I booked this as a budget vacation, travelling as a single woman for a bit of heat, away from the frigid temperatures in Ontario.

My husband and I visited this hotel for drinks only but could see it was run down and needed some upgrading just by using the bar and patio by the beach. The patio hadn't been swept for who knows how long? Broken chairs, No sign...More
We just returned from Los Defines after being there from Dec 26-Jan 6. We got an incredibly good price for the 11 nights (1825.00), so I had my expectations in check even though it was our first time in Cuba.

I'd say a 3/5 for cleanliness. Housekeeping staff cleaned the room well but the walls were pretty banged up. We would see drink cups and plates in the lobby. Sometimes drink cups and cigarette butts on the beach. There is a fridge but there is nothing in it - not even water!
The beds are low and hard. There were lots of loungers on the beach. There are lots of restaurants nearby with their menu posted (there's one next door, and a couple a block away on each side) Good prices. The hotel is right in the middle of town and you can walk from one end of it to the other - just turn right or left. I found it very, very safe and did not feel uncomfortable at all.
