issues.

Detailed Reviews
First time at Sol Palmeras. We chose this place based on recommendations from friends who previously stayed there. Overall very satisfied with our stay. Definitely try to book evenings at the a la carte restaurants soon after you arrive. We enjoyed the Italian and Internacionale the best. The morning custom breakfast omelettes were very nice, same with custom pasta service. While the fish was very good, the beef is certainly of lower quality versus Can/US. Lots of variety of fresh vegetables and fruits. Food quality at buffet was ok, but not great. We would like to say a special acknowledgement to friendly servers Humberto, Angel and Yadil. Also Marcelo from the entertainment team.
The pool bar and beach bar staff were always friendly and a great atmosphere.
Suggestion to management, add another railing to help seniors and little kids get into the pool (with pool bar). There are also too many stairs in the resort with no railings. Pool temperature abit too cool. Lots of fun activities and entertainment.
If you get a chance, I recommend the snorkeling for an extra $20cuban/usd. Basically you leave from the beachfront of the resort and are taken on a Catamaran with resort guide only about 20 minutes away and they anchor over a coral reef With very clear water about 15-20 deep with lots of tropical fish. You can snorkel around 45 minutes then the Catamaran ride back. Less than 2 hours total for a decent snorkel experience.
Very friendly Cuban resort staff. We brought some extra toiletries, toothpaste, etc from home that we left each day for the maids. They were very appreciative.
Interesting to see that the Sol Palmeras beachfront was much wider than both of the very resorts on either side that had rocky cliffs for a lot of their beachfront. Interesting mix of guests from Canada, South America (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Chile), Russia and other European countries the week we were there. Overall a very enjoyable vacation spot!

Dear Bcanad, Thank you very much for choosing us for your vacation with your family and for your comments published on Trip Advisor, they help us in our daily work and indicate where we have areas of opportunity to improve our services. Thank you for these opinions, and I comment that we take into account your opinion on the pool and will put more railings. And talk to Cheff about his supervision of the meat. Also appreciated for his opinion on all the staff and especially Humberto, Angel, Yadil and Marcelo. We hope and wish that COVID19 will pass quickly and visit us again. Take care. From Sol Palmeras, receive best regards. Sincerely Tomeu Alcina General Manager

We returned in January for another 5 week holiday. I have been at this resort more then 12 times. I had read that some changes had been made and were shocked when we walked onto the beach. It had been reconstructed with more sand from the ocean and had new palapas since our last trip in 2019. It is huge and gorgeous with lots of room for the lounges.
The resort has 5 a la cartes which at times only 3 were open due to the resort not being full of guests. Our favorite is the Chinese. The buffet seating area is large and at times becomes very noisy. There are two grills where you can get your omelet made in the morning or other food prepared at night. There is a variety of food choices, beef, pork, chicken and fish to name some at the island. The only complaint I have is in the morning and sometime in the evening the food is not hot but barely warm. Complaining to the cooks did not bring any satisfactory results. The servers are very good at picking up the dirty dishes and refilling your wine glass. Thank you to Asaer, Jacqueline, Maylynn and Nivia for looking after us.
The maids do an excellent job of cleaning our room and always have.
The lobby has 2 bars of which only one was open this time due to the resort not being full of guests. Again thank you to the workers at the bar that was open namely Rene, Yamile, Ernesto and Alex for the good service. Also thank you to Omar and Fidel at the latino and Noel at the TexMex a la cartes for their good service.
The only negative things I have about this resort is at the beach there is a volley ball court where a guy is constantly blowing a whistle when a game is being played. This whistle blowing aggravates many on the beach who are trying to read a book or have a afternoon nap. The "only" people who should have a whistle and do are the Life Guards that walk the beach watching for swimmers in distress.
I realize that this is a family resort but "some" families need to take some training on how to look after their children. At the beach the children scream at each other and are crying while mom and dad do nothing. In the lobby bar area they let the children run around and again do nothing to stop the kids. In the evening the music being played next to the lobby bar is so loud that when ordering a drink from the bar the bartenders have a difficult time to hear you. Also when having a drink with friends one can't have a conversation because of the loud music. This doesn't happen every night so why is it not being controlled?
Thanks to Alicia, Gonzalo and Felix at the reception for their service. We can't wait to return for another holiday.

