The Hilton Garden Inn San Juan Condado garners praise for its spotless premises and strategic location close to attractions and beaches, making it a hit with many guests. While the hotel's recent renovations have enhanced the elegance of its atmosphere and rooms, some guests have experienced issues with room maintenance and temperature control. Service has been a point of contention, with reports of long waits and unresponsive staff.
Amenities like the beautiful pool are popular, though some visitors have encountered a lack of loungers. Moreover, the value proposition has been questioned due to perceived high costs and additional charges.

I really loved this hotel and the amenities! The pool is lovely and I love that there is a large area with comfortable daybeds and loungers overlooking the lagoon. Also the woman at reception who helped me (didn’t catch her name) was so friendly and lovely. You can sometimes see manatees in the lagoon behind the hotel, which is pretty cool! Also really appreciated that you have free access to the sister hotel across the street. Their pool area over there is a different vibe (more like an all inclusive kind of design, vs the more modern pool area at the Hilton Garden Inn) - I really liked both. The sister hotel also has direct access to a beach that you can swim at (unlike most of the beaches in that area, as the currents are too dangerous). This beach is sheltered by rocks so it’s much more calm water. You also get free access to loungers and umbrellas at this beach. The only negative to note is I felt my room wasn’t cleaned very well, as there were lots of hairs on the bathroom floor and in the shower. I’m big on cleanliness so it left me a bit uneasy, however the sheets were clean, so that’s most important.
The other thing I’ll note (I don’t hold it against the hotel itself) is the restaurant on site had horrible service. I was eating solo and it took 2.5 hours from start to finish for me to order, eat, and pay. I was exhausted from my travels and I really just wanted a quick dinner, so it was painful having it take that long. It was about 40 minutes until someone took my order, and I had to actually go up and ask them to because no one came by my table. Not sure if some of the staff were new, but I watched many tables around me (including myself) get the wrong orders, etc. Would suggest eating somewhere else for dinner.
Overall, would stay here again!
Also: not sure why it says permanently closed on Google, I just stayed here this week (Feb 3,2025). Unless they literally just permanently closed days ago, but I would guess that’s an error?

Our six-night stay was great despite some minor issues. We arrived around noon, knowing check-in was not until 4 p.m., hoping to get into our room. Diane informed us that the hotel was overbooked, and we didn’t have a room. She passed us off to the manager, Jessica, who found us a better room and we checked in immediately. After settling in, we realized the air conditioning was not working properly. The room had dual thermostats, one would not turn off, and the other would not turn on. Three engineers arrived and discovered the air was improperly connected. Fernando found us another, even bigger room a few doors down. This room was great. Our next surprise occurred when we arrived for breakfast to be told we could only have the Continental items unless we paid $15 for the hot items. This disappointing breakfast was a real bummer since we paid extra to have breakfast included. When our son went to breakfast later, they told him he was not entitled to anything. He complained and they rectified, informing him he could eat anything he wanted. We confirmed we had a full breakfast included and for the next five days, we enjoyed the complete range of options. The hotel was remodeled about two years ago and it is clean. It is conveniently located and the sister hotel across the street provides access to the beach. The fitness center is handy, and the two restaurants serve tasty food. The chaos at this hotel may come from understaffing, being we stayed over the New Year’s holiday. There was almost always a long line at the reception, meaning that anytime we needed anything, we had to wait. We made reservations for a 7 p.m. New Year’s Eve dinner after being told the restaurant would close at 8 p.m. due to the major party being held at the hotel. The restaurant canceled our reservation and closed early. On our final night, we tried to be seated at the same restaurant, being told the wait would be about 25 minutes. We left a phone number, and when we returned, we were told there was a two-hour wait. Despite the minor hiccups, we would stay here again. The staff, namely Manuel, Diane, Jessica, and Fernando, along with the other whose names we don’t recall, were courteous and ready to help with anything we needed.

Overall we were happy with our stay but when we come back to PR we will likely stay elsewhere. Location- we could walk to some restaurants for lunch, it was a quick uber into Old San Juan, didn't take us long to get to and from the airport. I do wish we had access to a larger beach. My fault for not realizing that the beach (shared with the sister property Condado Plaza) is a public beach. It is not a large beach so was crowded early on. We never went to the beach because it was just not appealing for me to sit so close to others. Pool- beautiful but small pool with relaxing music. The chairs were not gobbled up by 8am as we have experienced at other hotels (including the sister property across the street). The pool across the street was larger and more exciting but if you didn't claim chairs first thing in the morning you were out of luck. We went a few times after lunch and sat in chairs where people had left towels but never came back. I would watch the chair for an hour and if they didn't return, we would sit there. I figured if they came back, I would move but they never did. Rooms- Our room was updated and very clean. No mold or anything in the bathroom as others have mentioned. The elevators were quick. We had a room facing the lagoon which was supposed to be quieter. We were not bothered by any noise so I would suggest lagoon side rooms. The housekeeping staff were great. Very polite and accomodating. Food- we only at breakfast once at the hotel and it was $15 for continental buffet $25 for buffet that included eggs and waffles. Probably standard for hotels but more than we wanted to spend each day. It did seem like some people had breakfast included in their room rate. We did not. We had lunch at the Condado Plaza poolside one day. $20 for chicken fingers. And very slow service but service is slow pretty much everywhere we went to eat. I suppose I should relax more but I don't want lunch to take 2 hours. I want to be outside enjoying the weather. Gym- Small but had what my husband and daughter wanted.

