This was our second visit to this resort. We booked three rooms, six people, three generations. I am emailed the resort asking for rooms near each other, but received no reply. I also submitted a request to the resort by internal channel as I am a travel advisor askingfor early check-inand rooms together.
Arrivals - Noone greeted us, no cold towels and no welcome drink. We went to the check in with our bags and began the check in process. Luckily we were the only ones at the reception, so the check in took maybe 5-10 minutes as 3 people were helping us (one for each room). We arrived around noon and two of our rooms were ready which was very appreciated. The third room was ready in about an hour. Two rooms were next to each other and one room was down the hallway.
Rooms - clean, everything was in working order except for the safe in one of the rooms, but it was fixed the same night. We always had enough towels. The ac was cold, but loud.
Minibar was replenished daily. Enough water, soda, bear, etc.
Meals - we mostly ate at the main buffet at breakfast and dinner and had lunch at the buffet by the beach. The selection was great, everything we tried was good. There was a lot of fruit choices. Lots of fish, meats, veggies. We also ate at the Italian and lamb chops were good. The service was great. However we missed our favorite waitress Anna as she is working at Naiboa now.
Pools - our two young girls stayed at adults swim up pool and made some friends there.
Beach - we always were able to find chairs at around 9-9:30 in the morning with some shades. The beach is beautiful and we walked in both directions daily. There is a drink service at the beach and it was good.
Entertainment - we didn't participate in any day activities. Our girls went to Riu parties and said it was fun, more fun than they expected. Make sure to bring your ID or to have a copy on your phone. It's only for 18+.
We found the people at the reception were more friendly this time. The coffee shop at the lobby was always a hit.
Small note: we were never recognized as returning guests. We stayed at many other all inclusive and they always leave a welcome back note for returning guests.

As RIU Class diamond members we were upgraded to a sea view room on the third floor on arrival, which proved to be absolutely perfect for our three week stay. The only disappointment with its location was that in order to reach ground level we had to negotiate 72 steps. There was a lift one block away (around 100 meters) but this proved to be out of order several times. However, it proved to be good exercise in order to work off the extra kilos put on consuming the excellent selection of food and drink. There were also two more lifts three blocks away which took you down to reception and the main alcohol and coffee bars. The theme and main restaurants were situated one floor down from these, whilst the sports bar was on the same level. The beach restaurant doubled as the steak restaurant after 1800. The spa could only be reached by passing out of the main entrance down stone steps to ground level. Care has to be taken on the steps down to reception from the rooms as these are completed in highly polished marble as is the reception and bar areas. There are three pools one swimming one drinking and one sports, water was warm in them all. The sea was reasonably safe and warm, although there was a distinct undertow at times. The animation team in general were excellent and kept guests entertained throughout the day. Our thanks go to Miguel in particular who more or less adopted us for his yoga and dancing classes. The RIU Party entertainment program was awesome with two afternoon sessions and two evening sessions each week. Don’t miss any of them.
The main buffet restaurant had a large selection of different cuisines which even after three weeks proved to be really good, thank you chefs. There are also Spanish, Japanese, and Italian as well as the Steak house for Turf and Surf. Of these the Italian proved to be our favourite.
Alcoholic drinks are to international standard, with wines served from the bottle during meals., whilst soft drinks or beer can also be ordered. Our thanks must go to the waiting staff for their dedication and constant attention, especially Marco.
Finally our thanks go to the under manager Alejandro Moran for his kind attention throughout our stay. He can be seen from early morning till late at night keeping his finger on the pulse so to speak, nothing seemed to escape his attention.

We travelled to Riu Palace Punta Cana as 2 couples with 2 babies below 1 year old. Having been to many other all inclusives in Cuba, Mexico and Dominican, this hotel has great advantages and amenities for those seeking cleanliness, relaxation and personalised service. It is not for party groups, but has party options offsite in the other RIU complexes which you can access. The hotel is spotlessly clean and they do an amazing job at cleaning the rooms, lobby, beach, pools etc.
The beach is beautiful and the beach drinks service is abundant, so prepare some extra dollars for tips. There are many groomed palm trees providing shade for all types of tanning flavours. The food was good but not great, which was one of the down sides for us. Although there is a lot of variety, we would have expected a better culinary experience, especially from the a la carte restos. The cappucino bar is great for coffees and deserts. The rooms are not the trendiest or modern but they are updated, clean and have all the basic luxury needs including USB plugs in the wall outlets. The mini bar and its service was great, water and soft drinks twice a day. The low sides would be the drinks (although a great menu, they were not refined), the night entertainment (could have been more animated and luxurious) and no entertainment on the beach and finally, the hotel shop selling snacks and cigars was very expensive.. BTW great wifi accross the hotel and the beach area, and for those who like to take walks and sprint, the path that connects all the RIUs is great and you can feel secure. Accomodations are very baby friendly, washrooms have chancing tables and we were provided with baby cribs.

