This boutique Hotel on McCleary is GEM!. Only a short 1 Block 5 minute walk to the wide beach of Ocean Park. The rooms are clean, air conditioned and attended to regularly. The Front desk staff (especially Jessica) are super helpful, getting towels ,chairs etc. And then there is the restaurant. Although there are many choices within walking distance we chose to enjoy a dinner and a Sunday brunch!!!

Many things to love about this hotel, but the service really stood out. Our flights were delayed due to the big winter storms in late December, and we arrived a day late and after midnight. The hotel was so accommodating! When we arrived, the night desk clerk personally showed us to our rooms, and then, because the restaurant was closed, offered us some of her own dinner. Of course we declined, but it was so sweet of her to offer! The desk staff during the day were also very helpful; our flight to Vieques was canceled and they helped us to figure alternate transit. We had two rooms, a king with balcony and a junior suite. The king with balcony was very comfortable, and even though it overlooked the courtyard, the room was very quiet with the AC on. Our adult kids had the junior suite and said it was huge. We really enjoyed breakfast at the restaurant, the neighborhood was filled with cute little cafés and bakeries, and the beach a block away was beautiful. Wish we could’ve stayed longer!

After two days of marching in San Juan, accidentally wandered into this hotel! And miraculously, they had the same number! Not only is the hotel perfect for its cleanliness, comfort, location, but the attitude of the staff is beyond praise! At first, we got a slightly noisy number because of the pool compressor working... The next day, after applying to the reception we had no problem changing the number and it was even bigger and better! The hotel has parking (although charged for $20 per day) , gorgeous convertible beach loungers and towels! The beach is one of the best in Puerto Rico! In a word, bravo! Clearly advised!

The staff on our first and last day were very friendly, the location is good, and the bed was comfortable, but that's about all the good I can say about this hotel. Lots of little things add up to a not great hotel experience. First we realized that we couldn't open the bathroom door without hitting the counter, everything was cramped into our room. There was a dresser and a hanging rack for clothes, but even with only a few days worth of things it was hard to fit it all. There was a table on only one side of the bed, which was inconvenient for 2 people. The blinds were stuck and difficult to open and close. Our window opened to the restaurant/"pool" area and somehow the conversations there seemed amplified. There was noise in that area every night past 11pm, and 2 mornings before 6am. We couldn't hear it in the hall but in our room we could hear every single word from that area. The restaurant at one point had a DJ out there playing loud music for 5 hours and each time I looked out the window there were 0 people out there even enjoying the music. Hotel staff told me there was nothing they could do since the restaurant is independently owned. The bathroom had no exhaust fan or window, and is slightly elevated above the room, so water would drip from the bathroom into the room. The shower had a fixed glass plate that covered about half of the shower so no way to keep water in. The toilet paper is situated on the wall where the shower opens up, so it would get wet during a shower. The sink was leaking somewhere, though I didn't see where, but when I'd wash my hands everything around the sink was wet. The power outlets only worked sporadically. The TV had a roku but there was no way to tell which subscriptions they had. We were able to access Netflix and Hulu and thankfully YouTube, as we needed background music to try and drown out all of the conversations/music/squealing/yelling in the restaurant/pool area. They do have coffee in the lobby area but they didn't tell us about that area. It's off to the side and up until that point we thought it was just the manager's office. We discovered it ourselves on the third day. Not a huge deal but the sign says they'll only replace towels on the floor to be environmentally friendly, but each time our room was cleaned the replaced all of the towels, even the ones we had hung up. They didn't seem to bother with cleaning the floor though. Any one of these issues alone can be no big deal, but all together it just was a place that makes no sense.

We were disappointed that such an expensive hotel had small rooms, no elevator, no coffeemaker, and generally nothing special. We paid around $300, which honestly seemed crazy for what we got.
The staff was helpful. We had an early flight, so cannot report on breakfast.
It was almost a mile walk to the more touristy areas of Condado. We recommend Anita's Gelato, about a km away, but expect a long wait; we waited 30 minutes.

We had to make a last-minute change because the place we had booked months prior notified us that there was no longer parking available. This had also happened to us in San Juan a year ago and we had to park 10 minutes away on a street with broken auto glass everywhere. So because this was highly reviewed and was an Expedia VIP Access property, we booked it. What a delight the front desk girl is! It was after midnight and we were leaving at 8:30 in the morning, so she said we could just park for free in front of the hotel, which was watched over all night by a security guard who opened the door for us. She was bright and chipper and made us our welcome drink - his with rum, mine without. My feet were swollen from the flight, so I was delighted to discover the plunge pool to literally cool my heels. I'm not usually a fan of the modern aesthetic, but I loved the decor. My big guy loved the tall ceilings. I think they were 13' - even in the big shower! Yes, the water isn't as hot as Americans prefer, but we have found that to be pretty consistent when visiting Puerto Rico. The location is excellent being a block from the beach and close to Condado Lagoon for Night Kayaking and an easy drive to Old San Juan. We were sorry that we had to leave before the nice attached cafe opened, as it looked good, too.

