Just got back from this location. (9/28 to 10/5). The old saying "You get what you pay for" is so true. Yes I got a great deal for 8 days. But I will spend extra money next time.

The Cabanas at Cofresi Palm were the best part of the trip, that and horse back riding with John Wayne Movie Star.. The rooms were out dated, with two english speaking channels on the box tv. The shower was an issue as well as getting towels. We had to call everyday to have them give us wash cloths.

The cleaning staff were friendly, but the sales staff would not leave you alone. Buy into the club, buy a trip here, buy a massage, buy, buy, buy. It gets old quick.

Good luck trying to sleep. Between other guests walk the halls drunk and yelling, the numerous domestic arguments and the staff talking to each other or on their radios at 6am.

The Animation Team at Cofresi Palm were great and they made the trip worth it. Rambo, Coco Loco, Shaggy, Julio Nice, Speedy Gonzalez and Kitty.

The food was okay, I have no real complaints about it. It would be nice if they did not allow the locals in on weekends for a low rate. It caused the area to be crowded, and it was very annoying because they dont care that you are there on vacation. They come from surrounding towns and take over the complex.

Now don't take this survey the wrong way, I will go back, but you should at least be aware of some issues. Do your home work..

I wonderful place to stay! The rooms are nice and pools are wonderful. The buffets leave much to be desired. Definitely make your reservations at the restaurants. The food is much better! The cabanas at the pools and on the beach go early. You need to be out there to grab one by 7am. Driving in the DR is NOT advised, seriously this is not worth it.

Yes, the room was on par with an old Holiday Inn look and feel, but if you get past that the food, service, and events taking place made it a great vacation. The beach was not sandy white like Punta Cana, but the waves were fun and if you like a good swim it had plenty of room to roam about and get lost. Centrally located within the resort, it was an easy walk to almost any part within the resort - and its a big resort. I'd go back in a heartbeat....

The Tropical is a resort that is located within a huge resort mega-complex. This resort is in dire need of some drastic changes which should start with management. There are some very nice and acommodating people that work there and they do their best with what the ownership affords them. That said, Ms. Liz Ventura was very nice and got us checked in with a smile and did her best to address our concerns throughout our stay, not only for us but also our friends. The RCI concierge staff of Stephanie Rodrigues and Jonathan were also very helpful setting up dinner reservations and more during our stay.
The resort itself is in need of repair and updating. Fortunately we got a suite in the new section of the resort that had a nice ocean view on the third floor. Our friends were in another part of the resort and their room had black mold throughout starting with their entry door to their room and inside. They got sick with a respiratory problem which they believe was a reaction to the conditions in the room. We finally got the manager to send the facilities manager to inspect the room. Due to the circumstance our friends were immediately moved to a room in the newer building. The manager made them sign a NDA before they would agree to move them. UNREAL!
The food at the resort is quite mediocre and the 2 wines they offer at dinner are awful. Honestly, they shouldn't even offer them. There is a store by where our room was located and we had to buy our own wine for dinner because what they were serving was so bad. This is not what you expect when you are paying all inclusive fees already. There is also no premium liquor here at this resort. The best restaurant by far was the Blue Lagoon and our server Felix was great! The Casablanca buffet was okay but hovering outside like vultures to the entrance were the "brown shirts" who were constantly pestering you about buying a timeshare upon departing from the buffet. Last thing you want to encounter after a meal. This should not be happening. This interaction should happen at check-in where you can let them know if you are interested, wish to go on a presentation or not. Guests should not be subjected to this constant harassment after that time. I finally had to get very stern with them to leave us alone.
I will say they do go all out for their "Guest Night" presentation which is actually as infommercial extravaganza for their resort to get people to purchase property there. The outdoor food presentation was very good and so were the drinks and service. They actually served premium drinks there.
The most enjoyable thing we experienced at the resort was the Yin Yang Spa and our masseuses Justina and Florian who were wonderful. Highly recommend them.
There is no food or drink pool service at this resort. If you want service you have to go to the beach area prescribed for your resort. This resort has a caste system. You are allowed to go certain places and not other places depending on the type of wrist band you have. There is also a severe shortage of umbrellas and pool furniture and equipment in general. A health concern we had at this resort was that the mens restroom toilet was overflowing and the sewage water made its way to the pool bar area where children were playing in the sewage water. Disgusting! We told the parents when we saw what was happening as they did not realize where the water was originating from.
Outside the resort we did a wonderful snorkeling, city and tram tours which were purchased at the resort activities booth near the pool. I think we enjoyed our time outside the resort more than our time in it. The beach itself lacks general cleanliness and there was quite a bit of trash there. No excuse for that. The wifi which is suppose to be available to guests is a joke. Their wifi needs a major overhaul. I would not recommend this resort and as a worldwide traveler have to say it is one of the worst stays we have experienced. There are just simply to many great resorts out there to even consider this one. If you are thinking about visiting Puerto Plata I would alter course and go to Punta Cana instead. 12/17

Room was above and beyond great. Very spacious both room and bathroom. Plenty of space for clothes between closet and dresser. Facility provided drinks in refrigerator. Jacuzzi had great pressure. Just expect not to be able to flush paper down toilet. Some staff is friendly some not. If you can speak Spanish your in good shape.