Overall our experience was excellent and I would both recommend this place to others and I would go back again. We were there December 19, 2019 to December 26. The service was spectacular! A minute didn't go by without staff asking if we wanted a beverage at the pool, beach, restaurants or lounging outside the restaurants. Truly could not be better. Plenty of lounge chairs at the pools. Just enough lounge chairs at the beach. Food presentation was beautiful. Actual menus at restaurants were good but I wouldn't say the tastes were our favorite. Buffet was good and assorted options. 1 issue at the pool occurred the day before we left on December 25th, in which they ran out of towels at 4pm and said they would not have any more for the day. I went back to my room and took the bath towels and then ordered more. If there was an issue with the towels then the manager should have done what I did and supplied shower towels. Back to the positives: we LOVED the coffee bar. Superb cappuccinos & desserts throughout the day. Rooms were up to date and clean. Modern! Mini fridge was refilled most days and when it wasn't we called to have it done. Would be nice if they offered more than 1 choice of beer which was President from DR. Also known as Dominican Water. If I could make 1 suggestion it would be to make the pool with the swim up bar only for adults or at the very least 15 years and older. Too many little kids splashing in a smaller pool. There were kids literally walking on the tables and jumping. For sure the parents were not parenting but if the club had a rule then it would not have been an issue. We stopped going to that pool because it was annoying. With 4 pools they could have had a restriction on that one or at least told the kids to stop jumping off the furniture and splashing. Shows were also entertaining.

We just come back yesterday from Riu Palace Bavaro.
It's specific to manage an hotel during a difficult period like we have now.
So being a business owner myself i do understand the big challenge that the managers had occurs.

My hope is that the report will get to the managers you hade done a great job.

The employees most of them were fantastics.

We can feel they were happy to have the chance to work,

exception for some of the bar tender may be to busy or to spoiled buy big drinkers.

But in general 99% were just great.

Food in general was more then ok we could find that the chefs made there best to vary the menu.
we took some pounds by the way. So that's a good sing.

Rooms and house keeping very good all the time and to be frank we were a bit warry to walk and stay on the resort not that we were afraid al the time but we were in special time. So get back to room we were happy to feel safe.

The ground were terrific the natural palmers palm tree was just nice and sometime we were almost alone.

We just have a suggestion to management please oblige all of the customer to disinfect hands mandatory all the time. when we were there i saw improvement because i made many complaint and we saw big improvement. Probably employees are shy to impose these rules to all but it's no excuses. Suggestion instead of leaving a disinfectant dispenser and watch every customer why don't you get bottle and ask the staff to put a little bit in every hands.

The reason we got there is really the tennis pro. Like my name said tennis men i love to play and play hard so i got please with Jose. He was so kind and we had so much fun you made a good investment by keeping him on site thanks' Jose. I will be please to transmit the hotel capability to our tennis group manager Louis the group may visit you soon 30 players. I will be please to see you again in January.

So over all nice trip i recommend to every people.

My wife and I just returned from a week long stay at Riu Palace Punta Cana. Upon arrival we left our bags with the "bellhop" and proceeded to the front desk for a smooth check in. All of the available amenities, as well as Covid policy and guidelines were explained to is. Masks are mandatory within all indoor common spaces, and hand sanitizer is provided upon entrance to said areas. Our return home Covid test was also booked at this time. Testing is done onsite as they have medical staff performing the swab which gets sent out for testing (free of charge to US citizens).
The exterior of the building itself, in keeping with the traditional Riu look, is quite majestic. The lobby, cafe area, and grand courtyard are just that...grand. The grounds are clean and the well maintained.
The beach is amazing! Relaxing to say the least. Clear blue water. Just enough waves. Palm trees that tower and provide much needed shade, since most of our time was spent here. And drink service.
Our room was nice and from our balcony we had a great view of a huge yard with tons of palm trees, which I might add, with the balcony door open, made for a few serene early evenings naps. Rooms were cleaned daily, and the mini fridge was restocked daily as well.
The buffet food was good. Dinner at both the oceanside steak house and Krystal were good and service was great. I would like to recognize Julio Sosa, he was always accommodating, respectful, humble, and attentive while waiting on us at breakfast and dinner.

I do have few minor gripes though. First, we had an issue with our room door where it would not lock correctly. Once the front desk was notified, maintenance was sent over and they repaired it. The bathroom in our room is definitely starting to show it's age. Grout in the shower is cracking, and so are some tiles. The bathroom could definitely use a coat of paint. And lastly, one that, while out of the resort's control, is of extreme neausance. They are worse than mosquitoes...I'm talking about those pesky vendors walking up and down the beach all day trying to sell crap. No! No! No! If I had a dollar for the amount of times I said "No!", well, you know the rest.

With all that said, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Riu Palace Punta Cana to family or friends, or for myself to return.

We visited the Riu Palace Punta Cana hotel in 1/2020 to great satisfaction. This year, after studying the preventive health measures of the RIO hotels for protection against COVID-19, we decided to repeat the holiday this year as well. We were not disappointed, on the contrary, very pleasantly surprised by the high level of security and services. The hotel was filled to 50%, measuring the temperature of guests, the spacing of tables and loungers, disinfection and cleanliness everywhere. Very attentive and helpful service, including the preservation of daily and evening animation programs. In the dining rooms there was a buffet and bar service, including the distribution of drinks with absolutely no problems. Finally, a very beautiful quiet and relaxing holiday and home we returned healthy and relaxed. When good measures are set and everyone is followed, hotels can be operated even in times of pandemic. Thank you.

