This is a nice hotel, which dies not pretend to be 5 star luxury. However, it has everything you want for a short stay in the Capital. It is very close to all the attractions in Zona Colonial, it has street parking outside. The owner was very relaxed and friendly on arrival, even though he is French ;-) The room I had was big and clean. I think he upgraded me, because they were not busy when I stayed. Breakfast was very good on the roof terrace. Of course there are better hotels around but you will not be disappointed with this one for the price. This hotel is good value all the way. I will go back.
We got a standard room which was kind of dark during the day and rather small. However it was very clean, quiet and in a good location with a small park right next door. Staff was friendly and helpful dealing with 1 small problem immediately. Included in the price was an excellent and substantial breakfast served on the lovely roof top
Despite some of the downsides, Casa Del Sol is excellent value for money when you look at the location vs price. It is right on the edge of the colonial area, bars, restaurants, shops etc within a few minutes walk. The breakfast was probably the best we've had in the Dominican! And served up on the roof terrace is a nice touch. Bed was comfortable, air conditioning worked well (sometimes hard to come across in Dominican!) There is also very little in the way of noise pollution (at least on the second floor), like you would get staying else where in Zona Colonial. The "delux" room is worth the extra $$ as it is specious and great having your own little balcony/veranda. So, despite some areas for improvement I would probably stay here again if only for a quiet night's sleep, the location and price. OK, so the first downside is that the hotel lacked any kind of proper reception area, which is what let the place down. There was no one around to ask questions, directions or to get a map/tourist info etc. There is an area there with a reception desk but it seems it's used for storage. There is never anyone sat behind it, no bell or anything. It would make the world of difference to tourists, like us, who turn up late at night in the dark not knowing where anything is or how to find even a shop to buy water, an ATM etc. Even just a stand with a bunch of maps and info would help! Although we found the hotel to be generally clean, we really think our room could have done with a proper deep clean. Marks on the walls. mirrors, dust building up right in the corners etc. My only other negative was the shower was pretty useless. The shower head doesn't fit into the bracket properly so you have to sort of stand there and hose yourself down! Temperature was also hot, cold, hot, cold for the duration of your shower. All in all a good stay and we enjoyed Santo Domingo!…
Casa del Sol is perfectly situated in colonial Santo Domingo. It's just a short walk to the cathedral and good restaurants. They have a nice rooftop where you can sit and where (the good) breakfast is served. They don't serve drinks and snacks on the rooftop. However, there is a small liquor store just opposite. We bought a few bottles of beer and some snacks and enjoyed the evening on the rooftop before going for dinner. We stayed at room no 1 which is on the ground floor and rather noisy. I guess it would be better to avoid the rooms on the side of the main street. The noise and the not working safe keep us from giving more than 3 stars. We stayed only 1 night and for us it was ok. Staff is friendly, location is perfect, the breakfast is good and the price is fair.
Located in Colonial Zone, not big but nice and clean rooms. Good breakfast. Do not have parking, but there are place to park around. 10 min walk to city center. Have TV with many US channels. Safe place.
