Detailed Reviews
The Staff at Sutton Place Hotel were incredibly warm, welcoming and helpful throughout my stay. The ambience is always inviting and comfortable. Yes you guessed it, this was not my first time at the place and I hope it would not be my last. The room with its vintage furniture was kept in immaculate condition and provided a cosy retreat.
Located in the center of Dominica’s capital, this family run establishment provides a secure and safe environment for its guests, not only for those seeking to conduct business on the island but also for anyone wishing to explore the town with its friendly folk and an opportunity to experience the island’s rich culture. The hotel is within easy reach of shops, eating places, transportation and the night life on offer.
If you prefer to dine in, the newly opened café is an ideal spot for breakfast and lunch where one can sample its delicious local cuisine. Sutton Place Hotel is a convenient location for the Creole Festival, Carnival, Christmas and many other popular events held on the island.
Your tour operator will be only too willing to pick you up and take you around to the many interesting sites on this mountainous gem of the Caribbean.
A big thumbs up for Sutton Place Hotel.

Situated in the heart of the capital Roseau, this hotel is ideal for the business man or woman as well as visitors like myself who pop in for that brief vacation. The Management and Staff at Sutton Place are warm, attentive and accommodating. Whether on business or vacation, take in the sites of this charming town which in so many instances is preserved in a time bubble. It was a nostalgic experience for me as Dominica used to be my second home. Tours are available to the many sites on this lush, mountainous land known as the Nature Isle of the Caribbean. Taste the delicious local cuisine at nearby restaurants and enjoy some of the night life... be it jazz or karaoke just a stone's throw away from your temporary home. Dominica is well known for its Creole Festival which takes place in October. Don't miss out on it! Visit the nearby old market, pick up a few souvenirs then take a cool walk to the fresh market to partake of the locally grown produce. Meet and mix with the friendly local folks. Thank you Sutton Place for the memories. Till we meet again.

We arrived at 1am in the morning after delays at the airport but check in was smooth. We were quickly given our keys and were in our rooms (shame about no lifts but I knew this before hand) the suite was lovely and comfortable. The breakfast wasn’t very filling and I ended up buying things to make breakfast. I did have to ask for coffee refills but this was done swiftly.
The 2 ladies on reception were very friendly and helpful.
Despite the mini gripes I would definitely return here.

Is the best word to describe my stay
I recently travelled to Dominica for business.
The Sutton place was perfect as being in the middle of the islands capital allowed me to easily handle my business across the town.
After each long day it was nice to know my room and bed were always close by. The room in particular always felt fresh and clean on my return.
From day one the staff were very helpful and efficient with fulfilling any of my requests. With their excellent local knowledge I was able to easily find my way around, on foot or through a taxi which they had organized for me.
Will definitely be staying with them on my next trip and will advise anyone else to do the same😎

Reception and manager are not helpful at all. Rooms are not clean. One receptionist didn't even bother to say hi but instead looks at you from head to toes. Each receptionist gives you different information so cannot really trust anything they say. For this money you can definitely get nicer place and better customer service. Loud music every day from 7pm until 2am at least, so if you like to sleep this is surely not the place for you as it is right next to bars.

Unfortunately We were in Dominca on business and was only there for 3 days, June 1st to the 3rd 2004. Our client booked us into the Sutton Place. The Staff was excellent as was the service... The room was well furnished and was spotless. What amazed me was the friendliness of the staff and management... After living in the Caribbean for over 10 years this is generally not the case however in Dominica it most definitely was. The people that ran the restaurant couldn't have been more dedicated to our attention. When I informed the rest. manager that I was a very early riser (3am) and was interested in getting a coffee maker for my room, she told me not to worry about that and each morning I would come down to the restaurant and just turn on the machine. Apparently she would prepare a pot of coffee late at night and all I had to do was turn it on in the morning. The food was plentiful and prepared to high standards. The prices are incedibly low especially for the Caribbean. The Sutton Place is one of the finest places I've stayed in and I've been in nearly 300 hotels in the recent past. If you are planning a vacation to this beautiful Island you would do yourself well to stay at The Sutton Place. Iff you haven't considered Dominica as a vacation destination you certainly should.

