Sandals Grande St Lucian garners praise for its cleanliness and beautiful grounds, with many guests enjoying the vibrant atmosphere and wide array of amenities, including a stunning beach and diverse dining options. While the service is often lauded for its attentiveness, some visitors have faced slow responses. Room experiences vary, with reports of excellent butler service alongside maintenance and decor issues. Persistent noise and a feeling that the cost does not match the value mar satisfaction for some, despite the hotel's praised location.

Just returned from a lovely week celebrating our 35th Anniversary. Wanted a picturesque location with nice rooms, delicious food, beautiful pools and grounds and enjoyable entertainment. Sandals Grande St Lucian provided all of that, and we left happy. I usually read the comments and reviews of the island and resort we heading to daily for about 6 months prior to arriving so I can get a good feel for what to expect. Most times, the reviews for Sandals are positive but I read the good and the bad. When I read many reviews from our UK cousins, they invariably devolve into criticism of North American guests. Noisy Americans, the place is too Americanized, shame about the Americans, the list goes on. We don’t expect an Americanized version of the destination we are travelling to. We fell in love with the Caribbean like most of you and wish it to retain its culture and beauty independent of American influence.

The Arrival – Arrived on a packed Jet Blue Flight on 3 March, and Fast Track ushered us through immigration and customs and on to the Sandals Lounge. Had enough time for a quick soda and pack of shortbread cookies and then told the bus had arrived. Stood in line when it was our time to board was told the bus was full and they had procured a private car. It turned out to be a cramped Toyota with poor air conditioning and the ride took 3.5 hours due to traffic. This was due to ongoing construction and a car/motorcycle collision on route.

Reception and the Room We were greeted warmly and offered a cocktail. I asked for a soft drink and it was presented within minutes. Check in was quick and friendly. We were escorted within 20 minutes of arrival to room 6116. a Caribbean Walkout Deluxe (WDL). The bed was decorated with Happy Anniversary, and a piece of cake was on the small table with a welcome packet. It was all we needed. We leave the room each morning at 7:00 am for breakfast and don’t return until its time to get ready for dinner. It looked out at a row of shrubbery semi-blocking the roadway to Pigeon Island and the tennis courts. We headed to Bayside for some French cuisine and then walked the entire property to get the lay of the land.

Meals We breakfast buffet daily at Bayside each morning – good food and hardworking, professional friendly staff. For lunches we tried Bayside, Dino’s , Mariner’s , the Jerk Shack and Mariner. Food was all good but some of the staff was a little unfriendly. Understandable considering how hot those pizza ovens can get. For dinner, we ate at Bayside, Barefoot twice, Toscanini’s, Bombay, Soy and Gordon’s. Speaking of Gordon’s the dress code for men is long pants which I wore, only to see men arrive in shorts. It had a really nice view of the bay, and a cute little kitten named Gemma made her way from table to table. For deserts we tried Josephine’s for crepes and ice cream and The Pub once.

Extras- We were offered a photo shoot and a 30 minute couple massage which we declined. Also booked the Sandals Select dinner but missed that on Tuesday night. We rented a cabana for a day on the beach and It was wonderful with 2 concierges, Mavrik and Aslan. Cost was 130.00 US from 9am through 5pm. Came with a cooler filled with beer and water, lunch delivery, a bottle of requested French sparkling for my wife, and any drink we could ask for from the bar. An enjoyable day and we tipped each concierge 25% of the cost. Also walked to Pigeon Island one morning and hiked to Fort Rodney with my wife. Great views and steeper than it looked. My wife then climbed Signal point alone while I stayed at the base catching my breath.

The Beach - walked the short beach end to end multiple times a day. Just past the OTWB's is a small beach that leads to a fenced off pier belonging to the Landing. A small path covered in broken coral leads to a path but we did not try to take it. At the other end is Pigeon Island Public beach which we walked on. Guests from this beach also make their way down the Sandals beach including children, but security keeps a watchful eye on everyone. The entry to the ocean is eroded and has a slight incline which you have to step down into. The water is clear and the sand is firm. Anchored yellow floats are removed, sprayed down and returned every couple of days. Jet skis for a fee, kayaks, paddle boards and Hobie catamarans and water skiing all available.

