Mary and Angel are wonderful people so helpful and very accommodating. The home is very clean and well kept. The locations is perfect a 2 minute walk to a beautiful beach and close to many restaurant options. There is also room to park a car should you require a rental car. I was there during COVID and felt very safe as all protocols were followed. Mary also speaks English which is very helpful. I would defiantly stay again!.

We stayed for 5 nights and our hosts were on hand to welcome us. Nice room, plenty of space in attractive courtyard both open and sheltered and very nice breakfasts. We had to leave early on two mornings but our hosts were insistent in providing breakfast. The nearby beach is stunning and there are a number of good restaurants and cafes within an easy stroll.

Mary and Angel arranged a really last minute room for us after our original casa wasn’t what we had booked. Within 40 minutes we came over and everything was arranged. The casa looks amazing and de breakfast really good! The first casa where we could get French toast for breakfast and it was delicious!
The casa is near the beach en near the center. Not only the casa was amazing but what a lovely people Mary and Angel are! They speak good English en always in for al chat and really interested in their logees. If you are looking for a real cozy casa, don’t look further!

SHORT VERSION
I have been travelling to Cuba for the past 9-10 years. I have stayed at both hotels and Casa Particulars primarily in Havana, Cienfuegos, Trinidad, Santa Clara, Remedios.
Hands down, THE BEST Casa I have stayed at long term in all these years. Clean, good location close to beach & restos, amazing (AMAZING) hosts who provided a good balance of privacy and attending to the guests; organic local food. Highly recommend.

LONG VERSION

Who we are:
• Quiet Couple in mid-forties. We are way past the party days.
• We like to walk, explore, relax and eat amazing local food while on vacation.
We don’t crave fast food or ‘North American/Toronto City Food’ (ie Fries, burgers, hot dogs/pizza) when away.
• We don’t like to stay confined in one space and also have a need for privacy.
• My Husband speaks English/Spanish, I speak English/French.
• Our requirements for any place – Cleanliness, comfort, location & privacy.

If you have similar tastes, and can relate, then keep on reading.

For the above reasons, our past trips were usually half Casa and Half Resort. But at this point, we decided, for the sake of tranquility and escape, we would try
Staying at the Casa the whole 16 days. Absolutely no regrets. It was by far, the most quiet and relaxing trip we have had in 9-10 years.

Nights stayed
• Last year, we stayed 8 nights
• This year, we stayed 15 nights from 2Feb to 16 Feb 2020

How we booked
• We booked directly with the Casa.
• Based on all the reviews, I suggest that anyone who books be careful with who they are booking through.
• A lot of 3rd party services tend to rip people off or not book / confirm with the host.
• We had no issues booking directly with the casa. They have their own website; just google it.

Airport to Casa
• This year, the host could not collect us at the Airport themselves, so they sent a taxi there for us.
• The taxi representative had a card with our name and was professional the whole ride, with A/C

Location
The casa is right in the centre of town and easy access to everything you need while on vacation:
• literally a hop, skip and jump away from the beach (200 meters). 3-4 minute walk (we timed it)
• Down the road from the house is the club Casa de la Musica & Varadero 43 (a well known Beer Venue/Beach pub) where Beers are Blonde, Amber or Dark, pints about 2 CUC each.
• The 24 hour bakery is across the street, 1.50 CUC for 10 fresh buns of bread
• The mall ‘Hicacos’ is literally across the street to the right
• The local resto ‘Sabor Cubana’, is 2 blocks down, a whole meal for 3.25 CUC.
• The Varadero ‘La Bodeguita del Medio’ is 2.5 blocks down, closer to beach.
• The Italian resto Paladar Nona Tina (Italian Food) & La Vicaria is 5 blocks down
• Esquina de Cuba (resto) and La Vernissage (like an all night deli/resto), along with the Banks/Credit Union, 6 blocks down.
• If you don’t mind walking towards Beatles(Bar), Calle 62 (outside night life and music) towards Josone Park, it is about a 12-17 minute walk the other direction (10-13 blocks down)

Casa
• The Casa is akin to a boutique hotel, servicing 3 rooms.
• The Rooms are part of a small gated house compound, but not directly inside the house where the hosts reside. So you it is as if you are in a boutique hotel.
• There is a common space where you can eat, read, have coffee or just relax and chat.
• You are provided keys to the room, safe and also 2 towels for the beach.
• There is a place to hang the towels outside to dry and also, when you come in
• There is a water shower/hose closer to the common area to wash off any excess sand after returning from the beach.

