Secrets Royal Beach Punta Cana garners praise for its enviable location near pristine beaches and its array of amenities, including diverse pools and dining options. While the service is often lauded for attentive staff, some guests have encountered minor inconsistencies. The resort's cleanliness and lively atmosphere are acknowledged, yet the noise level and sporadic housekeeping sometimes mar the experience. Concerns about value and aggressive upselling practices have also been noted, alongside dissatisfaction with room conditions that fall short of expectations for some visitors.

Prima hotel. We were there the last week of November 2024. It is very nice that as a guest of the Adult-Only hotel Secrets hotel you can use facilities of non Adult Only Dreams hotel
The other way around is not allowed, and especially around the swimming pools and in the buffet restaurants that is a world of difference.
We have visited several 5* all inc hotels (Egypt, Maldives and Mauritius) and found the food average here than in the previous hotels.
We liked that we did not see any other Dutch speaking guests during our week stay, apart from 1 young couple from Flanders
90% of the guests are American or Canadian. When they are groups of people , they are sometimes a bit loud , but absolutely not rude or rude .
Indeed, the Americans are constantly on hand with a $1 bill to tip off. However, once we did not give a tip we did not notice any difference how the staff treated us.
They also serve you on your beach bed, although it is often a bit longer to wait
You could also upgrade to Preferred on site for 1000USD per room. In both hotels you could use extra restaurants, extra swimming pools, extra areas on the beach with beach beds.
Because we couldn't find a beach bed the first day on arrival at the beach around 10.30am we considered this. However, at the Dreams hotel there appeared to be enough free cots available.
Probably people with children divert to the pools because the sea is less suitable for children in terms of waves and currents.
Towels that were laid before 8am will be removed according to hotel rules, but after 8am this will be allowed.
We did not upgrade to Preffered in the end. Both hotels do not work with wristbands so a dip in a Preffered pool is just possible. When using beach beds, the room number will check if you are Preferred.
There are plenty of quiet places to be found both at swimming pools or on the beach.
We walked a few times to other hotels via the beach. Then we noticed that only the part at our 2 hotels with a tractor with sieve the beach was cleaned properly. That makes a lot of difference if you want to walk into the water.
Only in the Japanese restaurant you can book for the baking tray show, but not for the other restaurants. You can always go directly to the buffet restaurant.
At the other restaurants you report and are then told how many tables are on the waiting list for you. If you want to wait for that you get a buzzer and take a seat in the bar and when it's your turn you walk that way.
If you want to increase your chances, you can possibly ask for a place on the waiting list at different restaurants and see where it is your turn first.
Dress code for men only applies at Bordeaux the French restaurant and is long pants and closed shoes and no sleeveless shirts, women can enter anywhere in shorts and flip-flops.
Both hotels lack a cozy beach bar that is also open after 6pm and where you can also have a drink in the evening.
You can then only go to the large indoor bar where there are also performances, the music is loud and you can tan at the huge video screens
All in all we are very satisfied with the hotel.

The staff made us feel very special, anticipating and fulfilling our every need. There were plenty of "free" food and drink provided with a smile. This was the friendliest and most helpful staff I have encountered in my 20 years of world travel. We were able to use US dollars, and all charges were made to the room, so that we absolutely had no need to carry money, except for (optional) tipping. Our room was fairly ordinary but clean. The fridge absolutely did not work, so I guess it was just a place to store the water, beer and punch provided daily. The soap, shampoo, conditioner and lotion were luxurious. The hotel practiced sustainability in the use of water (don't drink from the tap!) and linens. There were several pools and the grounds were gorgeously landscaped. Of course, when we checked in the desk clerk tried to upsell us to a "preferred" room and experience for $210 per person per night, but that was to be expected. On Thursday night there was a lovely buffet on the beach with delicious and plentiful food, beautifully decorated tables, live music, etc. I was amazed at the variety of food served throughout our stay of 5 days/4 night purchased through Costco travel.

