Detailed Reviews
Hotel Belgica occupies a wonderful old colonial building with a grand tiled entrance, high ceilings and an atmospheric spanish-era ambience. Balustraded staircases take the place of elevators but help was on hand to assist with our rum-laden suitcases.
Our room was simply but adequately furnished, very spacious and served with good wi-fi. I would have preferred the bed linen to include a quilt encapsulated within a washable cover for hygiene purposes but my main irritation was the hot water was barely tepid. Desk staff attributed this to the use of solar panels but as the issue was the same both evening and morning and just an hour after mentioning it, the water temperature was suddenly much improved, I suspect the matter is somewhat more complex. Either way, I have deducted a TA blob from my rating as this aspect of our stay was quite irritating and not being properly managed.
Location-wise, Belgica is just off the main square which is great for restaurants, the evening buzz and a nearby great spot for breakfast. Parking wasn't a problem as we took advantage of one of the reserved spots just outside. Even without these being available, it seemed that on-street parking wouldn't be much of a problem.

I had a wonderful stay at Hotel Belgica!! The room was very clean and the bed very comfortable. The staff was very nice and went out of their way to make me feel as comfortable as possible; even letting me use their washer and dryer free of charge when I requested a laundry service. I will for sure stay here again when I go back to Ponce in the future

Beautiful ! very walkable to many points of interest around historic Ponce central. If your room doesn’t have what you need, simply ask the front desk, the staff are incredibly friendly and gracious. Very very clean, beautifully decorated for the holidays. Highly recommend for anyone who is looking for a unique authentic & historic experience.

We had a terrible stay at this hotel last night. Walking into the hotel, it looked very pleasant. However it was all downhill from there. It was very difficult to control the temperature in the room. We were either hot and humid or freezing cold. As we got into bed at 11:00 pm and we pulled back the covers there were bugs crawling on the pillows, under the pillows, under the covers, on the lamps. We notified the desk clerk. He came up and was even more horrified than we were. He was very nice and very responsive. He took pictures, that he would be notifying the manager immediately and that they would probably be comping the room. He was able to find us another room, but it entailed us packing up everything we had unpacked and moving. At 7 AM in the morning when I showered, there was no hot water. Upon checking out, when reviewing with the desk clerk what happened, and being told the room would be comped, we were told that was not possible because we had been moved rooms. They were not willing to make any compensation for the major inconveniences we experienced. The bright spots were a delightful woman at the desk when we check in who was very helpful with recommendations about things to do and where to eat. We also appreciated the young man who helped move us to a new room. The rooms themselves were nice although we froze all night. I am very disappointed in management not doing anything to make the situation right.

When old hotels try to adapt to contemporary tastes, the results are often disastrous. Either the antique charm of the original building is destroyed or the attempts at modernization are so halfhearted that you wind up with the worst of both eras. The Belgica avoids these pitfalls and is a textbook example of how a hotel built in 1872 can be gracious, spacious, and full of all the amenities today's travelers expect. This means, for example, that original worn marble and tile floors are intact, that the high-ceilinged rooms have beautiful and fully functional wooden shutter doors that open onto a streetside balcony, that wainscoting has been seamlessly replaced and maintained, and that you will find very little if any sheetrock about the place. However you will find booming WiFi, big flat-screen TVs, en suite bathrooms with piping hot water, firm mattresses and luxurious sheets, and good lighting throughout the rooms. The staff was understatedly excellent, giving us a mix of professionalism and the down-home hospitality that Ponce extends to travelers. I loved it from the moment we walked in.

Nice hotel, great location. Had issue with reservations- they had me in computer for wrong dates and had to change my 2 rooms to a double and a room with a double and a king when I asked for 1 king and 1 queen. If I wanted 2 beds in a room I would have booked it that way. Charged me more money too and would not adjust price to original receipt even though it was their error. Win-win for them as it was too late for me to look for another hotel AND my whole family was staying at this hotel for a wedding. Word to the wise, call hotel after booking and make sure they have correct dates in the computer. It just so happened to be carnival weekend and I think they wanted more money for the rooms. Very frustrating experience.