Internet
• The Hosts have internet.
• You will have to purchase an ECTESA Card. You can go to the local ECTESA Store (The building on 1st Avenida, down from the bakery). Bring ID.
• Or, you may purchase an internet card from Mary & Angel (Casa hosts).
• At the time or writing, there appeared to be a glitch: If one guest logs on, it opens up free internet for the other guests. So essentially, you can use one card for you and your travel companions. Again, it was a glitch, so this may change down the road.

Rooms
• Last year we stayed in the bigger room which can fit 3 adults or 2 adults with 2 children (room #3)
• We briefly stayed in Room #2 which is good for a couple staying a few nights.
• This year we stayed in Room #1, which is also good for a couple.
• The rooms all have Bathrooms and Wardrobes with about 6-7 hangers. If you are a stickler for hanging things, you can bring your own like we did and leave them there for other guests.
• There are 2 hooks to hang your bags/towels.
• The A/C and Fans work perfectly fine.
• There is a TV, but limited channels. Most English shows come on MultiVision at around 845pm.
• The rooms are cleaned daily and towels changed every other day.
• Pillows are standard Cuba pillows that you would find in most places. So if you are picky or need additional neck support, I suggest you bring your own. I have done this and most travel pillows are easy to pack.
• The sheets are clean and there are blankets if you decide to keep the A/C on at night.
• There are fridges in the room to keep your beverages. If you keep food, keep it inside, but recommend you do not eat in the rooms. It is a tropical country and ants are waiting to pounce on a drop of sugar (haha). The common area outside has tables and the garbage bin nearby to toss your trash when you are done.
• The rooms are non-smoking rooms. We appreciate this.

Room Attendants
• Elena and Alex attended to our rooms. Amazing personalities.
• Alex has been with the hosts for years. He is a retired professional dancer (more below).

Note: We are the kind of couple who will leave at least 1 CUC a day for the attendants and a little extra on our last day. We feel that it is not a lot, given the amount we spend on any given trip.

Breakfast
• Breakfast is served between 8am and 10am.
• Vegetarian friendly: 2 eggs or French toast, local Fresh Fruits, Fresh Fruit juice and Cuban Coffee or Tea
• For extra money, you can get ham
• Lots of Fresh bread and Fresh butter and fruit jam

Afternoon Coffee
• The hosts offer extra service of beverages such as Coffee or wine.
• For an additional 1 Cuc per person, we had wonderfully made Cuban Coffee every afternoon. Ironically, on a hot day, it helped cool our bodies down.

Salsa Lessons
• As noted above, Alex is a professional dancer: a graduate of the Escuela Nacional Cubana de Ballet (I think that is the school). He performed at Tropicana and with different troupes at different hotels.
• He speaks Spanish, English, German and Italian.
• While we did not take any Salsa lessons, we know that the other guests did. Coming from a dance background myself, I can say he is an exceptional teacher. For anyone interested, I highly recommend taking lessons.
• The lessons are done privately at the home’s common space and no one will be staring at you during that time.

Hosts
• Mary and Angel are overall amazing hosts. They are the owners of the casa. ((We understand that at times, when they are not there, they have other who care for their guests, but our experience with the Owners as Hosts))
• They speak basic English (just like my basic Spanish) so if you don’t speak Spanish, as with any other country or any other language, speak slow. (They speak Spanish slowly for me so I can understand LOL)
• They will tend to your needs, but equally, they give you all the privacy you need.
If you have questions, they will do their best to answer it.
They know the area well, it is their territory, so do not hesitate to ask.

