Overall this hotel is great. It’s an ideal location for couples doing a romantic getaway- Boutique hotel with a serene environment, beautiful lobby area, pool with whirlpool/spa and of course direct access to the beach. The check in and check out process was efficient and adhering to all Covid related safety measures. Bonus - you’re provided with disposable surgical masks and portable travel size hand sanitizer, upon check in. The rooms are nicely decorated and clean and the bathrooms are larger than normal for similar hotels on the negril strip with dual sinks, a stand alone tube along with a shower. There’s a formal restaurant on site along with beach bar and restaurant, spa and gym. You are within 10 minutes of all negril attractions and walking distance of multiple other eating options both on the beach as well as the main road. I liked that the staff were friendly and helpful and the layout and amenities of the hotel however I wish there were kayaks or paddle boards.

Just returned from 10 nights at Sandy Haven for the fourth year in a row. Upon our arrival the first person we saw was Sinclair who offered up a big hug. At check in we were welcomed home then Pops, who seems to make sure EVERYTHING runs smoothly, showed us to our lovely room. Our ocean front room was immaculate thanks to Bridget. The location is the best on the beach and there are numerous choices for food and drink within walking distance. We enjoyed our complimentary continental breakfast every morning served by Shreka who always brought my Earl Grey tea as soon as I sat down. We looked forward to seeing her smiling face every morning. Once again we had an amazing trip. If you always stay in all inclusives while in Negril you really should give this luxury boutique resort a try. The size is perfect, we always feel safe and wandering up and down the beach is so much fun.

Sandy Haven is a nice hotel. Here are my pros and cons;
Pros
Nice clean hotel and updated rooms
Proximity to the beach is great. The beach is right there and they were nice enough to upgrade us to a beachfront room. We literally only had to walk a few steps out to it.
The first floor beach front rooms are the best because you have an awesome view and can have breakfast on your patio every morning.
The bar staff and wait staff are very friendly and efficient.
Nice proximity to walk the beach to other bars and restaurants.
Complimentary Continental breakfast every day was really nice (fresh fruit, muffins, coffee).
The manager was always present and very nice.

Cons
The front desk staff was not very helpful. When I was looking for information on excursions the woman literally just pointed to the stack of flyers and told me to take one. I had to go out and book the excursion myself.
The food at the bar was okay but the prices on the menu and what I was charged every day were different. They told me don’t go by the prices on the menu because they’re wrong.. we were charged about 35% more.
We asked for a cab to go about 5 minutes up the road for dinner and they said they has someone there who could take us.. and he charged us $30,. to literally go 5 minutes.
Their restaurants menu was limited and average.
We paid a regular cab driver the same to go Ricks Cafe which was twice as far.
The day beds on the beach were very dirty. Would be nice if they cleaned them.

Overall I enjoyed my 6 night stay at Sandy Haven. I don’t believe you would be disappointed if you chose to stay here. It’s probably the best hotel in that area.

We stayed here for 5 days over Thanksgiving weekend. We opted for a second floor ocean view upgrade and got a nice corner room with a spectacular view of the ocean and beach below. No problem with noise, Negril is quiet except for certain spots and they had ashtrays on the decks/patios where you weren’t hassled if you wanted to puff a bit. That was not the case at another resort where I had to sneak behind bushes. We enjoyed buying patties and seafood on beach and loved their French press coffee in the morning. The staff here are friendly and work hard. We ate at their beach barbecue one night which was a little disappointing as we found the meat a bit dry and selection sparse. We didn’t eat at Bongo’s. Pool was a nice temperature and the grounds are pretty and well maintained. We felt safe and pampered. I liked the central location, we saw just about everything on the beach and had beautiful walks and sunsets.