I had the pleasure of staying for 2 nights during a very busy weekend with Comic-con in town, Spring Break and a Holiday Weekend.
Our room was ready at 4 pm and there was small line, but we checked in quick. Front desk attendants were informative, kind and cordial. I declined their Hilton Honors offer but may take it up at a later date. I did notice that there were a few guests that stated they arrived before 12pm even though they had full knowledge of the check-in time (4 pm).
The room was a new product as the hotel was recently inaugurated as a Hilton Garden Inn in December 2023. Housekeeping was superb and there were no issues with cleanliness.
The location is spectacular as you are about 7 minutes from Old San Juan and the airport.
We ate off property but there are breakfast and dinner restaurants on property as well as a pool overlooking the lagoon. I would probably pay a little bit more next time to stay with a lagoon view.
Due to its proximity and being a very busy tourist area, there was some noise as expected. But, being out most of the day, we slept like rocks on the new mattresses.
Next time I'm in town, I will definitely book a reservation here. There are some growing pains with a new property and this is totally acceptable. This means we will have an even better experience on our next visit!

On August 5th, I encountered discriminatory behavior from multiple staff members at the Ohrno Barbacoa Moderna and Azahar Modern Tasca restaurants. I spoke with one of the male staff at the Hilton front desk to request plastic utensils for my partner and I to eat food that we had purchased by the pool. I was told by the Hilton male front desk staff to request the utensils at the Ohrno Barbacoa Moderna restaurant. I walked over to the Ohrno Barbacoa Moderna restaurant bar and purchased two drinks for my partner and I, then I asked the server Bruno for plastic utensils. Bruno stated that they do not have any plastic utensils, which I thought was a little strange for a restaurant not to have plastic utensils for their patrons. Therefore, I asked Bruno if I could use their silverware, which he responded, “No, you cannot take the silverware.” I walked back to the Hilton front desk and spoke with the female supervisor to inform her what had occurred. She instructed me to speak with Luiz, the supervisor of the Ohrno Barbacoa Moderna and Azahar Modern Tasca restaurants. Luiz was sitting at the bar at the Azahar Modern Tasca. I approached Luiz and asked can I speak with him regarding what occurred at Ohrno. He was very rude, unprofessional, and stated “What?” After I described what had happened, he stated, “we do not have plastic utensils” and “no, you cannot use the silverware.” I requested to speak with his manager which Luiz responded, “I don’t know.” As if all of a sudden, he could not comprehend my English. So, I repeated, “Can I speak to your manager?” I also requested the contact information for his manager which he became very dismissive, stating loudly “NO,” and walked away.
I shared what had happened with Luiz with the female supervisor at the Hilton front desk, she apologized for what occurred. I requested to speak with a Hilton hotel manager to address the discriminatory behavior and the unprofessional interaction. The female supervisor called Jose, the manager from the Hilton hotel that was located across the street. Jose arrived with utensils and apologized for the interaction. He stated that he did not have the contact information for the manager of the Ohrno Barbacoa Moderna and Azahar Modern Tasca restaurants, however he stated he would have a “talk with Luiz.”
I thanked Jose and walked back to the pool. As I walked back to the pool, I observed Bruno, the server from the restaurant, bringing another patron who was not Black, food and black plastic utensils. I approached Bruno and stated, “You told me a moment ago that the restaurant does not have any plastic utensils.” He responded, “I’m sorry, Luiz, the manager told me to tell you that.” And he walked away. A white couple next to us, heard the interaction and stated, “they have a draw full of plastic utensils. I am not sure of why they lied to you.”