Tip: I have observed some guests ring their doorbell at 11pm at night for non-emergency situations. I think most guests have common sense, but if this is your first time travelling, I recommend that if you have any non-essential emergency questions, it would be more considerate to wait until the morning. If other guests are awake, you may want to ask them.

Overall: We highly recommend staying at this Casa. They are very popular, so if you book, book in advance. They book up quickly. If we could give 10 stars over 5, we would do it. But that is just us. Your experience will depend on your needs, expectations and perceptions. This was ours and hope that any of the above will help you navigate for your next trip.

Gracias por todo Mary y Angel!!!
We had a Fabulous time and we hope to see you all soon!

This was my first experience at a Casa Particular and it was fantastic!

The room I stayed in was very clean and the shower, fridge, safe, toilet and AC all worked perfectly. I didn't watch much TV but I did turn it on once and it doesn't work well. Towels, toilet paper and beach towels are provided. Maid service is provided daily. The safe won't fit your iPad but will fit most other valuables (camera, phone, money, passport, etc). The room is a little smaller than one you would stay in at a AI resort but it's fine and the bed was more comfortable than other beds that I've slept in at AI resorts. I saw one ant in my room in the week that I was there so no worries about mosquitoes, cockroaches or any other bugs.

The food served at the casa is very good. Breakfast is served every morning with a fruit plate, juice, coffee with milk, toast with jam and butter, omelette with your choice of ham, green peppers, onions, potatoes and cheese. Dinner is available but needs to be ordered in advance and you have a choice of chicken, pork, beef, fish, lobster or a seafood combo - all are served with soup, vegetables and rice (the sides vary slightly by day). I don't want to list the prices as they may change over time but the prices were fair in my opinion. There is a snack shop across the street from the casa that's open 24 hrs and they have great snacks like hotdogs, pizza and sandwiches for really good prices and you can buy water and beer at that snack shop for the same prices as the grocery store.

Mary and Angel are great hosts. Angel speaks a little bit of English and their daughter speaks English and German. Of course, they all speak Spanish.

The casa is right in front of la avenida primera (the main avenue) and it's in walking distance to the beach, restaurants, snackshops, shopping, el centro comercial (mall), spa, gym, nightclubs (Casa de la Musica, Calle 62, Havana Club).

Saludos para Mary y Angel!! Muchas gracias por todo! Fue muy bueno!! Quedare aqui otra vez!!

