Having a local tour guide clearly defined the difference of truly experiencing the Island. Pepper is an experienced, knowledgeable guide who always arrives with a friendly greeting and a warm smile. He is there to accommodate individual tastes. Want to eat somewhere local? No problem. Maybe your prefer something a bit fancier, you can do that too. If your into live music Pepper knows the spots. Maybe you prefer to have a nice picnic on a secluded beach, Pepper can take you there. When staying at Pepper’s it is truly all about you!
The cottage is simple, but practical. You have everything you need and more! The pool is a nice added touch as you can cool off and relax while lounging around the cottage. The cottage is equipped with Air Con although I found the fan adequate at night. I preferred open windows as you can listen to the waves of the Caribbean at night. I found the location of the cottage to be perfect. While central, it was peaceful and you are only minutes away from shopping, restaurants, and the local market, which sells a variety of fresh fruit and vegetables and some of the most beautiful flowers around. The cottage is also very private and very safe. Pepper’s Cottage is not only ideal for couples, but for those who are travelling alone as well.
Please feel free to email me if you have any questions.

Having made contact through the internet, "Peppers" as he is affectionately known, was our helpful guide and advisor before we even got to the island. He made arrangements for a rental and alternative accomodation as his cottage was already booked for part of the period we would have been on the island.
He was our tour guide and an excellent one at that. We were able to visit every parish on the island and visit at least two places of interest everyday. Along the way, various spots were pointed out with a little history of the place. He knows his stuff and is obviously very proud to 'show off' his country to visitors.
A few of the places of interest where we went were, Fresh Water Lake, Fort Shirley, the Carib Reserve, Emerald Pool and the Sulpher Springs where we had the hottest bath ever. We did not get to visit/hike to Boiling Lake but I guess we will have to go back for that !
I could go on and on, but to get away and relax Dominica is the place and for the best tour guide 'Peppers' is the one !

The marriage was organized expertly and Pepper knew everyone to contact without delay. If you plan to get married in Dominica, do not try and do so without Pepper's invaluable assistance. We heard about another couple, who were not using Pepper, and arrived in Dominica intending to get married but failed to do so because they couldn't complete the necessary procedures. Not that the procedures are difficult - it's just that you need to know what is required and follow Pepper's advice.
From the moment we arrived at Melville Hall, the main airport, Pepper's help was invaluable. The local airline, LIAT, lost our luggage on the way in from Antigua, and without Pepper's knowledge we could have been without our bags for days. But Pepper dealt with the airline and drove back and forth across the island twice in one day to retrieve them.
We spent our first week up in the hills above Roseau near Trafalgar at Ma Honychurch's place and during that time Pepper took us on guided tours to Trafalgar Falls, the Soufriere hot springs in the south of the island, and sorted out the arrangements for the wedding, which involved visits to Government House and the Registry. Provided that you ask Pepper, everything will run smoothly - just pay attention to his advice and you will be fine!
It is possible to get married just about anywhere on the island - a beach, a waterfall, up a mountain, etc., - but we, being not so young as we used to be, opted for the Botanical Gardens in Roseau which are very beautiful. Please see attached pic.
We stayed at Pepper's Cottage in Roseau for a week. It was very comfortable, and we enjoyed bathing in the plunge pool in the mornings. The cottage is not huge but has everything you need - fridge, cooker, TV, broadband, shower, aircon, etc. The aircon is very effective and on a hot day you really need it! If you are up in the hills aircon is not necessary but you definitely need it at sea level!
Within a minute walking you can get to a supermarket, a small restaurant, a laundry, a hairdresser, and if you need banks, western-style restaurants, access to Government offices, classy hotels, internet cafés, these are all about 10 minutes walk away in the centre of town.
Dominica is without doubt one of the most beautiful and safe places on Earth. The scenery is magnificent, with mountains rising to 4,700 feet plus, hundreds of rivers, many waterfalls, the boiling lake, magnificent scuba diving, whale watching, (we didn't cover all these things in our three week stay but are on our way back in a couple of weeks as we can't get enough of the place).
Also, the people are very friendly and you can't walk down the road without people greeting you with a "Good Day" or "How are you doing?".
Pepper's personality and enthusiasm is infectious - although my new wife and my average age is around 50 he greeted us every morning with a cheery "hello teenagers"!
Pepper will go to any length to help his guests. At one point I wanted to get a rare recording by one of Dominica's finest bands, the Swinging Stars, and when we couldn't find it in a local music shop, Pepper managed to source it from the local TV station!
In Dominica, nothing is impossible for Pepper to arrange. His energy is boundless. I have traveled all over the world and can safely say that no one has ever been more of a pleasure to deal with. Without Pepper, I am sure that our trip would not have been nearly as pleasurable and trouble-free as it was.
Thank you Pepper, and your lovely wife Natasha, and beautiful little boy, Junior.
We'll be going back very soon and hope to meet up with you again.
With Pepper as our guide and driver it really made a difference. He brought us to places we did not read about and we could enjoy the views from the car without the hassel of driving on the narrow roads ourselves.
The room is small but has everything you need.
Dominca is beautiful and the people are friendly and very proud of their country.
The island - We spent four days on the island. It was our first time there and Pepper kept us busy from day 1 until day 4. We were truly overwhelmed with its natural beauty. Dominica has water, water everywhere (both hot and cold) and you can actually equate that to the many waterfalls throughout the island. The waterfalls are splendid, the mountain peaks with clouds as caps are truly different and the people are very open and friendly. On day 2, we went to the Middleham Falls. The hike was long, (since we were not accustom to hiking regularly ) but the end result was a sight to behold. N.B the water is very cold if you are going to swim there.
The host - the slogan on his web site is "Remember, it is all about YOU, @ Pepper's ". Well, that's 100% true. He makes you feel like family and all requests are filled. He has extensive knowledge of the island and tour prices are very affordable. You'll never have a dull moment with him, since he's always jolly and he always finds ways to make you forget your troubles. He even got up at 4.00am to take us to see the parrots at the Syndicate Parrot Reserve.
The cottage - it's very cozy and intimate for a couple (that's the one we were in). All the amenities are at your finger tips and just beyond the pool is the sea side. We enjoyed the morning ambiance of the rising sun and the breaking of the waves on the seashore, as we ate our breakfast at the table, on the veranda in the open air .
Dominica is just WOWWW!!!!!.....
The cottage was conveniently place right next to a supermarket so we didnt have to go far to buy groceries, also if we wanted to go out to eat Pepper would always be willing to take us and bring us back.
I hired a vehicle whilst I was there which Pepper kindly organised and there was one day I wasnt sure how to get somewhere on the island and Pepper didnt give us direction he just took us there without hesitation.
Keep up the good work and I most definately will be back.
The ride from the airport to Roseau is quite scary, even though Pepper seems to know what he's doing. He was there on time and was very accomodating and explanatory of the island and things to do. The cottage was simple but clean, no luxuries, just the bed and a shower and a stove. It's nice to have the porch and the little plunge pool, and it's actually nicer outside than inside, where there is a strong smell of naftaline.
The problem with Roseau is that there is not much to do other than going to the national park and hiking. Walking around at night can be a bit scary, there is not a lot of light or people on the streets. We tried to go into town to find a local restaurant and always ended up in the only existing hotel having pizza, and not because we didn't try. The island is beautiful in terms of landscape, and the hikes in the National Park are intense and in the middle of the rainforest, even though the paths could use some updating. But transportation is an issue, since there is not really a reliable system of public transport. Pepper can drive you around or do tours of the island and so can any other locals you approach. We ended up hiring one of the forest guards on his day off and he was very cool. Pepper is definitely eager to please but can be a bit overwhelming -set some boundaries and you'll be fine, he knows his way around and can be a great fixer in Roseau and surroundings.

