We just returned from Dominica and a 3 night stay at Roxy's. Roxy's is located in the mountains of Dominica and has great views. My husband and I are avid hikers and Roxy's is the perfect location to do the main hikes in Dominica such as Boiling Lake, Middleham Falls, etc...Our room was small and somewhat stark, but it was clean and had plenty of hot water. For the price, it met our needs. The honeymoon suite is bigger with excellent views. The service at Roxy's was excellent! Everyone was so helpful and the food was good. We would definitely stay there again.

This family run B&B is ideally located for local walks and the trek to boiling lake.
The rooms are variable, some of them in need of lot of attention, others were well presented. The beds were quite small in the double rooms.

Some of the staff, particularly Maria, were very friendly and helpful. All the kitchen staff were keen to help. One morning someone was noisily clearing away the plates at 4:30am!
Freddie runs a taxi company, but at times did not seem to be customer focussed. Promises were made that he couldn't keep, by agreeing to take some of the group out at 2pm, however did not arrive until after 3.15pm, taking others on a "day" trip!

The food prepared by Maria and her colleagues was tasty and varied. Sandwiches are available at lunchtime, slightly different take on an egg sandwich (cold fried egg in the sandwich) or cheese sandwich (melted cheese on bread with salad) seems to work really well. Unfortunately they ran out of Tuna the day before, which was not replaced in time for the next lunch.

B&B is in the village, in a very quiet location with very pleasant garden and communal dining area and veranda /seating area. There are friendly dogs around outside, and a pleasant garden/veranda area for sitting after relaxing after a long days walking.

It is very quiet when we arrived at Roxy's on the bus (go to Valley Road in Roseau and ask for Reds – he is the owner/driver). We find the owner asleep in front of the television in the lounge. Gently we wake him and get our key.

Room 15 is a lovely corner double en suite room on the first floor with a balcony. There is an air of unfinishedness about the whole place and the staff seem, at least initially, disinterested. Roxy's is very well positioned for walking in the park, so its eccentricities are accepted.

Before dinner, we manage to get a look at the TV. The owner “lives” on the only sofa in front of the TV, so we have to spot when he is briefly away and move in. As soon as we are called through to dine, he moves back in for the evening.

Dinner is chicken with rice, a salad, curried beans, yam, sweet potato and plantain. With pumpkin soup to start and ice cream sweet, it is ample. Water is served with the meal – we are not offered anything else. We ask for tea after the meal but the chef/waitress cannot find any. Strange, as they had made us a pot earlier. We provide our own tea bags and all is well. The next day the meal is very similar, except we have fish instead of chicken. Again adequate but at US$25 a head, these meals are very poor value.

Breakfast (the man is still in front of the TV when we come down) is water melon, bread, butter and jam. Sorril juice, pink and sweet but quiet pleasant, and tea – they must have found the tea bags again – too. Just about adequate. The next day it is the same except for excellent freshly squeezed grapefruit juice replacing the sorril juice. I have to add that at nearly US$10 a head, this is again poor value.

We ask about walking – there is no information in the hotel and nothing we can find elsewhere. They gently try to sell us a guide but when we make it clear we are not interested, they happily explain where the walks to Middleton Falls and Freshwater Lake are and how to do them. Their instructions prove useful and accurate, as were their time estimates. There is a useful map, which shows the whole park, part way along the Middleton Falls walk. The walking is excellent.

When we get back from walking, the man is still in front of the TV – watching a Thai cookery program. He does make us a pot of tea when asked and is quiet friendly. We think he is just bored, we do seem to be the only guests again tonight.

I find it hard to rate Roxy's. We quiet liked the place, the food was adequate but the staff are disinterested and the meal costs are very high. But it is the only accommodation in the park and there is nothing wrong with the place – it is a tough call.

If you want to do the famous Boiling Lake hike or go see the Boeri Lake, Freshwater Lake and Middleham Falls - stay at Roxy’s Mountain Lodge in the village of Laudat. This unique and charming lodge is a MUST since it gives you an idea of how things probably should be - and used to be. Just try and you will see ... what I mean. My husband and I stayed for 5 days and enjoyed it very much: Large clean room, bathroom with hot shower (in the afternoon), large clean kitchen (there is no shop in Laudat, so if you want to cook, please make sure to bring whatever you think you need), Manou and his loving care, stunning location in the mountains (there is simply no accommodation like Roxy’s and no place closer to the main trailheads nowhere on the island). Roxy's owner Manou is a truly nice person and the best cook ever: Soup, main course, and ice cream for dinner, packed lunches for our hikes, and a special crab/crayfish meal on Valentine’s day! (Breakfast is available also but we prepared our own.) We would like to highly recommend Roxy’s Mountain Lodge! And if in Laudat, please do not forget to look for “Middle East” and drop by Tuksy’s Bar for a Kubuli!

I visited Roxy's last year by accident. Got to Canefield airport and asked the nice lady at visitor information where to stay. Roxy's was a godsend. What a great, relaxed vibe. It's kinda quirky and offbeat but in a good way. The food was great, staff very friendly and helpful and it is located close to all the best walks - Boiling Lake, Boeri Lake, Trafalgar Falls.
Price-wise I can't really recall but seemed pretty reasonable for the standard of service. Put it this way, I'm going back this year!

I can't say enough good things about Roxy's. The staff was amazing, the food: excellent, the service was impeccable. While there, another guest went to the beach and got REALLY drunk - to the point he lost his wallet, keys, etc... he called Roxy and in the middle of the night, the owner went to the beach in Roseau and picked him up. I felt so bad for him (the owner), but he now has a VERY loyal guest. Anyone who would do that gets my business again.

The bugs were swarming at night. Bring your own netting! But you have to understand that it IS in a rain forest. It's kind of famous for nighttime crawlies. Even this was fascinating. The bugs really were not to be believed. I even saw what looked like a rhino beetle (which I've heard taste great)!

The shower thing: OK, there are huge, black cisterns that capture heat from the sun to warm the water. DON'T shower in the morning. The water was ice cold and the sounds I made were akin to a crack-addled silverback mountain gorilla. My wife told me the other guests were laughing like hell at the "WOOOOO"s and "AIE AIE AIE"s that were coming out of me. Shower in the early evening when the water has been in the sunlight all day. PLEASE!

No one can complain about the food or the service. My wife and I were on our way out for a hike and she asked one of the wait staff where we could pick up some fruit for our trip. She ran out the door, up the road and went to her house where she picked some oranges and bananas for us. It took her about 10 minutes, no charge, and big smiles all around.

The lodge hooked us up with a great guide to the Boiling Lake trail and the Valley of Desolation! TOTALLY EPIC HIKE!

Outside of honeymooning in Bora Bora (and climbing the extinct volcano there) this was the best place I've ever stayed! I will definitely return (after the kids go to college).

I spent two nights here as part of a tour of the island. It is plain and simple, rooms are quite dark. Evening meals are cooked here, there is nowhere else near to eat, they are quite good but expensive for what you get.

It is very much up in the hills, so if you are not mad keen on hiking there's not a lot else to do. It looks slightly dilapidated, lovely garden is a bit neglected and some poor stray dogs (very friendly) hang around but don't live here.

Staff are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed being here but was glad to move to other parts of the island.

Stayed at Roxy's for four nights. Good place, clean rooms, attractive balcony. Excellent location for hikes (that said, there is nothing else to do around there).

Only real compliant was the price of breakfast - 25EC *per person* for some fruit, bread, jam, and egg. Dinner was a lot more reasonable.