After staying in casa de Mary y Angel, one thing is sure for me: When I go back to Varadero (which I definitely will:)), I will stay with Marisabel and Angel again!!! I found this really nice looking casa in Tripadvisor and after reading the judgements I was sure about making a reservation here. Lucky for me that there was a picture of the Business Card, which was very helpful for contacting Mary via Email. The kindly and rapid respond making me feel safe and warmly welcome before the actual arrival to Cuba. But this was nothing compared to the nice, warm and happy welcome which I experienced upon Arrival. It was like getting home to your Family instead of living in a strange place with strange people. Mary and Angel and their whole Family who is participate in the whole Business are so nice, helpful and appreciate your visit in any way there is. I had visited some casas in Cuba (it is the fourth time I am here), but this casa is the best I have ever seen! The room was quite, comfortable, very clean and big enough to stay for a longer time. The bathroom is very high Standard for Cuba - especially the water amount in the shower is the best I have ever experienced in Cuba. Even if I did not need it: hot water is also available in shower - this is not always a given. Alexander is also a part of this Family who cleans the rooms. He is the first Cuban that I met who is able to speak 5! languages. He is very sweet and helpful in any way. Luckily the rooms are also equipped with air condition and a Ventilator. This could be very important - especially in May when there was no day under 35 degrees:) Besides the Special People you meet and the very comfortable rooms, there is to be mentioned the great tasting Food. Every meal, breakfast, lunch or dinner, was a Highlight and eased me easily in the cuban cooking style. They were all so delicious that we never eat some place else. Angel made me a german platter as well one day:) Incredible! The breakfast is typical cuban with fresh fruits and Juices, eggs and toast - it is never boring...for lunch we ordered just a small dish like Tortilla with bred and frensh fries or Sandwiches. Great and just right for the Price and weather temperature:) The dinner was typical cuban cooking - the best I have ever tasted. Something that you could never enjoy in any Hotel. And even though I never tasted it: where can you eat a whole lobster for only 15 CUC?! The dinner is only 10-15 CUC, depending on what you choose, but always includes a first course, the main course and a Dessert. It is more than you can eat! And one Special treat is Angel`s Digestifs: Amaretto or just coffee - which you prefer!
Another great plus is the Location. The casa is approx. 50-100 m from the beach of Varadero! And the best part of this is that there is a rancho directly at this part of the beach where you can eat and drink or just use the toilet. Or, what is more important, you can rent a sunlounge for only 2-3 CUC per day. This is more convenient even if the sand is like silk. All in all we had 7 incredible days with Mary y Angel and I would never like to miss them. I found new friends which I will Keep in contact with. This is one of Cuba`s best sides: stay in a casa is like staying with friends or Family! I myself work in a Hotel, but I would never ever book a Hotel in Cuba! Because the best places with the best Foods you can only enjoy with the cuban families! And Mary y Angel are Family now!!!! Thanks for a pleasant time....I will return!
So if you like to check it out:

Casa Mary y Angel was the first casa of our trip through Cuba. The bedroom and bathroom were very clean and all comfort was available. Mary and Angel were super! They were friendly and made us feel very welcome. We only stayed one night, but our impression of Cuba already made a perfect start. We had dinner the same evening, and I must say, it was extremely delicious. If you don't know what to eat, have the langost! Also the rest of the meals were really really nice. This is one hell of a good cook! The casa is very cosy, especially the inner courtyard with a very nice terrace under the tree. We really enjoyed our first night here, and would come here again if we ever come back. Higly recommended by Marc and Tracy from Belgium.

We stayed for four nights in May 2012 in this wonderful casa in Varadero. It is in an absolutely brilliant location, 2 min walk from not only the beach but a section of the beach with a beach bar too.
Like some other reviewers here, we cannot speak highly enough of Angel & Mary, they were the perfect hosts and made us feel like part of the family.
Angel met us at the Viazul bus station and walked us back to the Casa, on arrival there Mary brought us out cold OJ as it was a very hot day. We instantly felt at home and really happy with our choice of casa. We ate at the casa that evening and the food was excellent as was breakfast every morning.
Our room was spacious, nicely decorated with comfortable beds, good strong air con and a really good shower. It was also the only casa ive ever stayed in that had a TV in the room.
Angel and Mary were almost always at home and would always stop and chat and although im sure theyre both very busy people running the Casa they make you feel like special guests.
Some nights we would just buy some beers and chill in the rocking chairs in their garden as it was such a nice atmosphere in the home. We were there during the celebrations for mothers day and they even brought my girlfriend out a rose for it, a lovely touch.
If and when i return to Varadero I would be really disappointed if i wasnt able to stay with them again. Top class!
PS some of the 5 star hotels around Cuba could learn alot from Mary & Angel's customer service.

The casa is very clean and you get new towels everyday. The owner family / staff is really nice and always happy to help you. The casa has a terrace in the shade with a outdoor shower, lovely to wash the seasalt off and dry a bit in one of the rocking chairs on the terrace. The breakfast is more than enough and nice. The rooms are not very atmospheric, but they're the perfect beach condo for your stay in Varadero. The location is great, located at a 3 min walk from the beach (relatively calm part, so that's nice) and there's a supermarket across the street. I would definitely recommend this casa!