We just returned from Sandy Haven and are already planning a trip back in 6 months. It was a perfect vacation, in a huge part due to Sandy Haven and its dedicated staff. The premises are stunning, situated on a private slice of beach with rooms overlooking the ocean. Each room has a well sized balcony where you can have breakfast delivered to your room. Because it is a small resort, you get the luxe experience of having everything you need at your fingertips, but at the same time without the big gawdy feel of being somewhere with a ton of rooms. In fact, it often feels like a quiet secluded semi private beach, even though it is on the main strip of Negril. After just a couple of days we knew (and loved) everyone who worked there. Rohan and Ralph at the front desk were professional, friendly and responsive to all of our needs and wants. Sandy haven has 2 restaurants, both of which have an array of scrumptious food options and a great reasonably priced. Kian and Kerry mix a delicious drink and are very attentive, and Nicardo and Pops are always around if you need a beach towel or advice about things to do. We absolutely loved staying at Sandy haven, they went above and beyond to make my birthday so special and I can’t wait to go back.

It saddens me to leave this poor review for Sandy Haven as I have previously always enjoyed the hotel. My family and I have frequented Sandy Haven for the past six years. We have referred many of our friends as well.

The location of the property has been the draw to Sandy Haven as customer service has always been Stay friendly but slow. This trip we experienced horrible service, not due to the staff but due to the owner, Antoinette Chen.

Ms. Chen was completely consumed with entertaining her friends and family not paying guests, understaffed the hotel for the holiday and berated staff in front of guests. We even watched in horror as she took cash tips from a bartender. When confronted about all of this she was unapologetic and rude!

The staff at Sandy Haven (GM, Owen Hendley, Tamar, Tevin, Andre, Vanessa) are hard working, kind and eager to please but they are completely handicapped by the owner and her lack of concern for them and hotel guests. I was shocked to learn the owner is on the Board of Tourism as she seems to know absolutely nothing about customer service.

Dear 365Kaif: Thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Sandy Haven Resort, we value your input and use this information as a basis for training purposes and to carry out any necessary improvements. We regret that you were displease with some events during your stay. Unfortunately, over the Holiday Season Negril and the surrounding community was faced with stringent early curfew hours which caused difficulties for staff to get work thus resulting in short staff. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Thank you for the wonderful remarks you extended to our staff who served you and your friends, we have shared your review with them. They are however, gutted by the unkind and unfounded negative comments you expressed of our supportive and very caring Managing Director. It was typical of her very supportive nature why she was assisting us through this challenging period even though she was on holiday with her immediate family who journeyed from far to be with her. Andre also confirmed that the tip you so graciously offered was placed in his tip jar and confirm that Ms. Chen was indeed only assisting him to reconcile his end of day work. The Hotel has never taken tips paid to staff members; it is appreciated when guest express their gratitude to our esteemed staff. In the entire time of my employment at Sandy Haven I have never heard Ms. Chen berate any team member, she was immensely proud of how well her staff performed despite the many challenges and was very encouraging. With the foregoing the staff and management hope you find it fit to remove this miss-placed review. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to the opportunity to host you and your friends on your return to Negril.

I made a reservation for Sandy Haven Resort on October 28, 2022 for three nights arriving on November 15, 2022. The reservation was confirmed. Upon arriving at the hotel on November 15 around 3pm we were informed that we no longer had a reservation. We were told that the hotel had tried to call us but they were unable to get in touch with us. We were on an international trip to Jamaica and our phones were on airplane mode. While waiting at the reception we noticed the pool and whirlpool were rather dirty and needed cleaning. The resort didn't end up looking like the pictures we saw online. This may have been providence since we ended up going to the Charella Inn which we really enjoyed.

I've stayed at 6 or 7 different small Negril beachfront hotels and Sandy Haven is by far the most upscale and luxurious. I believe there may be only one or two other non-all inclusive hotels on Negril Beach that are as practically perfect in every way. My room was immaculate with the perfect a/c. I never touched a setting and the room had everything I could ever want. Staff is extra helpful and friendly including "Pops" who is combination bellhop, security and all around helper and Miss Sinclair who handles towels on the beach and watches out for your stuff if you take a walk or keeps an eye out for any beach hustlers who appear unwanted. My only complaint would be limited options for dining which may have been due to COVID but I appreciate REAL Jamaican food and had to cross the street or eat next door (in either direction) for my Jamaican favorites. I'm home 3 days and still dreaming of my chaise beneath the shady trees and the PERFECT beach location. This is a place for "adults" (16+). While I adore little kids, I appreciated the peace of the adult atmosphere.

