The safe is free, though if you have multiple room keys only one works. That being the key you are given the night you arrive. (You have to wait for your second day there to get a second room key. Not sure why, that's just their system I guess) Though thankfully they gave me one when I was locked out of my room at 2 am. (6 hours after I checked in on my first night there lol)
Everyone has a different story regarding water. When I arrived there was one 1.5L bottle in the room. This is refillable at any of the bars with their filtered water which is also how the ice is made. It's cuban water and tastes different than the sealed bottle water but it's safe. I even had a handful of water from the bathroom faucet every morning to take pills. No issues. but getting back to the provided bottles in the room, I had a new bottle provided every morning but I also left some little presents every morning for the maids so who knows if that had something to do with it. If it's really a concern the hotel has a little store where you can buy individual 1.5L bottles for 2 CUC. It may seem like a hassle but when you consider how many Canadians spend money on bottled/Culligan water in their own country when Canada has some of the best water in the world it's silly that people post negative reviews over such trivial things.