Really cool hotel that provided a unique and comfortable experience. We stayed in a king room on the street side on a Friday night and had a quiet night’s sleep. The room was clean and updated. The building has a lot of charm and character. The concierge couldn’t have been nicer and provided great, local recommendations for food and coffee. Perfect location and accommodations for anyone exploring Ponce.

Excellent vintage hotel with modern amenities and great guest service steps away from Ponce's main square. Unless 28 steps is too much for your knees, by all means get a second floor balcony room, you won't regret it. Our room was so comfortable and lacked for nothing. As close it is to downtown ground zero, it is less noisy and crowded than San Juan and has none of the tourist trap ambiance of most OSJ hotels. Manager mailed back home a phone charger we'd forgotten upon leaving our room. Definitely will return and recommend.

I'd return again if I were in Ponce.
Positives:
+: The location was super convenient for the main plaza.
+: We were able to find free street parking, so we didn't need to pay the hotel parking fee.
+: The air conditioning is really strong.
+: The bed was really comfortable.
Mixed Review:
~: The balcony rooms face a lively street, so expect street noise.
~: Very historical feel. There's no elevator, so you're walking your luggage up a tall flight of stairs. And the room floor has all of the unevenness acquired over 100+ years. But it doesn't feel cookie-cutter resorty.
Negatives:
-: The bathroom in the room has a door, but there's not separate ceiling for the bathroom. So all of the sounds and smells of the bathroom are shared with the entire guestroom.
-: Very slow wifi

We stayed at Hotel Belgica on Plaza Las Delicias, during the Ponce Carnival and loved it! We chose Ponce Carnival because it was our 30th wedding anniversary and we were married at Mardi Gras in New Orleans, so we decided to stay with the theme. First, I would say that if you want the excitement of a festival with parades and traditional costumes, etc., but not the public drunkeness that goes with it (in New Orleans) the Ponce Carnival is for you!
The hotel is situated close to the festivities, so that we could get to the action in a five-minute walk, but far enough away that the hotel was quiet during the night. The staff was very friendly and Humberto, in particular, was gracious and had a number of great dining and sightseeing recommendations for us. The room was fairly spacious and had a nice queen bed & TV with Netflix (if you have an account, which we did). Huge double doors that open to a small balcony, on which we sat and had a glass of wine for happy hour, on the day we arrived. The AC worked well with a remote control. If you like a hotel with a historic feel, but all the modern amenities, located in a traditional city center, this place is for you.
We did have some confusion about the carnival itself, which was scheduled for Saturday through Tuesday when we booked the reservation, but later was shortened to Sunday only. This was done because of the recent earthquake, of which Ponce was still showing some damage, with maybe 5 percent of buildings in the historic center being uninhabitable. However, the city was showing its resilient spirit during the carnival and we had a very good time at the parade and the musical performance in the evening (a salsa artist/band called Pirulo y La Tribu) was fantastic. We worked with Humberto to arrange an early check-out so we could see more of the island before we return to cold, snowy Colorado.

There is no hotel parking. There is a free parking garage about two blocks from the hotel. The staff can provide specific directions. There is street parking near the hotel as well. We used both without a problem. There is a space in front of the hotel reserved for loading and unloading luggage which was perfect for our arrival and departure.
The hotel staff gave us good options for parking both on the street and in a nearby garage, both free. Yes, we were near the hotel in both cases. As with any time we park in a city, we left nothing visible in the car, and left nothing in the trunk. All the best and enjoy your visit!
No. Mine was indoor. No balcony.
The hotel is not in San Juan. We had hired a car for the whole trip which we picked up at the airport and then drove to the hotel - wasn't far but not possible without a car. There is great food all over the island that said...
The hotel does not have parking available since it is located in the heart of Ponce. You can park on the street or there's a public parking building near by (approx 5-10 min walk from the hotel)