My fiance and I stayed here for one week. Both the hotel and the room were very nice. It was a rich, traditional decor. The king bed was two singles, pushed together.
The service was inconsistent and you weren't sure what to expect each day for towels or breakfast. Below-average service seemed to be the theme for the whole island, so I would call the service average for the area. The included breakfast was less than you would expect at a continental, so expect to purchase a breakfast here or somewhere else. When we tried to order breakfast here, they weren't able to make either of our selections, french toast and banana pancakes. We found this type of thing common at other restaurants on the island, too.
The hotel was protected by a security guard, which is comforting when you are surrounded by third-world country. There were a few regular bums that would pester you in Roseau, so it was nice to have the guard there at the hotel if they made you uncomfortable.
There are only a few hotels that I would consider if I returned and this is one of them.

Pales in comparison to even the most basic places you can stay. This is probably the worst place to stay in Dominica especially for business travelers. Old, broken furniture, indifferent staff, unclean, noisy and absolutely not a place I would stay in again. If you have any choice in where to stay, don't pick here!

We stayed at this hotel from March 19th to April 5th 2013. We started off in Room 1. There was only one plug in the whole room that could be used to recharge all the things that we had (iphone, camera, mobile etc) so that was the first problem. On the balcony was a bottle of beer full of cigarettes. We couldn't open the door to the balcony which was the main reason why the maid informed us that she hadn't seen the bottle because she too couldn't open the door. We ended up leaving it open once we managed to open it. There was only one bedside cabinet and we had to request another for the other side of the bed. There was no hot water in the sink tap. The breakfasts were very meagre: we had to beg for more butter and jam each day making us feel uncomfortable and also making us look as though we were complaining each day (but we weren't, we simply had to keep asking for something that should have been widely available at breakfast!). We complained to the hotel manager after my husband plugged in an item and the plug nearly electrocuted him. We were moved from our ordinary room to a huge, massive suite upstairs.
We were very impressed at first but soon found even more problems. One thing you need in a very hot country is either a ceiling fan (or any kind of fan), or air con. There were two ceiling fans in our suite so we thought we were lucky; however only one worked and that did not spin fast enough to actually create any wind flow around the room and we ended up switching it off. We then put on the air con but again we had an issue. The air con worked but the air vents only pointed downwards and not outwards so all the air went straight down the wall and the room just boiled. The slats in the windows looked great except that at nights because there is no glass in the windows (just slats) all the mosquitoes come and bite you whilst you sleep! I was covered in bites by the morning and itched like hell! The other problem was that although we had a kitchen in the suite when you opened the fridge door the small freezer door across the top of the fridge fell open and you couldn't reclose the fridge door without holding the freezer door and then having to pull your hands out really fast! It was all too much.
We requested that we be moved back to the first room which they did. They gave us an extension lead for the electrics and we stayed in that room for the rest of the holiday. The bed in room 1 is huge and the suite has 2 double beds so take your pick.
A few other issues was that we were there for the easter holidays and the hotel had no staff in the evenings to provide meals, though we did get breakfast. They do offer a cooked breakfast but no one told us until we'd been there for about 10 days! The cooked breakfast was very nice and had quite a few after that. But we still had the problem with the continental breakfast. The blurb on the internet says continental with fresh fruit - all we ever got was some old bananas and once there was mangoes. We stayed in this hotel for 3 weeks but I suspect there may be better hotels around. Although I wouldn't slag off this hotel completely, I don't think we will be staying there again but it is very convenient if you want to stay slap bang in the middle of Roseau. However, if we couldn't find somewhere else we would probably stay here again.
However, the staff were very good, especially the cleaning staff who were really friendly and deserved the large tip we gave them. The rooms are really large with lots of space. The shower in both rooms were really good and had hot and cold water. There are lots of shops in the area and there is an ATM right across the road. The air con in room 1 was excellent and the ceiling fan worked and the air con is right over the bed so you get the breeze right on you. Breakfast needs to improve - they need to get more generous. We can make our own toast but it seems they feel the need to make it for you (especially as they use a normal toaster!). I don't know why they can't just put some butter and jam on the table and just let people help themselves (it's rationed and you have to keep asking for more!).
