Hotel Club Kawama seems to have a mixed reputation among guests. While the service is often praised for the staff's friendliness and helpfulness, some guests have experienced occasional lapses in professionalism. The hotel's atmosphere and amenities, including the beach and pool, are generally appreciated despite some reports of hot water issues and problematic bedding. However, many travelers have raised concerns about the value for money, pointing out overpricing and substandard room conditions. The location, on the other hand, is consistently recognized as a highlight of their stay.

As I have said in my other reviews this is not the resort for people seeking a 4 or 5 star resort. Kawama is old, quirky but has a special charm. We always enjoy staying here for many reasons including the staff, the beach and that it's close to town. I'm not one for staying in a large hotel with 12+ floors and Kawama offers smaller buildings with just 2-3 floors. This visit I was pleased to see more improvements to the resort. I found the pool area particularly clean, fresh and inviting. We spent most of our time on the large beach where there is splenty of privacy. There was a staff member on the beach everyday cleaning up garbage and debris - he worked long hours to ensure the beach looked clean and tidy. The a la carte Cuban Restaurant (El Brocal) was outstanding this year. Probably some of the best food I've had a Kawama. Chef Orlando was amazing and prepared some very delicious food. Thank you to El Brocal staff Maday and Yaniel. This restaurant is at the far end of the resort but it's worth the walk to the "41 Section" We stayed in Building 20 where we had new mattresses which meant very comfortable sleeps. Thank you to Vivian, Alina and Heidi who were also so helpful whenever I needed assistance at reception. A huge thank you to the buffet dining hall staff who work so hard everyday - Madelaines, Dayne, Raul, Yaniel, Yamile, Odalys, Onays, Cece, Margarita and others. You are all such special staff members. Oh, and we can't forget Reidel at the Grill preparing the tasty omelets and other lunch foods. Public Relations Officer Leida works around the clock ensuring everyone is satisfied and enjoying their visit. Even when she's not feeling well she's there giving 100% to the guests. Thank you Leida for everything.

paid for a superior room and had to fight with staff to get it. Only one key for our room and they were unwilling to have another made for us. We got nothing that came with the upgrading in rooms it was basically lost money.Front desk staff was terrible. Maid service was fair but the towels were only slightly larger than a hand towel. The food was very bland. The bar staff had a bell they rang when they got tips and it got so bad that every time you went to the bar they were ringing it in your face and pushing the money basket towards you.

This will be a mixed review. Like anything, this spot offered good and bad. To start, the rooms are old, run down, and in a bad state of repair. I booked a room with balcony. What I got was disgusting and the balcony was shared with other rooms. The clasp to lock the patio door was make shift, having long since broken many times and been mickey moused back together. Also, I am not a smoker and the ashtray was full. I am not anti smoking but when you book a room with balcony, the expectation is it is a private balcony. This room also had single beds? Not something I have slept in since I was 10, the AC was broken. the last straw was that I could not close the door...literally.It would not close. They finally did change my room, after 3 trips to the front desk. The next room was not much better plus there was no balcony although they insisted it was the upgraded category I paid for. At this point, I was happy to have AC and a door I could lock. I wasn't going to ruin my vacation worrying about a room, it was clean.
The food is terrible, the worst I have ever experienced. Although, the a la cartes were AMAZING! Not sure why such a contrast.
The drinks were extremely limited and warm.
The good stuff:
The beach, staff, entertainment, and pool area were exceptional. I really need to say and the grounds tidy and well kept. Being such an old resort, the building have great charm of yester years.
Overall, my vacation started on a sour note because of the room situation but the people here won me over. They try very hard to make your vacation the best it can be.
My biggest complaint is they are selling this resort at prices compararable to much nicer ones I have stayed in before. I understand the whole, 'you get what you pay for' but I paid pretty good money to go here so wasn't overly impressed with what was offered.
In the end though attitude and acceptance is what makes or breaks a vacation and this place did end up winning me over. If I were to find it on sale for a price more suited to it's amenities, I would go again but not for what I paid the first time.

