If you like swimming in the ocean, not the place for you. Murky, weedy and rocky. The bloody Mary’s and Caesar’s at the lobby bar are good. Tropical drinks too sweet. Pizza beside the pool good, juice bar at the beach good. Did not like the Spanish a la carte, others good. Beautiful well maintained grounds. Lots of ducks and other birds around the resort. Went on the boogie excursion and paid for pictures, never received them. No bugs. Bathrooms large and clean, even at the pool. Always chairs availability at the beach and pool.

Guys, just got back from an 11 day holiday and I can honestly say we had an amazing time! After reading reviews before we went we looked at the reviews on here and we actually tried to change the hotel but we decided to stick with it as TUI wanted too much money to change… we are glad we didn’t! Few hiccups - room was basic but we had the option to upgrade but didn’t feel we needed to! Grounds are lovely, they are refurbing rooms and the pool but it didn’t cause me any issues! A lot of bad press about the staff—— every member of staff I dealt with were lovely ( I don’t tip until the last day where I give a big tip to the staff that looked after me) and the staff were still lovely even though I wasn’t initially tipping! If you go on holiday to stick in the room all the time then I would upgrade but a hotel room to me is just were a sleep and get changed!

Worst service ever. We purchased prestige package, not worth it a penny!!! Room was remodeled, but shower and sink drains were clogged and weren’t fixed to an acceptable condition. Limited number of towels at the beach. Very poor customer service. Tons of seaweed at the beach and in the water. Looks like it’s never been clean. This Atlantic side seems to have always seaweed; therefore, the color of it is dark green.

Okay. Where to start. Firstly I must confirm that my wife and I have visited Dominican Republic on 5 separate occasions , as well as Mexico, Cuba , Antigua, Jamaica, Barbados, St Lucia, the Grenadines, all over Europe, and the Far East. I have never written a review before as I have never experienced somewhere that made me demand to move hotels, but this hotel achieved exactly that. If this review helps at least one person to decide not to book this hotel then it has at least achieved something. Will try and keep it brief, and also try to be fair so here’s the good points GOOD Drinks were acceptable. Food in Asian was good. Gardens were kept nice REALLY BAD Everything else ROOMS Very dated. Smells of mould. 3* at best. AC did not work. Reported, not fixed. Ceiling fan saved us. No towels. Reported. Not solved. Rusting taps, sink broken, shower curtain in a 5* hotel (wow) flooding all over the bathroom. Television with only Spanish speaking films and programs. Decor very poor, needing urgent upgrade. POOL AREA Only one pool on resort which had a swim up bar in it. Love this idea but only if there is another pool to swim in. The pool bar opened at 10 am. No problem, except that people were queuing at 0950 for it to open, and sitting in the pool all day, without leaving. Due to the amount of people, at certain times of the day you could not actually get in the pool. At 10 am, the entertainment team turn up with 2 large speakers at the side of the pool and blast music all day, really no kidding, all day. We firstly moved away about 30 m to the furthest point possible, but still could not even concentrate on reading, relaxing or sleeping. And chance. We did go to the beach, but due to the condition of the sea , brown like Blackpool (honestly)’ we could not swim in it. Therefore returned to the pool as the only option to keep cool (32 degrees) MY wife’s stress levels were rising. We complained about the noise levels, and discovered we were on a long list. STAFF Our party of 4 all found the majority of staff very unhappy in their job. Almost all could speak absolutely no English. The reception staff were by far the worst we have ever experienced, uninterested, unable to communicate, unwilling to help. 2 exceptions to this are Eduardo in the restaurant, who was always happy and helpful, and Hermionia, an assistant manager, who really assisted us in moving hotels (next door to the Catalonia royal) after 4 days. CONCLUSION After we moved hotels we had a fabulous holiday. The neighbouring Royal hotel has everything that the above hotel has not. Please read our review ref this hotel titled Steve and Clair. We would strongly recommend you avoid this hotel, irrespective of cheapness. Having visited 5 other hotels in Dom Rep, I can confirm there are many beautiful places, both lower and upper costings. Believe the recent reviews, we decided to ignore them in hope, and paid the price of 4 days in a poor hotel.

Room service in general is pretty bad. We asked for new shower towels due to drying a leaking of air conditioner. When we were sleeping at 4 am, the personal opened the door giving a really huge scare to my wife. Related to maintenance of air conditioner: precarious. There was a leaking on the roof, as mentiones before, and the solution was disconnecting compresor so it became just an air exchanger, lol. Also, there are lack of beach towels, and a few times even not enough glasses on the beach bar. The restaurants are the same quality of food as the main buffet. If you dont give tips over the tips in this country, they just wont attend or just give the worst service ever. Just noticed this while talking with a few friends we met here. So if you even want to come after reading this worst adventure text, prepare to grab lots of paper-dollar-money. And just to give the final touch: the sea has plenty of marine algae, which doesn't let you see any of "turquoise sea". I would recommend other hotel. Final perception after being one week: an all inclusive called to be 5 stars which has the service of a 2 stars, food of 3 stars and just the infraestructure/arquitecture/decorating of a 5 stars.

