We've just spent 5 days here and it was brilliant! So different from the usual hotels - the owners, James and Mary, were very welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. They arranged our trips out - rafting on the Rio Grande with lunch at Belinda's, climbing Reach Falls and James took us around Port Antonio. The property itself is on it's own private beach, with a pool and gardens. Our housekeeper was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. She was an excellent cook and the food was amazing, particularly the lobster. Can't wait to go back!

We had the please of staying at Wilks Bay for 17 days starting in late September. We travelled with our 3 year old and her Nanny. Occupying a two bedroom unit.

The location:

For those that have not been there Portland is an amazing place. The people are welcoming. The beaches particularly Frenchman’s cove in my opinion ranks in any top 10 list. This was our 3rd stay in the area and first at this property.

The property it self is located in a private bay with fantastic aquatic life. The area was recently made into a protected zone.

It’s impossible not to have a break taking view from any location on the property.

Your a short walk to two beach’s that surround the bay, and a short drive into town.

There is also a pool on site !

People:

James and Mary aim to Deliver a service experience exceeding the four seasons. They are with out exception perfect hosts.

Accommodations:

The accommodations on this property are aimed at complimenting the surroundings. Apple TV, flatscreens, and spa products are not present. What you do get is a spotless comfortable environment where everything works. AC, Water pressure, Wi-Fi, electricity etc. It’s fantastic for a family. Sheets, Towels, Linens were all good. Try and find a table cloth that is not spotless white and ironed. Dinner and breakfast every day on the patio with perfect views is something we still miss.

We felt we had a lot of space for our family, with bathrooms, bedrooms and living spaces suitable for an extended stay.

Service:

This is likely the most service oriented property we have had the pleasure of staying at. If a leaf falls on the ground or the pool it’s whisked away instantly . The staff are all friendly. Apart from food it’s hard to spend money at wilks. Laundry, no problem it’s included everyday. Want to head into town, James will likely drive you, every day if required.

Food:

Amazing, you pay cost for local fresh produce and it’s cooked to perfection. The island has a great food supply chain so chicken, lobster, fish and fresh produce create the perfect back drop for your dedicated chef ( in our case angela was a dream, we still crave her lasagna, fried and jerk chicken, key lime pie).Don’t know what you want, no problem they will help you create a menu. Have a recipe bring it along. Remember that you have a ton of flexibility, want an afternoon snack no problem it will be ready for you. We are obsessed with food. In our entire stay every meal was incredible !

Spectacular surroundings, world class service, comfort food and wonderful hosts !

This is the place to stay at Port Antonio, Portland, Jamaica. This is our first trip to Jamaica and this is absolutely a paradise. I did not expect the experience we had as a family, Jim Low and Mary treated us like one of their family friend. I never had this personalized service in my life time. Mary arranged pick-up from airport to Wilks Bay, food we eat, dining outside, qi gong exercise from Jim, to the butlers who served our meals. The jetty where we exercise is amazing, listening to the sound of the waves with your eyes close. My list will go on and on. This is the paradise in Jamaica.

Traveling to Jamaica was exciting for me in the first place, after all it was my first time out of the USA! I was told this would be an adventure and I must admit, that was the truth! I was one of seven (Natalie B already reviewed about her boyfriend's family taking her, my daughter, and me with them) staying at Wilks Bay. 5 of us shared the three bedroom unit while the other 2 had a unit to themselves next door.

We arrived late in the evening and Warren picked us up at the airport. While the drive was long and sometimes a little scary, Warren was a great driver and I felt secure with his skills!

Let me just start with this - the views are breathtaking, the grounds were SO clean, Wilks Bay was a step back in time that reminds me of Great Gatsby style beauty. The rooms are sparsly appointed, a private bath, a bed, nightstands, a small table, a chair, closet and small chest. This is not a luxury hotel room, this is a place to sleep, shower, change clothes and, of course, look out those French doors at the ocean view. Hey, I wasn't there for a fancy, schmancy room - I was there for paradise!

We had a lovely team of 4 housekeepers (Sophia, Stacy, Nadine and I cannot remember the 4th girl's name) who cooked the best meals I can recall tasting. We enjoyed spiney lobster, fried chicken, various Jamaican delights and the BEST KEY LIME PIE EVER!

I cannot forget to mention James and Mary - let's just say, I feel as if I have two new members of my family! I love how they welcomed us in to their Home and treated us like royalty. James took us on the "25 cent tour" of this part of the island and showed us the history. Mary was always caring for the fine-tuned operations and you could tell she stays on top of everything!

My only complaint would be the firm, very firm, mattresses - I'm just not accustomed to sleeping on a hard surface. But that was a small price to pay for the rest of the accomodations. I loved hearing the crashing waves at night and after the first night I even enjoyed the little frogs, as noisy as they are!

All-in-all I look forward to going back again. The time spent was too short and now I'm totally spoiled! It's difficult to decide what I miss most - playing in the ocean, swimming in the pool, learning Qi Kong with James, the food that just still has me licking my lips, the key lime pie? Well, all that and more! Next time, I'll get to see more than before.

I cannot say enough good things about Wilks Bay. It was an experience like none other.

My boyfriend and his family took my mother and I here during the middle of September 2018. At the time, I didn't think much of it beyond "Woo! Family vacation!" But it wasn't long before the real reason behind the trip was revealed and my boyfriend became my fiance.

But you don't want to hear about that! You want to know about Wilks Bay and all it's beauty, right? Well let me tell you, if you stay here you're in for quite the treat. The owners Mr. and Mrs. Lowe are just the absolute sweetest people you could ever meet. They're super helpful in making sure that your needs are met and your experience is as relaxing as possible. They've also employed some wonderful helpers that take expert care in making sure the grounds are safe, your food is amazing, your bed is made/turned down, and your view is always stunning. The ladies behind all the wonderful meals spoiled my family and I relentlessly with some of the most delicious dishes. My favorites were the fried chicken (get lost KFC!) and the most amazing, melt in your mouth, oh-my-God-I-died-and-went-to-heaven key lime pie we've ever tasted. (Seriously, can I just have that as my wedding cake?)

If you're looking for the chance to take some amazing selfies, Wilks Bay will cater to those needs too! The grounds are filled with beauty around every corner. Whether it's the beautiful hibiscus flower swaying in the breeze or the waves crashing up onto the dock, I'm sure you'll find some incredible photo opportunities to make you Instagram famous!

Honestly, after such a wonderful time there... I can't really imagine staying anywhere else.