This was my first trip with my mom to Jamaica. We arrived on the property on Dec 26th. We are were aware that COVID measures would slow down the pace of things, we were not aware that the owner wouldn't be concerned. My mom's friend stays at this property frequently and has had nothing but good things to say. Boy, I wish our experience was the same.

1. When we arrived on the property it was after 7 pm. We were informed there was a 7pm curfew in place. Well, after traveling for several hours to get to Jamaica and then another couple of hours to get to the property and not have any food was awful. Everything around was closed. I understand this is a boutique hotel and because there were only 8 rooms occupied when we arrived It would have been nice to have some food on hand for the guest especially since the island has a curfew. Especially when you know you have other guest arriving later in the evening.

2. The owner had family on the property the entire time and it was very easy to tell where the staff priority was. Thats ok if you have staff in place to accommodate guest, which she did not. If she wanted to entertain family then maybe shut the property down and make it a family affair. The property was understaffed due to management not properly having staff in place. We sometimes waited on food for an hr.

3. We checked out and decided to go to another resort that was holding staff over to accommodate guest because of the curfew. The owner would not refund our nights that we paid for. Unbelievable!! We ended up coming back to the property after 4 days because we didnt want the money to go to waste and I will not be back to Sandy Haven.

4. I would like to give a big ups to Chucky, Ralph, Pops, and the GM. The GM seems to be handling things as best as he can but Im sure working with the owner has got to be quite a challenge. Also we were told that kids under 12 were not allowed on property which is another reason we booked, however, the owners family had kids around the property. What a distraction for me since I was told no kids were allowed. Dont get me wrong I LOVE KIDS but not while trying to escape.

Thank you very much for taking the time out to share your feedback, the Hotel uses this information for training purposes and to make improvements. The Hotel customarily request our arriving guests to provide their ETA for planning purposes however for third-party bookings unfortunately the Hotel does not have access to guests contact details until their arrival. Once you informed the Hotel of your intention to go to an All-Inclusive hotel the front- desk pointed out that your booking policy is a non-refundable rate, however the Hotel offered, in lieu of forfeiture, a hotel credit for a future stay which was mutually accepted. We were delighted when you choose to return to Sandy Haven Resort for the majority remainder of your vacation. The staff has been experiencing severe challenges during the holiday season due to the stringent Government curfew restrictions which resulted in some staff member being unable to report for duty and ultimately resulted in staff shortages, however the present management, and staff inclusive of the owner stood together to deliver our best hospitality service despite this setback. The family group to whom you refer are NOT related to the owner but were paying guests like yourself with two children over of 12 years of age. Thank you for the special mention of several of our hardworking and dedicated staff, I will pass your favourable comments to them. We look forward to again hosting you, your family, and friends at Sandy Haven Resort and to have the opportunity to share our warm friendly Jamaican hospitality.

The good, the bad and the ugly
The Good The staff were lovely from security to the waitresses and the check in staff. Very friendly and helpful. Particularly ' Pops' who couldn't do enough to ensure we had a great stay.
The Bad The hotels booking and reservation system. After we paid our money to the hotel, the receptionist informed us we would have to stay in 3 different rooms for the duration of our stay, which meant packaging and unpacking our luggage three times (it was only a 5 night stay), we expect better when we're paying almost £300 per night. Not what you would call relaxing! The reservation manager was very apologetic stating that bookings through 3rd parties (hotels.com in our case) don't always accurately respect availablity. I would have understand that if it was one change - but 3. We also saw that a few of other guests had the same issues and had to move. The Ugly
The pool and spa. They were both absolutely filthy to the point that no one wanted to use them and they ended up closing them. The equipment in the gym didn't work, was old and dirty. To leave it on a positive, the location is great and the beach is absolutely breathtaking.
