The Hotel Palacia Provincial was a perfect first stop for our birthday trip in Old San Juan. The hotel is part of the Hilton Curio collection brand. The historic building conversion is well-designed, and we enjoyed our king suite room. The trendy rooftop bar and pool deck is a great place to get a unique view of the historic district streets and the domes of the large 16th century cathedral next door. Our room was very spacious with two ceiling fans, 15+ foot ceilings and windows, mini fridge, Molton Brown brand of soaps, shampoos, and lotions, and a peaceful courtyard orientation with no street noise.

We were there during the Three Kings Holiday (January 6th), which is as big as Christmas, and we were lucky to see the procession of the three kings next door while exploring the church and all of the holiday lights at night in the nearby squares still up during our visit. The narrow blue cobblestone streets throughout Old San Juan, can be hilly, so wear comfortable flat shoes. Do not try to rent a car in Old .San Juan-there is not hotel parking lot or convenient parking options according to other travelers we spoke with first hand. We walked everywhere for 3 days, and then took an Uber on the third day to our next hotel in Condado Beach. The hotel is also an easy walk to the historic El Moro fort maintained by the National Park Service. The hotel also offers a beach access partnership with another hotel (access by taxi), but we did not use this perk during our visit.

Our Hilton Diamond Honors status was acknowledged at check in by the staff members, who surprised me with a room upgrade and a thoughtful birthday balloon. Diamond members also have access to complimentary continental breakfast at the hotel restaurant, but a full menu is offered for an extra cost. We also had a good dinner there on Three Kings Day holiday night when most nearby restaurants were closed. There is also supermarket and pharmacy located nearby.

Highly recommend this hotel for convenience to Old San Juan historic sights and exploring the neighborhood at your leisure.

Everything my wife and I wanted to see and do in Old San Juan was within easy walking distance so this hotel is really in an ideal location. We liked the look and feel of the property especially the grand staircase and covered veranda area in front of the rooms. The open air nature of the property really highlights the warm temperatures and encourages you to sit outside and enjoy the environment. We found our room to be comfortable and clean. The bathroom was modern and the shower was large with good water pressure. The room could use more light and the bathroom lighting is equally dim. All the employees were encountered were very helpful and friendly. Make sure to ask for restaurant/bar recommendations. The front desk also arranged for a taxi to take us back to the airport.

During our two night stay, our bathroom towels consisted only of large bath sized towels and while we asked about smaller hand towels, none ever appeared. Also the shower door leaked a large amount of water on the bathroom floor - - more annoying than a problem. The message light on our phone blinked from the moment we arrived and despite our efforts to retrieve/delete voicemails, the light continued to flash. I asked the very friendly gentleman at the front desk but he was not sure what to do and when we checked out, the message light was still flashing. These items were too minor to impact our stay and my wife and I would completely recommend this hotel. One word of advice - we enjoyed a couple of beers at the hotel restaurant/bar and were a bit shocked that each bottle of beer was $10 but at least it was cold !! We did not return to the bar/restaurant as there are a great number of nearby places to drink and dine.

Curio Hotels can be hit or miss, and this one was a miss for me.

The hotel is incredibly well-situated for a stay in Old San Juan. You don't need a car here because the location is compact and walkable, yet congested and busy.

I arrived during the first week of December, and the entirety of Old San Juan had Christmas decorations and lights, but sadly the hotel had none ... until it started decorating during a December weekend. I had to step over decorations strewn about on stairs midday. Ridiculous and dangerous.

I did not receive the room that I booked - 1 Queen - but instead was placed in a cramped room with 2 Q beds on a busy and noisy corner. The room itself had IKEA quality furnishings - battered and chipped - shoved into corners with insufficient room to walk around. A Hilton Tru has better furniture and room layouts.

While staff tried, service was inconsistent as was the food. Wonderful on one day and dismal on the next.

An average rating is probably generous given the prices charged here, but the location is great and the hotel is unique. I've recommended a visit to San Juan to three different couples, noting they should avoid this hotel, which is my recommendation... Avoid this hotel.

After our first night in OSJ in an unsatisfactory Airbnb, we took a chance on the Palacio Provincial and were delighted. The desk personnel were very kind and welcoming. Though the rate was not inexpensive, we were happy to spend three nights in such a beautiful building, enjoying a comfortable room (225) and onsite amenities, from the rooftop bar to the gorgeous interior patio. The two queen beds were quite plush, with pillow tops and good linens (I loved the pillows, for a change!). The climate control worked well and we didn’t hear much street noise, though we were on the front. There was plenty of hot water in the spacious, modern bathroom. The only negative was the $$$ weekend brunch; there are more affordable breakfast choices (like Cuatro Sombras) nearby. The hotel website provides fascinating info about the grand structure’s history. We would definitely stay here again.

I was excited to travel to San Juan and about the location of the hotel. And for a fact, the location is amazing!
But unfortunately my experience was partially disappointing. Arriving to the hotel, entering the room, I found the mirror really dirty, it had not been cleaned in a long time, same as the sliding glass bathroom door. I notified the front desk about both right after check-in, but no action was taken, only the next day after I asked about it a second time. Small details like a not properly set time on the clock in the room, finding a hair rubber from previous guests in my bed or room keys that were not working several times in a row didn't make the experience any better. Two days later we went on a full day excursion, left the hotel for almost 9 hours, just to come back to a room that was not cleaned all day. Had to wait outside until the room was done, but not even any kind of compensation for the wait was offered, no coffee, drinks or anything else. Only when I asked specifically about what can be done to receive a better service, a free breakfast for the next day was offered. Finally, when we went to pay for our incidentals, we were not presented a folio and it was not even mentioned that the card on file was already charged. I would have expected to at least get a chance to review my final bill and decide if my friend and I can split the charges, but no service as such was offered at all. And on top of that, the front desk agent was arguing that no guest in years ever asked for their final folio and that they would just charge the guest's card on file in the morning of departure as standard procedure to put pressure on their guests for payment. If the guest saw their folio or not, wasn't important to them. Again, disappointing for the price we paid and expecting better service in a "Preferred" hotel.

