Good thing first: pool area is excellent, front desk staff is very friendly and helpful, waiters during breakfast were also very friendly and helpful.

Not so good things:
- pool towels are very limited. We were a group with 5 kids in total and we had to share 2 towels. Every time we went to the pool, there were only 2-3 towels available for the whole area.
- bar staff was not friendly at all, no staff through the pool area so if you wanted a drink you had to go inside to get it. Beers were not that cold, mainly room temperature.
- breakfast is OK, french toast wa a bit tough.
- room 221 is kept insanely cold due to humidity problems.

Had to see the west side of the island, so I decided to spend the night at the HI Mayaguez. It’s right off of Highway 2, the main route leading into the city itself, very easy to find.

Check in was fine. The woman spoke excellent English which was very helpful. Hotel and my room were very clean. Comfortable bed and decent water pressure from shower, a rarity these days.

There is a nice pool outside, fairly large so I could easily swim. There’s also a basketball hoop and a bar area, though that part wasn’t open.

I did eat at the restaurant, nothing major just appetizers. Service was fine.

The on site casino was very tempting, but I did not enter.

My wife and I stayed here and enjoyed it. The room was very clean and comfortable and had a good view looking east toward mountains.
Some downsides: The pool area looks fabulous, but the pool hours were too short for us to use it. This place is tricky to get to. It's on a frontage road off of Puerto Rico Rt. 2, and we found it hard to find the turn--we wound up driving up to the mall area north of the hotel and turning around. I also misread the map and thought a beach was walkable from there. The lobby area is pretty small and unremarkable.
But more good things: Parking was ample and easy. Everyone was very friendly. But I especially want to praise the hotel bartender Hector. He was one of the friendliest and most helpful bartenders/servers I have ever met. He made us feel at home, made us so comfortable we ordered dinner, and made great suggestions on where to go on our visit. He was remarkable!
We'd be happy to stay there again.

My husband booked a 2 Queen-bed room for 21 days for 3 people. We arrived on a Tuesday. The room had only 2 towels and I had to request a third. It has no microwave, but there is one bt=y the ice machine, but based on the service i received I was afraid that it might never gets celan. For 5 days we had no housekeping service! Every evening, I had to go to the front desk asking items that we ran out off such as toilet paper, tissues, towels, etc. On Friday and Saturday, I went to the front desk asking to please clean my room. Nothing, Sunday morning at 10:31 AM, I especifically told them to clean my room because it had not been serviced since the day we arrived, and we were going to be out ALL DAY! When we arrived around 10:00 PM the room was still untouched. Monday, I spoke with a manager, and she told me that my room was not serviced because I have a "Do Not Disturb" sign on the door at 8:00 AM. I explained that we remove it every morning as we leave, sometimes between 9 to 10 AM, besides the checkout time is Noon. She gave me a voucher for 2 complimentary breakfasts. Things were fine for a few days. Then I found a note from housekeeping informing that the towels "will be brought soon". (There were No towels of any size when we arrived at 8:45 PM). By 9, I went to the front desk, told them about the note, they said it was placed around 5 to 6 PM and that they will call housekeeping. At 9:00 PM, No towels, yet. After attempting to call the front desk 3 times in 15 minutes getting a busy sound, I dialed housekeping myself. I was told that he was not aware of that, but to give him 10 minutes. He arrived around 9:45 PM and apologized. The next day, and for the 3 following days, housekeeping didn't show up. Once again, I spoke with a manager. If it wasn't because my husband refused to move to another hotel, I would have left by day 3! The pool is only 4 feet deep and a disapointment for my granddaughter who is on a swimming team! The food was no that good either, My husband and I ordered a piña colada and received 1 ounce of drink covered with whipped cream and a chery! We literally have to eat the whipped cream with a spoon like ice cream and most of the food on the platter of fried appetizers were burned. In 49 years of traveling all over the USA, Canada and Europe, Have i ever had such a bad service! The day before checking out, the manager called to give us another free breakfast. (Maybe to a peace me). I don't give a 0 because it is not possible.

I really can't leave a good reference or a good comment.
Room: Ugly smell, no chance to open a window, wet carpet, stained armchair.
Breakfast: very little variety and only allow you to go once through the bathrooms, a place where a person serves you, they do not even give you the possibility of serving yourself. The real odyssey is to get you served, except a waiter who delivered hot water, the rest in addition to ignoring us most of the time, refused to charge us the calf even offering to pay for the water (to take obvious mate ).
New Year’s dinner: when a regular dinner is around 20 u$s, dinner and New Year’s Eve toasts are around 115 u$s.
Very impersonal everything, in the pool area there was horrible music very loud all the time and no canteen service except a phone to call, that if you clean the common areas.

Booked this place for family of 3 of us, with a rate that said breakfast included. Booked this on holiday inn website.
On arrival we were told that it is included for only 2 people (pay extra for additional people if you want).
Calling holiday in customer service and opening case turned out to be not helpful.
I was told this is the policy of the hotel and they are just enforcing it.
I looks like patron like me was provided incorrect information. I would have made other choice if I had known at the time of booking.

A Great property which is centrally located to many restaurants and shopping options. The hotel is very clean and well maintained with a warm accomodating hospitable staff.
I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for reasonably priced accommodations in the MayagĂĽez area!

I have stayed at this hotel several times over the past several years, and this times the overall experience was average! The staff are friendly and attentive! The room was clean and comfortable! I gave the average rating of average because of the breakfast service. The past two days, I ordered fried eggs with bacon, and it took over 20 minutes to receive my meal! There were only three other persons in the dining area. I had to ask twice were was my breakfast? Not acceptable! It only takes two minutes to cook two eggs! The hotel offers free parking.

We were on a 1 week trip across PR and stayed one night in this hotel while visiting Rincon, Rojo Cabo and the west coast. First of all PR country side is amazing. We would recommend everyone to visit the west coast through the mountains.
We had a great time at the Holiday Inn. The check-in was super easy and all the staff was super friendly and helpful. All the reviews I read mentioned the pool being closed but it is not. The pool is open and is huge with a basketball court next to it on large grounds. The pool attendant was very responsive and got us towels and pool side food as well. We did visit the casino which was fun at night. There is a small mall next to the hotel with lot of eating options. We had the breakfast in our package. It was the usual food with scrambled eggs and toasts etc - nothing fancy. The location is a bit difficult to access due to no traffic signal on a busy road so you have to force yourself in the traffic. But after driving 1 week in PR we knew what to do.
The staff made the difference here. Super friendly Puerto Ricans made our stay memorable.

Everything was good except… when we ordered the food to go (so we could eat it in our room). And for this the options were limited on what you could take and we expected more variety when the paying price was $20 p/p for receiving what we did. In the next stay we planned to save some money by eating outside.

If you arrive to San Juan Airport I will recomend you to rent a car to go to Holiday Inn in Mayaguez because the trip is about 2 to 2:30 hrs. from San Juan. I am not sure about special transportation from San Jian Airport to Mayaguez but you can call the airline and they will tell you.

Fran
