We visited Royalton in St Lucia last year as a couple and was recommended the Royalton in Negril so booked it for our family holiday this year with three children 8,11,15. We booked a one bed presidential suite swim up room. Arrival was lovely, greeted with a drink and taken to diamond club check in. Personally having visited the Royalton in St Lucia where I couldn’t have justified paying for diamond, I think I would have been disappointed in Negril if we hadn’t. Beach and pool are in a better location and pool was slightly quieter than main pool. Service throughout hotel was the best we’ve had in the Caribbean and we’ve visited a lot of the islands. Food was really good throughout. Always served drinks quickly and with a smile. Service was much better than St Lucia and staff a lot friendlier. We did tip at the bar in the evening as cocktails and service were good. Unlike the resort in St Lucia, where ‘constant tipping Americans, got served first, in Negril all nationalities were served quickly and well. Our butlers, Denato and Daron were amazing and couldn’t do enough for us. We only really used them for bits for the room and when struggling with reservations which they did so quickly. I think some guests use their butlers like slaves. We however were more than capable of putting towels on our own sunbeds without demanding the butlers to do it. Foam party was fun and evening entertainment was brilliant. Couple of downsides… the teppanyaki was rubbish, it was boiling hot, the fans just blew hot smelly food smoke in our faces, the chefs did no entertainment at all and we couldn’t wait to get out. The teppanyaki was really disappointing when comparing it to the St Lucia Royalton. Also the spa experience wasn’t great, it wasn’t bad but having done a lot of spas abroad they weren’t very attentive and it was just okay rather than amazing. I think because the prices are on par with London prices you expect what you pay for, being shown round and offered a drink after the massage etc would have been nice. The hotel could do with a little tlc in areas but nothing major that spoilt our holiday. All the staff were friendly, helpful and we loved our holiday. When booking a holiday you also need to compare the price to what you want, its a good 5star resort but there is a reason why some 5 star resorts in Jamaica are twice as much. If you want a stunning, absolute luxury 5 star hotel then pay twice as much and go to sandals etc. If you want a lovely luxury good 5 star resort with good service, entertainment and where you’re family will have fun and you won’t be disappointed then book the Royalton. We did not expect it to be the same as a 5 star resort in Maldives or Dubai as their standard is a lot higher and I think people need to consider it when booking and how much you pay. Yes it’s expensive to go to the Caribbean but 5 star resorts do vary according to the price. But we loved our holiday and will definitely be going back. Thank you Royalton Negril!

Just returned from ten days at the Royalton, Negril and already looking to return next year. We both had an amazing and relaxing holiday.

There is a buffet restaurant that caters for many tastes, lots of choice and nice food. There are themed restaurants that require booking. We tried the Hunter Steakhouse, Calypso for Caribbean food and the Italian. We both thought the food was ok in Calypso and the Italian restaurant however preferred the buffet overall. There are many bars dotted around the complex, we visited the beach bar adjacent to the main entertainment stage area. The bar staff were wonderful with special thanks to daytime bar ladies Tanesha, Cheval and our main man Andrew who worked in the evenings. These people really made our holiday special and are an asset to the hotel.

The hotel location was great, situated at the end of the beach of the bay. We had a junior suite in block six with a jacuzzi bath. The room was cleaned every day to a high standard. Thanks to our cleaner Annafette, Our room had wonderful air conditioning and a ceiling fan that due to the hot outside temperature was lovely to return to our cool room. Only issue it could be quite noisy with the entertainment until 11pm. We’ll probably pick a quieter room next time.

The hotel shop is quite expensive for souvenirs, so consider the locals on the beach in the blue huts at the centre of the bay.

As a single mother, I brought my three children (12 and under) to this resort on my own. We had a wonderful time. The resort was set up very well for the kids. We upgraded to the diamond club, which was well worth it, just for proximity to beach and quiet alone. We prefer the beach and quiet, no alcohol. We didn’t use the pool much, the party vibe isn’t our scene. I would highly recommend this resort for any single parents wishing to take their kids on a tropical holiday. My children had a wonderful time. I felt very safe with my children walking around. Kenisha and Brian were very helpful to me, I was very thankful to have them.

