Getting there
Somewhat walkable
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travellers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
Stayed two nights on a tour. Beachfront hotel within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. Extremely noisy location, with loud music blaring across the pool all day long and nearby clubs playing loud music until 3 am. There is no soundproofing whatsoever - thin walls, poorly sealed doors (see photo). Ear plugs and white noise are a must. My room was quite large. Upon arrival, the A/C was off and the room was very hot. The ceiling fan didn't work. The hotel staff looked at it and said they would come back to fix it, but never did. Power sockets were inconveniently located (behind the bed, etc.) and all occupied. Had to unplug the TV to plug in my devices. Comfortable bed and pillows. Decent size bathroom. Shower with good water pressure, but the first night the water was just lukewarm (it was hot the second night). Minimal or no wifi in the room. Breakfast served quickly (unusual in Jamaica, where service is usually very slow) from buffet, and omelettes made to order.

Although we enjoyed ourselves, I am unsure if we would return. It is obvious that this resort is struggling. The staff is their best asset. They are all friendly and accommodating in every way possible. They are very Covid conscience, wearing masks and wiping down surfaces continually during the day. The rooms are kept clean, although the furniture is dated, and storage is at a minimum. The grounds are kept clean and attractive as well as the dining and common areas. The beach is groomed every morning. There is soap and shampoo dispensers located in the bathtub, but they are not filled, two couples in our party only had one room key, and only received a second key 3 days before departure, of a 10 day stay. We opted for the all inclusive package and although we all found something to eat at every meal, we expected more than what was offered. The salads were offend wet and soggy with just two or only one dressing choice, the presentation was a little undesirable. When pancakes and French toast were offered, syrup had to be requested, and a waitstaff member had to bring, what seemed to be the only bottle, which was highly watered down, and actually pour it on your order. The Bar situation was somewhat iffy as well. They only offered gin, vodka, and rum. They did not carry many conventional mixers, and the ones they did, they would run out of for a day or two. They would run out of one or two types of alcohol for a day. Drink recipes were not consistent, they would change even if the same bartender made them. The beer served was local only, wine was extra. Some of the drinks were extra one day and included the next. As I stated in the beginning the staff was great, the management along with who ever owns the property needs improvement.

We have traveled extensively to negril over 30 years. Like all resorts there are the good and bad. merrils 2 is a budget all-inclusive that has a number of repeaters and large # of Europeans. The food is mostly Jamaican fare buffet and drinks are not top shelf.Pluses are the friendliness of the staff , many have been there for years. A big thank you to Charlie and Barbara on the waite staff and Diago who kept the grounds immaculate. Also to our housekeeper Natasha who would take care of anything you needed. There are plenty of beach lounges and shade trees so no need to reserve early morning. There is a small convenience store next door and Drifters Bar for music lovers. There are few things I wish were available. There is no bar with stools, I like to meet new people at happy hour before dinner. A section of the dining room next the bar service area has tables and chairs and would make a good area to watch sporting events with a group but there is only a 19inch tv . There is live entertainment a couple nights a week but can get loud at times since they start at dinner time. A beach grill would be nice for a burger, even once a week would be nice. I think at their price point it is a great choice for Negril

I have stayed at this resort a few times, that was before Covid19, I considered it my go to place, felt safe being alone as there was 24 hour security. Upon arrival I was taken to my room, nice room but the AC was not cooling properly or to my standards, I reported the AC three days on the third request I was then moved to another room. The second room had a great AC and worked as I expected as I stated I have been to this same resort 4 times. The second room was great until it came time for a shower, I had no hot water, which is vital. I reported the water issue 3 times the first day (which was my 4th day of 7), the second day I requested hot water twice, no one ever came to repair the hot water. The last 3 days at the resort I took my 4th Cold shower, upon returning to the US, I was ill with a terrible due to the circumstances of a hot room and cold showers. As I recall the food was always good, I realized that things were much different at the resort and truely most surroundings were empty and still recovering from Covid 19. To add more misery to the stay, there was no TV available for the entire trip, yet each day a promise that it would be fixed by the next day never came. A few nights the power was run by generators, I paid good money for this trip and was so horribly unhappy. I will not be visiting this resort again, I was so disappointed with my accomadations at Merrils Beach Resort II and would not recommend family or friends.

Merrill’s is by far the best value for an all inclusive in Negril. The rooms are basic, but clean and air conditioned with a beautiful patio overlooking the perfectly manicured tropical gardens. What really sets Merrill’s apart from the rest is the staff. Every person we met was warm, friendly, and eager to help us with whatever we needed. The food was homemade and delicious and we felt pampered by the homemade breads, muffins, and cakes baked by the on-site baker. We moved to Merrill’s from an Airbnb that we’d booked on the west end that didn’t feel safe. We felt extremely safe and comfortable here and are so happy that we made the switch. Clean pool, plenty of beach loungers, security on site at both the entrance and on the beach. The hustlers in Jamaica are plentiful so I was pleased that security staff chased off anyone not wanting to take no for an answer. If you get the chance, let the on-site massage therapist (located on the beach under the tent) give you the best deep tissue massage you’ll ever receive at only $50usd for a full hour. Merrill’s is the perfect balance of all inclusive convenience while still having a bit more culture than the large resorts. You won’t regret staying.

