We got exactly what we wanted for our first post vaccines holiday. Casa Colonial is an Oasis in a guarded golf community of resorts and time shares. It stood out from all the rest, small 50 rooms and directly on a beautiful beach. It is an SLH property that acts and looks like one. The buildings are beautiful, the experience begins the moment you pull into their private drive and see something that strikes you as European and authentic, certainly nothing like all the surrounding properties. The main building is marbled and houses reception, the bar, restaurant, private dining and wine 'cellar'. From here you walk through lovely mature garden, flowers, tropical trees, a pond, to the residential building. This building contains their Spa and a fantastic rooftop pool with several hot (well, warm) tubs and a restaurant/bar. Rooms of course vary, we opted for an Oceanfront with balcony on the top/3rd floor. Very spacious room, very comfy bed, sofa and chairs, an expansive and up-to-date bathroom, with shower and tub. The balcony was large and indeed overlooked the ocean, though the view is largely blocked by trees. At first this seemed to be a bother but in fact added to the overall calming effect - especially at night when you can leave the doors open and hear the ocean and in the morning when the birds and ocean serenade you awake. No bugs at all. A highlight was sitting on the rooftop bar one night, all alone, watching the moon and sky!!! Priceless The staff were ALL excellent - from the valet to the reception to the restaurants to room maintenance to the pool and beach staff. I'd highlight some but don't want to forget any so I won't. English a bit challenging at times but they will go above and beyond to help. We felt extremely safe though the only time we left the property in our 5 days was when the valet took us in a golf cart to/from a nearby restaurant for dinner. Breakfast was included each day - it was a vacation so we had it each day about 10 then didn't eat again til dinner. The outdoor Veranda is beachfront for breakfast and lunch, closes at 5. The extensive menu always delivered - again terrific staff here. Unfortunately dinner is not served here Dinner is in the Lucia restaurant - a beautiful restaurant. However, we asked to eat just outside, adjacent to the gardens, after all we are from New Jersey and have been eating inside for months. The staff pleasantly set us up outside and it was grand. Again terrific staff at this restaurant. The food here was hit and miss though - they delivered well on the meat dishes but the fish disappointed. For our final night we had them set us up for dinner on the beach (a package option) which was fantastic - carved out a space on their beach with a table, torches and also a lounger for after dinner drinks. A Wow finish. Negatives: Beachfront restaurant closes for dinner so only option on the property is the fine dining Lucia (not that you have to get dressed up) Stick to beers and the fine wine list. Puerta Plata can be fairly windy - lots of watersports take advantage. One day was too strong so we headed for the pool which is protected. Wifi was mostly good with some drops - never turned the TV on! More Positives: The beach was spectacular. 18 hole Golf course is a 5 minute walk. In a sad way, we almost had the hotel and beach to ourselves. I walked east and west each day, maybe 4 miles total and saw maybe 8-10 people. Most everything is still closed including surrounding resorts and most restaurants. While having a spectacular, long sandy beach all to yourself is wonderful, it is sad to know so many people are out of work and not traveling. So come down - this place will treat you nice from the first to last minute.

We stayed at this amazing property for three nights and it was a wonderful experience! No, there is not much to do, but listening to the sounds of nature, soaking in the sunshine, walking miles of empty beaches and only sharing the beauty with only a few other lucky people was therapy of the best kind! The hotel itself is beautiful with a very inviting lobby, comfortable rooms, and a balcony which we loved. The staff was engaging and gracious thru out our stay, and very nice to our little 10 month old son. We ate on property all three days and had no negative experiences. Our highlights were the Mahi Mahi Tacos, the salmon, and the special Dominican dish they offered on Fridays. The area as a whole is still almost completely shut down due to Covid, for example, the nearby two story mall had only two stores open. But everyone we saw wore a mask and was conscientious. You are pretty much limited to the hotel for food and to the beach for entertainment, but for our three days we couldn't have asked for more! The only place I am going to knock them is the laundry service is pure extortion! $7 to wash a pair of mens shorts is crazy, as is $8 for a T shirt. There are no other options, so be prepared. We spent $60 to wash one day's worth of laundry- ridiculous! So in summary: It really is a special place to spend a few days. A week might be a little long due to the lack of options, but in today's world, this is an amazing opportunity to live a few dreamy days. Not cheap, but value for money, and worth every penny!

My wife and I just returned from a week long stay at Casa Colonial. We needed to spend time at a peaceful beachfront oasis in the sun after many months of long hours working in the medical field during the pandemic. Options were limited with lockdown and quarantine restrictions. What we found at Casa Colonial was just what we needed. The hotel was beautiful, clean, well-run, and quite comfortable. The beach was well maintained, private, and quiet. The spa was clean and services were very professional. Every meal was excellent in quality, variety, and freshness of ingredients. We did not have any food related issues despite eating almost all our meals at the hotel. The entire staff was particularly friendly and accommodating without being at all intrusive. As travel options hopefully increase over the coming months I’m sure that it will become much more difficult to book a room here, especially at the rates they are currently offering. The hotel is also relatively close to the international airport, which was very easy to navigate and even provided rapid Covid-19 testing on site before boarding our return flight.

First off I want to say , I have stayed here at least 4 or more times in the last few years and always enjoyed the Hotel and Day Resteraunt ( breakfeast/ lunch) very much and have recomended the hotel to many friends , The service and staff have always been top notch, and I am a world traveler. This trip I waited for many months for them to finally to open after covid hit. I booked a extra large ocean front suite spectactular!! My first night I ate at the only resteraunt ordered a lobster dish , ceasar salad and a nice appitizer , everything tasted good but the lopster was eighther over cooked or frozen it was a little tough. But not tasting bad. The Issue started 3-4 hours later i got extreamly ill with food poisen all night could not leave the room my whole full first day spent going to the bathroom I requested some help from front desk they sent me some hydrating fluids . But never called or followed thru to see if i was better. I had a terable sunday night , monday i requested help to go to the hospital. They said it was closed and recomended sending me in a taxi to a city 20 min away. I was so weak i needed help getting to the taxi. They sent me to a hospital in puerta plata where they determined food poisen and now a stomach infection i spent most of monday there with IVs and meds , and felt a little better. Went back to the hotel feeling better with all the meds. Finished my stay enjoyed the beach one day, and Breakfeast resteraunt alot! the managment never asked me how i was or followed thru with the resteraunt or me. When i went to check out they never removed the dinner bill? I questioned it ( more about the point not the money) The manager came to the desk waved her hand and walked away did not say a word to me ,not the service or profesionalism i expected at this top Botique hotel. A week later i am back in the hospital here in santiago the stomach infection never went away. Just a total night mear. Very disapointed , still sick. There should of been better QC in there food . I wish i never would of gone on this nightmear vacation!! The 3rd picture is my second hospital stay from this situation

Super fun hotel with beautiful rooms, wonderful food and a great staff. It was like hanging out at a billionaire's house when he was gone on vacation. There are other hotels nearby, but we felt wonderfully isolated, and there are so many nice touches that make this place shine that it would take pages to describe them all. My wife and I were looking for a special place for a big anniversary trip, and this hotel definitely matched up to the occasion.