Positives
- Arguably the prettiest hotel of Punta Cana
- The room we had (Preferred with ocean view) was great - everything you needed was there
- Mini fridge always stocked up
- Upon check-in, you will be asked if you want to upgrade to a Preferred room. They quote you $1,200 for a week, but if you have a good Spanish you can negotiate it down (we managed $900), which is basically cheaper than paying directly to the Preferred room when booking online (in total we paid £3,200 hotel + flights from London for 7 nights for two, plus the £700 hotel upgrade - this is definitely on the cheaper side for an all-inclusive luxury holiday on the other side of the Atlantic)
- The buffet is amazing
- We had great fun with excursions (although not booked with the hotel), we would highly recommend any ATV excursion in the jungle, it's great fun
- The pools are great, and the DJ generally plays good music in the day - we liked that it wasn't a "dead" hotel in the day, it's quite lively

Negatives
- The room was fairly clean but not super clean - we found stains on the sheets on our arrival - and you have to "harass" the reception to have cleaners come back clean your room (definitely a VERY slow process, even for slow standards)
- The a-la-carte restaurants are quite busy - we are late eaters so at 9pm there is space, but if you like to eat early be prepared to queue with all the Americans and Britons from 6pm sharp to 8:30pm - anyways not much is lost as it's very similar food from the buffet (only the French restaurant is really worth the wait in my opinion)
- The evening entertainment is lacking, as it's geared for an older American audience, so it's basically boring and completely out of touch with the local culture (this is by far the biggest "negative" of this hotel) - after the 2nd night we basically decided to go outside the hotel most evenings to properly experience the local culture in local clubs or bars (however would only recommend this for proficient Spanish speakers)

Secrets royal beach is an adults only resort which has the wow feeling right from when you get off your transfer you get handed a cold towel and some antibac hand gel. At reception checking in was good you were handed a glass of champagne whilst you were given enough information but not too much where you feel overwhelmed. Your also provided with a map of the resort. Good piece of advice which they will tell you is download the Hyatt app. They give you a QR code to access it. This app will give you all the information on the restaurants their openings times, dress code and it also keeps you up to date with activities and shows that are on in the day.
WiFi was good throughout the resort.
Dreams resort is next door, you can use all of there facilities, there is a corridor within the resort where you can get through to them. Dreams is a family resort.
Restaurants - 1 buffet for all meals. 5 alacarte for dinner. Grill on the beach. There were others for preferred club members (upgraded rooms, extra pool, additional breakfast and lunch restaurant, separate club lounge serving drinks and snacks)
Bars - lobby bar, plaza bar, sports bar. Night club, coffee shop, casino.
Pools - 1 big activity /noisy pool. Quiet pool. Private beach. You will get approached around the pools and beach for trips that you can pay for from the beach. Beach towels are included too. We never struggled to get a sunbed throughout the day. Activities - daytime activities were a really good variety, evening shows we're good these were done by outside companies.
All staff are super friendly, nothing is ever too much trouble. Tips are appreciated but not mandatory and service was not noticed to be different if you didn't / couldn't.
Rooms - they look tired, some things were in a bad state of repair, bed wasn't the comfiest but it was big. Pillows were the best either. We were told rooms would be cleaned every day and whilst ours was done we heard some weren't. We were told cleaning service would between 9 and 5. We were also told turndown would be every night between 7 and 9pm. We stayed for 1 week and only had turndown on one night. Chocolates were left on the turndown service which we put on the side for the following day but they were taken away the next day.
Gym - really good equipment, there are 3 separate rooms, cardio equipment in one, weight equipment room, yoga / stretching room.
The hotel has a spa, we didn't use it while we were there though. It was quite expensive.

This was our first vacation in the Dominican Republic and our expectations were exceeded.

In our opinion, the preferred option was worth it. Our concern was that it would not be monitored, but this was unfounded. Despite the high number of guests, care was taken everywhere to ensure that only those who had paid for preferred also got preferred (pool, beach, bars).

The room was always clean, our concierge "Eddy" visited us every day in a very subtle way (not annoying) and asked how we were feeling, whether the "room was okay" and fulfilled all of our requests, such as restaurant reservations.

The staff was ALWAYS friendly, courteous and helpful, so tipping was a given for us.

We would particularly like to highlight the people in the attached pictures, they made our stay more enjoyable and unforgettable.

- Marlon
- Poche
- Adonis
- Rosa
- Floamonta

The beach is very beautiful, depending on the waves, of course there can be more algae there, but they always take care to remove it immediately. We didn't like the permanent stay in the beach preferred area of people who want to "sell" you something, it gets annoying after a while.

Basically there were always enough options for a place on the beach or pool.

The food was fresh and delicious at all times and in all places.