Best beach resort and all-inclusive and value for money with a family vibe in Negril
Apr 2023
This is my fourth stay at Merrills and was my favorite time since now they have live music as well as being next to Drifters Bar which has a great afternoon free live Regaee and Roots Bamba is a short walk away so the best location on the beach. The staff is exceptional going above and beyond to make you feel welcome so you feel part of the family. The food is delicious home-cooked authentic Jamaican food. The property is lovely with beautiful vegetation, with a exotic paradise feel about it.
My check-in was so quick and easy and Spencer and Nadine are professional as well as friendly and listen to any concerns with a caring nature.
My housekeeper Vanessa was amazing so detailed and lovely.
Bartenders and servers to list a few Cheryl, Lorenxa, Barbara, Charlie, Trevor, Amanda, Sherieka, Melissa, Sheice Rhondeen, and Veneishe, sorry an + missed out cause know a few others should be added.

A little late on the review – we were there January 2023 and stayed at Merrils Beach resort for the last 5 days of our 12 day trip.
Check-in was great – we arrived around 12pm and didn’t really expect our room to be ready but it was! Second floor jr.suite room is massive!! High ceilings – 2 big beds, full size fridge, small table with coffee maker and coffee, big bathroom and loads of closet and drawers for clothing – a big plus for 3 ladies traveling together!
Proximity to Negril’s 7 mile beach – about 45 seconds from your room! Lots of loungers and some shade of trees if needed.
Food and drink very good. Buffet style for all 3 all inclusive meals but a good variety to please everyone, including authentic Jamaican dishes. Staff were friendly and helpful and always smiling.
Our only complaint was the loud music from restaurant (Kenny’s) across the street – not every night – but 1 night in particular it seemed to go on forever – but not a big deal really – we’re seasoned travellers and always have ear plugs or ear buds to sooth ourselves to sleep.
We are planning to return in January 2024. Merrils is not a 5 star resort but if you want authentic Jamaica experience on the best beach then this is the place for you! One Love!

Decided I needed a week away from work at very short notice, and as my wife doesn't have as much holiday as me, it would be a solo expedition.
I decided on jamaica as I hadn't been before and there were some great deals online. I decided on Merrils as the offer was too good to refuse.
I arrived in the evening so couldn't see much, but after about 2 minutes at the front desk I was checked in and sat in my room. The room was nothing special, but judging by the small amount of time I would spend there, this was inconsequential.
The next day I wandered down to one of the most incredible beaches in the world, and Merrills have reserved a perfect little slice of it for their guests - paradise.
The bar is open all day and only a few metres from the beach, offering beer on tap, cocktails and incredibly fast service. The food is also excellent, with made to order omelets and cooked breakfast in the morning, excellent chicken/pork/fish dishes for lunch, and a nice variety at dinner. I think this could get a bit repetitive if you stayed for more than 2 weeks, but it certainly didn't bother me. Charlie and his team at the bar and restaurant did everything in their power to make me feel welcome and saw to mu every request in very short order, faultless service!
Because the beach was so good and I was only there for a week, I didn't adventure out much and mostly read books on the beach with a beer. I did go out snorkeling for a few hours, arranged by the hotel, which was epic, and very reasonable at $30 (compared to what others were charging to take you out).
Check out was also very fast I was packed off efficiently to the airport with a smile and thanks from the front desk staff.
In summary, a supremely relaxing stay at a very chilled, no frills resort. If you like 5 star luxury then there are plenty of options, but if you want a no hassle no drama stay that avoids the crowds, then this is your place. Don't listen to the poor reviews, they are vastly over exaggerated and nit picky.
Thanks again to the team at merrils, I had a great time!

Nice small hotel with a friendly staff. Great vibe. We did the breakfast included instead of the all inclusive and ordered shrimp or lobster dinners or ate dinners elsewhere. The buffet had a nice selection of Jamaican food. You have to order and pay for dinner in advance to get shrimp and lobster.. We don't drink a lot of alcohol, but other guests felt the selection of liquor was too limited for an all inclusive.

I booked for 23 nights as a solo guest after being Ghosted by former travel companions. They couldn't have done a bigger favor! My stay was delightful and the weather was nearly always perfect. I met so many great guests and shared such a marvelous time with some other solo travelers. The resort is simple typical Jamaican with a wonderful staff whether in food services, housekeeping, or guest services. The food is predominantly Jamaican faire and served by friendly chefs who take pride in their work. I had previously stayed several times at Merrills 1 and Mrs Grandison was kind enough to bring me on a tour to view the transformation of that resort. Amazing! At Merrills 11 the guests were cordial and pleasant to each other; not something one encounters in a larger impersonal resort. For this reason, I'm plotting my next trip back despite only being home a month. The only negative I'd express would be that the security people often allowed select people to encounter guests while others were shooed away. One guard was observed napping during his paid shift. But overall, a safe and comfortable stay whether traveling alone or with friends. And the wildlife! A group of stingrays would swim by casually shopping for food, avoiding the guests...just a marvelous sight. One additional comment: please admire the sea life but do not bring these gorgeous creatures home...when they are gone, they'll be gone for good. Take a photo and gently return whomever you've removed from the water so someone else can experience their beauty