We had the privilege of staying here for quite some time while in the process of moving. The staff is extremely accommodating.
The decor of the rooms and the outdoor areas are inviting, with a minimalistic, yet colorful look that makes it feel clean and chic. We also enjoyed the restaurant, Dulcesalado, usually eating there at least 3 times a week. The checkout of steamers, beach chairs, and beach towels makes things very easy as far as packing goes. They do have bikes for checkout, but I was too scared to bike as roads are pretty exciting on the island!
Tropica is conveniently located steps away from one of the nicest Ocean Park beach areas and is also just one street over from Calle Loiza, the main hub for Ocean Park cuisine.
Parking is valet, and $13 per day, but if you are vacationing just around the San Juan area, I really see no need for a car.

This was a nice gem of a lodging. I read complaints about many expensive hotels which were aging poorly and had issues. Tropica is a fairly new property located at the eastern edge of Condado and only a block from the beach. It is a ½ mile walk to restaurants and entertainment and only a few blocks in the other direction to stores and clubs. The hotel is small, with only around 30 rooms. The staff knows everyone staying there and is very friendly. The room was nice, clean and well appointed. For a two night stay leading up to a cruise, it was perfect.
There are some things you should know. The hotel is spread across 3 small buildings which were former residences. Rooms come in all shapes and sizes. Some have nice windows, some have tiny portholes, and some rooms have no windows at all. Call ahead and let the staff know your preference. The buildings are 3 stories, and there is no elevator, so keep this in mind if it is an issue. The pool is a “plunge pool”, slightly larger than a hot tub – good for a dip but don’t plan on doing laps. The nearby beach is real nice. Unfortunately, it rained the day we planned to go swimming. There is a restaurant on the property, but I found it to be a bit too fancy and pricey for my liking.
One concern I had was that there was only one stairway leading to the second and third floor rooms. If a fire broke out on the first floor, you will not get out. I do notice such things, but it may not bother you. If it does, stay on the first floor.

This is by far one of the cutest, cleanest and stylish boutique hotels in the San Juan area, it is in a prime location with restaurants, shops and the beach within a one block either way area. The staff goes above and beyond, and are always attentive and available to meet any need. Highly recommend! You will not be disappointed!

Very nice staff Cute place, very nicely decorated in the common areas and the room we were in I requested an interior room and never had an issue with noise (Room 322) Full length mirror (very important but you would be surprised how many rooms I've been in that don't have one) Comfortable beds and nice sheets Smart TV that I could connect my phone too Netflix , etc available on TV The Bar at the adjoining restaurant had amazing cocktails and the staff was so nice. Beach towels on request Some really great restaurants/coffee shops in the area No phone but communication with hotel was all done via texts which was fine but make sure you share the number with any other people sharing your room so that they don't have to only depend on you to communicate- this was only an issue because while we were there there were water issues...
The not so good but doesn't impact my rating:
The water company that services the area shut down water to the hotel for 5 out of the 7 days I was there. I'm not clear on whether the hotel was aware that this was going to happen ahead of time but bc it impacted the whole area I can't fault the hotel. I will say though, that if they knew ahead of time, they should have notified people with reservations. I can't imagine that a water company could do something like this unless it was an emergency but it wasn't clearly communicated why this was happening, just that it was happening. The hotel had water tanks so, for the most part this didn't impact us, but there were a few times where it did.
The not so good:
One outlet between two double beds. I'm not sure how this was missed but you will likely have at least two, if not four people sleeping in two double beds so having only one outlet (there was a USB port in the lamp that was plugged into the outlet but it was only 1 USB port...so still same problem). Most people like to have their phones within reaching distance of them when they are in bed. I would recommend adding an outlet power strip to rooms that have a similar design.
The lighting. This will only matter if you are a person who wants to put on makeup after the sun has gone down because natural lighting was great but once it was dark outside, the lighting in the bathroom and near the full length mirror was so bad. Bring some sort of lighting source if this matters to you.
I think more hooks in the bathroom and room would be nice to have but I feel that way about most places..

Hi!
This hotel is located on Ocean Park Beach area. The beach is essentially 1 block away. Really nice local beach! The area is pretty nice and the strip that it is on is pretty modernized. I think it's still Santurce. One block over are plenty of restaurants bars Walgreens McDonald's etc. Not as modernized but okay. We walked around with no problem. We also rented a car which was great because everything was pretty close by ie San Juan, airport, Isla Verde, La Carolinas etc. Hope this helped.
There are more places to choose from in the San Juan area.