This hotel is definitely the worst hotel I have ever been too. One of the staff first night short changed me on the exchange. That same night entered our room and only had one of the bed side lamps working, for the whole trip, I had to pick my battles. The air conditioning did not work and was leaking and had a pull of water under it for two days with the front staff assuring me that someone would be coming to take care of it. Eventually,on the third day it was fixed. My Father and I had the same towel for the whole trip 8 days and again staff and front desk would assure me that they were coming with new towels, they never came. I saw new towels for the new guests on the last day, but never got changed for us.On the third day she tried to tell me our towels were changed, but I knew they had not been changed as my makeup was still on it not mention glasses in room also don't get changed. The amount of deceipt among staff is appaulling. The all inclusive is a joke, wait 30 minutes to make reservations for their Restaraunts only to be told once you get to the restaraunt that they are out of gas. Get to one of their Restaraunts a different night and they're out of chicken and clear your plate before you're even done. I could go on. Also, the buffet restaurant servers and front staff are rude and just not happy. I was not the only one with issues their were lots of us on a daily basis I would here complaints from other hotel guests very similar to mine. Entertainment was a 5 out of ten. It was a shame. I won't be back to Club Kawama or Cuba not a fan if you are looking for a vacation spend more on a 5 star hotel don't spend your money on this hotel.

Horrible rooms food was gross no kids
Club at all no bottled water available no hot water toilet flushes and comes up through the shower drain..... 3 star rating is shocking, if minus -3 was available as a rating that’s precisely what I would rate this entire joke of a resort.

The music stops at 9pm if there is even music and the place is
Combing with angry people because this place sucks!!!!

We wasted our money take my advice and keep away from this horrible place

This hotel has more repeaters than any in Cuba, I've heard. I have returned 19 times since 2007. Once you learn the ropes you get used to problems with the rooms or food and take air fresheners, spices and a few things just like you would to your cottage up north. It's the oldest resort in Varadero and Cuban owned so they don't have the budget to keep it in top shape. I get tired of the draft beer and buy a case of cans for $24 CUCs for supplementing my diet. They have run out of things like flour, butter, vodka or whatever. You just eat or drink something else that day if you're a relaxed repeater. I find the food good but the buffet steam table needs the heat turned up. I've told them this for years. Obviously I'm not in charge. There were 100 other repeaters I know from past years when we were there the end of January. We'll be back in a few weeks.

I would like to start by saying I have had many visits to Kawama over the past 13 years. I have always been able to overlook the slight inconveniences and still give a good review until this year. It pains me to give a bad review but this is my honest opinion.

There were so many shortages with food, no cheese (hence no pizzas), no butter, no chicken, limited white wine and unfortunately I could go on and on. I was absolutely shocked to learn that if you wanted vodka you now had to buy it?!?!

No clean towels for your rooms or for exchange for the beach towels many times throughout my 2 weeks there.

The issues above are clearly not a direct reflection of the wonderful staff including public relations, reception, security, bar staff, wait staff etc., etc. However the management of Kawama needs to recognize there are huge issues and many bad reviews reflect this.

The loyal repeaters will continue to come back because we all love the staff and have built many friendships over the years. We have grown to accept the little issues that crop up. The problem is there are more and more little things every time I return. Such a basic thing as clean towels should not be considered a luxury. This is a necessity and replacing dirty towels on the rack that have been used and placed on the dirty floor should not be the norm 2 out if 3 days.

We do not pay top dollar to go to Kawama and I do not expect 5 star amenities but I think it's fair to expect the basics.

There was another large group of us this year (20 in total) all repeaters and honestly we had many conversations about how badly Kawama has deteriorated. We certainly won't make or break Kawama but we will all be giving serious thought to whether or not we will return.

It will be a very sad thing for me if I never return because it's like going home every year. But vacation is limited as are funds to go away. I want to have a enjoyable time away and not be annoyed by the lack of services and basic amenities.

Horrible stay, food and rooms were absolutely horrible. Meat was uncooked, lack of food. Horrid smell in room coming from toilet and bathtub. Pool are was dirty, no toilet paper or tissues in public bathrooms. Meat is so uncooked that you need to keep to keep repeating to the cook to keep cooking it! Linens and towels are soiled with blood. It IS A NO RETURN! Shut the place down! Dirty, no food, poor quantity poor quality and over worked staff! Beach area is the best place to be and should you choose to stay there, bring sheets, towels,s, facecloths and a lots of snaks granola, nuts, Pringle. Bits And bites anything that you can bring to eat

