Detailed Reviews
I am a little conflicted about what to say regarding this hotel, because on the one hand, the owner Patsy and her staff are wonderful people who made every effort to make us feel welcome and well-taken care of while in the Roseau Valley. The room and bathroom were well-cleaned every day and we never lacked for fresh towels. The location is perfect -- far enough from the city center to avoid the noise and heat of Roseau, but close enough to drive to town for breakfast or dinner.
On the other hand, the hotel itself was disappointing, considering the price. We had reserved a balcony room on the second floor. When I made the reservation, Patsy told me there was no AC, but that the fans in the room and mountain breezes generally kept the temperature tolerable and the bugs in control. When we arrived, the fan in the room was broken and had been replaced with a tiny cheap floor unit that would obviously not help much. We opted to switch to a first floor room with a working fan -- but because we were on ground level we did not feel comfortable leaving the windows or balcony doors open at night, leaving the room uncomfortably hot. We were charged more for our troubles, as the room included an oven (which we never needed), minifridge, and a few utensils, making it a "suite".
In addition, it was clear no one had made a major investment in the hotel for a couple decades. The furniture and appliances were rotting away. The mattresses were old and discolored, and the sheets barely fit, meaning you'd wake up lying directly on the mattress, wondering what you're lying in. This is nothing I haven't experienced in hundreds of cheap hotels throughout LatAm and the Caribbean, but the pricing at this place isn't cheap, and I'd expect more for what I paid.
Finally, the hotel will serve you meals on request. The food is simple but good, but it's way overpriced. Unless you really need to stay in the hotel for some reason, you're better off driving to Roseau for your meals.

This was my first trip to Dominica and I’d hoped to stay where I could experience urban and non-urban parts of the island. Staying at Roseau Valley Hotel, located 2 miles from Roseau, turned out to be a good choice. My walks into town or to Wotten Waven and Trafalgar Falls were punctuated with interesting interactions with friendly Dominicans. Local buses (vans) travel this route all day long if you would prefer not to walk, but I found the walks very insightful and fun. The hotel is situated on a sharp corner so drivers often honk to let opposing traffic know they are there - though this was irritating at first I found it soon became tuned-out background noise. My room was clean, large, had a comfortable bed, cold + hot running water, a very effective floor fan and a TV (with lots of channel choices). Some elements of the décor were looking tired but I liked the space. My room’s balcony provided a beautiful view, great air flow, and a place to take in the sights and sounds of daily living on the Island. On reflection, I should have opted to use mosquito netting at night as my wide open windows welcomed in some mosquitoes. The hotel was spacious with lots of common areas to read or watch TV, to visit with other guests or just watch the world go by. Most of my interactions were with Patsy (the owner) and Kaya. The hotel staff were going through a transition during my visit - as they adjusted to changes caused by the death of Patsy’s husband (and co-owner) - just the month before. Even with this, Patsy and Kaya were welcoming, helpful (with information about sites to see and transportation) and attentive to my needs. Patsy and I had some great talks about politics and life in general. I enjoyed my stay and would consider staying here again on a future trip to Dominica.

Sonya gave me a warm welcome. Felt like I was visitig an aunt who was happy to get a visit from me. She was very helpful in suggesting things to do, how to get around and in finding me a guide. We had long and interesting talks on life in Dominica, politics, health and all kind of other things. And she even brought me with her to mas in her church.
If you want to have your meals in the hotel let Sonya know in advance and she will serve you at the time you wish. There isn't a fixed menu. What is fresh for the day she will cook and she cooks meals not modified to please an european but the way she cooks for herself. Great way of tasting the local cuisine.
I had a room with a kitchenette. Sonya supplied me with what I needed of pots, plates and so forth.
I had a private bathroom across from my room.
My room had a balcony with sun and the there is a shaded shared balcony as well.
The hotel needs a bit of fixing up but they already have great plans of this.
There is a road running by the hotel. Was a bit noisy but I put in earplugs and slept till dawn.
It is easy to flag down a ride or a bus. If you are by car there is a parking lot connected to the hotel.
The hotel is located not far from Roseau and to different hikes, waterfalls and sulphur springs.
Sonya connected me with Ken, and he was my guide and we did lots of things what locals do. I had a great time with him. He took me everywhere I wanted to go and presented me to things I hadn't expected to do as well as attend live calypso at Harlem Plaza.
Let him take you to the small rasta eating place. Exellent cheap food.
I loved it there and felt at home.
Enjoy!