We checked in on 01/03/2025 for 2 nights with 2 rooms. We arrived late and were taken care of by Chris at the Front Desk.
He checked us in and gave us 2 rooms Bay View side of the property. One room was great; however, unfortunately the other one had air conditioning issues. We did have to switch one of the rooms and we were given 881 (our other guests had a room on the 5th Floor). Chris was very kind through the switch and was very cordial, pleasant and friendly.
881 is a great room. The Air Conditioning worked great, which was the first good sign. This is a corner room and has a wall of windows. It also has a very large balcony. It is on the Ocean side of the hotel (street side). There is a building right in front of you; however, spectacular ocean views to the left or right.
The room is great. It was very clean, nice white tile floor, soft comfortable bed, coffeemaker, refrigerator, desk, large television, plenty of outlets and USB/MicroUSB ports. The bathroom is small; however, nicely remodeled.
They put a lot of money into remodeling this property, you can tell.
The only downside to 881 is that you may hear some street noise from louder cars and car radios.
As a Diamond member, your stay includes continental breakfast which is yogurt, bread, bagels, pastries, fruit. You can upgrade for about $12 to other hot items on the buffet. We opted for only the continental.
We tried the restaurant for dinner, and it was spectacular. Sitting outside in the evening, when the weather was just perfet! Our server was Victor, who took care of us and was a wonderfully pleasant gentleman. To our surprise, the food was GREAT! Let's be honest, sometimes hotel restaurants leave a lot to be desired; however, this one was awesome. The table shared a lot of different items. all of which were great.
So, this property is highly rated by me. The only reason for the 1 star downgrade is the air in the first room assigned to us, which should have been reported by housekeeping; however, was not.
I would likely return again in the future.

I was expecting a lot more from a Hilton property than what we received. The 1st problem was the wait for the room to be ready for check in, I was told they would text me when it was ready but I found out through my Hilton Honors App. 2nd problem was once we did receive our room we discovered that the shower had no cold water at all and it was scalding hot. The front desk found another room for us at 11 pm and we moved all of our belongings to that room. We had booked a 2 queen bed room but they had to give us a king with a sofa bed. 3rd problem, Of course there was no pillow, blanket or sheets for the sofa bed in the room so I had to make 3 trips down to the front desk around midnight to have them brought to me. After all of that, the front desk said they would credit all of the resort fees due to the inconvenience. Of course that didn’t happen. Bottom line is if they treat Gold Hilton Honors members like this then I wouldn’t want to see how non members are treated. I will never stay at this property again and they need a lot of work to live up to a true Hilton experience that we have had in the past. Don’t expect much for breakfast either in their restaurant. We were told 15 dollars for the hot portion of breakfast and when the check came it was 25…..

This was the worst run hotel I think I've ever been to. Older property so the guest rooms are a bit on the small side but that was the highlight of our stay. This place is not as advertised. They advertise its on a secluded beach so you have the impression its on a oceanfront beach but its not--you can see the ocean but you can't access it from the hotel as its more like a lagoon & the beach itself is very narrow. We were unable to get a beach chair at the pool or the beach as they didn't have enough chairs for all the guests & the chairs/lounges they had were old, beat up & in some cases--rusty ($42 a day resort fee). It was an hour wait to get seated at the restaurant for breakfast as only 1 on-site restaurant was open for breakfast. WE attended the New Year's Eve gala at almost $300 each & that was not as advertised either. It was an hour wait to get in as you had to show ID & the ticket on your phone had to be scanned but they only had 2 people admitting people so although it started at 8:30--we didn't get in until 9:30 & guess what--they were out of food except for a few side dishes. The open bar had only a few choices (no gin) and when I asked for a slice of lemon for my vodka--the bartended said they had no fruit. The band was very good but that was about it. Avoid this place as its a waste of $$.

We stayed in the Hilton Garden on both sides of our cruise. I wouldn’t do it again. 1. The only hotel I’ve visited where you can stand at the front desk and the staff member doesn’t look up and offer to assist. This happened on every occasion. 2. Terrible odor throughout the building - strongest in our first bathroom shower. Smelled like sewer. 3. Toilet didn’t work well in 2nd room. 4. Both rooms very loud - could hear rooms next door and hallway traffic. 5. Breakfast was terrible and expensive -$50 for cold buffet for 2. 6. At the pool on the premises, some of the nicer seating areas are for additional charge. Like I said, I wouldn’t do it again.

BED BUGS I am writing this after trying to reach out to someone higher up in Hilton from corporate to management at the hotel to no avail. First of all I had reached out and notified the hotel of bed bugs and front desk tells me "ok ill let management know" and hangs up -.- . Anyways me and my girlfriend chose to stay here for our 2 year anniversary. It being a more pricey resort in a good area we thought why not, I have personally stayed at multiple Hiltons in the past with no problems so this came to me as a surprise. We booked a 6 day trip. I noticed through the 2nd night into our stay that i had multiple bites on me but had fell asleep on the beach earlier that same day, thinking they were mosquito bites which was normal for me being from Florida I thought nothing of it, fast forward to our last day the bites had multiplied. While leaving all day I was itching until we got back home and seen that I had multiple scattered bites all over my upper body. I didn't want to believe that it was true it was bed bugs but it definitely turned out to be. Most of the staff did not seem to want to help us resolve the problem as well. Other issues we had as-well was the fire alarm going off randomly throughout the night for 2 of the nights being there and staff being quite rude and unwelcoming throughout it all. We will NEVER be staying here or any Hilton properties again.