We flew into Melville Hall and weren't really sure what to expect. We had rented a car and were promptly greeted by the friendly folks at Roadrunner with our 4wd Jeep. At that time of the day, school had just let out, so there were kids and buses everywhere. Needless to say, by the time we got to Pepper's we were tired and stressed out from the right-hand driving and narrow roads. Pepper greeted us kindly and stayed out of our way for the first couple days while we caught up on sleep and did some scuba diving. He recommended some great restaurants the first couple days and we didn't do any cooking in the room.
However, when we expressed interest in going to Boiling Lake and doing some other hikes, Pepper immediately went into host mode! Talk about customer service! Even though he had hiked Boiling Lake two days before with the guests in the adjacent room, Pepper did not mind going again. He said that it is difficult to combine people who have different hiking abilities and don't know each other for something grueling like Boiling Lake. The hike was beautiful and his optimistic and supportive attitude made a very long hard hike seem much shorter! When we got back he woke us up for dinner and surprised us with some local cuisine and sightseeing.
The second day of touring, Pepper took us to Victoria Falls, Middleham Falls and Trafalgar Falls all in one day. Not only did he take us on a few scenic drives around the southern part of the island, but we got a sneak preview of "Suite Pepper" a BEAUTIFUL guest house he is building outside Roseau overlooking the ocean. It will have 2 studio apartments for rent, with 10" walls between them for ultimate privacy. (Normal interior walls in Dominica only have to be 4" thick.) Suite Pepper should be done in July of 2007. The falls were amazing. There were things on these hikes that only a local could show you and that we would never have found in a guidebook. (I won't spoil it though!) I couldn't believe we did so much AND that Pepper was able to convince us that our legs weren't too sore to do all the hikes in one day!
Even when we left Roseau, Pepper had excellent advice for us. He told us about a delicious restaurant with an amazing view (like out of a Corona commercial!) and told us which beaches were the best and how to get to them and where to park. He even introduced us to the Park Ranger who would be working at Indian River when we were planning on heading up there!
More about the accommodations: We stayed in the larger of the two rooms. We had a queen size bed, a private bathroom, a full size fridge/freezer, stove, sink, pots and pans, blender, TV, VCR, movies, books, and a radio. Though the room was crowded with all these things in it, it really didn't matter. We had everything we needed and were able to cook dinner for the two of us 3 nights we were there. He even gets cable in there! Oh and the AC. Can't forget that! The room is small so it didn't take much to cool it down. Outside the room, there was a patio area with a table for eating and relaxing. It overlooked a small clean pool and a gate that lead out to a rocky beach. Next door was a grocery store. Very convenient! Pepper's was modest and charming and just what we needed. We were so happy we decided to stay there instead of at a hotel or a more resort-y type place.
More about Pepper: I'll say it again. Pepper made our vacation exceptional. He is so passionate about what he does. He went above and beyond to make our stay the most comfortable, interesting and memorable possible. He was all about the extra touches, which meant a lot to us. Pepper is knowledgable, funny, ambitious and has a good outlook on the world. Staying at his guest cottage, we really felt like we weren't just another couple passing through Dominica. He left us alone when we were interested in being lazy and catching up on sleep, and sprung into action when we were ready to go out and explore the island. He was truly a host with the most!
Dominica was beautiful and unspoiled. We will never forget our trip to this country, and Pepper has a lot to do with that!