The Good - The employees, the pools, the landscaping, the meals, entertainment, and the warm ocean. The Peter special - regular for her, virgin for me.

The Bad - The Loop paid us only lip service. Asked multiple times to have soda delivered to room. Only replenished once in 7-night stay. There were only 2 waters the final night left in the mini fridge.

The Ugly
The early morning chair game. Skipped it first morning and fried. Next morning up at 5:00am to stake out my spot. One morning sat next to a butler couple and we both had the same spot for two days until they decided they wanted my spot. Went for a walk only to come back and find my belongings gone and them in our spot. After we left for our walk, they had their butler send our personal belongings to the front desk and were smug about it, as was the butler manager who came over from water sports. Left a bad feeling about those guests and butler staff.

Overall - Beautiful property, would return. Booked Sandals Barbados for next trip.

Well, this place exceeded all our expectations! This was our first trip to a Sandals resort and to St Lucia and it didn't disappoint. Everything was perfect! As with any hotel, it is only as good as the staff and they were exceptional. The site has something for everyone, a quiet end for those who want peace to read a book and a noisy end for those who want a lively atmosphere. Whichever end we were at, we were constantly asked if we wanted any drinks, there are numerous pools with a constant supply of towels and while we went during a busy period and many people got up early to reserve their favourite sunlounger, there were plenty of them!

All the rooms are the same, its just the outlook which is extra! The rooms are cleaned to a high standard and the minibar is constantly restocked (and free!). The only issue we had was that the 4 poster bed was a little on the high side and with my wife being 5' 4", she had difficulty getting into and out of bed; this was solved by the staff and she was given a step! All watersports are included including diving and water skiing (except jetskis which are $60 for 30 minutes).

All the food in the restaurants was excellent (several restaurants had to be booked in advance so do that as soon as you arrive in the resort). It was varied, tasty, hot (although the food in Bombay could have been a little hotter and service a little quicker although this was probably down to a lack of staff on the night). The staff couldn't do enough for us. There was entertainment every night which again was excellent, they have 2 tennis courts (acrylic surface) which were not used that much and the grounds were immaculate, not a leaf out of place!

If you decide to go to this resort, you will not be disappointed!

Keep in mind we were here for the second time so we do like the resort but there were some issues. The ride was not as bad as the first time and we learned to avoid the skycaps for the 3 second walk to the lounge. We were seated and after a brief wait we were greeted and checked in. It did help that I did most of it on line. We were shown to our room and went for dinner at Barefoot. The staff were excellent and friendly and the food was very good. The grilled Mahi Mahi was cooked to perfection and fresh. We did return for lunch twice and had salads with fresh snapper. Our room was a Luxury room and was roomy, clean and comfortable. We are early risers so we always got the beach chairs we wanted but I understand the frustration because the butlers grab everything early. Bayside, Soy and Gordon’s were all very good. Our hiccup was LaToc restaurant at LaToc. Last time we went there and had a leisurely romantic dinner with excellent service and excellent food. This time it was a horror show. We were told to take a certain shuttle and the driver decided to take a 15 minute break. So it left late, then there was road construction and a stop at Halcyon. So 45 minutes later we became the invisible couple sitting at a table with no service or acknowledgement. Finally we flagged someone, put in an order and got some terrible food. Inedible duck, cold scallops and a tKe out dessert I received after being humiliated by the waitress. The manager ran out of the restaurant to apologize, I informed someone at the Grande and never heard back from anyone at Ltoc. The second thing wS that people from outside the resort were walking around and using the facilities. I told security and management and no one said anything so watch your belongings because everyone using Sandals property is not. Guest at the hotel. It would have been nice to have received some acknowledgement from management, and not the typical response I’ll get from this review about how they’re looking into these matters.

This is our third consecutive year coming to the Sandals Grande; obviously we've returned because of good consistent quality and enjoyment. This past week's trip was the outlier.

