While the Embassy Suites by Hilton Dorado del Mar Beach Resort boasts a scenic location and amenities such as a large pool and koi pond that some guests enjoy, it seems to struggle with providing consistent value and service. Travelers have called out issues with room cleanliness, pointing to mold and dampness, and the need for updates.
Despite praise for the well-maintained beach and some positive staff interactions, the resort faces criticism for additional charges, maintenance problems, and a dated atmosphere that could benefit from a refresh.

The hotel is a bit tired, with worn carpets and plastic chairs in the restaurant reminiscent of outdoor furniture. The familiar made to order breakfast at Embassy Suites was lacking in that there was little fresh fruit and if you did not arrive early it was gone. Also found it odd that a breakfast advertised to be open until 9:30 began breaking down the serving pieces at 9 am. One bright spot - the woman making omelets hand over fist for those lined up was always pleasant and apologetic if the breakfast meat of the day was gone. Not to dwell on eating and drinking but the snacks advertised with the two drink system each evening from 5:30 to 7 consisted of popcorn on most nights, assorted crackers one night and veggies on evening. Also found it odd that areas of the lobby were roped off so you could not access seating at times. The pool is large and the plants and trees are tropical. The pool bar and grill was accommodating and the gift shop served my best meal of the week, a Cuban sandwich. Front desk staff were helpful but except for Hector, a bellman, most staff were indifferent, doing their job but seemingly not enjoying it. Lastly, when you book be sure to take note of all the hidden charges. After taxes, parking and resort fees a room I thought was going to be just under $400 ended up at over $500 plus.

We aren’t a high maintenance family. But believe if we are going to spend almost 400. A night for a room things should be pretty spectacular. I’m not sure this place is spectacular. First for the pros: Gorgeous views, pool is nice but can get quite crowded. Breakfast is alright but also gets crowded. If you are a late sleeper expect to wait in a line and have a hard time finding a seat. Best time to go is between 8 and 815. You are given at checkin 2 tickets per adult for each night stay for free drinks at the night reception. The sunsets are amazing. Cons - if you arrive before 4 pm you will have to wait to check in. We arrived around 130 and had to wait around until 430. to check in. You will need to rent a car as this hotel is far off the beaten path. There isn’t a hotel shuttle and taxis and Ubers are hard to come by. Most of the tours are out of fajardo which is on the other side of the island. Check online for the tours you think you want as the tours with the hotel were all sold out and cost more then they did online. The rooms are worn, the carpet is gross and the bathroom sink and shower both clogged up. They only service the room every other day. The pull out couch didn’t have any linens so we had to call to get some. Take extra sheets to put over the couch and chairs because they are stained. The beach area only has a little bit of sand and is not maintained. It was quite rocky. If you do decide to go in the water I would recommend wearing water shoes. Limited food options the pool restaurant closes at 6 and the hotel restaurant is mediocre. Also you are charged an additional 35.00 a night for a resort fee. Parking per day is 14.50. The vending machines dont work you will have to ask the bartender for ice. (Take a zip loc to put it in.). The bright side of this trip is that we found a fantastic Uber driver Lisa. If you need an Uber try to get her if you can.

I am the Treasurer of the Puerto Rican Association of Professional Counseling. I am 71 and a half years old with several health conditions and I have always requested a disability bath and it appears in writing in the contract. When I went to request the room, Joshua (night manager) told me, looking at me from bottom to top, in a strange tone, he didn't know there was a person in a wheelchair. It is a disgusting and ignorant comment. The request was written and even appears in the contract. Furthermore, he was rude to me since I had been there for an hour while Karina attended to me when I paid for the staff parking and left the APCP card for the incidentals (in the afternoon) and he was rude indicating that he was going to attend to other people when I was still I didn't have a room despite being at the hotel since 1:30pm to handle finances, among other things. The other incident was with Elian Rivera, who had cleaned the ladies' bathroom on the first floor. I went to use it and asked him to please allow me to use it but he told me that I had to wait two minutes for it to dry. I told him I couldn't wait but I noticed that the floor was practically dry but he remained firm indicating no because I could fall. It was a less than empathetic attitude and more so that I was accompanied by two ladies who could help me but he insisted not to. I pointed out that Joshua needed to be taught manners and he needed to be taught compassion. On the other hand, there have been very kind people with Carlos Rodríguez from maintenance. He is the example of what it means to serve and facilitate with a kindness and smile that invites you to stay and return. In groups I called Amarilis and she solved a lot. Melissa Calderón and Luis González were great with the food!!!!!

