Not impressed with the service and standard of food in the buffet, we were right near the reception and the noise at night was far too load for what we was to believe a Adult only resort. The staff are very willing at times , in the outside restaurant for breakfast , they need better management in my opinion, too many walking around doing nothing and non English speaking. We enjoyed most of the other restaurants, especially the Indian ( excellent service ) and again in the Greek ,

We loved Luxury Ambar! The esthetic, spacious rooms, beach path, ocean, pool atmosphere etc. ALL STUNNING. We adored the coffee shop, it was so nice walking there every morning for a cappuccino. Limbo was delicious. Breakfast at the beach restaurant was SO good. The Pool service was our FAVORITE part of the trip. Desiree and Bianca are the BEST OF THE BEST. They made us feel very special. The drinks are strong and delicious! Stephanie from the entertainment staff was so sweet, kind, and fun! They all do a great job! Juan, our butler also made our stay very memorable! We will definitely be back here again!

Despite the covid situation and issues worldwide in hospitality, we felt the service at the hotel was to say the least irratic. Some days we were served promptly, other days we waited a long time for service (45 minutes for breakfast in the outside restaurant) and on occasion (in the buffet) were ignored altogether. It's a shame because most of the staff show willing, but there seems to be limited evidence of strong management leading the young team. To be a 5 star, this needs to happen. They need guidance and support. Another major issue is the language barrier. Many of the young staff don't speak any English and so making yourself understood can be a challenge, although they try hard. This often led to incorrect orders to the table and we felt sorry for the staff as they tried to put things right. The hotel itself is spotless, rooms very clean and gardens beautiful. There is nowhere to go for a quiet drink though. The main bar is where the evening entertainment is which is fine, but a quieter bar would have been nice for those wishing to chill out. The main pool area is also very loud with music and games regularly being played. We feel the hotel caters for younger couples rather than us oldies. This is fair enough and we were glad to see them having a good time, but not quite what Tui advertised or we expected.

It's worth putting this review in context - we paid around £125 per person per night for 14-days for a swim up room, all inclusive and including return flights to the UK and airport transfer in country. £125 per person per day for all transportation, accommodation and all food and drinks is incredible value - this is what this hotel is, it's a 'value' offer and if you are looking for a clean hotel without the frills then this will suit you perfectly. I was travelling with a group and therefore working to a group budget so although I wouldn't return to this hotel it does offer good value for money. Positives The staff are friendly and polite and generally attentive. Visitors should remember that the staff are also human beings and should treat them with respect. They will also have 'off days' and each person will have a different command of English, French and German. So many visitors are simply rude and treat the staff poorly. Swim up rooms. These are essential if you want a quiet space away from the main pool or the beach. Both of which I will comment on later. Value - If you are booking all inclusive you cannot complain about the value for money. Coffee shop- pleasant coffee and nice selection of afternoon cakes. Great for escaping the noise of the resort. Restaurants - some are better than others but this generally comes down to personal taste. It's a shame hotels like this feel they have to offer an "Italian or Greek' experience. I would have preferred a traditional Caribbean experience but again this is personal choice. Room for Improvement Noise - this is without doubt the noisiest hotel I have stayed at. From the JBL speakers across the resort playing chillout music to the constant drone of the pool bar speaker - there is noise at every turn. From 10-17:00 the entertainment team play games and music by the pool at an ear shattering volume but some visitors seem to enjoy this especially late afternoon when whooping and twerking at the swim up bar is the order of the day. At night the hotel entertainment is equally loud in the lobby bar so talking and enjoying a drink are almost impossible. Drink selection - limited selection of premium brand spirits and low alcohol beers/spirits on offer. It's a genuine surprise anyone can drink to the point of whooping and twerking as the drink quality is the poorest I have experienced in the Caribbean. Beach - sadly some visitors seem to think disposing of cigarette and cigar butts, plastic wrappers and used faced masks in the sand is acceptable. This was both really sad and something the hotel struggled to stay on top of. Plastic waste - Due to Covid the hotel provide guests with disposable plastic gloves. This might be a necessity but it only adds to the poor environmental credentials of the hotel. Every room is provided daily with plastic water bottles, plastic shampoo bottles, plastic shower gel bottles..you get the idea...plastic! Top tip Hotel services are inconsistent. This is a 5* because of the little used Spa facility but in reality is a solid 4*. The butler service provided in each block is excellent. In reality these are hotel staff assigned to a block to ensure the smooth running of the hotel. They can help with everything from laundry to arranging restaurant reservations. My fellow British guests are notoriously poor at tipping - sure this is an all inclusive resort but the staff rely on tips - tip the butler and your stay will be infinitely more pleasurable. Final remarks Did I have a terrible stay? No, I had an excellent stay and enjoyed my holiday. There is limited availability and the Dominican Republic offers a great break in the sunshine in January. Would I stay here again? No - this hotel isn't one for me but that doesn't mean it isn't for you. Take into consideration the price point and value proposition of this hotel and it might well be for you.