Overall quality and layout has been consistent. Food taste has been good, as expected. Drinks and bar service also top notch.
Little things that were subpar on this trip compared to previous years: no daily flowers in the room, no "towel art", room fridge wasn't consistently restocked, checkout information (date, flight) was incorrect.

They also talk strictly about no smoking on the resort property but there were obvious offenders on balconies, in the main lobby and on the beach that had a blind eye turned to them.

No tipping is also a prominent perk at Sandals, yet guests continue to push tips on some of the staff. We noticed inconsistency amongst the staff: some accept, though most did not. Respect.

Guest culture is also contributing to competition for beach chairs and beach location. It seems that in order to secure any bit of shade now, you are forced into paying for butler service, otherwise those areas are perpetually "reserved".

We love St. Lucia and would easily return yet again. We also really enjoy the Sandals experience and hope this was just an off-week for both guests and staff.

P.S. Shervon Sealy's Country Night never disappoints!

Hello and thank you for sharing your review with us and other readers. We were delighted to welcome you back as returning guests and to note that certain aspects of your stay were in line with your expectations based on your established Sandals experiences. At Sandals Grande st. Lucian we take service and standard very serious as this is very vital to our guest luxury vacation experience. We apologize if this seems to be less evident during your stay and was not more reflective of the level of service you have come to expect from a Sandals resort. Your feedback regarding your experiences has been duly noted and will be reported to the relevant Management team for future consideration. While we try not to limit our guests' enjoyment of our property, we do have designated smoking areas and request that should a guest feel obliged to engage in this activity, that it be done in said areas. At Sandals Resorts, all tips are included however there's one exception: the butlers. The tip is not obligatory and often depends on the quality of service received. Nevertheless, we regret that this concern was not brought to our attention during your stay as Management would have been happy to intervene on your behalf, provided the stated and understood rules were being violated. We remain respectful of the input you have provided and your suggestions have been forwarded to resort management for consideration as we appreciate that this allows us an insight into our guests' needs and how best to fulfill them. It is our hope that you would permit the positive aspects of your stay to outweigh any dismay you may have felt as we would truly appreciate an opportunity to regain our high standing with you during a future stay at another one of our resorts.

Travelling with the COVID paranoia takes a lot of the fun away so if you are so inclined you should wait before going international however if you are willing to put up with the restrictions then come on down to the most amazing resort in the Caribbean. We stayed in the OWB and while obscenely expensive, it was the most memorable week of our lives. Granted, we could have bought a nice used car for the same cost but you only live once.

OWB rooms (over water bungalow) is separate from the rest of the resort. You can pretty much eat every meal in your room on your own patio over the water but we choose to go out to dinner every night. Most of the day was spent on our private dock however. The butlers for the OWB are a separate class and they do a spectacular job. We had Karen, Gemma and Elone. They anticipated our every need and took care of everything. We got our food on time and everything was perfect. Zero complaints. The OWB room itself is magical. Large, spacious with outdoor shower and tub. So romantic.

I love to scuba the their team is wonderful. Special shout out to Fletcher for taking such good care of me. The diving is pretty good by Sandals standards but I don't go to Sandals for the great diving to be honest. They pretty much stay at 60 feet and don't get into wall dives or swim throughs. Pretty much just coral reefs.

In all, I can't recommend Sandals enough. This is our 6th visit with them. If you're looking for a budget trip, however, then your experience will be much different than ours because you have to do everything yourself. If you have the ability to indulge a little, then Sandals Grande St. Lucia is an amazing place to visit. You just might want to wait until there's a vaccine if you're prone to getting frustrated while traveling.

Best of all, guests did not have to wear face masks while on the property. Only when they went into the resort store.