I thought the food was quite good for an all inclusive. Lunchtime at the buffet was by far the best. There were times that they ran out of some essentials like yogurt, granola and tea. The oatmeal needs some attention. The kids enjoyed the restaurants, but I thought calypso was by far the best.

Parts of our room could have been much cleaner. I think the bathroom surfaces need a very good scrub, but the rest of the room was quite nice. Daily housekeeping did a great job.

My only concern with the resort was that many of the staff that did not communicate much with the guests just generally didn’t look overly happy. The dining staff seemed down. When I looked at the workers, I hoped that they were treated well as employees and paid well. Everybody has an important job at the resort to make it look so well put together and run smoothly. I think many of the staff members don’t get tips so I made a point of tipping the people that may not get anything. I think this is important to do.

The landscape that this resort is on is very beautiful. The beach is wonderful for small children. We asked one of the guys walking the beach to take us on a one and a half hour boat tour for snorkeling and an island adventure and that was well worth it. Kenisha also helped us with a drive to Ivan’s restaurant which was very memorable. We went for a sunset dinner.
Overall, I highly recommend this resort. None of us wanted to leave, we had a very memorable, beautiful holiday.

Came back from 14 nights today this was our second 2 week stay we stop there 2 years ago.
Would we go back not a chance its a tough one so I thought I would just give you a list of stuff that was not acceptable imo. And a few things that were.
Sports bar two meals orderd only one arrived the chef did a runner for an hour when I had mine. Wife's came 1.5 hours later. Then the soup came out last it was lovely but only one spoon the only other spoon was a tea spoon to eat soup with is what we were told.
Room service was OK and worked well
Food in the bookable restaurants was good if you can get booked in I found a hack that if you logged on at midnight when the reservation list reopens you could get a table.
Housekeeping was a joke no fridge refilling had to keep asking the wife had no quilt on her bed for two nights despite asking 3 or 4 time.
Coffee in the room was not available and we had to keep asking for some.
The small beach was our favourite the large one is full of hawkers it doesn't bother me but the small one is quiet.
Despite the signs you need a towl on a sun lounger buy 6.30 to reserve one or you are out of luck.
Talking of towls some days you had them in the room some days not and waited 2.5 hours for Housekeeping to deliver them.
The noise round the main pool / kids area is mental loud and it full of very very loud drunk Americans (sorry if you Americans reading this thats not to say some are not
English).
When we pulled a plug out of a socket in our room the whole unit came out leaving the naked wires I fixed it I am an electrical engineer lolll.
In general the hotel is clean tidy and well looked after.
Millicent Samuels in the Italian was lovely and a great waitress the bar staff are ok the heavy tippers are always served 1st that will be the American influence.
The bars ran out of beer upstairs at one point and they were pouring it from cans didn't really bother me tbh.

That will do for the moment I will edit if any thing else comes to mind.

So let me start at the beginning I was at Royalton Negril for 5days/4 nights.
Check in process was extremely long although I was told I would get a room in a 1 hour it took 3 hours, but I must say the room was beautiful we had the king swim up with jacuzzi tub in room. Only downfall the A/C stopped working twice. 1st time someone came quickly, 2nd time we were leaving the next morning and reported it to front desk.

Entertainment: the "Vibe Team" I give it 5/5 the DJ at the bar was amazing had everyone on their feet dancing and having a great time. Stage shows were good very nice Bob Marley Tribute.

Staff: I would say 85% of the staff was pretty nice some had a little attitude here and there.

