Room and view excellent. Food ok, it was our third time in Cuba food was not a problem. Italian , international and Cuban restaurants very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Only one problem just one elevator worked otherwise great time again in Cuba.

Was super excited to visit Cuba for my first time with my better half, the resort itself was outdated a little bit, but also a beautiful view on the beach with many pools, bars. The only downfall to staying here was it was overflowing with Russians, not only are they rude, and don’t respect others. They will push their way into every line you are in, cause a scene if you push your way back. You’re unable to book any reservations for dinner as they will spread out around the area, than yell at you when they want there place in “line” the amount of times they were pushing you to get their way into a place/food line/bar line/reservation was absolutely ridiculous, I almost tumbled over in the reservation line due to someone pushing me out of her way.... I thought manners was universal, but your outlook on that will change once you experience the rudeness of the Russians the resort was filled with... The staff were amazing, they always treated us like gold, respected us, and always made sure we had drinks! I feel sorry for them with the other people (Russians) who would constantly yell, bully them.... they are true hero’s for handling all this. The bartenders always made us feel at home, and welcomed every time we walked in. We were lucky to have been at the “quiet” side of the hotel, as we heard horror stories of the Russians who were yelling and slamming doors at all hours of the night. Absolutely no care for other people.

This place was an absolute disgrace! The worst place I have ever been to. I spent 10 grand to bring my family here for reading week. My son didn’t get his ocean view we paid for, they put minor children far away from the rest of group, bed bugs, broken toilets, broken beds, broken windows, food was terrible, no ice couldn’t get a cold drink, broken ac in some of the rooms we had, there was mold in all the rooms, ceilings falling down, safes didn’t work, door locks wouldn’t work, doors weren’t secure, and the staff and management were incredibly rude. The buffet was full of flys with little to choose from. Elevators didn’t work half the time. Worst hotel ever gave Cuba a bad name!

Wow where do I start...12 years going to this hotel and last year was the first hint of decline. We arrived February 6 expecting a great Vacation as usual. The hotel has 3 elevators for many many years only 1 and on occasion 2 elevators are working. The floors are spongy from many years of water accumulating a little frightening! You just hold your breath and hope you make it to your destination!! It can take upwards of 10 minutes before you even get on the elevator! This hotel is connected to the Sister hotel in all you have 2 pools and 2 kiddie pools .When we were there the swim up bar was dead wandering over we discovered the water was pure greenish yellowish it looked like many people had peed in the pool lol. They ended up closing the pool after about 5-6 days because no one would go there. They empties it out and it was full of algae and they finally cleaned it.now I will talk about the so called entertainment......During the day it is the biggest joke between guests!Nene who runs it does nothing but stand around the other fellow do as well Years ago we would do aqua exercises play bingo water sports etc well we were there 14 days at the pool every day from 10-5 2 times they threw a empty keg in the water about 330 and people would try to ride it like a bull and 3 times they had a spin game so in 14 days there was a total of 5 games!!!How is that entertainment??? They are more concerned with sitting smoking and drinking!!!Now onto the bar situation.....Between the hotels there use to be a total of 5 bars including 1 each at the pools well things have changed as the new Director or manager as we say has closed many bars During the day at the swim up bar is only hard liquor the other pool has beer and hard liquor keep in mind these bars close at 5 then in playa caleta they have only 1 bar and only serves hard liquor at the Puntarena there is only 1bar that serves beer and hard liquor So after 5 if you want beer there is 1 bar with it that is serving up to 900 guest!!! Do the math !!!When we were there every single day they ran out of beer not once not twice but 3 times!!!!!!One day we were so frustrated looking for beer we ended up buying a 24 pack from the cafeteria!!!! There was days I just wanted to leave!!!!The buffet was disgusting dirty dishes half eaten plates of food rude rude Russians that would almost tackle you to the ground to get in front of you and food that was unrecognized wow stay clear!!!!Since this new Director Vladimir has come the hotel is in a decline Staff is trying to do there best but he has forced them to work with nothing Like running out of cups straws and forget about a fruity drink there is nothing to make it with sad sad sad All being said I am sad to say after 12 years I will not return till the new Director leaves he has destroyed the hotel We have many friends we meet there every year and a lot of them also are not returning Thankyou to the staff that have stuck through this with the horrific Director that is unapproachable stays clear from the guests and hides Shame on you for destroying the hotel Shame shame shame on you!!!!

The beach view is incredible, and is something you'd never get tired of. The room was a little outdated, but clean and functional, and we had enough toilet paper and bottled water to be comfortable. The resort is listed as all-inclusive, which is true to a point. The buffet is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets, but outside of those hours, you're out of luck. The buffet itself is gross. Tablecloths are rarely washed - at breakfast one morning, the tablecloth was covered in stains. Napkins are in short supply, as are spoons. Often, there were no clean plates or glasses available. The white chairs were filthy...many weeks/months of dirty handprints on them. The buffet had a lot of flies landing on the tables and the food. Hygiene was a definite concern. This resort's guests were mainly Russian and I was taken aback by their rudeness. When the elevator doors open, they push their way in or out, not waiting for anyone else to pass. At the buffet, not only did they barge into lineups, but I rarely saw any of them using the utensils. I don't know if this is just a cultural difference. Every Canadian we talked to said the same thing, and so did some of the Cuban staff. Cuba is a beautiful country with lovely people. I'm not sure I'll return though, and I certainly won't return to Puntarena. Even the washrooms in the main lobby didn't have soap or toilet paper. I hope Puntarena is able to improve this resort for the sake of retaining good Canadian tourists.
