When we arrived there was a locked gate and the proprietor came out when the driver rang. We knew we were early, so we asked to drop our luggage so we could go have lunch and walk the town. Maybe then sit by the pool for awhile? Instead he refused to open the gate and said, "Come back at 5!” We explained that we had four heavy pieces of luggage. Literally our only choice would have been to sit on the curb for six hours watching our bags and waiting for him to open the gate. Instead we went to another hotel. Then he refused the booking site’s attempt to cancel the reservation. I don’t know what this place is like when you arrive in the evening, but I know you shouldn’t book here if you need to arrive any earlier.
We had a couple of nights in Martinique in advance of a cruise. We lucked in to a room at Maison Clementine, a small (6 Room) hotel in Fort-de-France. Located outside of the downtown, we found it easily once we put Google on to the task. Parking was secure and conveniently onsite. Clementine, the owner/manager was special. On short notice, she prepared for us an evening meal worthy of great praise and a chilled bottle of French chablis to boot. She helped us plan the next few days of car touring with suggested highlights, directions and tips for travel (spot on) and walkable restaurants (best ever Calamari up the way). Our room was spotless, good-sized and had an outdoor sitting area, plunge pool and comfortable furnishings. Breakfasts were ample continental French style- the fresh avocados from the garden, wonderful breads and juices were great. Hummingbirds, fruit trees and plenty of green space made us wish we were staying longer at this terrific hideaway in the city…
Breakfast with juices, yoghurt, mini croissants, pain au chocolat, rolls and fruit with home made jams. Coffee maker and fridge, no stove.Clementine is a gem, very helpful and knowledgeable about places to visit and eat. Stayed in the Grenade Room, picturesque with charming bed, dressing room and garden view. Not accessible, so book ground floor if access is an issue. Good location near to Musee Pinchon and the government CTM. 20/25 mins in good traffic from airport and downtown CBD.
Fantastic! Very clean, spacious, elegant! Breakfast is delicious. Great getaway hiding spot. Clementine is very attentive and helpful. Perfect place to access different touristic sites. Would definitely recommend.
We went to Martinique for our honeymoon, and our stay at Maison Clementine was delightful. Our hosts were very nice and informative; they provided a delicious breakfast every morning, and gave us recommendations for how to spend our days on the different parts of the island. The room was very clean and comfortable, and felt very private. We spent a couple evenings hanging out on the patio just off our room and could barely tell anyone else was there. If we ever go back to Martinique, we would definitely stay at Maison Clementine again.