Pool/Beach: Infinity pool and clean beach if you want a day bed or lounge chair be prepared to be outside by 6am to hold one otherwise forget about it. Poolside music was good, and they kept the guest entertained throughout the day.
and Finally ....... I

Food:
Food truck had assortment of burgers, fries and patties, Was tasty.
Pool Grill jerk chicken, jerk pork and corn was good,
Buffet certain items they ran out authentic Jamaican dishes, my suggestion always have always enough of the Jamaican authentic meals.
Restaurants: If you don’t download, the app and book early you will have difficulty with an availability.

The Restaurant Calypso was very, very disappointing this was supposed to be the authentic Jamaican restaurant and it was a horrible experience. We order curry goat with rice and peas, and I ordered the Jamaican Coconut Crusted Snapper. The curry goat came bottom of bow filled with oil. Not gravy Yes, I said oil. I have a seafood allergy to shellfish they ask that at every restaurant so why when I sked to have my food cooked separately, I was told everything is fried in the same oil and I couldn’t get the dish I wanted, I was told to pick a 2nd option. Why should I? What’s the sense of having someone with a seafood allergy eat in a restaurant if you could not cater to me. I was offered steam fish it had no taste was split in half with some white sauce and the plantain was hard and not sweet. We ended up leaving and didn’t not eat the food, left hungry because it was late.
I'm unable to review any of the other restaurants because we were unable to book any there was always going availability.

I would have given it a There4/5 but because of the issue with the food I'm giving it a 3/5.

Overall I enjoyed my stay but please work on this food issue a lot of people can get sick who have seafood allergies and you guys must cater to individuals like me.

Dear Relax601107, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed review of your recent stay at Royalton Negril. We truly appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear that you enjoyed several aspects of your visit, while also acknowledging the areas where we need to improve. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience you experienced during your check-in process. While we are pleased to hear that you ultimately enjoyed your beautiful swim-up room with the jacuzzi tub, we regret that the A/C issues interrupted your stay. We are reviewing our maintenance procedures to ensure that such problems are addressed more promptly in the future. It’s wonderful to know that you enjoyed the entertainment provided by our "Vibe Team" and the DJ. We will be sure to pass on your compliments to them and the team responsible for the Bob Marley Tribute show. We appreciate your feedback on our staff. While we are pleased that most of the team made a positive impression, we will address your comments about the attitude some staff members displayed to ensure a more consistent level of service. We are also grateful for your feedback on the pool, beach, and food options. We understand the importance of securing a lounge chair early in the day and will consider ways to improve availability. We’re glad to hear that you enjoyed the food truck and pool grill, but we regret that the buffet did not always meet your expectations for authentic Jamaican dishes. Most importantly, we are deeply sorry to hear about your disappointing experience at Calypso. The issues you described with the curry goat, seafood allergy accommodations, and overall quality of the food are concerning. We take food allergies very seriously, and we are reviewing our procedures to ensure that we can better cater to guests with specific dietary needs. We will also address the quality of dishes served at this restaurant to ensure they meet our guests' expectations. Regarding the difficulty in booking other restaurants, we will review our reservation system to make it more accessible and convenient for our guests. Thank you again for bringing these matters to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back and provide you with an improved experience in the future. Warmest regards, Royalton Negril Management Team.

Today we are ending a stay at this hotel. We usually travel every year as a family, but generally go to either the Dominican Republic or Mexico, or the Bahamas. It was a first for us to go to Jamaica. Having already done Royaltons, this was disappointing.

We encountered several problems upon arrival, and throughout the week. First, I was accompanied by my husband and my two children, and we were given a room with only one double bed. It was very clear that there were four of us. After more than an hour of negotiation and searching, we were moved to another block. Then came the water problem, no hot water for 24 hours. Then the safe which no longer opened, and which afterwards could not be locked. But until then, it was okay.