The resort is beautiful and clean. The staff are overly nice and friendly. Always looking to help for a tip. Bring lots of cash with you. The front desk has a cashier to break larger bills for you.

The food is pretty good; however, I got sick. We enjoyed the steakhouse, Japanese and Italian specialty restaurants. They do purify the water but I’m not certain if they clean their fruits and vegetables with purified water. The tap water wasn’t purified in room, so, brush your teeth with bottled water! They have the same foods at the 24 hr sports bar and at the pool bar everyday. That was kind of disappointing honestly. They should stock your room with packaged snacks. I couldn’t even get saltine crackers. The store in the courtyard sells Gatorade for $4 a bottle. And the store doesn’t even have crackers.

The beach…completely out of their control but the seaweed is really terrible right now. It’s piled on beaches and surrounds you when you swim. We saw someone 1x during our week there come and clean up the seaweed off the beach and put it in a truck.

The country’s main source of income is tourism. And the resort lets people take advantage of that. The beach is swarming with those trying to sell you something. You are constantly harassed.

We loved our waitress at the buffet for breakfast and some dinners! She was wonderful.

Dear Megan R, Thank you for your kind remarks about our resort. We would like to take this opportunity to clarify that the beach is public, therefore, out of our reach and only local authorities are in charge of controlling unwanted behaviours. Moreover, during certain times of the year seaweed can be accumulated, depending on winds and tidal flows, which is something beyond human control and a completely natural occurrence. Even though it is a public beach, whose cleaning is done by the local authorities, our management allocates staff when occupancy allows in order to help with the cleaning as much as we can. We are sorry to learn that the gastronomy did not live up to your expectations, and that you had some stomach issues during your trip. Needless to say, we follow strict procedures while handling our food products in order to prevent and avoid any kind of alimentary risks or hazards. Travelling to different countries with different climate, may lead to gastrointestinal problems, which may not necessarily be related to food. Nonetheless, your information will be shared with the management. Wishing to host you again. Best regards, Hotel Riu Palace Punta Cana Online Reputation Manager

Great Hotel and the staff were very welcoming. Just got back after a 2 week break and I must say the hotel is the best out of them all on the complex which is predominately Riu hotels.

Positives

Very clean hotel and the staff work tirelessly to ensure it is immaculate.

Room kept very clean with some nice touches from the maid.

Pool areas and the grounds are very clean and always sun beds available so no need to get up early unless you specifically want the beds in the shade under the canopies.
Food was very good always plenty of choice in th main restaurant. There are 5 speciality restaurants, but you are unable to book in advance, only when they open on the day at 6 pm for that evening. this may be because the hotel was very busy so it was first come first serve and they are not open late.

Negatives.

The complex is massive but it is not advised to wonder off site unless on an organised trip or you get a taxi to a specific place. This can feel as though you are cut off from the outside world unless you book a trip.

Prices for nearly everything on the complex are fairly expensive compared to off site and I would suggest you haggle in some of the shops, especially on Caribbean Street.

Entertainment was hit and miss especially on the nights that there is a themed night at the Riu party venue off site about 10 mins walk from the hotel.

The culture of tipping for everything can be annoying. We tipped when we felt it was justified but at some of the bars it was expected and did at times impact on the level of service. That is how we interpreted anyway. If you do tip then the service is far better and they will look after you.

The main pool was closed on 2 occasions due to someone deciding to use the pool for the toilet. Disgusting. This was the large main people so was very annoying when it happened. You cannot blame this on the hotel though.

Beach was lovely and literally right there by the hotel from the pool areas. Apart from the issue with the seaweed. They did their best to clear this but it was an impossible task at times due to the length of the resort beach and also being on the Atlantic coast side.

Overall we had a great time and enjoyed our stay.

I flew from Boston to Baltimore to Punta Cana. Both outbound flights had under 30 people on them. Plenty of room to spread out. Customs and immigration in Punta Cana took minutes as no one was in the airport on a Tuesday. Fill out your customs form online for the DR and you won't have fill them out on the plane. Took Nexus Tours for the transportation to the hotel. Very quick as I was the only one in the van.
Hotel had my room ready. Ate lunch and sat out at the pool. Over the 5 days, I ate dinner at the Japanese, Krystal, and Steak House Specialty Restaurants. all 3 were very good except I had an over cooked Caribbean lobster at the Steak House and should have had the steak. Hence the name Steak House? My only food complaint was they put out the lox at dinner and not with the bagels and cream cheese at breakfast.
Hotel was very clean. Staff were great. Protocols are followed in the common areas and food services. No masks were in use (by guests) at the pool or beach when seated.
Returning on Saturday, the airport was much busier but I was at the gate about 20 minutes after the shuttle dropped me off.