We have enjoyed our stay at this resort, and overall it is a good spot with a beautiful beach. Adjacent hotels did not have as good of a beach, so we were happy we were not there! The rooms were ok, nothing spectacular but ok. Cleaning was done daily, and we appreciated the timeliness of it. Air conditioners and mini fridges are too loud, need to be replaced with something better to improve sleep quality at night. Food: not bad, but if you are a foodie you will have to lower your standards. The food itself is not bad, but it lacks variety, flavor, and creativity. Oriental restaurant was pretty good, did not like TexMex and Latin as much. Staff was not as friendly or welcoming as one would expect. I think it might be a global issue though.
One kind request to current and future guests, as well as the hotel staff: we hope you feed those absolutely lovely cats who come by to ask for food and water. Please leave metal or plastic bowls of water for them outside! It is super hot, and it is a common courtesy in Canada to leave bowls of water for animals in random places outdoors so they can stay hydrated. We also sincerely hope they can be fed all the leftovers that are plentiful. All the cats were absolutely lovely, but you can tell they count on human help and needed food/water. We fed them during our stay daily, and hope this can be carried on by current and future guests (or by the hotel). One young cat in particular is extremely affectionate, not sure if anyone could adopt her if they live in Cuba or bring her back to Canada. She is very loving with kids and is starved for human touch and care. Her name is Uni (the one with light pink nose), let me know if you want more info. The other kitty is also very affectionate, they will make great family pets.
Overall we had a good time in Sol Palmeras, if the feedback above is taken seriously there is a great chance we will keep coming back.

We had heard good reviews from friends who had been in years past. We were so disappointed upon arrival. Check in was not quick, first thing they wanted to do was upgrade us after we had already paid good money for our family of 3. We declined the pricey upgrade. Our room was very basic which was fine but it had no dressers and minimal hangers in the closet. Nothing in the mini fridge, if you would like the fridge stocked it costs a fortune. One 1.5L of water was in the room for 3 of us, it was replaced daily but that’s not much drinking water. The first 4 days our room was cleaned nicely, can’t say that for the next few days. The towels were not hung up but left in a pile on my makeup case in bathroom. We were killing tiny ants that where on furniture everyday.
We have travelled enough to know that resort food is not always the best so we don’t have high expectations. The buffet was average. Service in buffet was hit and miss, dinner service seemed to have better service than other meals. Italian a l carte had horrible service that went along with the horrible food.
Don’t go to Sol Palmeras with hopes of having good drinks, the bartenders are so inconsistent with making drinks, they were awful.
The Lobby Bar has entertainment every night but it was so loud you couldn’t hear the person beside you talk. The outdoor entertainment was so loud that even plugging ears didn’t help.
Can get wifi with the purchase of wifi cards but the wifi didn’t always work.
Beach was nice, pool was nice.
Overall it was just not a great place to go for the money spent, and majority of the staff was not friendly.
The only saving grace to our vacation was we were with a great group of friends.

Where do I start. When we checked in we were offered an upgrade to the 4th floor for 20cuc per person per night (we were there for 10 days!). We declined were given room 1027 which had a problem with the toilet, the kettle, the wardrobe, the shower and the bathroom smelt bad.The room is on the ground floor with an open balconey overlooking the basket ball court.we went to guest services on the second morning to complain and were moved to a better room on the 4th floor at no extra charge. The food was not good mainly it was cold. The choices were a bit weird but we have been to Cuba before so weren't overly surprised. We atein the Tex- mex restaurant nothing tex or mex about it!. The international restaurant menu does not resemble the food given. The Italian restaurant was ok the food was cold. The animation team seem to have free range nothing on the enterainment board matched what was going on! They insisted on playing very loud music at regular intervals to announce the next activity. On one day on the beach the music was so loud that the shed where the sound system was, was actually vibrating. Don't even get me started on the evening 'entertainment' in the bar area. Whoever thought it was a good idea to have loud drumming etc. in an enclosed space to start the beach party is anybodys guess! Suffice to say we wont be recommending this hotel not shall we revisit it.

Excellent food, very family friendly location. Resort is well maintained - for a Cuban location and everything works. The washrooms always had toilet paper. Food options between 5:00PM and 6:30PM very limited.
One of our grandchildren lost a ring in the bathroom. The concierge got on the phone and radio and within a short period of time, the resort manager returned the ring to a very happy child.
Waiters do not walk around serving drinks at the pool, you have to go to the bar on the island.
On the beach there is lots of space and lots of chairs in shady places. Drinks waiters are scarce but if you tip, they will make the journey to where ever you are.

Had a good time at hotel once we got through with check in
There was only one person checking people in and this lady made you feel unwelcome,
She never once smiled, never even said hello , and to top it all off our room wasn’t ready so we had to put our bags into some small closet .
Once that was over, the rest of the stay was good
Sure the hotel is old and needs repair but your in Cuba, and only so much can be done.
The food was normal for Cuba, pretty bland
And not good cuts of meat. The buffet is the same every day, with very few changes.
The ala carts are fairly good but don’t expect good cuts of meat, remember your in Cuba. Fruit is very lacking, you get basic
Watermelon,pineapple,papaya,
I only seen bananas once in two weeks,
And no Berry’s at all.
The beach is fantastic, huge and lots of chairs and huts, always able to find somewhere to sit. The pool had lots of chairs as well no problem getting a seat
Unless you sleep till noon and then try to find a good spot.
There is a bar and food on the beach
But you have to go inside resort grounds to go to washroom from beach.
The drinks at all the bars are pretty basic
But that is normal for Cuba.
The biggest enjoyment was the kittens in the upstairs smoking lounge. They were a delight for everyone, both young and old enjoyed them, and I interacted with so many
People because of these cats, every nationality and every age group, many people who don’t even smoke when into the open air lounge to see these kittens,
The high light of the trip for many people,
So I hope the hotel realizes this and keeps these cats on the property, it would only take a little bit of money to get them fixed
And a lot of the people said they would pitch in to cover the cost.
I would recommend this hotel to others
After the check in period, for the two weeks we were there we watched others getting checked in and it seemed to take forever
And the grumpy lady was always grumpy
Just remember your in Cuba and a 5 star there is like a 3 star everywhere else.
And the country still has sanctions placed on it so they can’t get all the food and supply’s that other country’s get.
But the hotel staff really try to make your holiday a great experience.