Let’s talk restaurants… There is only one restaurant where you are supposed to reserve 24 hours in advance and it is the Zen restaurant. The others are always without reservation and we were told that there would always be room. We realize throughout the week that it is almost impossible to eat in the à la carte restaurants, because they are already all reserved in advance by the butlers. But for that you have to be part of the Diamond club. We managed to eat Italian twice during the week after a lot of waiting, and one evening Indian, where there is no Indian food on the menu... A real joke. During our week-long stay, two evenings the buffet was closed because they were having a fiesta outside and had taken out food outside. With definitely much less choice. But in general, the quality of the food at the buffet was excellent. At least one nice positive point.

There is a large main swimming pool, adjacent to the children's pool with water features. There are so many people in the afternoon that it is unpleasant to swim there. You have to reserve your places at the swimming pool around 6:15 a.m., otherwise there is no chance of getting chairs. Luckily I'm an early riser, so I quickly understood the game. But what a disgusting smell at the pool!

There was a Bako on our beach for three days, digging large holes, right next to the swimming pool, in order to bury the algae that had collected on the edge of the beach. There was a horrible smell, noise, in short not pleasant.

Fortunately the temperature was on our side, a little rain, but it was perfect.

The service is not very good either. Some employees are smiling and greet us, otherwise many of them are very stupid. But despite everything, we were able to enjoy our good times as a family, taking advantage of this beautiful warm sand, the sea which was also very beautiful. Not as blue as in the photos, but I still loved this stitch.

Also the sellers who come by every five minutes on the beach to sell us brownies “that makes you happy”! Ahahaha! we took advantage of the sun, and we still came home to rest.

Disappointing Experience at Royalton Negril Resort

I chose the Royalton Negril Resort based on glowing reviews, but my experience fell far short of expectations, especially for Diamond Club level service.

Check-In & Room Issues
From the start, the check-in process felt disorganized and underwhelming. Despite booking Diamond Club, there was no butler to greet us, and our room was missing basic essentials like bath mats, towels, and an ice bucket. When I requested extra towels, they were taken from other rooms instead of being properly supplied. My room’s drawers were stuck, making it impossible to unpack, and the shower required a plumber to fix, further disrupting my stay.

Dining Experience
The food quality was subpar. Much of it seemed prepared days in advance, with stale pancakes and lukewarm dishes. There were no clear signs warning of hot surfaces, which led to me burning my arm. This lack of attention to detail was concerning.

Service Issues
The promised butler service was inconsistent, and room service frequently failed to deliver. Transport within the resort was unreliable, with long wait times for the shuttle, forcing us to walk everywhere. This was particularly frustrating given the resort’s size and the premium price we paid for convenience.

Spa Services
The spa experience was another disappointment. The staff appeared untrained, and the quality of the pedicure and manicure was far below professional standards.

Overall Impression
While the swim-up pool was a rare highlight, the overall experience was extremely disappointing for a resort of this caliber. The lack of proper training, poor management, and failure to deliver on promises made our 20th anniversary celebration stressful and unsatisfying.

I cannot recommend Royalton Negril Resort at this time and urge management to address these significant issues to meet the expectations of their guests.

This version keeps your feedback detailed but removes repetitive points to ensure clarity and professionalism.