I wanted to share the amazing service we had at Sandals Grande St. Lucian! We arrived on July 29th and stayed until August 6th. While we had many hiccups getting to the point of actually taking the vacation, when we got there it was wonderful. I have about 5 different food allergies (gluten, dairy, egg, fin fish, and almonds) and most places we try to dine at in the US get very nervous serving me or don't offer me many options at all. On one of our first days there, Enrique, the executive chef came to our breakfast table when Jenna, our waitress at Toscanini's alerted him to my allergies. He met me at several of my future meals. I was able to pre order my dinners, they accommodated me with ease and just told me to tell them what I wanted to eat-didn't have to be on the menu. They even made me chocolate cake! I never get desert in the US!!! I get so much anxiety trying to dine out and was just overcome by how wonderful the staff was in serving me.
In regards to COVID safety, they were superior. All of the staff wore masks, there are stickers all over the floors to encourage social distancing, your room is taped closed until you check in and enter, all guests must hand sanitize upon entering a dining room, upon many other measures.
The pools and beach were wonderful, the spa was amazing, our room was lovely, and we had a very nice trip for our five-year anniversary.
The only thing I would recommending skipping is the private "luxury" airport transfer, just take the van. Our vehicle both ways was not luxurious and both drivers insisted on driving with the windows down instead of air conditioning. It wasn't pleasant.
Otherwise, this was an amazing trip of a lifetime. Thank you, Sandals, we will be back!

This was our 7th time to SGSL, arrived at the hotel at 6pm, had a private transfer car driven expertly by Stephanie. It was a Sunday afternoon so the traffic was light, took about 1 hour and 20 minutes. It was great to see Tamara and her fabulous team again, nothing is too much trouble for these people. We had an in room check in, and our bags swiftly appeared, delivered by the always cheerful Terrance. Our lovely room was in the Cap Estate building on the second floor, overlooking Rodney Bay. It was kept spruced up by Alison, our housekeeper and the fridge was restocked daily. We were there for two weeks and we never had a bad meal, no waiting for a table in any restaurant, and all the staff we met were great, always a smile on their faces. Our usual spot for the afternoon was the pool bar, big shout out to Michaela, Saraly, Remy, Imran, Matthew and many more. They kept us entertained with their antics and our drinks topped up, they are a great bunch of people, not forgetting Theckla! The only negative here was the awful music being played and at times it was SO loud. I mean, who wants to hear The Macarena or The Birdie Song while in caribbean paradise? Some Reggae or UB40 would be so much better. We went to the returning guests gala dinner which was held at Gordons this time as the ballroom was being renovated. It was absolutley fabulous, the steak and lobster was perfection, the best returning guest dinner, and we have been to a lot! Latoya, the manager of Gordon's, is such an asset to Sandals, such a great person as is Quirstel our server, she is always happy and upbeat. As pearl guests we have complimentary use of a cabana for a day and a massage in Red Lane Spa - both were fabulous. We love the country & western singer Shervon Sealy, he is brilliant. My husband goes diving most days, and considers all the lovely people in the dive shop, his family. They make his holiday, they care about the environment, guest safety, and making sure the divers have a good time. We had a fabulous holiday, got home before the Covid-19 disrupted everything, and we hope everyone in the Caribbean stays well. We will definately be back once things return to normality.

The 90 minute drive to the resort from the airport after a long plane ride makes it a day long journey and we had a private car to avoid an even longer trip. The check-in process was cumbersome and we were forced to wait for a group before being escorted to our room. We had an ocean view room and you should be aware that you can see the ocean but you can't get to it and there is a busy road between. Building 3 and 5 have white water views. Some rooms are remodeled and you should try to get one. We were in 3208 and it was very nice. The buildings with swim-up rooms were some distance from activities and food.
After finally getting there and checked in everything else was very good. The resort never felt crowded although it was sold out. I got chairs reserved before 7 o'clock and that was needed for prime locations but there were always chairs available. There is a main pool with swim-up bar where all the activity (noise) is but there are quiet pools as well. The food was very good whether it was hot dogs and pizza or high end white glove at Gordon's. Some specialty restaurants require reservations so go the day after arrival and book. Soy, the sushi restaurant, is especially good. Bombay is OK and the French night at the main restaurant was excellent. There were a lot of entertainment options but we were in bed early. There are a variety of complimentary beach toys with easy access.
Staff was well trained. We were surprised that room service was only available for the club members and butler service.
All in all this was a good experience and we's return to a Sandals, just not St Lucia.