The beach is fantastic. The sand is like sugar with no rocks as you go into the surf. Beach is nice and wide with a lot of lounge chairs and shade huts.
The resort is very clean, generally well maintained but it is a bit of an older building. Staff is excellent.
Food had decent selection.

positive:The resort is well situated and only a few minutes from plaza america. The double decker bus passes often so it’s worth hoping on and going to visit varadero. The staff is very friendly and available to help. We went with our 10 month old son and they were always so kind to him. The beach is beautiful but as you could expect we went during the month of February so the water was pretty cold. Lots of waves. No music at the beach so it is perfect to relax and enjoy your time there. The resort is somewhat kid friendly( activities during the day and a playground). If your kids are older than 5 , I would say they would like it.
Negatives: when we arrived we had bungalow #105 , which was HORRIBLE. Old building, with old moldy bathroom. There were hairs still in the shower and exposed wires. We asked to change rooms . The lady at the reception kindly offered us different options and we visited the different rooms on the resort. We ended up paying more money to be in the main building in a suite that was renovated and very clean. The entertainment during the day was very repetitive, same games, same questions. The food was ok. Every night they have a show outside and the music can be really loud. You can hear it from across the resort. You cant drink in the pool. The pools and the beach would need to be clean more often. People smoke alot so you can find cigarette butts everywhere and plastic cups from the bars.
In the end: it is okayishhh
But We wouldn’t go back.

Dear audreymU2293JQ, Thank you very much for choosing us for your vacation in the company of your family, and we are very sorry that your opinion is not completely positive, we apologize. We thank you for your comments published in TRip Advisor, help us in our daily work, and indicate where we have areas of opportunity to improve our service. We already talked to the housekeeper and the head of technical services about bungalow 105. Also with the Head of animation, on the subject of very repetitive animation and very loud music. We will pay more attention to beach and pool cleanliness. Waiting for a new opportunity, receive best regards. Sincerely Tomeu Alcina General Manager

Visited for a relaxing winter holiday. What we found was pumping music and loud whistling wherever you tried to lie and relax, even on the beach! There is an "entertainment zone and relaxation zone" but unfortunately the loud music does not understand this and it can be heard all over. Lots of large, loud Spanish families shouting and playing music around the pool and shouting, screaming, singing and banging around in rooms at 3am disturbing other people.
Try to go to the outdoor cooking area/BBQ at lunchtime and again, you get loud music or someone screaming into a microphone while you're trying to eat. The entertainment should be a choice to take part not inescapable if you choose not to. The beach party was very loud and could be heard in all the rooms till the early hours.
All there is to say about the food is, its bland and awful but probably caused by the country having severe shortages. We went to a nearby shop and it was empty apart from some bottles of water and packs of olives, a few mattress protectors and household ornaments. You can't buy snacks at all.
We hired a classic car and went to Havana for ÂŁ150 not including lunch. Beautiful crumbling place. The long lines of people waiting for food was disturbing.
Varadero have some private (I.e. not government owned) restaurants which are good value- we paid around ÂŁ60 for starters, lobster and drinks in Wacos bar. The taxi there and back was ÂŁ10 each way but you can also hire a classic car to take you, wait, then bring you back for ÂŁ25. Everywhere wants cash so take lots of small denomination sterling for tips etc.
The Russians are rude and will push to the front of any queue but the staff do tell them to join the end when they see them do this. The hotel is very clean and the room cleaning staff do a fantastic job.

Dear Cheesedrightoff, Thank you very much for choosing us and for the comments published on Trip Advisor, they help us in our daily work, and indicate where we have areas of opportunity to improve our service. You're right about the music, we'll talk to the head of activities so he can check its volume, what time it is, and where it's best to have it. Regarding the food, talk to the executive chef so that he trains all the cooks, we don't have supply problems, they just know how to cook. Apologizing for these inconveniences and hoping for a new opportunity, receive best regards. Sincerely Tomeu Alcina General Manager

4th floor. All with balconies
Things are as usual. No damages.
I was there in August this year and it was working at both:lobby and buffet. But at the lobby if crowded you feel it stronger in some spots only.