I wish I had of chose a different hotel from the 1st night here. It was my first time in Puerto Rico for my birthday and the hotel pictures seemed nice. But this hotel’s owner obviously doesn’t care about happy customers or the Hilton Brand. This resort in person is run down, old and dirty. There is basically no beach and it was dirty. Hotel is about a 40 minute drive from downtown San Juan.
Room: Room was not clean, ring around toilet, furnishings were rusted, thermostat not working, dust from vents on the towels. Had a room with balcony right over garbage area so could not sit on balcony and enjoy it without the stinch of garbage. Tried to switch rooms but the other room was worse, smelled of mold upon stepping into the room. Phone in room dated and didn’t hardly work.
The glass in the elevator was broken and a safety hazard but again no one cared.
Location: Far away, there are fast food restaurants about 2-3 miles outside the resort, but it is difficult to get them to deliver to resort because DoorDash or Uber drivers don’t stay out in that area. It took 40 minutes for an Lyft driver to come pick up to take me to the airport. I was there 3 days and ended up renting a car for two days just to get around.
Customer Service: Staff seem to have strict orders from owner on handling complaints because they know the place is old and run down! Complained to manager several times during stay and received little concession again because they “know” the issues with the hotel and they are trained to hardline the customer.
Breakfast: You can’t take breakfast out the restaurant area. Omelet station but other than that very limited selection.
I travel a lot of this hotel does not represent the Hilton Brand well at all.
I hope the owner wises up and does some upgrades soon!

Starting with the few positives: Nice beach, nice pool area and pretty lobby. Other than that it was downhill. The lounge chairs look worn out and have some broken straps, in the beach area they have some lounge chairs but if those are taken you have to rent one, The drinks in the bar area were horrible ,they used a syrupy juice mix to make their drinks.( never had I had to throw out a rum punch before) Needless to say I only drank water while at the pool area for the rest of my stay. Breakfast was a big disappointment, limited options and not very tasty. No expresó coffee, only drip coffe. I agree with other reviews that the rooms are outdated., but the biggest disappointment was finding out you do not get daily clean up service in your room, only every other day…….(If I wanted to make my bed and clean my bathroom I would have chosen a rental property) Considering we visited during high season, paid resort fee which together with taxes and fees added up to almost t$500 per night for a room, I find the hotel does not meet its standards. Very disappointed because as a local I was looking forward to finding a good location to spend quality time with the family. Will continue looking.

Recommend everyone avoid this hotel until renovations and deep cleaning have been completed.
A resort fee should NOT be charged to anyone until the resort is updated.
Embassy Suites by Hilton Dorado del Mar Beach Resort, is the worse Hilton I have ever experienced.
The staff was excellent, great service, polite, helpful but my room was horrible. The negative room experiences overshadowed the amenities and helpful staff.
My rooms were all dirty, molded, rusted and outdated with old broken furniture and dirty carpet. Rust all over the room especially in the bathroom, on bed side lamp shades, green mold on dresser handles, mold in the bathroom with bubbles in the ceiling, dirty shower head and black floor tiles, slow draining sinks and tub along with a large hole in the bed headboard. It smells like old wet socks when you walk in. AC vents are all covered with rust and dripping. When I complained to the front desk with photos they said said there were no rooms available to switch. The following day my room was switched however, the mold already impacted my allergies...stuffy and sick for a destination wedding. New room better bathroom but still the same rusted lamp shades, molded vents, mold on dresser handles, slow drain sink and toilet. No shower gel available, empty lotion bottles. Great view of the pool area if you l do not look down to see a ledge filled with dirty toys, hangers and clothes that fell from different rooms many years ago.
I do want to acknowledge the great Customer Service in public spaces, poolside area, resturants bars and front desk specifically Ms. Michelle, Mr. Israel, Mr. Eduardo, Ms. Mio and Mr. Castro. Their great cudtomer service made our family wedding celebration vacation bareable. Please give them all a raise and time off.
I am truly disappointed as a Diamond member with this Hilton branded hotel. My family was uncomfortable in every room.
I appreciate efforts to rectify our horrible room experiences and truly hope a renovation is prioritized in the near future.