This is our second time staying at this resort and both stays I look back and cannot think of one thing I would change! Our vacation in this paradise was absolutely perfect! The resort itself is beautiful. It is in Rodney bay which in my opinion is the best place to stay on the island. It is full of mountain views . The water is clear and a beautiful color. There is such a variety of restaurants including italian, Indian, sushi, seafood, and even a beachside restaurant! We don’t do buffets so there was plenty of options for sit down restaurants which we like. In our opinion the food at all the restaurants was like visiting a 5 star restaurant at home every night. The service at the restaurants was fantastic as well. They have a delicious breakfast/brunch restaurant as well. There are so many places to sit on the beach and all different types of lounge chairs with plenty of shade. If you have back or knee problems and can’t do a lounge chair and need a regular upright type of chair you may have to inquire because I don’t remember seeing any non lounge chairs especially in the shady areas. You may have to get up early to put your towel on a chair if you are picky about your spot and especially if you want a shady spot depending on how busy the resort is. We did this but I did not mind. The drinks are delicious as well and each restaurant has a signature drink that you can get when you go for dinner. The staff was very nice and friendly. We had a massage in the spa both times that was absolutely fantastic, relaxing, and worth the money and we decided that we are going to make it a tradition we loved it so much. A couple minutes walk away is pigeon island national park. It is around $8/person to hike. So worth it. It is a short hike to several outlooks that give some of the best views of the island and Rodney bay. This last trip we got engaged at the top. True this resort chain is more expensive than most but to me it is worth the money 110% knowing that I will leave feeling like I had a wonderful time and every penny was worth it. We can’t wait to come back! There are two other sandals resorts on the island but from what we have been told and seen from driving by this one is the larger/better of the 3 and definitely has the best views/beach. The picture included is from the top of the hike at pigeon island.

Having arrived back in rainy Scotland, my partner and I would like to thank all the staff at the Grande for making our first (but definitely not last) visit to sunny St Lucia so memorable! We couldn't have asked for more. The staff worked tirelessly to ensure the resort was spotless and you could tell how seriously they were taking it all. Every member of staff wore a mask as guests were exempt from wearing one (unless in the shops, loyalty office, photo shop) and there were plenty sanitising stations which you were encouraged to use. At no point did we feel unsafe; all of our covid worries were eased from the moment we arrived off the plane.

We have a few special shoutouts:

Keevan who we met on arrival kindly took our bags to our room and explained the facilities in detail. He went above and beyond to make sure our stay was comfortable and enjoyable. We can't thank him enough for his pleasant attitude and friendly conversation each day he is a real gem!!

Claudias on the front desk who was absolutely brilliant at helping me arrange some surprises for my partners 27th birthday. He was always happy to help and always made the effort to greet us.

Kelvin who made our candlelit dinner so special! He was extremely attentive and approachable and told us all about the island which we cannot wait to explore next time we are back.

Ivana the guest service manager who called us most days to ask how our stay was going and was always on hand to answer any queries we had about the resort.

Marvin in bayside who never failed to make us laugh! We will never forget the giggles we shared each morning at breakfast!

Last but not least all the staff who came down and sang Happy Birthday with balloons and cake at the cabana. It was a lovely touch and so unexpected.

You cannot leave the resort at present though this is looking to change soon but there was plenty still to do. There was entertainment every night, spa and gym facilities, beach parties, music at the pool and a good variety of water based excursions available for booking. We were more than happy to just soak up the Caribbean sun on the beach with a few yummy pina coladas!!

The food at the Grande was incredible and not once were we disappointed with any of the meals we received. Make sure to go to Soy for the most amazing spring rolls and the Jerk Shack for the best tasting jerk chicken i have ever had. We didn't once have to make a dinner reservation even with social distancing limiting table numbers; we always managed to get seated straight away.

We absolutely encourage anyone thinking of booking the resort to DO IT!! You wont regret it and we cannot wait to come back in the near future.

Emma & Scott Wiseman