We have spent time at this resort multiple times and our experiences were great all the time!
The staff at the resorts are super friendly and very helpful!!! The AC in the rooms also works super great! We came from a cold climate and can't take the heat but the air conditioning works like wonders!
The beach is super clean and there are plenty of beach chairs to relax and take a nap. When we made an inquiry to the lobby manager about the possibility of setting up the net to play beach volleyball in the afternoon, she informed the manager who was in charge of the entertainment activities right away! We saw the manager digging a huge hole with a few other staffers and the net was set up and ready to play when we checked back, in less than 3 hours!!! We had a great time playing everyday beach volleyball with them and with other guests at the resort!
There were also lots of fresh seafood and fresh tropical fruits, and a variety of food everyday at the restaurant. The staffs were also super friendly in bringing drinks and food, and clearing out the table. The BBQ bar is also amazing! I've had the best-tasting beef burger of my life! The beef patty is great, loaded with veggies and the bread is freshly grilled and crispy!
The daily shows in the afternoon and at night time is also great! The programs are also constantly switched around so there are no repetitions and to keep the shows entertaining. Every host, performer, and DJ is putting in great efforts to keep the shows enjoyable.
The receptionist at the front desk explained very patiently to us all the details of how to use the wifi and the pricing. We are of the older generation and technology isn't always the easiest to understand, but the receptionist was extremely patient with her explanation and made everything super clear. It is 1USD for an hour of unlimited wifi. This is much cheaper than the international roaming plan that we have used in the past with our data plan.
We will be back again very soon!

We had a very nice time at Ckub Kawama. It was our first time to Veradero. Beautiful beaches. Considering this resort is one of the oldest in the area. Like anywhere in Cuba, its maintained as well as it can be. The rooms are outdated but they have everything you need. 110 plugs so you can use your appliances.
The staff is super friendly and will help in any way they can.
Only 2 out of the 4 pools were in service. But that was because the earthquake that happened a week or so before we arrived had cracked them and the water drained. They were working on them.
As for the food. Always something to eat. A good variety of fruits and vege. The hone made breads to die for. They have a 24 hour snack bar where you can get, hamburger, hot dogs, fried egg and ham sandwiches. Very good.
Now if your diabetic and like soda. Very hard to find diet pop. Suggestions if you like Mio or flavoring bring some from home.
Also bring bug spray. On the days were it is a little cool they have sand fleas.

Lots of day trips. And on-site there is Al Capone's brothel which are now rooms and Al Capone's getaway which is 3 Doors Down from it. Very interesting. You can walk right into Varadero to the flea markets and the restaurants which are very good and very cheap for 5 pay so you can get a half chicken dinner with fries. Very safe to walk around at any time.

All in all I don't know if I would return to this Resort but for the time that I had there I give it at least a four out of five. Lots of return visitors so if you need to know anyting just asked everyone so friendly.
Also lots of little lizards running around and a few cats and dogs.

Yes definitely towels. Bring extra for showering. We didnt have any towels for three days and speaking with a lot of other people they also had no towels. (Bath or beach) when we were provided with bath towels, they were the size of a tea towel. Toilet paper was accessible- we were able to ask our maid for like two a day and it was provided, however, to be safe I would bring your own. Also, for water. We were only provided with one 500ml bottle of water upon arrival and told thats all we get for the week. We had to reuse those bottles for our whole 8 days so i would suggest bringing extra water bottles or being prepared to buy some off resort. I have a lifestraw water bottle and would have preferred to have brought that just because when they fill your bottle- they touch the spout to the rim of your bottle- so everyones germs would be on there. We didnt have a balcony so I cant speak to that. From what ive heard most of the rooms seemed the same- just meh. We also didnt have hot water upon arrival and when talking to other people they also didnt have hot water and they were in all different buildings. The food selection was the same every single day. All meals there was fresh bread and buns, pineapple and a couple other fruits. Breakfasts were boiled eggs, scrambeled eggs, fried eggs, pancakes, and an omelette station. As well as some beans and other things i didnt really look at. Dinners was always beans, corn, pumpkin, white rice, rice with beans, yucca, and then fish, pork. They had a fresh meat station too where they would cook your meat fresh. We ate off resort a lot just because I am picky and really only ate the rice. Some suggestions for resteraunts off-resort; La Sangria: if you have pesos a whole lobster meal is 2000 (if you exchanged at 160/Usd thats 12$ish usd. But they will charge you 20$USD if you dont use pesos.) Their drinks are also really good and cheap. As well as their chicken and pizza Kikis: amazing pizzas, cheap, uses pesos also La Fondue: their fondue was really good and reasonably priced (takes usd or cad) Veradero 60: AMAZING, expensive (can use any currency) but so good, seafood linguines, spaghettis. They also have a really good frappuchino $5 USD La Barbacoa: very expensive but very good (takes USD) i got the surf and turf (42$Usd) but the lobster was HUGE, steak was amazing, also came with a small side of mashed potatoes and gravy.