We just spent two nights at this delightful elegant hotel in the center of Old San Juan. We arrived by cab and our checkin process was fast and easy. The staff was efficient and friendly. Our room was spotless, well-kept and extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the high ceilings with exposed wood beams and the huge doors that opened to look over the side street. They have a respect and embrace of the history of the location seamlessly mixed with modern amenities and convenience. We had ample linens and pillows, plenty of hot water and a very comfortable bed. We only ate one breakfast at the bar/grill. The food was good and not overly pricey. I would not have been shocked that an omelette would cost $20 or more in such a classy hotel- it did not, I had a full breakfast with all the fixings for much less.
We enjoyed the dual courtyards in the center of the building and the roof-top, vanishing edge pool was clean warm and beautiful. We were within easy walking distance to all the historic sites, food and drink and entertainment. We did not rent, nor need a car in Old San Juan. I would go so far to discourage getting a car as it appeared that trying to find a place to park would be impossible on the tiny stone streets.
The best word I can use to describe the Palacio Provincial is effortless”. It was just so easy to be there and use that hotel as our home base for exploring. We didn’t fully appreciate the stay until we had relocated to elsewhere on the island for the remainder of our week vacation. The Hotel Palacio Provincial had spoiled us.

Clean, comfortable and overall excellent place to stay. We stayed in the Deputy room (2 queens). It was a little difficult to find at first because the part of the street that the entrance was on was closed to vehicles. All the staff, from the reception desk to the cleaning crew, were friendly and eager to help out with anything we needed. We had left a note for ourselves to ask for more towels and shampoo, but it was taken care of before we even got the chance to bring it up. The pool was beautiful, and the drinks were good as well. The location was perfect, and we were in walking distance of almost everything that we wanted to do. I would definitely stay here again!

Pros: The hotel itself is stunningly beautiful and I couldn’t have asked for a better location. They have a stunning lounge room with computer access, a bar and restaurant a small gym and rooftop pool. It’s very beautiful and clean. The beds were super comfortable and the rooms were a good size. The drinks were good. When you check in they do try and make your experience extra sweet with some free ice cream cups (a cute touch but a little freezer burned). This was a pretty quiet hotel and we didn’t have any noise issues even though there was a protest down the street- couldn’t hear much.

Cons: When we got there, our room wasn’t clean and they told us they would call us when it was ready. We waited and waited and waited and finally just decided to check and clearly they forgot to call us because the room had been ready. That was annoying but they gave us two free drink tickets for the trouble.

When we got into our room it was super hot because the air conditioning was broken but they sent someone in right away who was able to fix the issue.

I think the biggest issues I had was that the maids will refuse to clean your room unless you tip them on a daily basis. I suppose I didn’t know that and wish it was posted somewhere because on many occasions I had to ask for fresh towels and for them to empty my trash. Once I started putting 5.00 on the bed they would clean.

Food was okay but not the best and not a great selection. They also don’t have a vending machine which sucks… no snacks or soda available and good luck finding a local walkable restaurant that serves food after 12am. I would recommend grabbing snacks for your hotel at the supermarket which is down the street. The hotel does have a fridge but you’d have to ask the front desk to warm up any food because they don’t have a microwave in the room.

Overall the hotel was beautiful and I would absolutely stay again knowing what I know now.

This is not a cheap hotel, so when one pays a lot, one expects a lot, so let's get the negatives over first.
'When we entered the hotel, no-one came and helped us with our bags, either to get into the hotel or to go to our room.
For most of our stay, our room wasn't serviced until the end of the afternoon, when we returned from our day out, to get ready for dinner. Not convenient. My husband eventually complained, and for the last couple of days it was cleaned at about 1:00.
The website states that there is a concierge - not true. The receptionists have to fulfill that role and are not necessarily very helpful. Thank goodness for the internet.
The website also notes that there is a relationship with a hotel with beach access, but you have to take a cab to get there.
The food in the restaurant is quite good, but the service is very slow. The wait staff are also exceedingly slow at clearing the tables, sometime almost an hour - not very hygienic, and certainly unsightly and unwelcoming. The tables themselves are very shabby, and the upholstery on the couches is coming apart at the seams - not what one expects in a high end hotel.
However, the personnel were all pleasant, friendly and mostly helpful.

First, the location amazing! Perfectly close to everything in old San Juan! Room is a great size, beds are very comfortable, bathroom size is good too! Closets are great so is dresser. Also has a table with 2 chairs which is very convenient. Things I did not like…they lose power here quite regularly so their generator turns on and basically was right above our room so it was very noisy!!! The rooms are VERY dark due to lack of a true window. You have double doors with a small area to open a shutter. Lighting in the room is horrible except in the bathroom. Barely any outlets in the room worked including the only one in the bathroom which made it hard to get ready. I Called to have them fix it, it was two days and they only fixed the one in the bathroom. Problems with housekeeping coming near 6 pm. Unacceptable. Then the towel issues. Some days we got 2 bath towels and nothing else. The next day six hand towels 1 bath towel no wash cloths. I was constantly asking for washcloths! Some nights they bring you chocolates for nightcap then no show. Same with towels for the pool. No pool towels. Said they’d be there in 5 mins never came. Sometimes they leave 2 waters in the room with housekeeping sometimes they don’t. Just no consistency! Service is as slow as molasses. Food was good quality. Lots of employees just hanging out talking.