We had trouble online finding a car to rent in Roseau in February during Carnaval but stumbled upon upon Valley Rentals. They were helpful, punctual, and great to deal with. Manager Merle got back to us, found a car we wanted, arranged to have us picked up at the ferry dock and got us under way in no time. I'd highly recommend.

If you’re like me and you rely heavily on the Internet to find somewhere to stay during your trips, please do not be fooled by the pictures and information provided on the Roseau Valley Hotel website if you plan to visit Dominica. I just returned from Dominica with a friend, and to say that the website offers a skewed view of this facility would be a gross understatement.
My friend and I reserved a supposedly self-contatined studio for 2-4 people. What we found was a room with severely limited kitchen facilities and neither phone nor TV as promised on the website. The website was obviously designed with great lengths to exaggerate the size of the “Hotel” rooms and its location. Contrary to the impression conveyed on the website, the “Hotel” is located right next to a heavily-used mountain road, and hence takes in all of the street noises even at late hours of the night.
We would have been less annoyed by this had the kitchen facilities not been so glaringly lacking; while finding a room with a fully-stocked kitchenette was a priority for us, we were greeted with a 4-top stove and dishwasher combo, 1 miniscule kitchen sink and a mini-fridge. We were provided with next to nothing in terms of kitchen utensils.
On top of this, the owner, Patsy, managed to tack on some extra charges to the rates that she’d quoted us previously, even though in her email reply to my initial enquiry she gives me a figure that was the “all-in cost”. Additionally, we were forced to use the laundry service while at the “Hotel” and somehow Patsy construed a pr of pants, 2 shirts, 1 pr of socks and 1 undergarment to be a load of clothes; she also charged us extra for ironing, which we hadn’t asked for.
To be fair, apart from the street noises, the “Hotel” is in a nice enough area – relatively close to town without being in the centre, in a valley that maximises the coolness of the mountain air and the shimmering sounds of the vegetation by night. That said, I maintain that this “Hotel” is highly overpriced and that you can do better in terms of value for money in Dominica.

Sitting up in bed each morning we look through the french doors on our balcany onto a picture perfect view, the orchids and the tropical valley below. Even when it rains in the valley the sun still shines and a nice breeze fills the air. When we pull ourselves from bed the owners are waiting there to serve us breakfast or help us plan our daily itinerary. The food is amazing. It's like spa food with taste (all healthy with a wonderful carribean spice). Further, if you want something else, they'll make it for you. The activities/hiking in the area (the mountains) can be pretty intense (you need your boots & some mosquito spray), but the 2 mile walk into town is nice. A perfect location if you want both the water and the mountain access. The hotel is a little rough around the edges... no swimming pool, air conditioning, or screens in the windows (which is normal), but the valley breeze seriously keeps the place cool most of the day and there are plenty of places to go for a swim in nature. Roseau Valley Hotel was the perfect location for our adventure into Dominica.

I hate negative reviews and I have some sympathy for the owner as she seemed like a nice person but this is without doubt the worst hotel I have ever stayed in (and I travel regularly).
Our bathroom had an inch of water in it our entire stay. There was no hot water. The ceiling fan didn't work. The beds were terrible and the pillows and sheets appeared to be from the last century. Since arriving home we have also noticed a lot of holes in our clothes (there were worm like creatures in the bathroom and living areas).
Despite saying so on the booking website, there was no TV and the Internet was patchy at best.
We left a day early.

I was fortunate to get a room here during the Creole Music Festival at a reasonable cost. The room was without AC and with a shared bathroom; anyway I did not intend to spend much time there. Friendly service was given by the receptionist Kaya, and the location in peaceful surroundings was supplemented by excellent bus connections to noisy Roseau.

Very cozy guest house and the owner is the lady with hospitality & high performance of the traditional cuisine. The hotel stays at the perfect spot near the city center of Roseau, the famous Screw Spa, and also the Dominica Club. I can recommend you the good performance of the price, too.

We arrived at our destination and were so dismayed to see workers on the road in front rebuilding the road...which actually is wonderful for the people of the island...but not what you want going on while you stay.
With a lot of work and initiative this place could have been so much more...but it was dark so dirty. The room was not clean. The toilet was broken and there was no hot water... the beds were made with mismatching 250 count sheets...and the pillows were terrible...lumpy and smelled of mildew and so did the matteresss. .
We took a few minutes to regroup and left...after calling a taxi which took 20 minutes because of all the construction going on...
We are sorry that they are in such disrepair...but we just suffered a hurricane too and we are looking for a peaceful, private lovely vacation...not surrounded by noise and confusion.