We stayed in the Gold Reserve rooms. Our butler service was superb. There was nothing that they weren’t willing to do to help. We had elderly parents that needed assistance with travel back and forth to the front lobby and to dinner and never did they complain about having to wait on us. They truly were the greatest! Even house keeping was very helpful! Ronny, Carlos and Francisco were awesome! They made our trip one of the best experiences we’ve had in awhile as a family!!

We went in November and stayed for 9 nights AI in Privileged Junior Suite with 2 double beds like I asked. Room is comfortable, bathroom too, but we had leaking from ventilation above the toilete, imagine drops every time you sit . We reported that and they called us after 8 nights, day before departure to aks what is the problem. Resort is very nice, pool and some villas are under contruction but it didn't bother us so much. They are cleaning the beach and it is quite nice, but right behind the corner to Bavaro beach is part in front of Pearl club where is a huge amount of seagrass and it is awful. Like I said, we payed for Privileged upgrade and it is waste of money. When you pay Privileged, you get late check out at 3p.m. but only if hotel is full, which they don't know till your last morning so they told us just they that they are full?! Ridiculous! Guest sevice is very bad and not interested, reception is mediocre even you tip them, it is easier to say no, than to talk to us. Food was ok, we couldn't complain. Waiters are polite except one older lady, she was only inpolite. Main pool guy was inpolite like someone put him there for punisment ‍, but beach bar stuff were great. Then comes animation team, kids animation ladies Raquel, Karen and Kenya (sorry if name is misspelled) were trying and kids were having fun, but other guys in animation team were awful. Jose, at the teen room , I never seen that rude, inpolite guy. He was arguing with us, with no reason, but terrible English speaker. They all speak very bad English, Spanish guests are the favorits and for example first being served at the bar. Lead animation guy, Eduardo, so pricky, rude, I don't have so many bad words for him, and also one big guy. They made my 6 years old son cried 2x for no reason, just because it is more simple to say no and you resolved everything. Best day experience tour operater at the hotel just want to sell you overpriced tours, Camillo was our seller, I wouldn't book there anything. We payed for Saona and after 2hours of driving, bus turned around and we were driving back because Carribean sea wasn't so still, like they didn't know that that morning and we wasted 4 hours. I wouldn't go there anymore, they didn't ruined our vacation only because we decided to have fun, but they were not part of that. Oh yeah, tips, tips, tips and you get rudeness for that. We were in the villa 2 and it is closest to the beach and rhe pool but far from the lobby. You can call for a buggy but they are very inpolite too. Samuel was only ok. Massage was quite ok and resort shops are overpriced and too expensive. See you never again!

Before I get started on my review, I’d like to point out that it’s not lost on me that the following review falls under the category of “First World Problems.” I realize that I am truly blessed that I’m able to possess a Passport, let alone be able to afford a trip/vacation to another country. So, take this review with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila… but not tequila from this resort because terrible. Here we go… Despite some of the reviews, I took a chance and stayed at the Catalonia Punta Cana for my 40th birthday. That’s my mistake and I wouldn't recommend staying at this resort. The people are nice enough, but I honestly believe that this place doesn't have the resources to run an efficient all-inclusive resort. Don't dare ask for anything that isn't right in front of you already because it'll take them a LITTERAL 2 DAYS to get it to you. I asked for a hammock when I checked in. It was almost day 3 by the time I got it. And yes, I called AND visited the front desk several times and even spoke to a "manager." I asked for a king privileged suite and got 2 double beds. By the time the guy who helped me to my room let the front desk know about the error and finally call me to inquire about it, I'd already unpacked because I wasn’t about to waste vacation time waiting around all day for what I asked for on a less than one week vacation. The quality of the room was similar to that of a motel 6. The floor was gritty, the curtains and blankets were stained and there was what felt like sand in my bed sheets, which tells me they made the bed, folded the towels, but didn't actually clean anything. Speaking of towels... I should have brought washcloths with me from home because the resort didn’t have any in my room for the first 2 days! How they expect people to wash their behind is beyond me. When I called the front desk to ask for washcloths, they brought me 2 bathrobes. I still didn’t have any washcloths by day 3. Also, they ask you not to take the room towels to the beach or pool, and yet I had to wait almost a half hour for the beach towel stand to get clean towels. They were always out! And even the ones they give you have questionable orange stains on them. For an all-inclusive resort, you'd think there would be at least a bottle of wine in your room. There is NO alcohol available in the rooms so you have to go to one of the bars. The property is so damn big that getting ANYWHERE is a HIKE. I shouldn't have to walk the length of 2 soccer fields just to get to the front desk or a bar to get a drink. Don't expect to get a glass of champagne with your breakfast. I asked for a glass of champagne with breakfast and instead of just telling me that bar isn’t open, they kept saying “one minute” (that actually took 20 minutes) before I got up to get it my damn self. THAT’S when I learned that the bars don't even open till 9am or 10am if you’re on the beach. The liquor selection is trash. How is it that as an all-inclusive resort only carries ONE kind of tequila and it doesn't taste good? If you're going to be a resort and you only carry ONE tequila, it needs to be Casamigos or Teramana. When in the common areas there may be one person walking around taking drink orders, which is absurd. Even in the main cafeteria only beer and wine are available No liquor. (?!?!) Which means if you want a real drink, you have to leave your meal and go find one. When I made my way to the beach, I couldn't have 3 minutes of peace before the wolves descended asking if we wanted to book this excursion or buy that trinket. I don't mean to sound rude, but I was able to get all the way here without any help. I don't need you bugging my vacation time by trying to sell me stuff! If I want to go on an excursion or get a massage or buy shells I'LL COME FIND YOU!! Get away from my beach chair please! It rained the entire time we were there. This is absolutely no fault of the resort. HOWEVER, the abysmal drainage system is! When it rains, everything floods! So, why they would make some of their walkways out of the most slippery material possible is beyond me. I couldn’t walk from one side of the resort to the other without being ankle deep in rain water. There aren't many places to eat at any time of day. So, of course the lines for the rood that IS available are RIDICULOUS because they only have one or two people serving to order. For example, there's one person on the beach making crepes. ONE! I waited in line a half hour to get crepes. The food was disappointing. Period. Here I was SUPER excited about the idea of Dominican food and how amazing it was going to be. We were literally feeding the food to the stray dogs that roamed the property, it was that bad. Whatever they seasoned the stewed chicken with is what they need to season ALL their meals with because it was the only thing that was really decent. I wish they would feed the guests with what Dominicans in that country eat instead of feeding the guests what they THINK we want to eat. The Wi-Fi sucks. The only place it worked consistently was in my room. If you decide to come to this resort, make sure you have a decent cell phone plan. The only "club" available is one where you have to actually pay for everything because it's not a part of the resort and they have the nerve to close at 7:00pm. Walking through the main area of the resort on a Friday afternoon/evening, you’re aggressively coursed into buying things from the set up tables to sell this and that. I ended up walking the long way around the resort just to avoid them. Even if you tell them that you’re not interested they will NOT take no for an answer and its f***ing annoying! You can tell that all of the money poured into this place is NOT going to the employees. There aren’t enough employees at this resort to efficiently run the property, and most of the ones that ARE there, don’t look all that happy to be there. I will NEVER stay at this resort again and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.

