My daughter and I wanted to have an "adventure" and I found Great Huts. I couldn't have asked for a better experience. The staff was warm and wonderful. We enjoyed the Saturday evening cultural event. It was hard to leave...I actually extended a day because...More
Located just outside of port Antonio, it is very close to Frenchman's cove, Winifred beach, the blue lagoon and reach falls. The huts are great, bamboo made and some of them have sand as a floor. Actually the door is not lockable but there is...More
This was my second visit to Great Huts and to describe it as memorable would be understatement of the year. As a resident of Jamaica and one who works in the hospitality industry, I was keen to take some visiting friends to Portland and experience...More
I'm a local and my cousin and I took a spontaneous trip to Portland and were looking for somewhere to stay for the night. We did check out a couple of guest houses on the way, they were very nice...basic but nice. Finally we stumbled...More
After spending a couple days at a nice (but typical) hostel in Kingston, my friends and I were looking for something a little more upscale but also had island charm. Boy did we hit the jackpot with the Great Huts!! The resort is comprised of...More

Just got back from Great Huts...wonderful place... know what you are booking with respect to the outdoors and nature but they also have the new Africana House with it's own shared kitchen ..large entrance hall with wonderful African art and 4 seperate accommodations with a/c.. they are all beautiful as are the huts... the views are tremendous wherever you stay. You are never far from a spectacular moment.
We ate pretty much every night there and enjoyed everything from salads to pizza to goat curry...loved it all... 10 dollars for a Chef salad..15 for a regular pizza (Jamaican style) plus whatever toppings..other dishes up to about 25 dollars... and I thought that was really fair considering the location... the ambience and service... if you have any particular requests just ask ...everyone was really helpful...I look at some of the reviews who may have criticised the food... I don't buy it...order in advance for evening meals about an hour or so... breakfast was great too and included in the price... just ask for more of anything ... and it was given with a smile and friendliness ...
Just outside is the famed Boston Jerk ... take a look.. chat with the owners and don't just walk by and ignore them... they're gonna want you to eat at their places and can be intimidating if you have never experienced it... towards the end of our stay though... a guy from one of the Jerk Stands said to me..." hey man I see you most days.. we never really talked..why don't you come in for a drink..no charge..no push.. so I did..and had a great time... typical for this part of Jamaica and my experience of Jamaica as a whole
Beautiful people..beautiful country
I had the time of my life there... Oh and the owner creator Dr Paul Rhodes... speak with him too if you go... the guy is a genius.