Bianca & Stefan

Just returned from a fantastic 14 nights at this resort.
The accommodation, service and food are amazing and certainly lived up to our expectations.
We booked the standard junior suite with private pool, we were offered the chance to upgrade to the preferred club and were told that we would have to change rooms after two days as our room was booked out to someone else.
After been asked to arrange to move our luggage to the new room, I made it clear that it was the hotels job to do this and after repeating this a couple of times they eventually agreed, I am on holiday!
Upgraded mini bar, NO, choices of higher grade drinks at the exclusive bars, NO, exclusive canapés and nibbles, NOT A CHANCE!
We checked out the new room, identical to the last despite being promised upgraded mini bar and bathroom essentials, in fact the shower was worse. A phone call to maintenance and this was improved slightly.
The pool area is amazing and the lazy river cabanas are fantastic as is the quieter preferred club pool which is where we spent most of our time.
Very frustrating after paying the extra £2000 to constantly hear from people in the pool that they had not not paid but are benefiting from the extras as nobody is checking their eligibility!
In the first week we stayed the buffet was shut for six nights with no explanation, we soon got into the habit of checking into one of the a’lacarte restaurants that informed a wait tim3+of forty minutes, not a problem, time for a cocktail and the longest we had to wait was 30 minutes.
The food in the four available restaurants was amazing, the filler steak was the best ever.
The one night we fancied the buffet it was once again shut, the alternative recommended was the buffet at Dreams.
Let me tell you that Dream is a great resort but the food, service and atmosphere is some of the worst I have ever experienced in my entire life.
We walked around the buffet and left as it was nothing worse than a school canteen.
We chose+the Italian restaurant and after waiting 40 minutes and having to chase the staff on two occasions our order was taken an eventually the food arrived, the icing on the cake was when we were asked to keep our knives and forks fir the main course to save washing up!!!!
A few choice words were mentioned and we ait and left leaving our obvious comments.
Being not one to complain I went to the preferred club concierge and basically told them what we had just experienced, In return we were given a day in one one of the beach side cabanas with our own butler, food serves and constantly being looked after.
To wind up, a fantastic place to stay, does it live up to what it offers, NO, is the preferred club worth it, DEFINATELY NOT, and t(e nightly entertainment is nothing short of been the worse I have ever experienced, a video:screen wit( a a bunch of won screeming at the highest level think they sound good!

To start with, we spent a very long time at check-in this time even though there weren't that many people in front of us, but okay. Apparently our room was not ready upon arrival, strange, even though we arrived there at the end of the afternoon. What we noticed this time compared to the first time is that the dragonflies around the pool are completely sagging, really not okay for a 5 star resort, if you want to take a hernia home with you you have to lie by the pool... there there are far too few beds and only a few parasols.. set the alarm every day at 7:10 am because otherwise you will not have a desired lounger at the pool or beach because people already put towels everywhere at 6:00 am.. several arguments about that. experienced this stay. Especially in the quiet zone/swimming pool, the tent beds are already reserved at 07:00. In the buffet restaurant, all the benches that are against the walls are completely worn out and if you sit there you are sitting up to your shoulders at the table, which is very annoying.. bar staff only really make an effort if you tip well, but that is not the case. terribly. Then the alcohol in the cocktails on the beach/pool; watery cocktails with little alcohol, like slush puppies. Do yourself a favor and go to the bar in the Plaza or reception or get a drink at the Dreams, they are normal there. What kept us coming back is J.Frozonno and his colleagues from animation, really great! Furthermore, the shows are mainly based on older American audiences, which really doesn't matter. The music in the nightclub is really the same every day with songs from 15 years ago, but nice for an evening. Game room is fun to do or play ping pong at Dreams if you like games. We found the rooms disappointing; broken hairdryer, broken toilet roll holder, under the bed very dirty, half of the TV channels don't work. No iron, outside light defective. The food is very extensive, especially if you compare with Dreams, but a bit monotonous. The restaurants are not special either, they are all a bit the same. What we do like; The outside is carefully cleaned up, the housekeeping ladies come to your room twice a day for new towels if necessary. Furthermore, I think the toilets at the buffet restaurants are very outdated, locks do not work in 3/4 toilets. Preferred is being advertised everywhere, which actually doesn't mean much, but it is irritating that you pay €4,200 for a week and are then a 'normal' read: least guest, as if you are there for next to nothing... if you are not Preferred then you are not that interesting to the hotel and the staff. Looking purely at the hotel, I wouldn't go here again anytime soon, but I would recommend the adult-only concept and the entertainment.

We did not have preferred and have no regrets about it. It would be nice to be able to go to Olio for breakfast and lunch but other than that we felt we missed out on nothing so definitely not worth the extra money. We did not feel we had any lesser drinks or service.

The rooms are nice and clean, the only thing I would mention is a lack of plug ins, so if you have a few devices to plug in every night you are really scrambling to find places for them. Bring a power bank type device and this will fix this only issue. The fridges are well stocked everyday and rooms contained everything we felt we needed. Some people talk about the resort needing maintenance, we have been to many all inclusive resorts and it was just a few minor wear and tear ding and dents that happen over time and they are working on things the best they can. Overall the rooms feel modern and well done.

