Our family booked a stay at Chippewa Village for 11 nights in April, this was our 7th trip to Jamaica and 3rd to Negril. We based our selection on price, location, the Chippewa website and reviews from this site and others like it. We have stayed at small hotels in the area and have a pretty good idea of what...

I traveled to Negril with 4 other friends, all female. John (The owner) helped us straight away with a tipping crazy taxi driver! Had the most amazing time whilst we stayed here. The rooms were perfect and the people staying were really friendly and full of great advice for 5 girls with a very tight budget! John's home made bread...

My husband and I have travelled fairly extensively around Jamaica and were very satisfied with our stay at Chippewa village. As other travellers have commented, owner John is an excellent host – very knowledgeable, helpful and generous. He made us feel really welcome. The guesthouse is well located in Negril-both for beaches, eating out and nightlife. After a couple of...

We recentley travelled to Negril, Jamaica this past January. We found Chippewa Village on the internet. Room price was reasonable and it is hidden back away from the road and beach resorts. It is a tropical paradise, with over 100 species of various tropical lovelies! Great bird watching too. Tons of parrots, red headed woodpecker, song birds and hummingbirds. This...

Warm, cozy atmosphere which is personified by an excellent hotel owner and manager. Good sized rooms with native American adornments, which are kept clean and tidy. Air conditioning, fridge and safety deposit boxes appear to be part and parcell of each room and room rates are relatively low. What makes the place however is the friendliness and generosity of the...

As a female traveling alone, I wondered how to enjoy all Jamaica has to offer on my own. The owner of Chippewa was so accomidating. I had a charming apartment designed and built by him. A master woodworker, chef, and clothing maker. The pool was spectacular and so many places on the property to enjoy the moonlight. His Eco friendly...

My boyfriend and I stayed at Chippewa for 4 days in February. We were trying to keep costs down and travel around as much as possible, so Chippewa was definitely in our price range. We stayed in one of the little one room cottages, which was kept very clean and suited our needs perfectly. One thing that was super great...

My wife and I stayed at Chippewa Village for the second time and will be back. In fact we are planning to be there for her 60th birthday in two years, and inviting a bunch of friends to take over the place for a couple of weeks. All the buildings were designed and built by John Babcook, the live-in owner....

We stayed four nights here in August and had a great time. Although we'd booked a cottage, when we arrived we changed it to a studio (negotiated a good rate too). This was a good idea as it meant we had cooking facilities. The quirky room was very large (two double beds) and clean. John, the owner, is very friendly,...

My husband and I are low-key people (public school teachers and activists) who have travelled extensively and have stayed in hostels, homestays, luxury resorts and tents. I say this because I wouldn't want the reader to think I'm a snob when I say the following: we were completely disappointed by Chippewa Village and switched hotels after 2 nights of staying...

“-Wifi is very strong and reliable outside of John's office, and it even reached sometimes to the cottage. The rooms are not intended to have wifi access, but I ended up having connection whenever I needed it. -The cottage has no stove, but the food in Jamaica is so damn good... you should definitely be eating at all of the local restaurants! The prices are generally very reasonable. -Rocky, the black lab, takes a minute to warm up to some people. Have treats in your hand, and he will be like butter in your hand! Princess is a sweetheart to everyone, but appreciates treats as well as belly rubs.”