The hotel has the potential to be a fanstic hotel but so many things to let it down. I'm shocked at the 100s of comments I read about the guest having trouble with the front desk/reception staff and nothing has been done. We had a leak in our bathroom and called 4 days in row and nothing was done untill one night we called continuously. It's not OK to the say the rooms have AC when the lowest you can set it to is 24 degrees. This is too hot for people that come from cold climates. We asked if they could change it and were told it was not possible. We had money stolen from our room After it was cleaned. We reported this and 'investigating' was done and we were told we would have an out come 24-72 hours. Every time we called and asked what the outcome was, the phone was put down on us. You are constantly being sold something. The sellers on the beach usually leave after you saying no thank you but having to say this 20 times a day is exhausting. The sellers near the main restaurant are rude. They stand in your way making it hard for you to get past trying to sell you items you have been offered 30 times. The constant blasting music was only around the pool on the first few days. This was great as you had the choice to go the beach if you wanted quiet. But this changed then there was blasting music at the beach and pool and this was frustrating if you wanted quite time. We were really looking forward to the pool bar. This was shut for construction the whole 2 weeks and no signs of it being finished. This was very disappointing as we were given no warning about it. It is not right the hotel is listed as 5 star especially on websites like Tui, I would say only the exclusive guest experience close to 5 star. We were upgraded to a privilege room after our bathroom ceiling was leaking. I would not recommend you do this it was no better other than the bathroom was nicer. We both got food poisoning on 2 different occasions during our stay. It cost 29 dollars for anti direha medication at the hotel 3x the price it should be. Having said that we did enjoy the food and the different restaurants. I would recommend booking onto the A al cart restaurants as soon as you arrive to avoid disappointment. We had no trouble with this. I would also recommend getting room service breakfast, we did really enjoy it. Other good points are the bar staff. They work really hard to serve people in order Even when you get rude people trying to push in. The bar staff do not allow it. Jessica at the beach bar, issac and all the staff at the main bar were especially kind and friendly. They do some sort of food show everyday at the beach at 12.30 I would not miss this as this was something we really enjoyed. We enjoyed all the drink choices and I would say they were at a decent quality. Don't miss out on the coffee shop. This is by the shopping area. Really nice hidden gem for coffie, cakes and mini deli items. Don't miss out on the pizza to this is by the pool and is open till 2am if your looking for midnight food. The entertainment team are aimed mostly at spainish and French speaking guests. Having said that we enjoyed all shows at night and they work really hard.

Andy and Roberto both came to us the 1st day under false pretences, saying they were concierges and would look after our needs. It was a scam and they would not leave us alone, harassed us until I told him I was going to management to complain. Kept telling us how they would lose points if we didn’t listen to them etc. Going on vacation should not be a hassle nor should anyone keep getting harassed after saying “no” once. The rest of the staffs were pleasant and nice. No issues with with anything else. We were fortunate enough to have one of the newly renovated rooms.