Thank you for taking the time to share such detailed feedback about your stay. I want to sincerely apologize for the condition of the rooms you encountered and the impact it had on your experience, especially during such an important event as a family wedding. The issues you described, are unacceptable and far from the standards we aim to uphold. I’m sorry that these conditions affected your health and comfort. I also want to apologize for the inconvenience of having to change rooms, only to find similar issues in the new room. This is not the experience we want for any guest, let alone a valued Diamond member like yourself. Your comments have been shared with our team, and we are committed to addressing these serious concerns. We will be prioritizing renovations and improvements to ensure that our rooms meet the high standards expected of a Hilton-branded hotel. On a positive note, I’m pleased to hear that the exceptional service from Ms. Michelle, Mr. Israel, Mr. Eduardo, Ms. Mio, and Mr. Castro helped make your stay more bearable. We will certainly pass along your kind words and recognition to them, and I agree—they deserve acknowledgment for their dedication. Thank you again for your candid feedback. We truly value your loyalty and hope we can regain your trust in the future by providing the exceptional experience you deserve.

The Embassy Suites by Hilton Dorado del Mar Beach Resort in Dorado, Puerto Rico, has long been my go-to hotel for any travel to the area, and I have recommended it to business associates numerous times as a preferred option. However, after my recent stay, I’m afraid I can no longer recommended it to my colleagues at Ford Motor Co., as the hotel’s state of disrepair is concerning to the point of being hazardous. Among the many failures I noted during my stay, I want to bring several to your attention as they speak to the extensive damage being caused to what I’m sure is a vital capital asset in your portfolio, in addition to exposing your organization to potential legal action. First, the roof has failed. When it rains, as it so often does in a tropical location, the water pouring into the facility is collected with buckets and towels. While I hope this is a recent failure and is in the process of being repaired, what I observed in the interior finishes seems to indicate this has been a long-standing problem. In the corridors, I observed the wood finishes were rotting from the rainwater. Second, the corridors the carpets have deteriorated to the point of tearing. While this is unsightly and not in keeping with the standards, I’ve come to associate with the Hilton brand, as a person with a certain degree of mobility challenges, this caused me to small amount of concern for my personal safety and that of other guests. I’m sure you are aware of all the violations triggered by a slip/fall hazard in a hospitality facility. Third, the presence of roaches in the coffee area. The last item I will note is that despite numerous calls to the front desk, my request to have my balcony cleared of the copious bird droppings from a bird nest on the light fixture went wholly unanswered. This compromised my ability to fully utilize my room, and glaringly underlined the level of disregard for guest experience exhibited by the current hotel management. It pains me to have to send this note to you. This property has always been a place where I could come and relax, and one which I could recommend to others without hesitation. On the contrary, now I will be forced to tell them to take their business elsewhere, both for their comfort and safety. I can only hope you will take my concerns seriously and investigate why this property has been allowed to fall so far from the Hilton standard of excellence. Sincerely, Justo Vinales

I’ve stayed at several Embassy Suites and have always had great experiences, but this visit to Embassy Suites Dorado was a major disappointment.
The front desk staff was unfriendly and offered no information—no map, no Wi-Fi code, no overview of amenities. Our room was outdated and unclean, with a used perfume bottle and pills on the floor. The air conditioning didn’t work properly, making the room uncomfortable.
The evening happy hour was misleading. It was advertised as including drinks and appetizers, but only popcorn was offered. Bartenders were curt and unwelcoming. Breakfast was okay, but everything was removed promptly at 9:30 AM, earlier than other Embassy Suites I’ve visited.
The property was generally dirty—hallways and areas near conference rooms were not well maintained. The pool was decent, but there was no one at the towel stand and guests had to move their own chairs to the beach. The beach itself was small and rocky—not what we expected.
We were booked for four nights but left after just one. We also met three other couples who were leaving early due to similar disappointments. This location does not live up to the Embassy Suites standard

Embassy has went downhill not worth the money. Every morning the breakfast was cold which was ridiculous. The workers puts everything up before it ends. The inside bar isn’t open until late in the evening which is crazy both bars should he open at all times. The mini beers need to be bigger for the price you pay. Employees need to be more friendly they act like they really doesn’t want to be there. I saw them talk more amongst each other than to the guests. They may need to try to be nicer that’s how the tips roll in. Room service (cleaning of room, toweks etc) should be offered daily which it wasn’t. We had to ask for clean towels, tissue etc. Think I’ll stick to all inclusive stays for the money I paid to stay, on food & drinks I could have stayed at one. Tried Embassy because normally they’re nice. Was got this time but won’t get me again.