Dear Adventurer591325, Thank you for sharing your experience at our resort. We sincerely apologize that your stay did not meet expectations, especially considering the premium service level promised with the Diamond Club package. It is concerning to hear about the issues you faced with check-in, room amenities, and the lack of attention to detail. Missing essentials, malfunctioning room features, and delayed responses to your requests do not reflect the standards we aim to uphold. We also deeply regret the dining experience and the service-related issues you encountered, including the inconsistent butler service and unreliable transport. We are especially sorry to hear that your spa experience was disappointing, as this is meant to be a relaxing and rejuvenating part of your stay. We take all guest feedback seriously, and your comments have been shared with our management team for immediate review and action. It is clear that there were several aspects of your stay that fell far short of our usual standards, and we sincerely regret that your 20th-anniversary celebration was negatively impacted. When we arrived as with any AI hotel you’re told of all the amenities, everything sounded positive. The room was fine, no complaints there. We arrived around dinner, just headed to the buffet for the first night, again nothing spectacular but all ok. The usual securing of the pool beds with towels/personal items happens at 6am sometimes 5am, this all depends on other guests. Items do get cleared by staff the night before. My issue is getting into the restaurants and overall customer service. Unless you are in the diamond club rooms, with a butler it is tough to get into the restaurants. You show up at the time they open, are 3rd in line and are told they are full, even though you see half the place empty. They put your name on the waitlist and can not tell you how long it will be, so you have to keep checking every 30 mins to see if they have a table. Two places have buzzers which you think great, I don’t have to check, the issue is you’re waiting so long they run out of battery so have to keep checking anyways. We waited over an hour for each restaurant, we were 2 adults and 2 kids (8 & 10). The one place you could make a reservation for, you had to wake up at the crack of dawn to stand in line for over an hour to make the reservation. Their issue is they do not know how to manage restaurants, all they do is look busy moving tables around putting reservation signs on them, that no one ever shows up for. I stood in line and watched the manager count the same tables 3 times move them around then look at a paper and do it all again inside, while a long line of people all watched. It is the most aggravating, inefficient set up. Every guest I spoke too all said the same thing. Next up was the front desk, day 2 I asked to switch rooms for a room with two queens instead of a king and pull out, they told me my manager will have to check that, she took my room number and I never heard back. Then since my flight was delayed I asked for a late check out, I offered to pay extra for it. First they can’t tell you until the morning of, then morning of I was told someone paid specifically to stay in our room (our room had no view and was nothing special so I feel like that is their way of just saying no) so they couldn’t do a late check out. They offered a courtesy room that I would have to book I asked for 3pm, she said it is booked at 3pm but I made arrangements. We get back at 3pm and our name isn’t even on the list. End result no room offered the spa change room was all they gave us. It was very frustrating and I felt lied to by staff. They treat you as if you did something wrong for their lack of organization and mistakes. Although the beach was nice, the pool was fine I will not be returning. It’s the little things that can make or break the experience and there were too many little things that put a damper on the whole trip.

Pros-
Staff- I have to start by mentioning that the staff at Royalton Negril are very welcoming. During our 7-day stay, we did not encounter one unpleasant staff member. The staff were always eager to assist and always had a smile on their faces. I have to also take the time to advise my fellow diamond club members that our Butler Dorrett was phenomenal. She was always reaching out to make sure our needs were met. Every day, she would ensure that we had dinner reservations, bring washcloths to our room, and ensured we had everything, we needed for a stress-free vacation. My husband requests coffee every morning at a certain call and she would call us in the morning to confirm he received his coffee. She always went above and beyond which made this vacation enjoyable.

Beach -The water was warm and inviting for the entire stay, we vacationed in September; therefore, the beach was not crowded and there were lots of beach chairs available.

Cons
Food -The food was not the best. For us, this is an important aspect of our travel experience because it is a chance to experience the local cuisine. During our stay, the resort was out of Ray and nephew's white rum, which we were able to purchase outside of the resort. There also seemed to be a shortage of the national dish ackee and saltfish. Green banana, Blue Mountain coffee, and oxtail were missing or in limited supply at the buffet. I found it very interesting that food items that were not local cuisine were in great supply. I also have to mention that the jerk chicken was not very flavorful. On the bright side, Hunter Steakhouse will appease the steak lover, also Zen, which offers Asian cuisine is fantastic.

Seriously after doing the riu palace 30 seconds next door 4 times I regretted not having returned there! Jamaican women in this hotel are very jealous of other women be ready to get stared at all week! The riu palace is more than 5 stars if you hesitate I advise you the riu if you want to have a week in your expectations of Service and the beach is more beautiful to the riu also the buffet is huge and people are welcoming service to the beach drink impeccable comfortable bed air conditioning that walks bar to rooms filled we lack anything served as it should!