I saw so many complaints about the pool chairs. We spent 8 days there and never went without a chair even if we got there in later morning or afternoon. Relax, it might not be the chair you dreamed of but someone is always leaving and you can definitely get a chair. Some days there was lots of empty chairs all day and other days you got what was opening up but it was nothing to stress over.

We loved the fact that there were no reservations for restaurants. We enjoy having a flexible schedule. Almost every night we could walk into any restaurant we wanted at any time with no wait. On a couple of the busier nights at the resort we were told it was a 45 minute wait, no problem, take the buzzer and grab a drink or go for a walk. Turns out it was never more than 20 minutes or so.

The beach is absolutely beautiful, no seaweed and clear water. Sure there is some beach vendors but this happens in every country so just politely say no if you aren’t interested and they will carry on.

The staff was what made the resort. They call you family and truly mean it. They want to know your name and greet you anytime they see you and have your favorite drink ready. The guys that work at the Showtime bar at night are absolutely amazing, Omar, Miguel and the crew deserve a huge mention for how fantastic they were. Melvin at the main pool bar is also so much fun and never forgot us. Joan at Olio dinner also deserves a mention for his attention to making our meal fantastic. So many other staff to mention but most of them truly seemed to love talking to the guests.

I would return and recommend it just to see our “family” again

Room - Stayed in a junior swim up suite.
The bathrooms have 1 sink (might be important to some), limited counter space. Water pressure is good. Upon arrival, there was an odd mildew smell in the rooms that thankfully airs out with the balcony door open. AC worked. 1 knob for towels. A really old fridge. Furniture in the room is dated. Blowdryer is horrible, a Conair from 2010. if you have thick long hair - bring your own. Overall, the rooms can definitely be better and leave much to be desired.

Beach - the beach itself is nice, the sand is white and soft, sargassum isn't bad as it is cleaned off the shore daily. What's really off-putting is the boats and catamarans that constantly go back and forth and the smell of gasoline is atrocious and ruins everything - for this reason alone, I will not be coming back. Also the same 4-8 people keep walking around trying to sell you trinkets and things, multiple times a day. So every hour expect someone to come up to you. I respect the hustle but this is also extremely annoying.
Food - the main buffet is great for breakfast and lunch. The buffet selection doesn't change, but there's enough variety to satisfy the palate. What is very annoying is that the main buffet is closed for dinner, and you have to go to one of the restaurants for food, and restaurants are far worse than the buffet. The grill is the most decent restaurant they have on the property, it usually has the most people. Desserts in all the restaurants are inedible, which is odd because dessert in the main buffet during lunch is great.
Service - everyone is nice, always says hello. To add to this, most are nice until you need something. Staff at the main buffet are the best, cordial, extremely accommodating. Pool bar staff tolerate you, I always felt like I was bothering them, it was never a great experience, I dreaded asking for drinks. Expect to tip everyone and everywhere. Service at restaurants was probably the worst, sometimes you don't get what you asked for, or they bring you the wrong thing. Part of it is language barrier, part of it is staff are overworked. Please open the main buffet for dinner and stop torturing your staff, thanks in advance.

I managed my expectations given it's an all inclusive. However considering the price, I would skip this resort and go to one of the Royalton properties. Overall I recommend coming here only if you get a really good deal, otherwise it's not worth the money.

Our first time at a Secrets but not to Punta Cana. By far our favourite resort (Preferred was worth it to us). Our concierge Argelis made my 50th birthday memorable beyond words and am very grateful. He was always available to answer questions and any requests we made were completed efficiently and went above our expectations. We would highly recommend requesting him.
We are not Buffet people so it was lovely to go the entire week without visiting it (although we heard it was quite good). The beach and turquoise water were lovely with minimal seagrass (the ocean is a natural living habitat so confused why people complain about a tiny bit of seaweed on the odd occasion...seriously?). Unless you're wanting the very front row on the beach there was never a problem getting beds in the shade as late as 10am. They even went around verifying guest names and rooms in the Preferred section at the beach (saw a few kicked out). Not sure why people picked there as there were available chairs in non-preferred too and signs everywhere. We preferred the quieter pools but it looked like the party goers in the main pool were having a blast so there really is a place for everyone regardless of preference.
The food in all restaurants were varied and although not "foodie" standards at all times was pretty close. We didn't have a single bad meal. Room service was prompt and delivered hot.
Lots of activities and nightly entertainment if you want or places to quietly spend your evening. We really loved the versatility depending on your mood or preference.
We definitely would return and recommend to others.
